Which Sound Blaster to buy (or am I missing the poin

I had the *GREAT* idea to purchase a set of logitech 540 speakers for my husband's laptop after we heard them in a store and loved them.
Then realized that I needed to get him an external sound card to use them.
So..... I'm under the impression that I don't need a receiver to use these - that I can plug them into the sound card (at least that's what Logitech's website says!).
He uses his card slot for Bluetooth so I'd love a USB card but all of the USB externals seems to have been taken out of production.
What would anyone suggest? I'm at a total loss....
THANKS in advance!
Liliac_wine

hmm......in my neck of the woods i can go to my local walmarts and trip over the soundblaster li've usb. thir all over out here. ya but for a 5. speaker system u need will need to make sure the device fully supports 5.. the usb should. if the laptop isnt to old it might woerk without getting the usb. or u can go for the pricy audigy2 pcmcia card for lapto

  • My appstore app shows an update available for CodeBox, which I did not buy, does anyone know what the problem could be? I don't think I have been hacked (no money subtracted, etc.)

    Hi all,
For some time now, my appstore app shows an update available for CodeBox, which I did not buy. When I try to update it it asks for my ID and password (all normal), but then it gives an Unknown Error.
I am 100% sure I didn't buy the app, I do not see any transaction on my card or in the appstore apart of this one, so does not seem to be a hack.
Does anyone know what is happening, this is a tricky thing which is making me lose trust in the payment/account system that Apple is using.
    Thanks!
    Isidro

well... actually you are right dahveed, i had a dodgy copy of galaxy on fire 2 (boring game), that's what was giving me the issue. i followed your posts about the MAS etc., and discovered this was the problem. Corrected. You're a knowledgable man, thank you

  • Which iPhone should I buy if living in both the US and Europe (Spain)

    Hey everyone,
My parents live in the US for half the year and Spain for the other half of the year.  I'd like to buy them an iPhone but am not sure which one to get.  I don't think getting a contract in the US would be a good idea, so am thinking of buying one unlocked from an Apple store.
    - Which of the unlocked iPhone 5s will work in both locations
    - Will they be able to swap their Spanish SIM with a TMobile SIM (month to month) without a problem?
    - Any other advice or suggestions?

You can buy from either country as long as it is a SIM unlocked phone That way you will be able to swap SIMs. Ask at the Apple store. While one phone from either country will work in the other, there are some caveats:
1). You will only be able to get 3G data speeds and 4G/LTE will work either in one country or the other (but not both) with the same phone as the 4G/LTE frequencies vary between the two countries, and the phones in each of countries are made specifically for the 4G/LTE networks available in the country where the phones are sold.
2). The warranty is not international and will only be valid in the country where the phone was purchased. If you run into problems in the US and the phone was purchased in Spain you will have to bring the phone back for both in and out of warranty service to Spain (or any EU country as the EU is treated as one country for warranty purposes).

  • My Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital won't work with Vista

First off, I wasn't sure whether to put this in the vista or Sound Blaster form so sorry if this is the wrong place.
Anyways. I got a new computer two days ago and just installed my old Sound Blaster li've 5. Digital (model SB0220) card into the new desktop. Vista, the operating system I'm using now tried to find the drivers but failed. Then I tried looking them up on the creative site with the drop down lists but it didn't pull up anything either.
I plan on buying an m-audio 2496 sound card soon but for now I would like to get back to recording and the Sound Blaster card is much better than the stock motherboard audio setup.
If anyone knows of any drivers for this card it would be extremely helpful.
ThanksMessage Edited by 85Dave on 07-0-200707:22 AM

    hmm...thanks.
Well its not that bad really. sound blaster cards are not made for recording audio and so I was going to get the m-audio 2496 card anyways.
I'm just waiting for drivers on that which are supposed to come some time in the 2nd half of 2007.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Sound blaster Cards built for Vi

I have read the information about the Sound Blaster drivers and compatibiliy with Vista. Most of the cards listed on the website specification does not say it is supported by Vista but now there is a Vista Driver for it. What I read was that many of the cards now have Vista drivers that can be downloaded but not all functions may work under Vista that worked under Windows XP. I don't want to upgrade an existing Sound Blaster card that I have in my PC, I want to buy a new one. Which Sound blaster card is made for Vista with all functions of the card working out of the box with Vista. I could not find that on the support page. I want a card for Movies and Music. I don't want to buy a sound card that not all the functions will work because it is Vista.

I do understand that they all have supported Vista Drivers, but your website says that some functions may not work under Vista. All I am trying to do is to select a card that all functions work out of the box when I install it with Vista instead of finding out later that all functions do not work under Windows Vista. Here is the statement from your support page:
Creative is developing Vista driver updates for many of its soundcard products. Many are already available on the web for download and installation to support existing customers. However, after installing an updated Windows Vista driver, some features that work on Windows XP may no longer be available due to changes in the audio architecture for Vista. See below for details specific to your product.
So what I am asking is Pre-Sales Help to help me select a Sound Card where all functions of the card works under Vista which I will use only for Moves and Music, no games.

  • Can't install drivers for Sound Blaster Live! No ctzapxx.exe file

As above, I had to reboot my system and used a disk eraser as I wanted a clean slate. So obviously I have to reinstall the drivers for diff things such as sound card, USB 2.0 card etc. Everything goes fine until I get to installing the drivers for the Sound Blaster Li've!?I inserted the disc and installed the drivers, then I restarted Windows as requested. When it loads back up it'sdetects the sound card and trys to install the driver, but it can not find the driver anywhere, not on the PC or on the CD. After looking into things I thought I would go down the approach using the ctzapxx.exe file mentioned here - <a target="_blank"]http://93.95.7.84/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=4,E=000000000033636605,K=5285,Sxi=8,Answer2655 5=obj(26555)bj(26559[/url])?But for some reason this file isn't on the CD, which is what I think is stopping me from installing the drivers. My OS is Windows XP SP2. I have files that a similar in name to ctzapxx.exe , but they don't seem to do anything. I am usual ok with computer software but hardware and BIOS etc isn't my strong point as you may have gathered. I'm hoping someone knows how to sort this as it is a real pain not having any sound. Any help will be much appreciated! If you need anymore details to help identify the problem I'll provide them ASAP. Thanks in advance,Andy

the unipack download from creative will not work. first, try asking around if somebody else has the same 5. creative card as yours. the only solution for your problem is to use the installation cd that came with your creative card. I lost mine so i went to a pc repair shop and inquired if they have a copy of such cd - they normally do.
. you need to remove all the programs concerning creative from add remove programs. 2. shut down, and remove the sound card. 3. turn the pc on and let windows boot normally. install the the softwares and drivers using the cd that came with the box. 4. shut down and install the sound card 5. turn on the pc. windows will find a new hardware and will find the right drivers bec you have previously installed them. There is absolutely no need to reformat your hard dri've.

  • Recording audio from a digital source on sound blaster M

This is my setup: DVD player > optical cable > optical-in on Sound Blaster MP3+
I'm trying to record the STEREO (not 5. or DTS) audio off a DVD I have, but it won't record or playback anything on either the SPDIF input or Wave/MIDI/CD input when selected. Everything else works fine (analog, line-in, etc.). Another thing I noticed is that all of the inputs seem to be connected to my built-in regular laptop microphone. When I press record in any .wav recording program, I can hear my voice/other background noise.

The issue I see with iTalk and similar iPod apps is that the iPod has no line-level input, so you'd have to use one of the earbud/microphone combinations or an external microphone like this one which will be limited as to quality. There are some other options here. But if you want pro quality, and particularly want to tap straight off of a mixing console, a device like the Alesis is going to be necessary, though there may be something less expensive that I can't find.
If a microphone works for you, then iTalk might be fine. There's a freeware version of iTalk, iTalk Lite, you can try, to see if it will do the job. It doesn't have the advanced playback controls and has a limit of 2MB per recording, but it should allow you to test it out. Voxie is another possibility.
    Regards.

  • ?Using Sound Blaster to record ta

I have a Sound Blaster 24-bit external device ( Model: SB0490) that I am trying to configure,?I want to record tapes and?eventually transfer the audio files to my husband's IPod. I have used the device before to record tapes and LP's and that worked well. The system is the same and so are the different componets. I am using a simple tape player that only has an earjack plug for the out.
I can not get the device to recognize the sound from the tape player, the level guide stays flat and does not show any changes. I do make sure the box is checked to allow for the level to be seen visually.
When I did?the recording?before I know that I had to figure out the set-up as the paper documention?and support files did not cover the needed configuration. Yet I did figure it out at that point. I do not?remember now how I connected everything then. The speakers are working in my normal set-up, I have a simple set-up of 2 speakers. I have hooked them to the "front" plug and tried putting the tape player in both the "mic-in" and "line in" outlets and neither plug registers a sound in the level gauge. I believe that when I did it before that I had to use a splitter, this may be due to needing to listen on a head-set so that I did not disturb others while I was recording. I have tried so many configurations and still can not seem to enable Sound Blaster correctly. Even when I can hear the tape player the system still does not register on the gauge. I have tried adjusting both the sound level manually on both the tape player and Sound Blaster with no difference. I should add that I am trying to tape a booktape which uses a dual outlet plug adapter as each side of the tape has two tracks. After the taping of one track I change to the other outlet and record the other track. I don't know that this would make a difference but it may. I am a novice when it comes to this so I'm probably over-looking something simple in the set-up. And although I figured it out before I am at a loss now. If anyone has?a solution?I would appreciate a reply. Thanks much!?

jutapa - Thanks for the question on the ITunes. The tape player I am using is not a good tape player, i.e. it doesn't have any way to adjust things like the sound quality, etc. Just a plug for the earphones, whether I want to play a CD, tape or radio.
I am using book tapes on the tape player as my item to record and I don't have another tape player available. Wondering if something in Windows programs was overriding the sound Blaster device I tried to forego?the Sound Blaster and plug?the player?straight into the computer and the computer does not recognize it all. Likely because it's not a digital device. I did use?the radio setting last night?to see?if there was any difference, the same lack of sound happened. When I recorded before I didn't have too much problem figuring this all out - listening on earphones while I was taping - was the biggest thing. I?believe I used a splitter for that. I use Itunes for CD's all the time with no problems. In?the current?situation I get sound in my ear-micphones. ?Maybe the problem is in the ear-mic phones - perhaps I used a different earphones before? I think I have used up options with the cords, all kinds of Rube Goldberg configurations starting out with what seemed to be logical ..... my thinking was that sooner or later something?is bound to work. I checked all the levels and the volume is set?at full for mic, line-in, etc. I'm going to hit Radio Shack later today and see what they have in cords - maybe my cords are damaged in some fashion. Again thanks for your comment. If I figure out the problem I will post the solution in case anyone else runs into the problem. Thanks again.

    Hey xnathanmeyerx,
Please select Line-In of Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1 as the default Input for the Mac computer. It can be configured at Sound under the Mac System Preferences. I hope this helps.

  • Sound Blaster Z Control Panel - does it need to be in startup?

    Hey gang,
I built a new system this past week and put a new Sound Blaster Z card in it - which I am very thrilled with. I ran this new system for about 3 days with the onboard Real Tech sound, which at the time I thought was pretty good - till I put this new card in. Really liking it so far.
My question has to do with the Sound Blaster Control Panel, showing as a startup item. I have the option " start sound blaster Z control panel at startup " unchecked.
However in task manager startup tab, it shows Sound Blaster Control Panel as a startup item. It does show the sound blaster control panel listed as running in the processes tab of task manager using app 45mb of ram.
Does this process need to be running or can I disable it? Maybe it needs to be running to process sound with the settings I have chosen in the control panel?
Just curious, thanks for any tips on this.
    - Don

And of course now that I have asked the question, the last couple of times I have booted and checked, that is not the case - the Sound Blaster Control Panel is not showing as a running process...
The only items I see as running processes for this card in task manager now are:
    Creative Audio Service
    SoundBlaster Audio Service
Strange, but I can live with that .

  • Connecting Sound Blaster Connect to an old hi-fi to record ta

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to connect the sound blaster connect to an old hi-fi. there seems to be only cable included that will go to the back (video?) feed of my hi-fi (the double ended white/red cable) and when i plug that in to the hi-fi and sound blaster it doesn't record anything so i assume it's not right. is there a cable i can get which i can just plug into the headphone plug on my hi-fi and then into the sound blaster? i don't understand all the technical phrases used on other messages or the website so sorry if someone has asked this question before.
Can anyone help me? i really want to record all my old tapes onto computer.
    thanks

I always used a stereo guitar/keyboard cable and used an adaptor to make it smaller on the computer end (my headphone socket on my hi-fi is big). But yeh, I always just used the headphone socket on the hi-fi and the line-in input on the soundcard. This has worked for every sound card I've ever had...
You could just use something like...

  • Sound Blaster PCI Express - No option for AUDIO CREATION mode.

I need help. ?I purchased another computer from Dell, with a Sound Blaster board just as I have done with three other computers. ?This makes four.
I ordered it with the Sound Blaster board because of the THREE MODES, Entertainment Mode, Gaming Mode, and Audio Creation Mode. ?The Audio Creation mode is really what I want because it allows to add reverb.
So when I get this latest Dell with the Sound Blaster card it is a
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express
The Volume control does not show the three modes. GAMING, ENTERTAINMENT, and AUDIO Creation. ?It only shows the ENTERTAINMENT mode.
So I thought perhaps those were enhancements that had to be installed from the Creative Sound Blaster CD that Dell provides. ?I put the CD in the dri've, and it goes into install mode and then when you start the install it says do you want to add additional software to which I answer YES.
Then it says install your CD in the CD dri've, which of course it is already in there. ?The CD looks funky. ?No scratches, it is new, but it has an uncharacteristic distortion on the data side so it is probably bad.
I download the drivers off the Creative site and it says, you have a newer version already installed on your computer.
I have called Dell 5 times over the course of 2.5 hours being disconnected all 5 times after speaking to people with extremely thick accents that know as much about computers as I know about brain surgery.
    BOTTOM LINE
1.Does the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express have the ability to support the three modes: ?Entertainment, Gaming, and AUDIO CREATION.
If so, how do I get it to workHow do I get a new CD
    2. If this card does not support the three modes, what card doesThe Sound Blaster cards in my other three Dells all support these three modes.
    Thanks!
    Doc from Las Vegas

No the Xtreme Audio doesn't not support the three modes, it only has Entertainment mode. Any X-Fi card that is not a Xtreme Audio does support the three modes.

  • Sound Blaster OMNI Surround 5.1 - input issue

    Hi there all,
Purchased one of the above units today after sales person confirmed I could input three channels. I have three radios and wanted to take there mono output and put 2 into 1 for Line-In (Stereo) and 1 into Mic-in (Mono).
Have tried everything and can't have both Mic-In and Line-In active at the same time in Win7, reviewing manual and sales images its show you can attached to line-in and to Mic-in but does not say anywhere you can only use one at a time.
Can someone please confirm if its possible to use both Line-in and Mic-in at the same time or not.
    Many thanks
