Which Tablet?

I have just purchased a Mac Pro Desktop computer and have added CS4, and Lightroom for use in working with photos.
It has been suggested that I consider getting a Tablet for editing, as it would facilitate some of the types of editing that I plan on doing.
I have never used a Tablet, and I don't assume that the learning curve is daunting, but I would like to make a wise choice for my needs.
With this in mind, I do have a few questions.
1.  Without breaking the bank, are there tablets out there that are reliable for serious amateurs?
2.  Does size matter?  I have seen that the size does vary, and I am concerned that perhaps the size of the pad limits the area that I can edit.  I would prefer to go with the 5X8 versions, but would this be enough?
3.  Are there sources out there that are recommended, and conversely, not recommended?
Needless to say, any suggestions and/or direction is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi there,
I was in a similar position over a year ago...did a fair amount of research, but finally I went for a Wacom Intuos3 A4 Tablet Pen + Mouse USB Mac/Win £272+VAT. I'm assuming they are cheaper now than when I bought.  I would personally say that size DOES matter on a tablet, you don't want to be hitting the edge of the tablet every time you've drawn a line, its highly irritating having to keep picking your pen up. So I spent a bit more to get a great quality larger tablet which has lots of room to draw on, and  havent looked back ;-)
Hope that helps,
Gabrielle

  • Which tablet/s can run executables created in LabVIEW 8.5?

Background: I have created a VI that acquires data over bluetooth from a specific DAQ device. The VI is created in Windows 7 and LV 8.5. The VI is tested to work on the development machine. I'd like end users to be able to install and run an executable version of this VI from a tablet that has bluetooth capability.
Question:  Which tablets can run executables created in LabVIEW 8.5? I think tablets running Windows 8.1, such as Surface Pro and Dell Venue Pro, should be okay but need a confirmation before I purchase one. Also, how about tablets that run other operating systems, such as Windows RT or Android?
Extended Question: What tablets in the market can run LabVIEW 8.5 VIs (or in other words allow LabVIEW 8.5 to be installed)?

Well since LabVIEW 8.5 isn't officially supported on Windows 7, or 8 you may have issues.

Of course many on the forums have stated being able to run older versions of LabVIEW on new operating systems without issue but know that from NI's perspective you should not be running LabVIEW 8.5 on Windows 7.  Which means no modern tablet.

  • Which tablet is better the Kindle or Samsung ?

My family would like to replace our Nook tablets with either a Kindle Fire HDX or a Samsung Galaxy Tab.  I have my own and my 2 kids each have their own.  I like to know which one is better the KIndle or the Samsung?

Well this is an easy one, the Samsung is by far more broader in what you can do and is a favorite among many people for different reasons. The tablet is great is for small business/personal use. I would encourage you to lean more towards it for several reasons.
If I may though, I would wait until the end of the year before I consider a new one as September is generally when Samsung releases new products.

  • Your ideas on which TABLET I should get... PROS & CONS Please!

I am 27 and looking for a tablet to get for myself.  I would like any and all opinions along with a pro and con list of your decisions.
    Requirements for my tablet:

*wifi AND 3/4g capable (if that is not possible I would like the 3/4g)
*usb ports to attach speakers or memory cards
    *gps navigation capable
    *bluetooth capable
Things I would like, but do not have to have:
    *great speakers
*a keyboard attachment to the case
Thanks for your help and your critiques!

Did you happen to get any other info?  This is very similar to my question that I'm currently looking for help with.  Our computer is dying and looking for the best option in a tablet that maybe can replace my computer.  I'm looking for decent memory, hopefully my itunes and apps from my phone.  A word program and printing and a USB port (for my kids leapfrog updates).

  • Which Tablet plays both Flash and Quicktime

Hello need some advise from you~
I am looking at a Tablet that supports both Flash and Quicktime.
So far I only know that Honeycomb 3.0 supports flash. But you can download this "Rock Player" application to run Quicktime.
On the other hand, I Pad supports quicktime and not flash.
What about the blackberry playbook. I am curiouse about its OS?
Over all I am lookign for a tablet that will play both flash and quicktime straight on the web. ex: apple movie trailer / youtube
Any suggestions? thank you very much.

I had the same symptoms and realized today that the answer was to make sure that 'Enable plug-ins' was checked under:
    Safari
    Preferences
    Security
I don't know why it was unchecked all of a sudden, but maybe this will work for you?

  • Which tablets allow you to hyperlink to other pdf files using adobe reader?

On my windows pc, i can click the hyperlink on a file that then opens another pdf file.
the adobe reader on the windows tablet doesn't allow this function, nor does the chromebook.
the new ipad is a bit too expensive and the old ipad (1) can't use ios7, so that doesn't work either.
any recommendations for netbooks or tablets would be appreciated.
    thanks!!

    Hi  jeanniemtbean,
Thank You for posting on the forums. Adobe Reader does not provide you with this facility. This is a feature of Acrobat.

  • Tablets... Which one?

    Hey,
I am looking at tablets, but I need some questions answered...
    1. What is the BlackBerry - PlayBook Tablet with 16GB Memory more used for?
    2. How is it different from the Lenovo - IdeaPad A1107 Tablet with 16GB Memory - Black?
I am looking for a tablet that I can get on wifi with, listen to music, download apps, and
put some of my school work on it. Which tablet would be better for what I want/need?

    My thoughts...
both entry tablets are very similar, but go to the store to check it out yourself
both tablets have Apps, the question is what apps do you want to run
Check out the Lenovo reviews.... Hmm... while Android has apps... don't expect them all to work.
Playbook prices are going to be about $20 cheaper in the coming days with the 4G model announcement
    I love my Playbook...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJtYPC2b468
both does wifi.  Playbook also offers Bluetooth which is great with the Bridge application how it extends your Blackberry 7 smartphone's abilities.  You can even use the smartphone touchpad & keyboard for the tablet.
I love the Playbook's twin forward facing speakers.  While the screen is not 3D, the stereo sound comes out like 3D when watching movies.
with regards to school work.... let's stop and think about this.
is notetaking done by typing on the screen, consider an external keyboard
7" is great portability, but do you want a larger screen?
is 16gb going to be big enough to keep all your work?

  • Is there a way to force tablet mode?

Firefox defaults to the interface instead the tablet interface on my 9" tablet. (Not to be confused with the desktop vs. phone agent for web pages.). Is there a way to force the tablet interface without messing with custom display resolutions?

    hi raincity:
There is no way to force the tablet user experience. Firefox for Android should detect that you are on a 7" or bigger tablet and automatically give you the tablet experience.
Which tablet do you have (manufacturer and model number please) and what android operating system are you using (Kitkat 4.4, Android 4.3 Jelly bean, 4.2 jelly bean, 4.1 jellybean, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, etc).
It might be a Firefox issue ; it could be that Firefox for some reason thinks your device is a phone rather than a tablet.
    Cheers!

  • Can I highlight and post-it-note a pdf on a tablet and then open it later on my laptop (and vice-versa)?

Thank you for your time and clear answers.
Obviously I would save it and then transfer it to my laptop.
One more thing: I am interested in purchasing a tablet primarily for reading PDFs (often scanned books and articles).  But I must be able to highlight/notate (not edit) these pdfs and then re-open them to do the same on my laptop.  If you have any recommendations for less expensive Tabs for this job, I would be interested (as well as your recommended screen size).  But my first question is really the important one (I won't buy a tablet if it is not possible/easy).
    Thank you for your expertise!

    Hey,
For you first question I would say that yes you can highlight a PDF on a tablet and then open it on laptop.
Secondly, if you ask which tablet is less expensive, then I must tell you that there is no connection of the tablet purchase on the basis of your needs.
This is because Adobe Reader can be installed as a free app on a tablet for serving your purposes of reading, annotating PDF documents easily and at free of cost.
Hope this information is relevant for you.
Let me know if you have further queries.

  • Wacom Tablets

    Hi
Is anyone out there willing to advise on which Wacom tablet (or other brand)to use in conjunction with pse3
    Thanks
    Neil

    Click Cardo,
You asked about tablet size. That depends on two factors:
    1) What you going to use it for. If you are mainly going to be using the
tablet to trace something or to digitize for a CAD program, the tablet needs
to be large enough to accomodate your source material. You aren't going to
be happy tracing an 8x10 drawing on a 4x5 tablet. If you are an artist and
will be doing a lot of sketching and drawing, the finer sensitivity and
angle sensing of the Intous can be an advantage.
    2) What are your personal preferences. Do you make large sweeping motions
when you draw or do you prefer smaller motions. Remember, the tablet is
mapped to the screen. If you have a 12x19 tablet, you will be moving your
hand 19 inches to move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other.
That gets old in a hurry. I prefer small precise movements from the wrist
and fingers and find that the 4x5 tablet works well for me. I can easily
reach any part of the screen with minimal effort and still have fine
control. If you tend to make larger motions or don't have as much facility
with fine motor skills, you may be happier with a larger tablet.
I bought my Graphire 4x5 years ago when I had a standard monitor. Now I
have a widescreen monitor. I find I can still use the 4x5 quite effectively
with the widescreen monitor. The default mapping matches the tablet
working area to the screen area. Because the two have different aspect
ratios, this does introduce some distortion but this has not been an issue.
If I were to trace a circle on the tablet, it would show up as a mild
ellipse on the screen, however, I don't trace anything and I find, that
looking at the screen, my hand-eye coordination compensates automatically --
circles come out circles. I don't even have to think about it.
The tablet driver lets you control the mapping. You can easily map the
tablet working area to one (or even a portion of one) of your two monitors.
If you do that, you will need to use your conventional mouse to access the
areas not mapped. If your mapped areas on the screen and the tablet have
the same proportions, there is no distortion and you can trace quite well.
That will probably mean that some of the tablet area will not be usable so,
in effect, you will be having a slightly smaller working area. Something to
think about when choosing your size.
Your dual monitors effectively form a very widescreen monitor. If you are
using the full area of both, the widescreen tablets may very well be
advantageous. When choosing a tablet, consider the area of the screen you
want to be accessible by the tablet. Then, select the tablet that has an
aspect ratio closest to that. That way you have the least distortion (and,
the least amount of lost tablet area if you adjust the driver to match the
    screen proportions on the tablet).
I have the Graphire and it's worked well for me. But, when it comes time to
replace it, I'll probably get the Intuos. The Intuos has double the number
of sensitivity levels which means that you have finer control of the
pressure effects. The range of pressure (from softest to hardest) you have
to press the pen is the same, it just makes it easier to control. It also
can sense the pen angle which the Graphire cannot do.
You are going to have to decide for yourself which tablet will be best for
you. Personal preferences and intended use are going to factor big in your
decision. If you can, go to a store where you can try out a Graphire and
Intuos. If you can't find anyone that will do that, find a store with a
    good return policy.

  • What's a good intuos5 tablet for the beginner?

    Hi...
I've been looking at some of the intuos5 tablets out there...  I'd like to get a small tablet preferably wireless which would allow me to sketch and create my own designs. logos, and even some gothic type imagery from sketches.
I'm by no means a pro at sketching but I do have some skill and would like to give it a try...  But I don't know which tablet is right for my needs.  I'd like it to be compatible with the variety of Adobe Software Products I own...  What (small) tablet does Intuos make that would suit might needs and not break my budget?
    Thanks In Advance!

Good is relative.  Google for reviews and pick one.  Navigon and TomTom are popular.  Mapquest is pretty good and free.
Personally, I much prefer a standalone nav device, i.e. a Garmin Nuvi.

  • Can I run InDesign on a tablet?

I love my laptop but it is just too bulky to carry to client meetings. Has InDesign been developed to run on tablets yet and if so, which tablet would be best to work on?

  • Tablet: Good or Bad?

Hello, well I was thinking about maybe investing in a Tablet. At first I was wanting maybe just an e-Reader to read books, but why not pay a bit more and be able to download apps and access the internet much better, right? Well I have some questions regarding tablets.
    1) Do all tablets or most require a data plan to use them?
    2) How do you download apps if you don't have the iPad?
    3) How much are data plans on average if you need one?
    4) Which Tablet is reccommended to me  or just in general?
I really will only use the Tablet to read books online, use social networking, surf the internet, play games and maybe take random notes or whatnot. If somone would graciously get back to me, I would appreciate it! Thank you.

A lot of tablets are wi-fi only, so they work wherever you have wi-fi.  Some people "tether" them to their phones via wi-fi for "on the go" data.  Only 3G/4G enabled tablets (Like the Verizon LTE variant of the Samsung Tab 10.1) require a data plan.
If you have an Android tablet like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Android Market is the Android equivalent of the Apple App Store.  Also, unlike Apple devices, Android devices let you "sideload" apps from your PC and also access alternate markets (like the Amazon App Store for Android.)
Data plans are usually around $30 for a 2GB/month data plan if you want data "on the go" anywhere that has cell service.  (Note:  The Verizon LTE Tab 10.1 may only be able to use WiFi and LTE, not Verizon's old 2G/3G network).
As to which is recommended for you...  This is a subject of flamewars.  I have a WiFi Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and love it.  It's the thinnest of the Android tablets, however it's one of the more expensive ones ($500 for 16GB).  The Asus Transformer is $100 cheaper but it's a bit thicker and accessories for the Transformer are VERY expensive and frequently sold out.  However, The Transformer's accessory keyboard makes it quite popular - the integration of the Transformer's addon keyboard is superior to any other tablet solution.  The Tab 10.1 can use many accessories intended for the original 7" Galaxy Tabs, so accessories (both Samsung official and third-party) are much easier to find.  The Acer Iconia A500 has far more ports built-in so it's thicker but requires adapters for fewer functions.  The Toshiba Thrive takes the Iconia concept further - it has nearly EVERYTHING built-in, but this makes it the thickest of the Android tablets.
