Which template style do you suggest for what I want to format?

I'm working on iWeb '06 1.1.1.
I am now beginning to do the pages that have some paragraphs written by the person and several photographs which do not really need to be captioned.
QUESTION: WHAT TEMPLATE DO YOU RECOMMEND THAT I USE FOR THIS KIND OF PAGE? (Welcome, About Me, Photos, or Blank.) I want to be able to drop photos of the person at various spots in the text field.
I want their text to wrap around their photos. I do not want a photo sitting on a line with no text next to it.
I would like to be able to "tilt" some of the photos, too.
Can you send some suggestions and advice? Part of this entails knowing the properties and limitations of each template in any given group, and I am far from knowledgeable. I am using the MODERN style and want to maintain it throughout the website.
Thank you.

That's personal preferences, but here is food for
thoughts: once you choose your template (or theme:
Black, White or what not), there is no easy way to
switch to other theme.
That is, if you choose White template and later
decide to switch to Notebook; there not much you can
do, except rebuild the whole thing.
Not bragging, but I'm the ONLY one can do this
quickly (or at less quicker than other people, I can
open multiple iWeb Domains at the same time).

Consider the template (theme) that you will stick
with, because it's NOT easy to switch template
(theme).
Dear Cyclosaurus — Please do note above where I said, "I am using the MODERN style and want to maintain it throughout the website."
My question was about the various templates within the MODERN style. But it's beginning to look as though what I thought iWeb pages could do, iWeb cannot do. 8-(

The various Lynda.com video tutorials are very good, but you have to pay for a description.  The Photoshop User TV podcasts are excellent; there are hundreds of them, and they are free.  They are also what the iPad was invented for.
The 'You suck at Photoshop' videos on YouTube are both very funny and very instructive.
The Scott Kelby books are very good for folk starting out.  The Martin Evening, and the Martin Evening/Jeff Schewe books are as good as they get from a photography point of view.  The Steve Caplin books are the best Photoshop books once you get into it, but Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski do some great medium to advanced books.  Matt's Compositing Secrets is excellent, and was Amazon's best Photoshop book for a while.

  • What kind of antivirus do you suggest for mac OS X Maverics?

What kind of antivirus do you suggest for OS X Maverics?

OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • How are the Apps Store and iTunes store different? Which do you use for what?

Can you explain the difference between Apps Store and iTunes store? Is Apps a subset of iTunes store? To which store do you go for what?

Apps you buy from the Mac App store can be used on your computer.  You use the same Apple ID as the iTunes Store, but that's the only connection.
Apps you buy from the iTunes App Store are written to run on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch).  They won't run on your computer, only on your iDevice.

  • I am unable to turn my ipod on.  Suggestions for what might be wrong?

I have my iPod plugged in to charge.  But it won't power on.  Suggestions for what might be wrong?

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

which email service do you recommend for macbook pro?  we have an HP desktop with Windows Mail that is sync'd  to laptop Mail currently.

  • Which version of iPhoto you need for streaming?

I have an iPhone 4, with iOS 5, streaming active. But there is no streaming of pictures towards my Mac. I read the explanations, the help pages in iCloud and Apple doesn't mention at all which version of iPhoto you need for this feature. It's sure that in the Sources I don't have "Streaming", as I can see in their image. I have iPhoto 8.1.2 and OS 10 6.8.

Hi, thanks for the answer, but iCloud works on my Mac with Snow Leopard.
From Safari I can access through icloud.com to Calendar, Contacts, Mail, iWork and Find my iPhone. Actually I don't have iWork for the iPhone, so I can't really use it, and I didn't activate Mail (in my iPhone), because all my accounts are IMAP and messages are saved forever.
Well, the only other thing that interested me was Streaming (so is it called in Italian, but you are right, in the English version of the help pages it is called Photo Stream).
I'm aware that the version of iPhoto that I need for that feature must be more recent than mine, but I still hope that there is a version of iPhoto which supports Photo Stream and requires only Snow Leopard. I think that after iLife 9 (my version) there is directly iLife 11 (the present version), and I know it requires only 10.6.3 and not Lion. If Photo Stream is supported by iLife 11 and iLife 11 requires 10.6.3.... But perhaps there is an exception for some features, like Photo Stream. I would like to know...
I don't want to update to Lion, it is a slow system.
    Thanks again

what are universal buttons? and when you say they are the
same on each layer, do you mean they look the same (which is
irrelevant)? or do you mean something else?
and each button loads a different video means you want an flv
file to play when a button is pressed? if so, do you want to use
the video class or flvplayback class to display your flv?

  • Is JaxB the correct tool for what I want

(New to JaxB/XML, but good with Java)
I'm using an XML document to hold information about classes. Currently I'm using JaxB and it seems to work ok, but I just had one consern. It would be nice (both faster and less mem) if I could read the XML information into the classes I was using in my program directly. Right now with JaxB, I am reading them into some generated classes and retrieving that information from those classes and putting it into my main classes. What I would like to do is while information for classes is being read in, don't create more memory for them to be stored into, instead store it directly into the main classes. I'm thinking this would be faster. Any ideas? Should I stick with JaxB or is something else better suited for what I want. As an example, my program reads in a List[] Float, but what I really need is a float[] (Yes I know how to convert, but it'ld be nice to start with the float[]) As another example, I read in 3 floats right now as Float[] but what I really need is a class called Vector3f() I'm using, derived from those 3 floats. It would be nice to give me that Vector3f directly instead of making a Float[] and me having to make a Vector3f

That's List Float up there, not List[] Float :)

  • What values do you suggest for SCAN_Start in Delphi to make a 6052 card sample 6 channels at 50000 s/s/ch

    I need to sample 6 channels @ 50000 s/s/ch on a PCI-6052E card. I use Delphi function SCAN_Start with params 4, 5, 6 & 7 set to -1, 50, 1 and 20 respectively. Params 6 & 7 are derived using the DAQ_Rate function. But I get a -10092 error. This suggest param 7 is incorrect. Can you suggest values to get the card going?

    Hi Mike,
I have a couple of links which offer a bit of advice on this. I'm not sure of the exact values that you should use but I would suggest you start aiming low (probably get one channel working at first and then you can work your way up from there).
    Please look at these links:

  • Need suggestions for what order to install software on new computer

I have had an iMac (with Panther) for 3 1/2 years but have never made any major changes to it and plan to leave it as it is. We got a second computer yesterday, one of the last of the white iMacs, via an Apple reseller. It came with Tiger 10.4.6 installed with a Leopard 10.5 drop-in disc and an iLife 08 disk. I set up the new Mac so I have a web connection, but have not yet transferred any data from my back-up external hard-drive, nor have I attempted to install Leopard or iLife 08. I'm looking for recommendations for what order I should do these tasks. Or does it matter?
That is, should I play around with Tiger for awhile (I've never used Tiger before), move all my data and confirm all is OK before adding Leopard?
Or should I get Leopard on the computer right as the next step?
Should iLife 08 be installed before or after Leopard? or is either order OK?
Any suggestions that would be helpful to me?

I concur with the others on going straight to Leopard. Then resolve any issues before installing non-Apple applications (or older Apple ones, for that matter).
However, make sure ANY applications are Leopard-compatible before you install them.
And note that the iLife '08 installer is for a 30-day trial installation (fully functional for those 30 days) after which it needs to be purchased.

  • Suggestion for what small printer for clamshell ibooks

    Hi all
I need suggestions for small printers that can work with clamshells OS 10.3 and OS 9.2.

You've just learned a hard lesson. Put your current energy into your education, not finding a way to wallow in ignorance.
There already is a hardware device that will do what you want. It's called a "manual". In particular, the sections that relate to "where the program stores media". Pay very close attention to those sections and set up your computer so that all the scratch and storage pointers are aimed where you want. It's very simple to have them all go to one drive.
Then, when it's time to archive the project because you are starting a new project, just purchase another hard drive for the new project. They are absurdly inexpensive these days.
Remove the drive with your project to be archived from your computer (since you now know how to keep all the files organized, they will be all together) - and plug in a new disk for the next project.
If you want a backup, use carbon copy cloner to simply duplicate the drive (or simply just copy the relevant folders- you'll know which ones) to another drive (or get a RAID 1 device)
    good luck,
    x

  • Which SATA drivers do you use for nForce3 chipset?

Windows Generic or the ones that come with the nForce3 drivers?
When using the nForce drivers, my hard drive operates louder and the light appears to be flickering a lot more (indicating more hdd access) when compared to the Windows XP drivers.
Which do you use? What should I be using? I remember reading some threads that said nForce SATA drivers suck... but that was months ago.
    Thanks for any info
(Please note that I am NOT, I repeat, NOT talking about RAID, just standard serial ATA)

lol, guess no one uses hard drive drivers

  • What do you suggest for phone service provider?

I think many of the SW users (including myself) will be jealous of your Google Fiber! :)An easy transition would be to look at a BYOB hosted voice provider. The good news is that there are hundreds to choose from, the bad news is that there are hundreds to choose from!
You don't mention how many phones you have, but the beauty of hosted voice is that you can start with 1 line and scale as you need. Many plans include new, free phones as well as unlimited usage, all for a monthly fee. Most hosted providers share similar feature sets (IM/Chat/Presence, Reporting, VM to Email, IVR etc), but making a suggestion will require a little more digging on your current environment and planned growth, as well as your (and management) expectations/requirements.Happy to help, PM me with the details and I can help guide you and bring you multiple good...

We are in Kansas City and Google Fiber is so prominent and we are switching from Time Warner where phone service is free with the internet and services;  Google Fiber does not have phone service and I am not ready for my business line to be on a mobile phone!  There was the Magic Jack that came out that runs off internet through the computer or router;  What is out there now?  What does anyone suggest?
