  • Oracle Enterprise Linux on  Dell

    Hi
I need to know on which Dell Servers Oracle Enterprise Linux will not install.
Can you please let me know if there are any issues installing Oracle Enterprise Linux on
    Dell(TM) PowerEdge(TM) R710 Rack Mount Server on
    -Intel(R) Quad Core E5504 Xeon(R) CPU 2.0GHz
Strangely i am being told that we can install Redhat 5.2 on it but not Oracle Enterprise Linux
    Kindly advise
    Thanks a lot
    Cyril

We have a rack of Dell R710s (6 servers for a 5 node RAC and 1 for OEM). All of them have OEL 5.4 installed on them. We have had no problems running OEL on these systems until we try to initialize IPMI on them following some instructions our DBA got from Oracle. Looking at other non-Oracle documentation for IPMI, we find the same initialization commands so there is nothing specific to Oracle that is failing here.
Except for our problem with IPMI, these boxes work great with OEL.

  • What is the supported version of Oracle Enterprise Quality Data for WebLogic 12c

    Hi All,
The recent release of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality is 11.1.1.6.1 for which supported weblogic server is WebLogic 10.3.6
Can anyone tell me that if WebLogic 12c also is a supported version for Oracle Enterprise Data Quality 11.1.1.6.1 and if no, then which version of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality is supported on WebLogic 12c (12.1.2)
    Its really urgent.Please guide!
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Thanks But I already followed this link and I forgot to mention that I am looking for the supported version of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality for Product Data for Oracle WebLogic 12.1.2. In the certification matrix of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality for Product Data 11g it is listed that the supported weblogic version is 10.3.6. So I wanted to know which version of Oracle Enterprise Data Quality for Product Data would support weblogic 12.1.2 or if Oracle Enterprise Data Quality for Product Data 11g is supported on weblogic 12.1.2 also.
I checked the certfication matrix for Oracle Enterprise Data Quality for Product Data 11g from Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported System Configurations link only.
    Please suggest!

  • Oracle standard edition vs. enterprise edition

    Hi all
Due to cost constraints, we have had to downgrade our 8i Database Enterprise Edition installation to Standard Edition.
My question is: do we have to re-create our database under Standard Edition, to make it a 'Standard Edition' database, or can we just re-open our existing database (created under Enterprise Edition) with the Standard Edition?
I installed 8i SE and opened our database but, of course, SELECT BANNER FROM V$VERSION suggests we're still running the EE.
Are we breaking the terms of our licence by using this existing database?
    Very many thanks
    Andrew

    Hi!
My impression is during the database creation time, Oracle incorporates in data dictionary the options available for each product edition in that time.
Try to execute a specific operation that needs an E.E. license just like parallel query, advanced replication, and Partitioning.
    Execute this query:
    select * from v$option;
And compare to the Database Feature and Option Availability ( notes available on metalink ):
Differences Between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition in 8i
    Note:112591.1
Differences between Oracle 8.1.x Personal, Standard and Enterprise on NT/2000
    Note:70059.1
As long as this is only my impression, try opening a SR to make it sure.

  • Can a C++ client use Oracle Standard or Oracle Enterprise version?

Can a C++ client use Oracle Standard or Oracle Enterprise version of Coherence or is the Grid edition required? Please keep in mind that I am only interested in doing what is legal from a licensing standpoint, even if some other options are technically possible.
    Regards,
    isailhobie

Yes, a C++ (or .NET) client can access a Coherence Grid regardless of what edition is licensed. In our parlance, this is called a "Data Client". A Data Client provides you access to data and services on the grid, for example with put/get/query, etc. A "Real Time Client" requires a Grid Edition license. Real Time Clients allow real-time synchronization with the grid; this enables continuous query caches, near cache, etc.
For a complete description of Coherence features by edition, including discussion of the three types of clients, please see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/appfeatures.htm#BABIGHCF

  • Upgrading from Oracle 9i Standard edition to Enterprise.

I want to upgrade my database from oracle 9i(9.2.0.6) Standard edition to Enterprise edition.
Please suggest me as to what is the best suitable method
I was thinking of installing EE directly on Standard edition so that all the things remain intact is it possible?
Also if not then can backup and restore be used?
    Thanks in advance

    hi.
right now i have standard edition already installed as i said earlier. I want to upgrade from SE to EE because of using advance features like partitioning. DB size is 40 GB.
I know exp/imp would take a lot of time that's why I thought it is not a viable path.

  • How to determine which packs are installed on the Oracle Enterprise Edition

IS there any way to determine which option packs have been installed on 10g oracle enterprise edition . i don't seem to have grid control installed ?
Is there some easier way to determine this ?
    regards
    Ajay

No orainventory directory found However, it's the best way to know what are the installed product against your ORACLE_HOME.
You can run the OUI and look for the installed components if any.
    Nicolas.
PS : you need to log on your server.

  • Which ntp servers should i use for oracle enterprise installations

i see that the default oracle enterprise ntp servers installed are the red hat rhel ntp servers
    [enterprise install ntp|http://www.flickr.com/photos/osde-info/5393087522/]
    0.rhel.pool.ntp.org
    1.rhel.pool.ntp.org
    2.rhel.pool.ntp.org
but should i change these to ntp servers from a local pool ?
    [ntp pool|http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/use.html]

These servers do not really exist. They are DNS trickery. So, it does not really matter what their names are. Everything to the left of pool.ntp.org is largely just for uniqueness at the client (your) end. There will be no issues if you continue to use them.
Visit http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/WebHome to find a list of public sites willing for you to use them as time servers in case you want to change servers.

  • On which port xwindows run in Oracle enterprise Linux

    Hi,
What is the port number for xwindows on Oracle enterprise Linux (OEL)5.3.
We need port# to connect to OEL Server through xwindows software tightvnc.
    Regards
    Sridhar Nalla

A sidenote: it's x window or x, windows is a software product from a certain company in redmond, WA.
Also: on unix/linux it's 5801 (access via http/browser using an applet) and 5901 (access via client/native vnc protocol). Only on windows 5800/5900 (vnc port 0) is used.

  • Which version of Oracle database is best for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Any input as to which version of Oracle database is best for Windows Home premium? Is there a major difference between the express edition and 10g itself as far as the interface/learning purposes goes?

    EssbaseApprentice wrote:
Any input as to which version of Oracle database is best for Windows Home premium? That's easy to answer, none . No oracle database version was released for Home(Premimum) series. There are several blog posts/articles which do mention that they have installed oracle releases over Home(Premium) platforms but whether it would work or not, it would be just a lottery and help regarding troubleshooting would not be there.
Is there a major difference between the express edition and 10g itself as far as the interface/learning purposes goes? You mean 10g Express Edition and 10g Enterprise, Standard Editions? If yes, then there is indeed difference. The Express edition is more like a developer's playground with a good looking GUI even there to administer it. EE or SE are the production releases , meant for being used in a very busy, highly concurrent environments. There would be additional features like RAC and Dataguard that would come with EE and wont be there in the XE. So if you are learning to become a production DBA, you should right away use EE or SE IMO .

  • Oracle Enterprise Edition Licensing - Core metrics

    Oracle: 10G (10.2.0.4) 64-bit, Enterprise Edition
Running on Xeon Intel chips, of which I believe have a core factor multiple of 0.5
We have 540 NUP licenses on our site. We obviously have a Live box, and a few test boxes.
One of our test boxes has 4 cores (Intel Xeon chip). Using the minimum usage licensing for Enterprise Edition, after the core factor of 0.5 is applied we would count 2 cores, I believe we would need 25 NUP licenses per core, which would = 50 NUP minimum for this test box.
    Is this correct??
My concern is that there may be a minimum of 4 cores (after factor) for Enterprise Edition. I cannot find anything that confirms this. I can only find maximums for Standard Edition, nothing for Enterprise Edition.
If there is a minimum of 4 cores, then I need to pull out one of these test boxes.
Anyone knows the facts on this?
    Many thanks.

Again like everybody said above, you should contact Oracle Sales Rep.
But Still let me answer your question, There is noting like minimum of 4 cores for enterprise edition. You can have NUP license even on 1 CPU.
Another thing which might benefit you that, Oraclel gives you Limited Use Enterprise Licenses for your Test/Dev boxex which means You only need minimum of enterprise 10 NUP's for Test/Dev instead of minimum of 25. This will save you 15 NUP's per processor. But for this you have to talk to Oracle or any third party vendor.
But again best bet is o talk to Sales Rep.
