Which uncompressed HD format best to edit?

I could not find anything at Adobe's web site about editing uncompressed HD with Premiere Elements. But at Cineform's web site it is specifically mentioned that it works well together with Premiere Elements.
And there are also other alternatives for uncompressed HD. So what is the best choice for editing with Premiere Elements?
And how to export uncompressed HD from Premiere Elements? I can't find anything at Adobe's web site about this, but I once found somewhere a statement that Premiere Elements creates render files which are uncompressed, and these can be used. To avoid misunderstandment, I can't check until i have purchased a new laptop and upgraded to a newer version of Premiere Elements.
Why I want to edit uncompressed HD? It is possible to connect an external storage device to a camcorder via HDMI or HD-SDI and capture an uncompressed signal. The price for such storage devices decreases rapidly. When I checked a few years ago, it cost about the same as 1000 HDV tapes. When I checked two weeks ago, the price was the same as 100 HDV tapes. A decrease of 90 % in just a few years. So presumably external storage devices will very soon be competitive, even for people using cheap camcorders.
And there are advantages with editing uncompressed HD. The colour is reproduced better. A less expensive processor is needed. There is less generation loss.
Yes, I understand that with HDMI a video stream is captured, while HD-SDI means to capture a data stream. But I guess this is of no importance for editing.

You can't work with uncompressed HD in Premiere Elements. The file size are much too large -- and, because of the way consumer programs work with video data, the workflow would not produce better results than HDV or AVCHD.
Even if you export as uncompressed video from Premiere Elements, you won't see improved quality because Premiere Elements' workflow is designed to work with HDV or AVCHD video. In other words, you'd just be outputting uncompressed video from a previously compressed file.
It's possible a professional editing program can do this, although you'd need a very powerful computer to work with the very large video files.

Considering Pana HVX200 P2 DVCPRO-HD source and HD DVD finish, what is the better workflow in terms of ease of edit, best realtime performance, and finish to HD DVD?

Thanks David. I'm aware of all this. For future extensibility, the MAC and storage I will purchase will accomodate anything up to Uncompressed 2K HD. However, for the near-term I will be sourcing only DVCPRO-HD (from the HVX200 via the options you cited).
Let me rephrase my specific questions:
1. EDIT: Given MAC/storage/monitor that will well accomodate uncompressed, is the *FCP edit experience* better with native DVCPRO-HD or uncompressed (though it may be counter-intuitive, the FCP manual seems to suggest uncompressed provides a better RT edit experience). Has anyone out there experienced both ways?
2. AUTHOR to HD DVD (whether Blu Ray or 'HDDVD'): Is it easier/faster to go from DVCPRO-HD timeline or 10-bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 timeline to Hd DVD? Again, has anyone out there had both experiences?

Which Mac Mini is best for Editing in Final Cut Pro X i5 or i7 ?

Hey guys plz suggest me a good mac mini machine for editing in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any difference in i5 mac mini or i7 in terms of rendering or editing, and what is the use of an SSD drive in terms of editing in mac mini either than its 5400rpm HD, or should i buy imac i5 with ssd ?
Lets see if i buy mac mini i5 with 16gb ram and a ssd drive, Will it work better than mac mini i7 with 16gb ram but without ssd drive ?

The 2012 Quad-Core i7 Mac mini is a real contender when it comes to CPU power compared to our examples of a Quad-Core Mac Pro and Quad-Core iMac. We plan to add some other examples of Quad-Core desktop Macs (including a faster Mac mini) to these graphs in the days ahead but the point is made.
However, the GPU in the 2012 Quad-Core i7 Mac mini is weak in comparison to the Mac Pro (and iMac) as you can see from the "Heaven" graph.
That's going to affect its ability to handle advanced Pro Apps that make use of the GPU for certain types of effect rendering.

Fusion drive + Thunderbolt but I think you are asking too much out of the mini. It is fine for a lot of uses.

That's a fine machine and, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage should serve you well for light video/photo editing as well as for 'normal' usage. And it should last you for years to come.

1080p DLSR workflow issues( which low res format to use ? )

Hey, Im shooting on a DSLR (60D) I have adobe cs4 and Im on an acer 5738z specs are here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-Pentium-Processor-Premium/dp/B00284C97S.
So as you can guess my laptop wont let me playback in realtime which is no use. I have a video converter, and my plan is to edit the video I need in a format different from the native quicktime files, something low res that will allow me to playback, when finished my timeline, create a new project and import the old sequence timeline, when Im asked where the files are ill select the origianl high res quicktimes and export it. Im hoping this works but What low res format should I edit with and under what setting should It in, dv pal. and then the original hd files? avchd 1080p, or hdv 1080p or something else?
any input or advice on this subject would be gratefully appreciated.

I actually found out how it works:
1. Import HD content to FCPX (no proxy, no optimization)
2. Add .LRV file to Final Cut Events/YourEvent/Transcoded Media/Proxy Media and rename files to .mov
3. Restart FCPX (this was my mistake… FCPX showed "changed file")
4. Edit using proxy media, then change back to original media
5. Export
Exporting still takes ages but I only have to wait once

Best video editing software

I've used Mac in the past, but not for what I'm about to start using it for. I need the best video editing software possible if I wanted to take footage from an HD video camera and import onto a MacBook. I would be making video documentaries, maybe some underground type music videos without all the flashly lighting and special effects. I just want to be able to do a lot of transition effects, screen effects (like coloring & style overlays like theatrical style documentaries have), ability to easily cut & paste footage and edit the audio track if necessary, too. And then I would need the ability to take the complete footage through a DVD application so that I can add chapter splits and menu's.
So which software would be best for this? I was thinking I wouldn't need to have Final Cut Studio 2 because I'm not trying to do some huge production or shoot a movie or anything. I figure I could just use Final Cut Express 4 and still do what I need to do. And for whichever one you recommend, what file types can you save in, and how easy is it to make the footage a different format, such as if I wanted to make a DVD 720p or even 1080p?

I agree, only I really don't like FCE. Some of the features for one reason or another are kind of strange and harder to figure out than the same feature on FCP. I used to teach FCP at the Apple store to ProCare customers and one time they set me up with a customer for FCE. I thought it wouldn't be a problem and that everything worked the same with the exception of the more advanced features that express just wouldn't have. I don't remember how it was set up, but it was somewhat of a disaster. Pro just makes way more sense to me.
The one definite thing I can tell you is that studio is not necessary, but that doesn't mean your only option is express. You can buy FCP 6 without getting the studio you don't need. I'm not sure if it's possible. I notice it was said that Macbooks don't support FCS2. I didn't know that. Because of that, I'm not sure if it would be the same about FCP6. If you ask people in the Apple store I can tell you already what they will say. They'll tell you that the graphics card isn't powerful enough and that it may take a lot longer to render because of that. To test this, I would say to go to the Apple store and try to run FCP 6 on a Macbook, but they no longer have the software on all the machines. They used to even have them on the Mac Minis. Whatever you decide on, good luck. My 2 cents, if FCP is supported I would go for it. I don't think it would slow down the rendering that dramatically. Really, it's just a question of whether or not you're willing to spend a grand on the software.

Mpeg2 is still a very highly compressed format.
There are a couple of basics relating to compression that you might wish to consider. The aspects of compression discussed hereinafter are not necessarily technically correct but are an analogy to help you understand a little about compression.
Firstly as Jon points out earlier, uncompressed video is essentially for editing and would never be used for delivery, compression of some data will make no difference to quality at all as some of the data that forms an uncompressed file is redundant anyway.
A very simple example of this would be a blue screen. Every pixel on that screen is blue and every frame of that video is the same as the first, an uncompressed video would record data about every pixel for every frame, you can see how much space can be saved if you were able to provide data for just one pixel and tell the device to simply replicate it for every pixel in every frame. (There are about 23,000,000 pixels in each second of 720p video).
You can also compress non redundant data by replacing it with a calculation that simply regenerates the original data (or close to) from information about neighbouring frames, such a calculation typically takes up much less room than the data it replaces.
In considering the later example you will note the insertion of the phrase 'close to', depending on the amount and the type of compression 'close to' could mean so close you could not possibly notice or nothing like it at all. The less you compress the data the more likely 'close to' means so close you could not possibly notice.
In addition to the amount of compression, the type of compression used is extremely important, a simple calculation will not produce the same quality as complex calculations, you might consider here mpeg2 (the type of compression used in your DVD's) as a simple calculation, it therefore can't compress video all that much before it starts to lose quality and therefore the video files need to be fairly large.
Now consider a more modern type of compression such as mpeg4/10 (the type of compression used by the Apple TV) which is much more complex and therefore able to compress video much more than mpeg 2 and retain the same quality, so much so that you likely won't see any difference in quality between your mpeg2 video and the same video compressed to 20% the size.
In summary, you will hopefully see that there is absolutely no point trying to keep your video in it's original format, it will simply take up much more space on your hard drives and you won't get any value from it.

Within the TestStand Sequence Editor for a step which has limits, then on the Edit Limits dialog should be a control which will allow you to change the format which is set to <default>. I think you might have to click on another button which will bring up another dialog which will allow you to change the format. ( I haven't got testStand to hand at the moment, so I am working from memory).

It is not possible to provide guidance on what career path you should take. This is a conversation you need to have with a Career Planner or perhaps one of your professors. You should follow the path you are most interested in, be it a functional role or a technical role. Ideally you may want to consider getting some work experience in both fields, and then determine which area you wish to pursue.
You state you have an MBA in HR & System....System what?? System development? Technology? Programming? Data Warehousing? Even HR is a vast area within the SAP world. We have Payroll, Recruiting, Self Services, Compensation, Time Management, Learning Management Systems, etc. Most consultants select one or two areas to pursue. There is no such thing as a single person who knows the complete SAP HR solution...it's just too big!
I will suggest that you consider taking an SAP HR course so that you can get an idea as to how large the application is. There are lots of courses available in e-learning. I would recommend either SAPHRE or HR050E to start. Once you have completed one of these, you'll be in a better position to decide what you want to do, or at least decide what you don't want to do.

Both will work very well. You might not even need to install the software that comes with them because they'll probably work fine with iPhoto etc. Before you buy a camera, check this list of cameras supported by OS X:

Just about all Nikon and Canon cameras are on that list. If a camera is so new it is not yet on that list, it will be in the next update, probably.
That list is for raw format compatibility. If your camera also shoots JPEG, it will work with a Mac even if it's not on that list. If a camera doesn't work by plugging in a cable, take the card out and put it in an ordinary USB card reader and the Mac will read it.
Nikon has a slight advantage in that it supports a mode that lets the Mac mount a camera like a disk on the desktop. Canons don't mount on the desktop, but it's not really a disadvantage, because Canons still work great with Apple iPhoto, Apple Aperture, Apple Image Capture, and Adobe apps, and all of those are more efficient ways of transferring photos than dragging them out manually.
