Which version of iPhoto to make/purchase a book?

I'm running OS X v.10.4.11 on my MacBook with iPhoto 6.0.6 and apparently I need to upgrad my iPhoto to order and purchase a book of photos I'm making. Any idea which version of iPhoto I'll need?

It's hard to know what version you need.
Your current version 6 was part of iLife '06. iPhoto is part of iLife '08 and runs on OS 10.4.x. iPhoto is part of iLife '09, but it requires OS 10.5.x.

  • Which version of iPhoto should I use?

When I picked up my repaired MacBook (Intel Core Duo) the person at the Apple Store showed me how to restore all of its data using my Time Machine backup.  He told me that during the repair they had installed Snow Leopard.  He had forgotten that I had told him when the MacBook first died we were told it was not worth repairing and we purchased a new MacBook Pro running Lion.  The TM backup was from that machine.  The intent was to have two machines with the same Apps & data so each of two users could take either machine and go forward from that point.  Each machine would then have its own TM Backup.
After many discussions with tech support, almost everything except iPhoto (and incoming Apple Mail) on the MacBook works OK.  That's probably because during the restore, iPhoto 9.1.5 was installed.  It does not open because of a Frameworks conflict of some sort.  Earlier versions of iPhoto say the Library was created with a newer version.  (I temporarily moved the iPhoto Library out of my User>Pictures Folder, opened iPhoto 7.x and imported some photo's to create a new Library.  That worked.  My original Library is 35 GB so each attempt to fix anything in it has been time consuming.  That's why I'm asking the real experts.
I've seen a suggestion from Terrance Devlin to "rebuild" the Library using the iPhoto Library Manager and others by Terrance, Neil, Old Toad, and Kappy to drag a different version of Frameworks into System>Library>?  (Apparently, some OS X 10.7 support files were loaded onto the MacBook.)  Which ones and which version?
Which version of iPhoto should I use on the MacBook?  Which version does OS X 10.6.8 support?  Eventually, we'd also like to merge some of the individual Libraries into a shared Library.  Is iPhoto Library Manager the best way to do that?  (Speaking of that, I understand Apple does not support backup of non-Lion Mac's via Wi-Fi, except if using Time Capsule.  Seagate sells an external 2 TB Hard Drive that connects via ethernet to your Router, for that purpose.  Does it work well?)

    Terence,
Below is a copy of the Problem Report I get after I double click the iPhoto (9.1.5) icon in my Applications folder.  Both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 7 open but cannot read my iPhoto Library that was restored from a Lion TM backup.  I tried moving my iPhoto Library out of the Pictures folder and was able to create a new one using iPhoto 7.1.5.
Inside of System>Library, there are two copies of the following folders:
    Frameworks
    PodcastProducer
    Keychains
    Java
In each case, the name of the second folder includes "(from old Mac)" without the quotes after the folder name.  I believe my issue is being caused by the System using Frameworks instead of Frameworks (from old Mac), but I have not been able to switch them easily and, as you said, do not want to do serious damage.
The only other thing that does not work properly is incoming IMAP mail via AOL and Google.  Outgoing works on those two plus Incoming and Outgoing work on the Verizon POP account.

  • Which version of iPhoto you need for streaming?

I have an iPhone 4, with iOS 5, streaming active. But there is no streaming of pictures towards my Mac. I read the explanations, the help pages in iCloud and Apple doesn't mention at all which version of iPhoto you need for this feature. It's sure that in the Sources I don't have "Streaming", as I can see in their image. I have iPhoto 8.1.2 and OS 10 6.8.

Hi, thanks for the answer, but iCloud works on my Mac with Snow Leopard.
From Safari I can access through icloud.com to Calendar, Contacts, Mail, iWork and Find my iPhone. Actually I don't have iWork for the iPhone, so I can't really use it, and I didn't activate Mail (in my iPhone), because all my accounts are IMAP and messages are saved forever.
Well, the only other thing that interested me was Streaming (so is it called in Italian, but you are right, in the English version of the help pages it is called Photo Stream).
I'm aware that the version of iPhoto that I need for that feature must be more recent than mine, but I still hope that there is a version of iPhoto which supports Photo Stream and requires only Snow Leopard. I think that after iLife 9 (my version) there is directly iLife 11 (the present version), and I know it requires only 10.6.3 and not Lion. If Photo Stream is supported by iLife 11 and iLife 11 requires 10.6.3.... But perhaps there is an exception for some features, like Photo Stream. I would like to know...
I don't want to update to Lion, it is a slow system.
    Thanks again

  • Which version of iPhoto works on OS X 10.7.5?

I don't want to ugrade to newer Mac OS, but I want to get newer iPhoto (currently Version 7 installed). In the AppStore the Info says, that the new iPhoto '11 (v. 9.5) requires Mac OS 10.9 or newer. So can I get somewhere an older version of iPhoto, that still works with Mac OS 10.7.5?

You can use iPhoto 11 up to version v9.4.3
You will need to purchase an iLife 11 install disk - try Amazon or Ebay.

After I installed the iLife software, I cannot access iPhoto.  I made sure that I am updated to the newest iPhoto.  It gives me the following message:
"You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?
What do I need to do?

    If you have no photos:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.

  • Which version of iPhoto works with OS X 10.7.4?

I did an  update of iPhoto, and the program no longer launches.  I get the error message "You have Mac OS X 10.7.4.  The application requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later.  Should I reinstall an older version of iPhoto?

  • HT1338 Upgrading iPhoto to make purchase

I'm trying to purchase a calendar from iphoto '08 (7.15).  It needs a newer version (which one?).  I just upgraded to snow leopard.  What is required and how do I get what I need?  I tried upgrading to 8 and it didn't work.  I'm also reading something about iLife and upgrading that.  So confused.  I don't use my laptop much and need to get this calendar ordered.  Any help is appreciated!  -Laurie

Get iLife '11 OLD VERSION and install that. If you are, in fac, running 10.6.8. This the one you need, after install, reboot, run software update to bring it up to date.
    You can find it here:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=ilife+%2711&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps& hvadid=30153376909&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14083724591154258830&hvpone =&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_5bpcl7ey1w_e
This should get you where you want to be. After running software updates, you have iPhoto 9.2.3
    Hope this helps

  • 800 x 600 screen - which version of iPhoto to use?

Hi. I'm setting up an old 2000-era iBook (FireWire) 366 MHz model. It's got 576 MB of RAM, and I've got it running OS X 10.4.11. I want to set it up with iPhoto. Its screen has a maximum resolution of 800 x 600.
I looked at the requirements for iLife '05, and it specifies a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306338
I take it this minimum requirement applies to iPhoto, if I try to install it by itself, without installing the rest of iLife?
I have iLife '05 on a old Mac OS installer disc. I've got iPhoto 4 kicking around as well. Which one I should I try to install on this beast? Thanks.

I ended up installing version 2 .... and it gives me a warning when starting up ... "Your screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto." When it starts up, the window is 'maximized' in size ... when I try to resize it to smaller, the width immediately snaps to being wider than the screen. Zooming restores the size to 'maximal.' Seems to work just fine; all controls are accessible.
I'm tempted to try and find iPhoto 4, and install that one ... it's a closer match to this machine in terms of system requirements, and is presumably has better features and camera compatibility. I might have it here somewhere...

  • HT5037 Difficulty moving old iPhoto library from 2008 (not sure which version of iPhoto it is) to new macbook pro running OSX Mavericks.

I tried downloading AND RUNNING the upgrader and I'm stuck in an infinite loop.  After running the upgrader from the utilities folder, it looks like things are working.  Then a window pops up asking me to launch iphoto to complete the upgrade.  After launching iphoto, iphoto goes back to the original error message that I need to download the upgrader.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the upgrader multiple times to no avail.  I've also tried dragging my iphoto library from the external hard drive it is housed on to many different areas before trying to launch the upgrader, none of them worked.  The external hard drive format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I also tried dragging the iphoto library folder in the pictures file onto my new Macbook right next to my new iphoto library folder.  This allowed me to open up iphoto (Yay!) but of course, none of the photos from my old iphoto library were in their, even when the old library was selected.
I've read what seems like hundreds of posts on this same issue, but can't seem to find a solution that works for me.  I want to simply transfer my iphoto library from an external hard drive (my old macbook just crashed, so this is the only option) to my new macbook, keeping the albums, slideshows, and organization intact.
I would appreciate any help or feedback.  Thank you in advance for reading this!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Bug discovered in iphoto 6 after purchasing a book

Iphoto puts a book thing you can click on, on the right side of the screen after organizing photos and ordering a book. You can click on the book and then at the bottom click on the >> and select play. After a few seconds of music, iphoto locks up the entire computer so I have to hold down the power button and crash the computer. Then restart it to get anything working.

What system and Quicktime version are you running. You should be running the latest for each of them. If you have to update the system manualy download and run the COMBO updater for that version. Then repair disk permissions. Do you have any photos in the book that are black and white? If so are they grayscale color mode?
That being said I'd try the following:
1 - rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 -download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Missing editing toolbar in Iphoto to make a picture book

I'm trying to make an iphoto picture book but I'm missing an editing toolbar so I have no editing options.  When I go to "View" then "Show in Toolbar" - there are no editing options. Can somepone please point me in the right direction?

Where are the editing options missing? When you are browsing your book project, or when you are browsing an event or album?
In a book project, you can activate the editor by ctrl-clicking (or right-clicking) a photo in the book when you are viewing a page, and selecting  "Edit" from the contextual menu.

  • How do I transfer pictures from a hard drive that has an older version of iPhoto?

My old mac broke, so they removed the hard drive and put it in a case for me, and I bought a new MacBook Pro. I thought it would be as simple as plugging in my old hard drive so I could see all my old photos, but when I try to do so, it says that the version is not supported on this computer. It tells me to update the latest version of iPhoto, but when I go to do that, it says I already have it. I have tried with a different hard drive as well that I used as my back up disk and it does the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Its so many years of my life, my wedding, my son's photos since birthday that I'm scared I cannot retrieve!
    Thank you!
    Leah

Before you proceed, make a backup copy of your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Which version of iPhoto do you have?  You may need an upgrade to a major new release, and not just an update.
With Yosemite you need to run iPhoto 9.6. A new computer should have iPhoto 9.6 installed. Is that what you are seeing in your Applications folder?
If you are having iPhoto 9.6 installed, double click it in the Applications folder to launch it, while holding down the alt/options key to select your iPhoto library.
When iPhoto launches, it should you prompt, that the iPhoto Library needs upgrading to a new format. Click upgrade, and let it run. It may need some time to finish.
Which was your previous iPhoto version? If it was iPhoto 7 or older, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader first. Download, and install it from here:   iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
After you installed it, don't forget to run it. It will be installed in Applications > Utilities.

  • How to update from pre App Store versions of iPhoto to iPhoto 9.6.1

After updating to Yosemite 10.3.3 from Mavericks my old iPhoto '08 v7.1.5(378) copy of iPhoto is grayed out with the circle/bar through it. I can use Old Toads package contents workaround to run it; but would like to not have to use that workaround each time by updating it to 9.6.1
All the posts I've found about updating to 9.6.1 use the App Store purchases list; but since that/my version of iPhoto was not purchased using the App Store, and iPhoto is not listed or hidden in my App Store Purchases list, those methods won't work for me.
Is there anyway to upgrade from my iPhoto '08 v7.1.5(378) to iPhoto 9.6.1?  Or from iPhoto9.4 which is still available from Support/Downloads?

Thanks léonie and Old Toad; although not the answer I was hoping for, it does save me from looking further. Disappointed that upgrading to Yosemite has (except for the inconvenient workaround) essentially killed iPhoto for me, especially since Photos does not yet have the sorting functions I need to move to it.

  • What version of iPhoto works on OS X 10.6.8

When I installed OS X 10.6.8, it did not come with iPhoto.  I would purchase a new iPhoto so I could read my all iPhoto library and receive new photos from my camera into my MacBook Pro.  Which version of iPhoto should I buy?  I must avoid any version of iPhoto that is only for versions of OS newer than 10.6.8.
Thank you for your advice!  Merry Christmas!
    Ke Chiang

Which App Store are you in? The one accessible from your MBP is the one you should be looking at.
Be wary if you're on 10.6.8; the latest versions on the App Store are optimised for ML and don't work on SL.
iLife DVDs are now only available from the likes of Amazon MP or eBay, though it may possibly be worth calling 1-800-MY-APPLE and asking for Sales. If they do still have stock, it should be cheaper than the other offerings.

Thanks for the rapid come back.  I just tried that, but when I attempted to download the program, the message came back that I needed OS 10.7.  So it would not download.
