Which version of MAC OS do I need?

I have a MacBook Pro with a blank hard drive, which version of Mac OS do I need for a new full install? I've never used a Mac before so I'm a bit lost on which one I need to buy
Thanks

That all depends on what model/vintage of Macbook Pro you have.
There is only one version of OS X available on the Apple web App Store and that is Snow Leopard. this may or may not be the correct version for your MBP.
Just how dod you come by a MBP with a blank hard drive?
Even if the drive is blank you may still be able to boot the system using the D key at startup (as long as you have a ethernet cable connected to the Mac). Using the D key will do 1 of 2 things.
1) boot the computer from the Apple hardware test website.
2) boot into the internet recovery website at Apple to install OS X Lion.
Both need a internet connection to work.

    I want to know
final cut pro version 4.0.1 is supported on which version of Mac.
Which compressor should I use with this Final Cut Pro version.

FCP 4.0 was the most unstable version of FCP out there. I highly recommend not using it. SO much wrong with it that I can't list it all. BUT, it only supported DV and offline RT (low res format), and then uncompressed SD and Uncompressed HD (need supporting hardware). It ran on Mac OS 10.2 and 10.3...last supported OS was 10.3. It didn't come with Compressor. Compressor was made years after that version of FCP.

What version of Mac OS do I need to run the latest version of InDesign 10.10 using Creative Cloud

No. You do not need to go to 10.10, but it’s probably best to so to avoid this again for some time.
That said, any machine still running 10.6 has got to be pretty old and lacking power to run the new apps.

  • Which version of Adobe Acrobat do I need to install

Hello, I have an iMac and need to download adobe to view some files. I would like to know which version of adobe is compatible with
    Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Thanks

You're in the PPC iMac forum. PPCs can't run 10.6.8 - I suggest you re-post in the correct forum.
A quick answer is, you can find all free downloads on the Adobe website, and Snow Leopard will run any of the current versions.

  • How to tell which version of Mac OS X is installed?

I'm not sure this is the best category for this question but I wasn't sure which area would be the best.
Let's say I have a hard drive attached to my mac (via firewire or usb) and I want to ascertain what version of Mac OS X is installed on it. Is there some way I can look directly into the files to tell? I realize I could look at System Preferences-> Startup Disk. But let's say there is an early version of Mac OS X on the drive and it doesn't show up in the Preference Pane because it wont boot that particular machine.
I hope I haven't made this question more obtuse than it needs to be.
    Thanks.

If you open /System/Library/CoreServices, you'll find the Finder app. Get info on it and it will be close to the System version. There might be somewhere on the Web that cross-references the Finder version to the OS version.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2: which version of Visual Studio do I need to keep database projects and SSIS projects in the same solution

I need to build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008R2.  Apparently, the subset of Visual Studio tools that comes with SQL Server 2008R2 does not include database projects and does not have
Team Foundation Server support.  Because of those limitations, I am trying to determine which version of Visual Studio will allow me to:
    1. Build a single solution that includes both a database project and an Integration Services project
    2. For the database project, be able to import a database schema from an existing SQL Server 2008 R2 database, do schema compares and update the project from the database and vice versa
    3. For the Integration Services project, be able to deploy the packages to SQL Server Integration Services on SQL Server 2008 R2 (that is, to the msdb database).
    4. Use Team Foundation Server for source control of the whole solution, including both project types.

    Hi G Britton,
To build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008 R2 and use Team Foundation Server for source control.
You can choose to install Visual Studio 2008.
And as you want to utilize Schema compare and/or Data compare functionalities in Visual Studio, you will need to install the
Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition or Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite.
In addition, for Visual Studio issues, I would like to recommend you post the question in the
    Visual
Studio forums to get better support.

  • Satellite M70-122 - Which version of Windows XP do I need?

I want to download Windows XP Home Edition. Which version do I need (OEM, Retail) that have passed activation?
At the back of the laptop in the certificate reads:
    Windows XP Home Russian 672
    and product key
    XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XX320

    Hi
Yes, the retail version of Windows must be activated.
In your case I would take a Toshiba recovery disk. If you dont have one, you can buy one from an authorized service provider. Its cheaper as a retail version and there are already all drivers and tools preinstalled.
There you can also disable the devices that you dont need.

  • Which version of Airport Utility do I need?

I am trying to manage and configure my old Airport Extreme Base Station..cone shaped, white, 2003.....
Airport Utily version 5.6.1 doesn't recognize it....how far back version wise do I need to go so I can download the right version?
    Thanks!

Using Snow Leopard you should definitely use AU 5.5.3. Later versions won't work.
If it is not being recognized, yes it's another problem. Perform a "hard reset" and attempt to establish contact with it again:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
Release the button, and the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule will hard reset.
Edit: Bob Timmons may be right. I no longer have an original AEBS to test. The AirPort Utility version is correct but if it can't find the Extreme it might require a Mac running Tiger. If you can locate one of those, I am certain that will work. Another alternative is to use a PC with a version of AU for Windows.

  • Which version for Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)?

I am shopping for an upgrade to Adobe Photoshop CS that will run on our new iMac, which came with Lion (Mac OS 10.7).  I need to make sure I get the right version (I have to get it right the first time!).  The specs on the Adobe Photoshop CS5  only list MAC OS 10.5 and 10.6 as the required OS's for the Mac.
A lot of applications do not work in Lion that worked in Tiger (which is what we are upgrading from).  This includes the Adobe Reader 9.  Adobe Reader X does work.
We also need to find the compatible version of Acrobat.  Version 7.0 does not work in Lion.
Are there any Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat  users out there that are using MAC systems running Lion?
    Marty

Most complaints are related to the Intel3000 graphics with cursor and brush issues. Other than that make sure you update to 10.7.2 and get the latest Ps and Acrobat and you'll be fine.

  • HT1338 Which version of Mac OS should I update to from v10.5.8?

I am trying to install applications that require the 10.6 and above and not sure if I should install that or go to 10.7 or 10.8 so need guidance.  What should I do next??

    Hello,
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • Which version of Windows 7 do I need?

OK, so I didn't ask this in the Boot Camp forum because I'm not using Boot Camp. I'm currently running Windows XP running as a VM under Parallels Desktop 8. I want - and need - to upgrade to Windows 7 (preferably Home Premium) but in scouring Amazon I'm a bit confused as to which 'flavor' of Windows 7 Home Premium that I need to upgrade - packages, and prices, are all over the place.
I've this version tucked away in my Amazon Wishlist, but $163 seems a bit much to pay when there are 'other' Win7 Home Premium packages going for as low as $93 - such as this one.
I use Windows daily - but not for very processor intensive tasks. Primarily run only Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat XI and Adobe LiveCycle Designer. Parallels VM of XP works for my current needs, but I really need to get to Win7 to access some of the functionality of newer Adobe products.
Can anyone lend a hand? Would the $93 version 'work' to upgrade or do I need the $163 package? Or, can someone suggest alternatives (hopefully at Amazon - or if I can download the iso image from another source for less, that would be great, too).
    Thanks,
    Clinton

I'm running Win XP using Parallels 8... LiveCycle Designer is WIndows only and Acrobat XI will only import hyperlinks correctly from Windows versions of Office - which is why I use Office on both the Mac and Windows side, as well as Acrobat XI on both platforms. You can't use the Office plug-ins for Office using LibreOffice (or even Office 2011 for Mac) hence the need to open docs in Word on the Windows side instead of the Mac side.
What I'm confused by is the pricing difference between the packages - I guessing that the $163 package is the 'full retail' and not an OEM or anything - but I don't know if an OEM would even work under a VM with Parallels...
So I may end up with the full retail version, although I'd like to save the $70 difference if I can!
    Thanks,
    Clinton
