Which version of Safari

I'm running OS 10.4.9 – Intel iMac desktop 24".
Cannot upgrade my OS at this time. But, I do want to
safely upgrade Safari 2.0.4 to version???
I need suggestions for best Safari upgrade that's compatible
with Intel iMac OS 10.4.9, which will cause the least amount
of upgrade problems. Is that 3.0? As usual, my tight design deadlines
leave little time for problematic upgrade glitches. Later, I'll also
try installing SafariPlus that Klaus1 recommended.
Thanks so much!

Hi Bee,
Thanks for answering my question. And thank you for understanding the problems related to upgrading & production. I learned the hard way that back to back magazine production deadlines leave no time for upgrades, installs, conflicts, bugs or glitches. Once I have a stable setup, I rarely change anything. But when I do, I get all new equipment, then change everything else across the board in one big swoop. (This plan has worked best for all computers here). Thanks for helping!

  • Which version of Safari I need to download?

I have a MacBook that's five years old and I'm trying to figure out which version of Safari is best for my computer

Safari is not downloadable by itself. It's part of the OS. If there is not a newer version available in system updates, the only way you're getting a newer one is to upgrade the version of OS X you're running.

  • Which version of Safari adds the feature "Smart Search Field"?

The so called version of Safari's "Smart Search Field" will include function that automatically give suggestion based on what you type in the search field, just like this

I just spoke with Apple Enterprise Support since you got me curious as to why there were 2 versions with the same number. Apparently the 47.1MB one was a small update and they didn't up the version number. They couldn't tell me what the update was, but the 47.1MB is the most current.
Not sure why yours keeps reverting back to 4.1.3 though. Have you tried deleting the update and re-downloading it?

    Check Software Update first.
You have to reinstall OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to install Safari.

  • Which version of Safari for old old xp on Windows 7 Professional Virtual Machine?

    Ok, ready for a challenge?
I've had the "competition" (yes a PC) for two years now.
SONY i5 Laptop V111 model series (more details if you need it) running WIndows 7 Professional Edition.
On the Main Desktop, Windows 7 Professional Edition is running the latest Safari as I prefer it as mostly have Macs but Work (College) runs in a PC mindset.
Now I have this XP Virtual Machine Desktop and have never been able to do much with it.
Finally found out why, it had no interconnection to the Internet, so now it has it through IE 8 (again sorry) but that successful installation today  opened up the two year old question that I no longer have the store (Sony Style store closed here) to help me with answers.
Can I get a Safari for the  XP Virtual Machine Desktop?  It appears to be a 32-Bit version (despite the WIndows 7 Professional being the 64-bit version).
All I see is Safari for Mountain Lion.  Maybe as I am not able to search properly from the PC, the  Apple pages as I have on my Mac my home page is the Apple store and communities for questions/help.  Where is the "older" Safari's  hiding out?
Or maybe I don't need such an old version of Safari, as I can't find out which Safari works for my PC as whenever I go in it says my Mac version and I can't hide that since I'm using the Mac to access this Forum!
Please write if you are confused as I am and I'll find whatever information you need.
    Thanks everyone!

    Hi Cooljoe,
Based on my understanding, local machine control-alt-delete key combination is control-alt-delete.
Virtual PC's control-alt-delete key combination is Right Alt - Delete.
Remote Destop session's control-alt-delete key combination is ctrl + alt +
    end.
There should be no conflicts between them.

  • Which Version of Safari is for Tiger 10.4.9 ?

    I have Tiger 10.4.9 running on a G5 2.5. with Safari 2
I very seldom go online, but when I do ,the web pages don't look right, for example You-tube,myspace, even google etc. I've tried resetting Safari and tried to find info on the last version is for 10.4.9. with no results. _Also,I use this computer for audio recording and have to stay at 10.4.9_
*Is this the only version for 10.4.9 or is there a later version I can use or would I be better going to Firefox ?*
    Any info would be appreciated......
Thank you in advance for the help!

    Hi,
when I do ,the web pages don't look right
That's a result of running an outdated version of Safari (2).
to find info on the last version is for 10.4.9
All you need to do is update to v10.4.11 and run Safari 4.1.3
Click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update...
After the updates are installed, repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

When you are finished, click your Apple menu / About This Mac. You should see v10.4.11

  • Which version of Safari to use on Software Update Server?

I have 10.6.7 Server running ASUS.
I'm trying to serve Safari 5.0.5 to clients yet the default is Safari 4.1.3 so the clients aren't getting the update.
When I click on the "Choose Version..." button, I get:
Safari 4.1.3 - which would be nice to have just in case a client needs it maybe?
    Safari 5.0.5 - 37.5 MB - Post Date: 4/14/11
    Safari 5.0.5 - 47.1 MB - Post Date: 4/14/11
How do I know which Safari 5.0.5 to use and why doesn't ASUS just pick the right one when clients connect?
Can I enable all 3 somehow that I'm missing?
I tried searching here yet the 3 items that returned for my search were never pertinent, hence the question being asked.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • Running two versions of Safari

The 1.3.2 version of Safari that I'm running on OS X (10.4.9) is not compatible with the Blackboard classroom application that I need to access for a conference next week. The Blackboard website offers no solution. Is it possible to download an older Safari version while keeping the newer version? If yes, how do I download an older version, where do I find it, and where should both versions be stored? If no, what might be the issues involved in replacing a newer version with an older version?
    G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I access Blackboard fairly regularly with no issues, and I use Safari. What version does it say you need? Currently, I am using the Safari Beta with no problem. But before that I used Safari version 2. Does your version of Safari have a debug menu? If so you could try using the user agent, and selecting the browser the site calls for under that. Strange your running the latest version of OSX, but an old version of Safari. You could also download a free application called Tinker tool and enable the debug menu if it is not there.
Thanks for the advice, Hawaiian_Starman. The
Blackboard site is very specific about which versions
of Safari or Firefox it supports. Some of the oldest
versions are unsupported, but so, too, are some of
the newest. I will study the links you included, and
I will try the install DVD tomorrow. I'll let you
    know how it all works.
Again, many thanks for the ideas.

  • Hello. My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files. Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????? I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9

My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files.Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????/ I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9
    Please help me!!!!

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Which is latest version of Safari for Tiger

I'm using 2.0.4. Is there another version I should be using? I went to this page http://www.apple.com/safari/ and clicked on "Free for Mac + PC.” Which lead me to this page http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ where I could download a new version of safari for a PC, but not for Mac? Is there a version later than 2.0.4 for OS 10.4.11 available?
    Thank you,
    PM

    Hi,
Go to these 2 locations to see if you have any 3rd party extensions and move anything present in them onto your Desktop to deactivate them:
    /Users/YourUsername/Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/InputManagers/
Restart Safari to pick up the change. If it works now, you can try moving the items back one by one until you find the culprit.

  • Can't install a version of Safari compatible with OS 10.7.4

Both my MacBook Pro and MacPro are running )S 10.7.4. The version of Safari on my Mac Pro is more recent (6.0) than the one that was on my MacBook Pro. So I thought to update Safari on the MacBook Pro and I downloaded and installed Safari 6.0.3 It turns out, of course, that I can't use this version of Safari with OS 10.7.4 but there was no warning to this effect when I started the installation. I had a retained a downloaded version of Safari 5.1`.7 for Lion and tried to install it, but when I did an error message appeared stating that I could not install it since I had a newer version of Safari already installed. So this appears to be a Catch 22 sityuation in which I have installed an unusable version of Safari installed on my computer and it won't let me install a usable version. The fact is that I'm not going to install OS 10.8.x anytime soon, because some software that I use in my work is currently incompatible with the newer OS. What I have done for the moment is make Chrome my default browser. But I would be most appreciative if someone could tell me how to uninstall Safari 6.0.3 and renistal Safari 5.1.7 for Lion on my MacBook Pro. Thanks!

You ought to have 10.7.5 and the latest security update on both Lion macs, in which case 6.0.3 should work, or at least allow installing it again, assuming it was the Safari6.0.3Lion.pkg you used.
Failing that, (and it worked very well when I briefly tested rolling back from 6.0.2 to 5.1.7)... there is a 'repair' package that is intended to remove a broken 6.0.3 & revert to the previous version
    http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/49/44/041-8709/a8wz12kl2lfw6574aeff3gsde8twub3z7x/Safari6.0.3LionRepair.pkg
use at your own risk, and back-up first.
