Which version of windows 7 should i install
I've installed Parallels and now wish to run Windows for the odd application. Does anyone know which is the best version of Windows 7 to install ( Home Premium, Professional, Ultimateetc) Also 32 or 64 bit? Grateful for any advice
In Lion you best use Parallels Desktop 7, although 6 is doing fine but has not all the Lion features.
Windows: I would avoid "Home" version, the rest is OK.
32-64 bit: depends on your applications, nothing wrong with down to earth 32 bit.

Which Version of Windows 7 Should I use?
I hve a fairly new Macbook Pro. Mid 2012 Version just before the new display came out. My question is, which version of Windows 7 should I use? I've noticed that I can purchase either the 32Bit or 64Bit version, but I am not sure and don't want to load something that might be bigger than I need. I'll only be using Windows to run The Sims 3. This means over 9 expansion packs+ and their EA store content.
Here is what I am running on my mac:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP91.00D3.B08
SMC Version (system): 2.2f38
Serial Number (system): C1MHN1TNDTY3
Hardware UUID: 8CCE66F6-C4B6-5EDB-9CE7-FFB43E25F89D
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled
As you can tell this isn't a higher end Macbook Pro, as it was a gift, but I am unable to play the game without it crashing since they do not have an updated patch for Mac users - and it is very unlikely that they will even care to update the patch. This seems to be the only guarenteed fix. I appreciate any help I can get, I just need responses soon so I can take advantage of the low prices for Windows 7 before they run out.Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 with full updates for another two years, so you won't have to worry about supplies running out any time soon.

Regards, Ashwin Menon My Blog - http:\\sqllearnings.com
Ashwin this is not correct :). You can install standalone 32 bit SQL Server on 64 bit OS. This is not supported for cluster setup. This environment is specifically called WOW64. As per
Books online doc
WOW64 Support:
WOW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) is a feature of 64-bit editions of Windows that enables 32-bit applications to run natively in 32-bit mode. Applications function in 32-bit mode, even though the underlying operating system is a 64-bit operating system.
On a supported 64-bit operating system, SQL Server 32-bit edition can be installed to the WOW64 32-bit subsystem of a 64-bit server. WOW64 is supported only for stand-alone instances of SQL Server. WOW64 is not supported for SQL Server failover cluster installations.
For SQL Server 64-bit edition installations on supported 64-bit operating systems, Management Tools are supported in WOW64. For more information about supported operating systems, select an edition of SQL Server 2014 from the sections below.
Yona,
As suggested you should install 64 bit version of SQL Server on 64 bit machine

I need to determine which version of windows os in on the computer running my application to make some minor adjustments to a subvi. Is there a programmatic way to determine this using Labview.
Or, use the Application property node Application>OS>Detailed Name. Although I can't say anything about its output on other-than-Windows OSes.
By the way, I think you win the "reviving old thread" award today

Which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks?
Hi,
Please advice that currently we have 3200 logical devices configured on CiscoWorks and CiscoWorks is running very very slow. CiscoWorks installed on server with Windows Server 2003 32-bit and this version of windows it can only support RAM up to 4GB, which is already installed. In order to increase the RAM we have to upgrade the windows version as well.
Please advise that which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks. E.g. Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), Standard Edition 64-bit: or Windows server 2008 etc. Please advise us the full windows release version as we will upgrade windows as per your suggestion.
We are currently using the LMS 3.2, RME 4.3.0, CM 5.2.1Please refer to the Installation Guide for Windows server requirements. Here is the link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/install/guide1/prereq.html#wp1099303
Given that you want to stay with Windows Server, Server 2008 Standard Edition with service Pack 2 would be your best choice.
NOTE that your should not (and cannot) use Server 2008 R2. That version in only supported with LMS 4.0.1. LMS 3.2 will not work with Server 2008 R2.
With a 64-bit OS, you can increase your RAM - which is usually constraining system performance on systems with 32-bit OS. I recommend just putting in 16 MB. Why skimp on $100 RAM with $20,000 software?
Your other alternative is to divide the server roles across several machines. That is a pretty complex task so I'd do the OS and RAM upgrade first and see how that helps you out.
Re "Linux" LMS 3.2 (and 4.0/4.0.1) is only supported on Windows and Solaris operating systems. Plus if you're not a Uniux admin, the learning curve can be steep for your first dip in the water. -
Dears in Microsoft,
We need to have Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 64bit to be installed and due to the fact it is no more available in Microsoft.
I am going to order Windows 2012 with 16 CAL in order to downgrade it to Windows 2008 Standard SP2 64bit. My question is:
1. Which version of Windows Server 2012 needs to be ordered so that I can downgrade to Windows Server 2008 64bit Standard SP2?
2. what else required in terms of product key, media, license...etc?
Appreciate your kind supports.
thanks and best regards
Barznj AbdullahAny licensing questions are always best addressed by a trained Microsoft licensing specialist. You can find whom to call by looking at www.microsoft.com/licensing.
One of the built-in rights of a Windows Server license is the right to run earlier versions of the operating system. So if you purchase either Standard or Datacenter, you can run 2008 Standard.
However, that does not provide the media or activation codes for earlier versions of the operating sytem. You have to obtain those via other channels. You should most likely contact a Microsoft reseller and talk to them. They will
most likely have a trained licensing specialist on hand to help answer your questions, and they should also be able to provide media for earlier distributions (for a slight fee).

Which version of Windows to run?
I was wondering if anyone has tested out Windows on the 2.53 ghz macbook pro yet? if so, which version of Windows runs the best on this model (XP 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, or 7 64 bit)? I have access to these 3 versions of windows right now, and want to know what the best option is. I really don't have any software that requires vista or 7, but I just spent over $75 to acquire Windows 7, so if it's as unstable as this forum leads me to believe, then I'll stick to XP. thanks!
Apple drivers may be buggy or not up to the task, but Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.
If you want, try running Windows 7 that you have already in Sun's VirtualBox and see how it goes, won't be native, not ideal for gaming, but I've used 7 for a full year now - I would never say it was buggy or unstable at all. -
Which version of Windows 7 on Bootcamp?
Which version of Wndows 7 can I install via Bootcamp?
You can install Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate, and you can install a 32 or 64-bit version depending on your iMac. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

I only plan on running 3 Windows programs thru Fusion and Internet Explorer some. i think i want to save as much capacity or power for my Mac so would 32-bit be better or does that not make a difference?
Thanks again
32 or 64 makes little difference, and when you are not running Windows (Fusion) your Mac has all the power it had before you installed Windows. -
Which version of Windows XP for Fusion
I am a lifetime PC user switching to Mac. I just bought my iMac, as well as Fusion because I have some software that will only run in Windows. When looking to buy Windows, there are tons of choices, and one of them XP Home Full Version SP2 OEM says that it will run with Boot Camp but not Parallels. It doesn't mention Fusion. I'm told I really don't need XP Pro, and if that's the case, which version of XP Home should I get so I can be sure it will work with Fusion. I don't plan to use Boot Camp. Thanks
Hi and welcome to Discussions,
if a Windows XP version is claimed to work with BootCamp than it also should work with Parallels or Fusion.
Any XP Home with SP2 version, even OEM, usually works with BootCamp/Parallels/Fusion.
Just stay away from 'bundled' versions, that originally were sold together with a computer (like Dell, HP, and the like).
These versions mostly only works with that computer.

Which version of Windows Server 2003 to use with G6?
Anyone know any pros and/or cons of using different versions of Windows 2003 Server? i.e., any benefits or detriments of using Standard vs Enterprise vs. Web vs. the Datacenter versions?
On which version of Vista you should choose will depend on what you want to use Windows Vista for.
The Home Basic will work fine, but if you need to join a Domain (on a Windows Network) then the Business Edition is necessary, likewise if you want Media Centre then you need Home Premium, or if you need both of the previous two then Home Ultimate... etc....
All will work with Vista, which one is right for you will depend on how you need to use Windows.
