Which version of windows works on MacBook Pro

Sadly I have to give in and install WIndows on my MacbookPro.  I have tried to buy Windows 8 but all I can find is an upgrade version - and on the Windows 7 Professional Version I found it said not suitable for Mac?  Any help or advice on this please.

Is the business requirement due to MS Office/Outlook compatibility, or more involved (political) reasons? There is Office for Mac 2011.
You can still purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft, but with their fixation on W8, they have made it *VERY* difficult to find the W7 purchase links. Google will help. A software downloaded .iso file would be handy for the virtualization solutions.
Do you prefer to choose either Windows or OS X at boot time (e.g. Apple Bootcamp), or would you want a virtualization solution that allows concurrent access to Windows (in a container file) and Mac OS X? Parallels will allow a Windows App to be in the OS X dock.

  • Can i load an oem version of windows on my macbook pro?

Is there any prohibition from using an OEM version of Windows OS to run on Parallels instead of a full retail version, for installation on my Macbook Pro?

There is one OEM type verison that system builders use, that can be used to install on a Mac via Parallels, VMFusion or the free VirtualBox.
The one from your old Dell or Compaq type PC that came with the machine isn't it, that's a vendor specific OEM version.
Of course the retail disks work too.

EAH22, Rosetta is transparent to the user. Basically, when you run a PPC only program, the Rosetta application automatically intercepts it, and translates it so the Intel Macs like the MacBooks can run them. You don't really need to know the details unless you are interested :P

  • Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Which versions of Windows 7/8 are supported/best for Boot Camp 4/5?

    Hello
As the title suggests, I'm a bit confused as to which versions of Windows 7 work with Boot Camp 4, or whichever ships with Mountain Lion (which one, 4 or 5, comes with ML 10.8.3?).
Mainly, I want to know if I can use an OEM copy, and what difference it makes to me, the end user, as opposed to a full license disk. Additionally, which service packs are supported? Eg, SP1 or SP2 or ...?
Lastly, and this is more of an opinion question, but is Windows 7 or 8 better suited to a Mac? I have 2.5 GHz i5 processor, 8GB RAM, ML 10.8.3, Macbook Pro 13-inch Mid-2012.

You can get a better idea of which version are supported by each Boot Camp version in this website > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In general, Boot Camp 4 supports 32-bit Windows XP, and 32 and 64-bit Windows Vista and 7, and Boot Camp 5 supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions (in compatible computers).
You can use a OEM or System Builder license, always that you have bought it from a source like Amazon or NewEgg. If you are trying to use the copy you got from another PC, it won't work. Boot Camp supports Windows XP SP2 and later, so all service packs released after it are supported.
Windows 8 has been out for a few months and it has got a new interface. If you don't want to learn a new interface, go for Windows 7. Both versions will work properly on your computer, so it's a matter of personal choices

  • Cannot boot from usb flash to install Windows 8 on Macbook Pro 13"

    Hi! All
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 13" and I want to install Windows 8 on it. I use bootable USB stick, which I can boot fine from on my PC, so I assume it's not the USB stick that is a problem. First of all Bootcamp didn't recognise it. Fine, I partitioned the laptop's hard drive myself. Then while rebooting I held the Option key to manually select the USB drive, but it did not appear on the list. As someone suggested on the internet I even replugged USB stick to another slot during while on that screen, but it didn't help too.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these Macs:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
You don't have any of these computers, so you can't install Windows through a USB disk. Its firmware doesn't allow you to start up from your Windows installation disk.
You have to buy Windows 8 on a DVD. You need a System Builder version, which you can buy at Amazon or NewEgg. Follow Apple's steps to install Windows on the MacBook Pro > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
