Which version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7?) is best for MacBook 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.6.8 when using boot camp?

Hi all,
I am about to install boot camp, and I was wondering which version of Windows works best for my Mac.
Many thanks for your help.
Francesco

you really have only one choice, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium but you can save by buying the System Builder edition.

  • Which versions of Windows 7/8 are supported/best for Boot Camp 4/5?

    Hello
As the title suggests, I'm a bit confused as to which versions of Windows 7 work with Boot Camp 4, or whichever ships with Mountain Lion (which one, 4 or 5, comes with ML 10.8.3?).
Mainly, I want to know if I can use an OEM copy, and what difference it makes to me, the end user, as opposed to a full license disk. Additionally, which service packs are supported? Eg, SP1 or SP2 or ...?
Lastly, and this is more of an opinion question, but is Windows 7 or 8 better suited to a Mac? I have 2.5 GHz i5 processor, 8GB RAM, ML 10.8.3, Macbook Pro 13-inch Mid-2012.

You can get a better idea of which version are supported by each Boot Camp version in this website > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In general, Boot Camp 4 supports 32-bit Windows XP, and 32 and 64-bit Windows Vista and 7, and Boot Camp 5 supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions (in compatible computers).
You can use a OEM or System Builder license, always that you have bought it from a source like Amazon or NewEgg. If you are trying to use the copy you got from another PC, it won't work. Boot Camp supports Windows XP SP2 and later, so all service packs released after it are supported.
Windows 8 has been out for a few months and it has got a new interface. If you don't want to learn a new interface, go for Windows 7. Both versions will work properly on your computer, so it's a matter of personal choices

  • Which install DVDs on ebay for imac 20" tiger  intel core duo?

    Hi everbody.
Those folks selling install DVD's on ebay don't usually specify which machine their discs are for.PLUS THEY DONT ACCEPT RETURNS.
Anyone know how I can determine which Tiger discs will restore my imac 20" intel core duo SERIAL NUMBER W86****NU2P ???
Any help will be great, thanks!!
    Jorge in SA

Please don't post your serial number in your post.  Take a look at this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159#iMac it will have the version of Mac OS that came with your iMac.  Try to match that with the DVDs on eBay.  Or you can always call Apple to order it.

  • I'm running OS10.6.8 on an "old" Macbook Pro with Intel Core Duo 32. My work computer is down and I need to use Photoshop and cannot find a version that will run on here! It lets me use Illustrator 10, Indesign CS6, but Photoshop 4, 5, 5.5 and I can't get

    Please help.

Your macbook pro has a 32 bit processor and not a 64 bit processor?
If so, i believe photoshop cs5 is the newest photoshop version that will work on your Macbook Pro.
    System requirements | Photoshop
You can get a 30 day trial trial version of photoshop cs5 from here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
Also, photoshop cs through cs4 should work as well, but cs3, cs4 and cs5 will run better since cs and cs2 require Rosetta and can be kinda slow at times.

  • Which Replacement drive for Macbook 2.0 intel core 2 duo?

One of my favorite Apple laptops in many years had been the early Macbook 2.0.
The thing has a nice 13" screen, seems to be a very solid build, and it's worked well since the day I bought it back in June of 2006. I also have a MBPro 17" and a newer MB PRO 15" that are circa 2009 and 2010. While great machines, they're heavy for traveling with, and they are more than a little conspicuous.
Most people who are into computers know these are 3k and 4k machines (or more.) So unless I'm in five star hotels or a big upscale resort someplace, I'd rather not call attention to my possessions in the way the MacBook Pro's do so nicely. So I carry the "little" Macbook when I'm doing a quick trip out of town and don't want to have to worry about the flash factor the bigger and more costly machines seem to convey. (Maybe Michelle Obama can afford to flash her twenty-thousand dollar Hermes Bags, but then again, she's got taxpayer provide secret service to keep her from being robbed. I'm not sol lucky!
Sadly, I now need to put another CD/DVD drive in the machine. The original one has died. Frankly it was that early Matshuhista CD/DVD R/W drive that caused problems and didn't offer much durability or speed.
My question is what is out there that is the best RW/CD/DVD (SUPERDRIVE) in terms of quality, speed, and warranty/ease of installation, etc. and THAT I CAN USE FOR A DIRECT REPLACEMENT in the white MacBook2.0 c. July of 2006?? I would rather spend a few more dollars and get the "best" vs pinch pennies and regret it for the rest of my days. The installation is not for the feint of heart and I don't want to have to do it more than once!
Recommendations on what to buy, and where to find the best deals on it, as well, would be deeply appreciated. Thanks for the help and your collective wisdom.

  • Windows 7 RC Build 7100: No Audio on MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo)

On Thursday, I installed the brand new Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on my MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo). This version of Windows seems to be zippy and far more polished than Vista: boot time is much, much faster. So my main problem is this: I can't get sound to work at all. In the Device Manager, the audio device is banged out and shows as a "High Definition Audio Device" rather than AC'97 or whatever it's supposed to be. If I check the properties, under status it says, "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've tried to installing the drivers from RealTek about a zillion times, the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard install disc and I've run all the little setup programs as Administrator and in Vista compatibility mode, but no luck. Has anyone else had any luck in getting the Windows 7 (7100) to run on an early model MacBook Pro with working audio? Thanks!

Can't speak for MacBook, but for the desktop Mac Pro, the audio issue with Windows 7 install on boot camp is a known issue. You probably need to install the Realtek driver from your leopard install disk. It worked for me. Fixed the audio in about 5 minutes.
    Try this:
    while running windows 7
Insert 10.5.4 or later Leopard disk
    Go to Boot camp folder
Locate the Realtek driver .exe file
Run it, it's an installer file
    Restart.
Fixed my problem, similar to yours.

  • Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

  • Which version of Windows to run?

I was wondering if anyone has tested out Windows on the 2.53 ghz macbook pro yet? if so, which version of Windows runs the best on this model (XP 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, or 7 64 bit)? I have access to these 3 versions of windows right now, and want to know what the best option is. I really don't have any software that requires vista or 7, but I just spent over $75 to acquire Windows 7, so if it's as unstable as this forum leads me to believe, then I'll stick to XP. thanks!

Apple drivers may be buggy or not up to the task, but Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.
If you want, try running Windows 7 that you have already in Sun's VirtualBox and see how it goes, won't be native, not ideal for gaming, but I've used 7 for a full year now - I would never say it was buggy or unstable at all.

  • Which version of Windows is best to play pc games on MacPro using bootcamp?

I have a macpro and want to start playing PC games using bootcamp.  Which version of Windows (Vista or 7) is best for gaming?

It gets into more things, not to confuse but:
XP address 1.9GB which won't work iwth 1GB video cards
Windows 7 64-bit hands down. But if your game or you want and have dual processor, then Pro.
System Builder. No need for retail and costs 1/2.
Windows 8 Preview. Free and runs great but dont expect everything to work, especially any Apple software.
Windows 7 needs 50GB. Paltry amount for today.
Putting Windows on same drive? don't advise doing so. Besides clutter it would go to the inner slow tracks of drive platter.
    Windows 7 SP1 64-bit Pro System Builder ~$129

I need to determine which version of windows os in on the computer running my application to make some minor adjustments to a subvi.  Is there a programmatic way to determine this using Labview.

Or, use the Application property node Application>OS>Detailed Name.  Although I can't say anything about its output on other-than-Windows OSes.

  • Which version of Windows XP (SP1, SP2, SP3?) can I install on Mac Pro 2011 using Boot camp

I am planning to install Microsoft XP on my Mac Pro 2011 using boot-camp. Since there are multiple versions available (Home, Professional, Pro with SP1, SP2, and SP3's etc…) I am finding hard to decide which one is the tested and best available option?
Also any other specific features to consider while purchasing this OS.
    Please advise…

However, I am not clear what you guys wanna say here, I simply want to know Which windows XP can I install on Macbook Pro (Laptop) using boot camp?
I will repeat what I already said given that you told us that you are running Lion on a newer MacBook Pro.
You should visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
And you should read the Boot Camp Help documents http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
XP, regardless of version, is not going to work on a newer computer nor will it work if you are running Lion OS.

  • Which Version of Windows 7 Should I use?

I hve a fairly new Macbook Pro. Mid 2012 Version just before the new display came out. My question is, which version of Windows 7 should I use? I've noticed that I can purchase either the 32Bit or 64Bit version, but I am not sure and don't want to load something that might be bigger than I need. I'll only be using Windows to run The Sims 3. This means over 9 expansion packs+ and their EA store content.
Here is what I am running on my mac:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro9,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP91.00D3.B08
      SMC Version (system):          2.2f38
      Serial Number (system):          C1MHN1TNDTY3
      Hardware UUID:          8CCE66F6-C4B6-5EDB-9CE7-FFB43E25F89D
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
As you can tell this isn't a higher end Macbook Pro, as it was a gift, but I am unable to play the game without it crashing since they do not have an updated patch for Mac users - and it is very unlikely that they will even care to update the patch. This seems to be the only guarenteed fix. I appreciate any help I can get, I just need responses soon so I can take advantage of the low prices for Windows 7 before they run out.

Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 with full updates for another two years, so you won't have to worry about supplies running out any time soon.

  • Which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks?

    Hi,
Please advice that currently we have 3200 logical devices configured on CiscoWorks and CiscoWorks is running very very slow. CiscoWorks installed on server with Windows Server 2003 32-bit and this version of windows it can only support RAM up to 4GB, which is already installed. In order to increase the RAM we have to upgrade the windows version as well.
Please advise that which versions of Window can perform best with CiscoWorks.  E.g. Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), Standard Edition 64-bit: or Windows server 2008 etc. Please advise us the full windows release version as we will upgrade windows as per your suggestion.
We are currently using the LMS 3.2, RME 4.3.0, CM 5.2.1

Please refer to the Installation Guide for Windows server requirements. Here is the link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/install/guide1/prereq.html#wp1099303
Given that you want to stay with Windows Server, Server 2008 Standard Edition with service Pack 2 would be your best choice.
NOTE that your should not (and cannot) use Server 2008 R2. That version in only supported with LMS 4.0.1. LMS 3.2 will not work with Server 2008 R2.
With a 64-bit OS, you can increase your RAM - which is usually constraining system performance on systems with 32-bit OS. I recommend just putting in 16 MB. Why skimp on $100 RAM with $20,000 software?
Your other alternative is to divide the server roles across several machines. That is a pretty complex task so I'd do the OS and RAM upgrade first and see how that helps you out.
Re "Linux" LMS 3.2 (and 4.0/4.0.1) is only supported on Windows and Solaris operating systems. Plus if you're not a Uniux admin, the learning curve can be steep for your first dip in the water.
