Which version to get?

I had have an old Black Macbook I bought about three to four years ago. I bought it before Leopard came out so it only has MAC OSX I think. Which version of snow leopard do I have to buy since I don't have Leopard?

[Here is a thread describing a successful upgrade install from Tiger to Sno.|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2185421&tstart=125] Here are my thoughts about moving from Tiger to Sno.
In your place, I would move to SL only if I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal on it. I think that there is enough risk in going to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine for an installation backup; I don't trust it enough. If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. The clone is your fail-safe mechanism. You can do your cloning with Disk Utility, but it you want to update your clone frequently, then I’d use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
I would use an upgrade install to move to Sno. Upgrading is a very sound process on a Mac, especially when upgrading to Sno. An upgrade is performed by installing over your existing installation from the desktop or having started from your SL DVD. All your programs, data, users, and settings will be present after an upgrade, but incompatible programs will be archived. It is important for you to be sure that the installation you are upgrading is in good condition by doing any needed routine maintenance and trouble shooting. Go [a|http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/maintainingmacosx.html] and [b|http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html#Anchor-43779]. Also, you may want to anticipate any incompatibilities by using these links: [1|http://snowleopard.wikidot.com>, [2|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258], and [3|http://www.macintouch.com/specialreports/snowleopard/slcompat.html].
At the start of you installation, you probably will want to install two of the optional install items (see first page installation screen). I think you will want to install Rosetta and QT7.
Leave your internet connection in place, if you have one, when installing, but unplug all peripherals except as mentioned above.

  • Which Version Of Windows XP

I am looking to install Windows XP on my Mac on a separate drive, but have no idea which version to get. I just want it to play games, nothing more. Also, I keep seeing that you need a "full retail version" for Boot Camp but I have no idea what a "full retail version" of XP is called, as I am seeing OEM, builder's editions etc but nothing that states it is a full, stand-alone version.
What exactly is a full retail version of Windows XP called? Is the Home edition good enough or do I need Pro?

    Hi,
your signature says that you have a 'Mac Prio' ? I assume that is a Mac Pro.
The best XP version for a Mac Pro is XP Professional.
While XP Pro supports two physical pocessors with multiple cores, the XP Home edition only supports one physical processor with multiple cores, which leads on half the physical power of a Mac Pro not being used (with the exception of the latest single-processor Mac Pros).
Retail licenses, those purchased from a retail store in full packaging, are of two sub-types: "Upgrade" and "Full Purchase Product", often abbreviated by Microsoft as FPP. FPP licenses are transferable from one computer to another, provided the previous installation is removed from the old computer. Although upgrade licenses are also transferable, a user must have a previous version of Windows even on the new computer to which they are moving the installation. Retail licenses include installation support for end-users, provided directly by Microsoft.
Since upgrade versions do not work with BootCamp, you have to have a full retail version.
As for OEM or System Builder version, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowsXP#Original_Equipment_Manufacturer.28OEM.29
A System Builder version of XP works quite fine with BootCamp as long as it is not a manufacturer-branded version from Dell, HP or the like, since these usually only work on the computer they originally came with.
And 64-bit version of XP are not supported by Apple.

    Stefan

  • If java6update29 is incompatable with the current firefox, which version do I need and how do I get it?

I have the current version of firefox. When I checked my plug-ins on firefox it said Java was outdated. So I updated it and now firefox has disabled it because it is not compatible. So do I now have to take off this version Of java? which version do I need and where do I get it?

Firefox automatically disables only Java Console; see info below on Java Console

    '''<u>Java Console</u>'''<br />
Unless you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages, you do not need Java Console. Java update will install a new Java Console with each update. Removing the Java Console extensions has no effect on the functioning of Java for web browsing. You can see, '''''but not remove''''', the Java Console extensions in Add-ons > Extensions. • I need to upgrade but don't know which version I have to get.  Do I have to go through each lower version or can I go straight to 10.8 then get free MAverick upgrade?  I live FAR from Apple store, so download upgrade is preferred.  :)

Need a newer version of Os to run printer and software.  Confused if I need to get which version to be able to upgrade to MAverick for free.  Also, need something I can download since Apple store is far away.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X. For detailed information see this user tip:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 )
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is still available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • Which version of Management Agent should I get?

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem here. I just tried to install OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.2 following an on line tutorial
The installation failed during the Agent Configuration Assistant because I was not aware the installation needs the Management agent, which had to be downloaded separately.
My question is, which version of the Management agent should I download, knowing that after installing the Grid Control 10.2.0.2, I want to upgrade it to the 10.2.0.4 version.
Should I get directly get the 10.2.0.4 agent to install Grid Control or should I get the 10.2.0.2 version of the Management agent first and THEN update it to 10.2.0.4?
If you did not get lost in my explanations, I would gladly appreciate any help or advice :)
    Thank you in advance,
    Olivier

I get pop ups about updating my Java version but my system says I do have the right version. Which version of Java is the right one?

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • I want to download the 1080p film version via iTunes on my PC for my iPad 3. But which version am I getting ?

I've just bought a new iPad and want to give it a run through with a 1080p movie, so I chose Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  I have a ceiling on my broadband download of 20GB/month.  I wanted to download the movie once onto my PC via iTunes and then sync it to the iPad and potentially to my iPhone 4S.  However, when I think I've done this download, I look and it appears, by the size of the download I've just got the SD version on my PC. I've subsequently gone back in and checked the box in my preferences to prefer 1080p to 720p.  Does iTunes, take a look at the hardware you are downloading to and make a judgement call as to whether it is up to running 1080p ? (My PC is)  I've looked a bit more closely at the boxes on my PC iTunes and indeed the buy HD box is grayed out, even I clicked the HD option on the film, and more confusing is the fact that in the HD description there is only a 720p version listed.  Now when I go to my iPad, which I synced, there is a 1080p version listed there in the iTunes store, and it tells me that the film is downloaded to my iPad.  So does anyone know which version I have on my iPad, and why on my PC version of iTunes (which is 10.6.1.7) there is only a 720p version listed, whereas on the iPad version of the store there is a 1080p version listed ? I guess the moral of the story is download via the device you actually want to use - but I'd prefer not to download multiple versions of the film for different devices and prefer not to download such large files over wifi.

It seems you have not admin privileges on your pc. However, to circumvent that try the following. Right click your favorite browser and choose run as admin. Download the computers appropriate itunes version (32 or 64 bit) from apple's website. Again right click the downloaded installation program and choose run as admin. This should install it.

If you have only a single home, the quickest/easiest way is probably just to check the properties of %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\bin\2.x\oracle.dataacess.dll
Or are you asking how to check it at runtime?
If you want to see externally what is actually loaded by an app you can use process explorer

i have old ipod touch which has software version 1.1.5 i would like to know which version i can update in that and ipod and how

You probably have a 1G ipod.  To get the latest iOS for that mode go to:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
It is a paid update.  You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Go here to identify your iPod:

The 2G can go to 4.2.1.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2: which version of Visual Studio do I need to keep database projects and SSIS projects in the same solution

I need to build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008R2.  Apparently, the subset of Visual Studio tools that comes with SQL Server 2008R2 does not include database projects and does not have
Team Foundation Server support.  Because of those limitations, I am trying to determine which version of Visual Studio will allow me to:
    1. Build a single solution that includes both a database project and an Integration Services project
    2. For the database project, be able to import a database schema from an existing SQL Server 2008 R2 database, do schema compares and update the project from the database and vice versa
    3. For the Integration Services project, be able to deploy the packages to SQL Server Integration Services on SQL Server 2008 R2 (that is, to the msdb database).
    4. Use Team Foundation Server for source control of the whole solution, including both project types.

    Hi G Britton,
To build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008 R2 and use Team Foundation Server for source control.
You can choose to install Visual Studio 2008.
And as you want to utilize Schema compare and/or Data compare functionalities in Visual Studio, you will need to install the
Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition or Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite.
In addition, for Visual Studio issues, I would like to recommend you post the question in the
    Visual
Studio forums to get better support.

  • Is there anyway to either trade in your old Macbook Pro for a new version, or get a new power cord when the old one has been damaged?

Well i was just wondering.. since i do have a older version of the Macbook Pro.. and the fact that the power cord has been damaged

You can always get a price on what an Apple affiliate would give you for your old MacBook Pro by going to http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/faq.html and reading the instruction for the reuse program. Or you can sell your old one on eBay (that's what I did - you'll get more for it). Apple doesn't do a simple trade-in.
Your cheapest route is just to buy a new adapter. If you don't know which adapter to get, call Apple and they can tell you, or visit your local Apple Store. They're about $80.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Which version of iPhoto should I use?

When I picked up my repaired MacBook (Intel Core Duo) the person at the Apple Store showed me how to restore all of its data using my Time Machine backup.  He told me that during the repair they had installed Snow Leopard.  He had forgotten that I had told him when the MacBook first died we were told it was not worth repairing and we purchased a new MacBook Pro running Lion.  The TM backup was from that machine.  The intent was to have two machines with the same Apps & data so each of two users could take either machine and go forward from that point.  Each machine would then have its own TM Backup.
After many discussions with tech support, almost everything except iPhoto (and incoming Apple Mail) on the MacBook works OK.  That's probably because during the restore, iPhoto 9.1.5 was installed.  It does not open because of a Frameworks conflict of some sort.  Earlier versions of iPhoto say the Library was created with a newer version.  (I temporarily moved the iPhoto Library out of my User>Pictures Folder, opened iPhoto 7.x and imported some photo's to create a new Library.  That worked.  My original Library is 35 GB so each attempt to fix anything in it has been time consuming.  That's why I'm asking the real experts.
I've seen a suggestion from Terrance Devlin to "rebuild" the Library using the iPhoto Library Manager and others by Terrance, Neil, Old Toad, and Kappy to drag a different version of Frameworks into System>Library>?  (Apparently, some OS X 10.7 support files were loaded onto the MacBook.)  Which ones and which version?
Which version of iPhoto should I use on the MacBook?  Which version does OS X 10.6.8 support?  Eventually, we'd also like to merge some of the individual Libraries into a shared Library.  Is iPhoto Library Manager the best way to do that?  (Speaking of that, I understand Apple does not support backup of non-Lion Mac's via Wi-Fi, except if using Time Capsule.  Seagate sells an external 2 TB Hard Drive that connects via ethernet to your Router, for that purpose.  Does it work well?)

    Terence,
Below is a copy of the Problem Report I get after I double click the iPhoto (9.1.5) icon in my Applications folder.  Both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 7 open but cannot read my iPhoto Library that was restored from a Lion TM backup.  I tried moving my iPhoto Library out of the Pictures folder and was able to create a new one using iPhoto 7.1.5.
Inside of System>Library, there are two copies of the following folders:
    Frameworks
    PodcastProducer
    Keychains
    Java
In each case, the name of the second folder includes "(from old Mac)" without the quotes after the folder name.  I believe my issue is being caused by the System using Frameworks instead of Frameworks (from old Mac), but I have not been able to switch them easily and, as you said, do not want to do serious damage.
The only other thing that does not work properly is incoming IMAP mail via AOL and Google.  Outgoing works on those two plus Incoming and Outgoing work on the Verizon POP account.

  • Dreamweaver and BC which version is best and how do I start a fresh clean slate?

To all Adobe Gurus who are willing to help,
I have had Creative Cloud for over a year and I have nothing to show for it. Mainly because I am overwhelmed with what to do. I went to school for design some time ago. I used Dreamweaver when it was still owned by Macromedia. I have had a hard time integrating back after so many years and this is all new to me. I have watched countless of tutorial videos both on here and lynda.com. I am lost. I can not find the answers I need?
I need to get help on building an e-commerce site. I used Muse first for design, then I was told that DW works best.
Which one? Seems I only can get something going on DWCS6 or DWCC,  but not DWCC14'
However, when I did start a site with DW CC,  I was prompted to import an entire site with the GET STARTED video that you use as beginners for BC, but I accidentally hit cancel.
Now, the site manager can see the name of the site. But I want to start a fresh new slate? Is it as easy as just deleting the local root folders? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?
Nothing has gone remotely except for a template that is sitting still on the admin side of Business Catalyst.
I do like DW CC 14' newest features with the PSD comp and such. WOAH. But can I design a website and still integrate BC into it or how does it all work?
Can I start all over? Delete what I started and start fresh?
**Running MAC OS X latest version. I just want to know if I can start all over? Or which version of Dreamweaver should I use in order to get the best results?
Thank you kindly for reading and lending a hand. I sincerely would appreciate any leads or answers to these questions.
