Which video cameras w/HD have a Fire Wire connectivity?

Recently, I bought a Sony video camera w/HD that had a USB cable to transfer data from a video camera HD to IMac. However, when I've attempted to do that, an application IMovie informed me that I must have a Fire Wire cable which video camera didn't have. What kind video cameras are recommend for easy transfer data to IMac?

When you say HD you mean Hard Drive, right?

Any MiniDV camcorder will have a firewire connection.
Probably you have to read [* THIS THREAD *|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=995562&tstart=50].

I Wish to connect my 6 year old Apple 20" Cinema Display to an orignal MacBook Air which does not have a Fire-Wire port. Is this possible? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the Micro-DVI to DVI adapter. Norm

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display.  The display will run without it.

I don't believe firewire to usb adapters exist.
Which MacBook Air do you have? If you have the 2011 model with Thunderbolt, then, you are in luck.
Thunderbolt to firewire adaptors will be available.

  • Do all maxtror drives have 2 fire wire ports

    Hi all,
Im trying to buy a hard drive (maxtor seem to have been good to me so far) they have a new one called ONE TOUCH 3 but I cant seem to find out if they have 2 fire wire ports.
    All the spoecs say this
"We stock 300GB and 500GB version with both USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 interface, please select storage capacity at the bottom."
    Any tips ?

    Thanks in advance

If you are planning on using this for video work you should look elsewhere. It is not designed for that application.
If you are looking for a drive to simply back up data, it should work.
Generally recommended drives for DV and HDV include: G-tech & Granite Digital. Both of them make highly engineered drive solutions and include Hitachi mechanisms.
If you are thinking of working with uncompressed footage, then much more specialized drives/enclosures/connections are required.
    good luck.

  • CAn we have a Fire wire Interface cable longer than 4.5 m

Can I have a fire wire interace cable longer than 4.5m. CVS manual Specifies that better signal intergrity it is better to use less than 4.5 m. But I Found from www.1394store.com that IEEE 1394 cable is available for 10m. If I use this will this work with CVS?

You may be able to use it, but I wouldn't guarantee it. I assume the cable will work with some firewire applications, otherwise the company wouldn't be able to sell it. It may only work at the lower data rates though, so if you are sending large volumes of data it may not work.
I would suggest looking into a repeater. You can use it to connect two 4.5m cables. It is powered from the firewire cable, so it isn't much trouble. You can chain three or four cables together using repeaters before you need to use a powered hub. Some repeaters even have a cable built in on one end. My only concern with a repeater would be making sure the cable stays plugged in.

  • I am having trouble with downloading videos from my Sony HDR-XR160 video camera. iMovie doesnt open up when i connect the camcorder. any suggesions?

i am having trouble with downloading videos from my Sony HDR-XR160 video camera. iMovie doesnt open up when i connect the camcorder. any suggesions?

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

  • Ipod nano and fire wire connection

Is a fire wire connection compatible with the second generation ipod nano. It came from the factory with a USB 2.0 cable. I have a 20 gig ipod that was supplied with a firewire connection. Are these two interchangeable with either unit? Awaiting a reply, thanks.

FireWire cables cannot be used to sync an iPod nano or Fifth Generation iPod.

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • Which video camera works best with Premiere Pro CS6

I'm a beginner in working with PP and need to purchase a video camera which will work seemlessly with Premiere Pro.  I don't want to go through a lot of conversion steps. I want to tape my kids sports, be able to take the raw video right from the camera to PP and begin editing, copying etc. Does the Canon HFM 500 with ABCHD formats provide what I need or do I need something more sophisticated?  Just getting started with the whole video editing thing and want to make the right choices before buying a camera. Thanks for any input.

  • Which video camera?

    Hello,
we are using CS3 on XP sp3.
What video formats should a video camera support so the videos are compatible with CS3?  Currently after downloading a video from a camera it has to be converted before it can be imported into CS3.

Some old notes I found... again, I have NO idea if these are still available
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

  • Fire wire - connecting / disconnecting devices

When connecting a fire wire device like a HD or camera for example, do you need to switch the device and computer of or can you connected it while the computer and device is on like USB ?
    Thanks

Like USB. Be sure to use the finder to eject the device before disconnecting it or turning it off.

  • 2 fire wire connections

I have a Fantom 120 x hard drive. It has 2 fire wire ports. I have 2 computers. Can I hook one up to each fire wire port at the same time? I don't want to try it until I hear it's ok. I couldn't get any info on the drive web site.
    Thanks, Don.

No you can't do that. The other firewire port is to create "chains" of firewire devices.
You may actually break your device by plugging it into two computers at the same time. Don't do it!

  • Which video camera is mac compatible and suitable to record professional quality tutorials to be views on the internet?

Background:  I want to make proffesional quality video tutorials to be accessed by other internet users.  They will be filmed from a static overhead position.  My budget is £400 but if I can get a camera for less that would be great.  I have done my best to research which camera to buy and I am stuck (mainly because I have no knowledge of this field) with a few issues.
I thought I had found a suitable camera - Panasonic HCV-700 but I have identified a couple of issues surrounding Mac compatibility.
I would really appreciate any experience or advice you can give me.
I will be using imovie to edit my video and will probably add the sound after editing.
I understand this camera can film in iframe and that that makes it easily downloaded to imovie to edit.  If I do this will the quaility be high enough to be viewed on a PC or Mac - or other smaller devices?  I understand from what I have read iframe is not HD but is higher than SD.
Or is it better to film in another format (which as I understand it will need to have something done to it to be editable in imovie (not sure what or how much time it will add to the process of producing a video)
    I think my question's are:
Is the camera above suitable for my needs as a Mac user - to produce proffesional quality tutorials?
If it is not - what do you suggest?
If it is which format should I film in to record videos for internet viewing?
If it is not iframe then do I need other software to be able to edit in imovie?
How much extra time do you think this will add to production times?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated - I am starting to tear my hair out trying to research this!
