Which video format is best to import into PrPro?

I everyone:
I seem to have a "lag issue" when trying to work with videos in my brand-new laptop.
Here are the specs for the laptop:
Dell Inspiron 17 w/Vista x64
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz/1066MHz FSB/ 3MB)
4GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm
500G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
I have about 20 video files on my HDD that I took out of an HD camera. Each has the .MTS extension. The smallest one is 6MB in size and the largest one is around 100MB.
So, even if I import the smallest file, the Source Monitor window plays it OK, but if I cut a segment out of it and place it on the timeline and then try to preview it in the window on the top right side of the screen (where it says "Program Sequence 01"), it plays but with a VERY visible lag.
So I was thinking that maybe I need to convert these MTS files into something more manageable so that I'm able to work with those files in PrPro.
Can someone suggest a video format for it and the best way to do it?
Thanks in advance.

Lesson 1: Always keep your original tapes safe, never fall into the habit of using a tape for a second or third time.
I would try to convert your files outside of PR, because it carries such an overhead on an underpowered system. Google for a converter and you will find many links. Here is an example: http://www.ojosoft.com/video-converters/index.html

  • HT3775 which Video format is best for adobe premiere CS5 and CS6

I would like to know which video format to import in adobe CS%- CS^  because it looks like it's kind of slow. when I import the video file as mts

FCP is a quicktime based NLE and your footage would be most compatible if with if encoded in the Quicktime Movie file format (MOV)
As far as quality goes, DV is a codec (and not an especially high quality one), AVI and MOV are container formats and can contain a huge variety of different codecs which can vary greatly in quality.

  • Row of clips to crawl across the screen - Which video formats work best?

I want to bring in short segments of video from Premiere in a crawl to introduce the steps of a tutorial as part of the title sequence. Source footage is HDV, and final product will be on DVD and YouTube, etc. I imported the entire Premiere project into AE and using the individual clips for the crawl. It works if I resize/crop them in a precomp, but it may be putting an unneccesary load on the computer. I am wondering how that is normally done. Should I export smaller clips from Premiere, and, if so, in what format? I watched a tutorial on Lynda.com thata had a similar thing using 'TIF' files at 10 fps for the crawling clips, but no explanation why.
The entire video is short, less than 4 minutes and my system is reasonably capable.

I'm a Quicktime guy, even on my 24 GB, dual-quad-core Windows box at home.  I like QT's PNG codec.  If you're not a fan of huge file sizes, Avid offers its DNxHD QT codec for both Windows and Mac, it's free and it's reputed to have extremely good image quality: the quality's right there with Apple's ProRes 422, which is NOT universally available.  I'm on Macs at work and Windows at home, but I'm yet to convince the techs to augment (gasp!) the codec selection in our edit suites.  So I don't have personal experience with DNxHD.  But one of the guys mentioned below sure talks it up!
If you're at NAB right now, just go to the Adobe booth and discuss your needs.  Look at CS6.  Get your answers from the Horse's Mouth.
Don't think you'll get a straight answer from Adobe?  Try to find a guy named Walter Soyka and grill him.  Very knowledgeable & authoritative.  So is another gent, Walter Biscardi.  You may find them at the Creative COW booth, or they may be busy running demos for other products.  These guys are g-o-o-d, GOOD!
Premiere Pro CS6 is a LOT better than CS5, I'm told.

Switch (free basic version) - http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html  - I'm not sure if this will do WMA
    All2MP3 - http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html - mixed success with WMA
Flip4mac - need the intermediate payware version which lets you convert.  Use with Quicktime player.Flip4Mac - http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4mac wmv  - The free version will let Quicktime play but not convert Windows Media files.
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.

  • What video format is best for video quality?

Would anyone care to comment on what video format is recommended to achieve the best video quality in Encore when burning to a 25 GB Blu-ray disc?  I have the choice of saving my HD video that will be imported into Premier Pro CS4 (and then sent to Encore CS4)  in .mp4, .mt2s or .ts and I'm not sure which one will give me the best results. Thanks in advance for the insight!

does that mean that one is not necessarily "better" than the other?
    That is correct.
Now, some feel that with the MP4 H.264 that there are differences between the Apple, the Lead and the MainConcept H.264. Each supplier has a "camp of followers."

  • Which video converter is best for quality on apple tv?

I am trying to find a video converter that will convert video into the best possible quality for my apple tv. I have looked around but there is so many and too make the choice even harder I have both windows and osx on my mac so I am not even limited on choice in terms of operating system.

Video formats such as avi and wmv.
I have one video that I can play on my notebook using QuickTime and iTunes 9.1.0.79; however, AppleTV can not play it because it was encoded at 192 Kbps with resolution higher than 720x432 pixels. The video is in MPEG-4 (.mp4). I'll have to check out handbrake and see if it will re-encode it (lower quality) for AppleTV.
I think you may need to check your video - certainly 720x432 is way below the specifications of the Apple TV. The HD content from the iTunes store at 1280x720 plays perfectly fine on my Apple TV and if I was you I certainly wouldn't even consider re-encoding a movie lower than 720x432 with HandBrake - it will look worse than it probably already does.
P.S. 192 Kbps has nothing to do with your video bit-rate, and as for AVI & WMV I think you may need to move on from your 80's obsession

  • Photoshop Elements 11 - Video format not supported when importing files

I'm trying to make a gif using Photoshop Elements 11, but I can't seem to be able to find a video format to import that's supported. I go to File > Import > Frame from Video... then choose Browse and select the video I want, but it always tells me that video format is not supported - I've tried AVI, MPEG, MP4 and some others, and none seem to work. Any idea why?

Do you have Premiere Elements 11 as well as Photoshop Elements 11?
How are you importing your video into Premiere Elements 11 (assumed Windows)? Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets? Or are you moving it from the Elements Organizer into the Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace? Does the video play back OK on any of your computer players (Premiere Elements not involved)?
Bottom line may very well be a problem with the availability of the MotionJPEG video codec to Premiere Elements.
The 3 remedies that one frequently sees:
    a. file conversion
    b. download, install of MotionJPEG codec
    c. grabbing appropriate codec from a camera utility if the camera has such a utility.
Please review and let us know if you have any further questions.
    Thanks.

  • Iphone 5 videos from iPhoto will not import into FCP

Just bought FCP X and tried to import movies from iPhoto taken with my iPhone 5 and get a message that the file format is not supported.  Any suggestions?

To late.  The videos were downloaded into iPhoto and removed from the iPhone.  I actually exported the videos to my desktop then imported them into FCPX without any problem.  It would seem to me that I should be able to import directly.  The video format (in iPhoto) is supported according to the apple web sight.  Any thoughts?

And it has: OpenGL 3.0 support
One more space to get that hot air out.

  • What happens to CC or Watermarks when imported into PrPro

    HI all,
my question (s) are about information that is stored in the out of tv safety feilds when imported into Adobe premeir pro. files will be mpeg-2 video files SD and Hd
    1) what happens to closed Captioning data (does it get moved or is it stripped)?
    2) what happens to Nielsen watermarks on line 22 and 20?
Can anybody give me an understanding of this.
    thank you much!!
    Jay Agoglia

Nothing happens to the music on your computer. Nothing will "combine" unless this other person actually downloads something to your computer. Simply logging into an iTunes account does not instigate any automatic downloads of anything.

  • IPhone app, video files and compression which size/format gives best outcome

    Developers,
I have a series of video files that I want to integrate directly into an app ( I.e. The are contained within the app rather than streamed).  The files are currently .mov and have quite a large size ~50mb per file at full hd resolution.
I wondered If anyone has had some success driving down the file size (in Mbs) but maintaining quality in their apps? Or know of other supported file formats that might allow for this?
    All comments welcome,
    With thanks,
    James

Try h.264 sized appropriately and build using UIWebView and HTML5.

  • Which file types will iPhoto11/iMovie11 import into their libraries?  Which are not imported?

I am moving files from my PC to my Macbook 13' and then importing them into iPhoto11/iMovie11.  Are there file types that will not be imported and therefore should not be removed from their original location after the import?

Sure. iPhoto will import Jpegs and many Raw files. Tiffs, png and many other formats as well
Video: Iphoto will import movs and avis. It won't import AVCHD but iMovie will.
Problem is that that information is useless to you. Why? Because video file are all containers. Not all avis are the same, it all depends on the codec used to create them.

  • WMA formats, How do I import into iTunes?

Hi There, This is my first time here...
I purchased a new CD and wanted to add it to my library, but I couldn't. So I asked their "tech support".
I have cut and pasted their response.
My questions: How do I copy the songs to iTunes?
and in the last para of the response, they make it sound like Apple is the hold up for making this process easier, is that true? is there an easy fix for this?
    THE EMAIL BEGINS HERE......Thanks
    Hello Tangela,
Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate your purchase of the Anthony Hamilton CD and will be happy to assist you with the music transfer.
Please follow the instructions below in order to move your content into iTunes and onto an iPod:
If you have a Mac computer you can copy the songs using your iTunes Player as you would normally do.
If you have a PC place the CD into your computer and allow the CD to automatically start. If the CD does not automatically start, open your Windows Explorer, locate the drive letter for your CD drive and double-click on the LaunchCD.exe file located on your CD.
Once the application has been launched and the End User License Agreement has been accepted, you can click the Copy Songs button on the top menu.
Follow the instructions to copy the secure Windows Media Files (WMA) to your PC. Make a note of where you are copying the songs to, you will need to get to these secure Windows Media Files in the next steps.
Once the WMA files are on your PC you can open and listen to the songs with Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher. You may also play them in any compatible player that can play secure Windows Media files, such as MusicMatch, RealPlayer, and Winamp, but it will require that you obtain a license to do so. To obtain this license, from the Welcome Screen of the user interface, click on the link below the album art that says If your music does not play in your preferred player, click here. Follow the instructions to download the alternate license. PLEASE NOTE: This license is only necessary for playing the copied songs in a media player other than iTunes or Windows Media Player. If you are just trying to use iTunes, simply continue with these instructions.
Using Windows Media Player only, you can then burn the songs to a CD. Please note that in order to burn the files, you need to upgrade to or already have Windows Media Player 9 or greater.
Once the CD has been burned, place the copied CD back into your computer and open iTunes. iTunes can now rip the songs as you would a normal CD.
Please note an easier and more acceptable solution requires cooperation from Apple, who we have already reached out to in hopes of addressing this issue. To help speed this effort, we ask that you use the following link to contact Apple and ask them to provide a solution that would easily allow you to move content from protected CDs into iTunes or onto your iPod rather than having to go through the additional steps above. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
Please let us know if we can assist you further.
    Thank you,

How do I import the songs into iTunes so that I can play them on my iPod?

To answer your Question in short, yes apple is the hold up. A more detailed answer follows.
THe steps they tell you to do are basic steps for removing protection or "DRM" usually. Most record companys today go all out to protect there copyright songs by putting DRM "Digital Rights Management" or protection on them. Almost all the world (Last I looked it was roughly 95%) of the world uses a PC with Microsoft on it. Since Microsoft installs windows media player on all windows, the record companys have found it most easy to have there songs copied with the program in the "Protected WMA" file format.
Apple and Microsoft are from 2 different worlds and have went against eachother pretty much the whole 20 something years modern computers have been around. Since Microsoft made and owns the WMA format, any company that makes products that will play this format have to pay what they call a "Royalty fee".. Apple isn't about to pay micorsoft for anything like that, as they themselfs are pushing there own royalty fee based format of AAC. Apple does offer in iTUnes to convert UNprotected WMAs.
The steps they gave you to do (as they didn't mention to you cuz they don't want you to know) is steps for actually "Taking off" or "Removing" the protection off the song. the industry has yet to figure out how to keep protection on digital songs when its being burned to a CD. So when its burned to the CD and the protection is off, now iTUnes has full access to the music
