Which Vista basic OEM installation without a disk and no recovery available.

Someone got the bright idea to install Windows 7 without a license, after 30 days of course the problems began. Now I have the PC in front of me to repair, but the "friend" repatitioned the disk, so there is no recovery available. Can someone please help me and tell me which .iso to download and where? Version is french. It's driving me crazy for a week now, hope someone has an answer.
Thanx in advance,
Bert

Hi, Bert:
You can build your own ISO file if you are up to it.
Here is the link to the 3 files you need.  Select the French 32 or 64 bit set.

The two other posts are correct... so I'll just clarify.  What's happening right now is your system is trying to boot into Windows in order to finish the installation.  What you want to do is make it boot into OS X.  As mende1 indicated, with your system off, hold down the Option key and continue to hold it while you turn the system on.  You will eventually be presented with an option to select which partition you would like to boot from.  Choose OS X.  After you get into OS X, again, as mende1 indicated, change the Startup Disk to OS X.  What this will do is cause your system to automatically boot into OS X when you restart it instead of you having to use the Option key when booting each time.
Relaunching BootCamp Assistant will allow you to remove your Windows installation and partition.

  • Vista has left the building...and the Recovery Disks do not work correctly.

I've spent over a month and a half trying to fix my non-booting Satellite A215-S5818 running Vista.  Sometime mid-March (ah, the Ides of March!) I think I downloaded an automatic update and I remember the next time it booted my desktop was black; icons but no background picture.  Then I noticed on the bottom right it was saying my copy of Vista was not genuine.  I know that it is, because it is pre-installed.  So I ran check disk from the Properties page of C: in Windows Explorer. After it ran, I got BSOD.  At first I just booted into SafeMode and tried to disable whatever hardware/uninstall whatever software was causing the problem.  I think I got it to boot in SafeMode once or twice, then no more.  For a while I kept getting IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL, but I somehow stopped that through the command prompt(forum advice?).  Startup Repair could not fix it,  System Restore would not work on ANY restore points, even before March. The new BSOD error was:
    "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}-
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000221 0x00100594)"
From then on I could only get a command prompt through the Repair Console.  So I xcopy-ed my Users directory to an external hard drive and grudgingly booted from the Toshiba CD, knowing it would obliterate everything, but I was desperate.  I got the 03-EEEE-0000 error.  Now I have a plethora of useless(?) CDs and DVDs I have burned ISO images on of any Freeware I thought could fix it, downloaded from the Internet using my husband's Windows 7 desktop computer.  I followed these instructions to the letter and it worked (I guess; it started immediately, no DOS objection), but when it rebooted I got a window (!) saying something about the type of hardware.  I haven't added or changed any hardware, but I have updated the BIOS recently.  So I clicked OK (no other choice), and now every boot up I get a window saying "Windows could not complete the installation.  To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation".  Startup Repair does not find any problems.  Could it be the BIOS?  I have re-flashed it twice, no difference.

Oops! Sorry that was stupid on my part.
From the command prompt you could type in   systeminfo   , and hit the 'Enter' key, it will take a little while to run, when it finishes, scroll back up to the top and you'll see OS Version and Service Pack you've got loaded. But, if you're booting off the recovery disk, that's the system info you'll get.
If you can't get to the command prompt from the Advanced Boot Options menu, by trying to boot off the hard drive, and pressing F8, I'm not sure how you can find what Service Pack you have loaded.
By using the Recovery Boot Disk, have you exhausted all the recovery options that Jerry linked before?
What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair start...

  • Vist Basic & XFI, random loss of sound and World of Warcraft Hardware enabling iss

Hello.. First off want to say that prior to reinstalling Vista last week, I had no had any issues with my XFI and Vista.. Since the re-install, while running World of Warcraft and Ventrillo, I get random loss of sound. And by that, specifically I mean, the sound shuts off, and I get a constant loud hiss noise that does not stop until a reboot is performed. If I just run WoW and no Ventrillo, I dont get the random problem and the sound runs fine. It is however a highly annoying issue that requires too many reboots in evening. Getting to the point of just trying the onboard sound, which I'd certainly rather not do.
Additionally there is an option in WoW that allows for Hardware enabling, which is supposed to improve performance. When I check this box and restart the game, the box is still not checked. Not sure if this is a CL problem, but something is wrong for sure! I'm using the latest drivers that are on creativelabs.com for my Vista 32 bit system. And again, didnt have these issues prior to the fresh re-install of Vista. Before that I had stepped up the drivers all the way from Vista. Thanks for any feedback on this.

Not sure why your sound is cutting out... but as for WoW, it needs ALchemy installed to run with hardware audio enabled under Vista. I dont believe its in the list of titles included with ALchemy just yet, but adding it manually with the default options works just fine. Without doing this I believe the new sound core used in WoW will automatically detect that it cannot do hardware audio and simply uncheck the box whenever you try, where-as before it would work but still give you Software rendered sound (only instead of WoWs audio engine doing it, it was Vistas - not exactly an improvement). Incidentally, this not only improves performance but vastly improves the sound quality - especially when excessive numbers of sounds are being played. (eg Mass AoE effects on larger numbers of mobs, such as two Warlocks Hellfiring along with a Hurricane and Consecration while pulling the Ballroom - 9 mobs per group - near Moroes in Karazhan) Its possible doing this may also correct your cut-out issue, but its possible it wont. Ive been running WoW alongside Vent for months now under Vista w/ALchemy and an X-Fi and never had such a problem, but then I do also run Vent off the onboard audio so I can use a small earpiece and have voices clearly audible through game sound.

  • How wipe hard drive clean without a disk and reinstall OS?

Running a 15" Mid 2010, OS 10.8.3; after migrating Profile to new MacBook want to wipe hard drive clean & reinstall Mountain Lion 10.8.3 in order to give to daughter as a "new" computer. All I can find in archived discussions is how to do it w/ a disk.

    Yes I would.
The iLife Apps, "i" Photo, Movie and Garageband (And "i" DVD and WEB if you Mac came with Snow Leopard originally), are not included with the Operating system. They are separate applications that you need to either download from the Mac App Store, from your Purchases area once you have logged into the MAS with the Apple ID you used to register that Mac with, or from the second System Reinstall Disc, the Applications disc, that came with your Mac if it originally came with Snow Leopard.
So I read you are running a Mid 2010 MBP. In that case you would need to use the second Original System Disc to reinstall the iLife Applications.
That may be a problem for you as the iLife apps that came with that system are 3 years old and may not want to install on Mt Lion 10.8.3.
If you run into problems installing them from that second system disc you may have to start off by first reinstalling Snow Leopard and then the iLife Apps and Then Upgrade to Mt Lion. Making sure after installing Snow Leopard and the iLife Apps you update everything through Software Update before you do the Mt Lion upgrade.
Sorry about the hassle but blame Apple for that.
Hopefully you have the Original system discs but if you don't then you can order a replacement set from Apple for a small charge.
    Good Luck & Best Wishes.

Thx.Your customer thinks he doesn't need a management tool? He may very well not need Grid. Technically, you don't need dbcontrol either. But as much of a command-line bigot as I am, I'd hate to have to go back to scripting everything, and I see no sense in paying good money for a third-party tool to do the same thing I can do with dbcontrol for free. I'd say that as a professional, you owe it to your customer to question him and explain why this might not be "A Good Thing".

  • I just instaled firefox 4 on my Acer netbook with Windows Vista Basic. Now the typing is very slow, ie. cannot keep up with my typing speed, which is not fast. Any ideas?

I have an Acer netbook, with 2GB ram and Vista Basic. I installed firefox 4 and now the machine cannot keep up with my typing. The letters are delayed appearing on the screen in all apps, but especially in email, and words just get lost if I type too fast, and I am not a fast typist. Should I remove firefox 4?

Have you tried updating your software? The issue with the keys will either be a software issue or an issue with your hardware, if you're on the newest software try re-installing it. It's very simple to do using the desktop software, if this does not work it seems to be a hardware issue, meaning repair or replacement is needed.
Also, updating/re-installing your software should also resolve any slow/freezing issues and hopefully stop your dialling problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Create installer without labview

    Hi,
Is it possible to create an installer without LabVIEW? I am supporting Windows 2000 through 7 and the versions of NI software varies with each OS, specifically when dealing with oscilloscopes running Windows due to VISA conflicts.
The two main problems I have with creating installers with LabVIEW (Application Builder):
    1) Windows 2000 requires the Product Framework before 2.8.0. This makes it impossible for installers to run on Windows 2000 that require product installation newer than 2.8.0 which is basically every installation for Windows 7.
    2) As far as I am aware, the required software has to be installed on a local machine first before creating an installer. Then you navigate to the Additional Installers section when creating an installer to add to the installation. The location path will point to the orignal CD drive or location it was installed from on the local drive. I don't see why this required. Why can the installer be created directly from the extracted files without it being installed on machine?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wow guys, thanks for two blatent insults. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all.
    A little further explaination:
Supporting and maintaining Windows 2000 in 2014, I agree, is cumbersome. However, you have to realize these oscilloscopes that run Windows 2000 in 2014 still cost upwards of $8,000 to replace and the operating system cannot be upgraded. Why do they still cost so much? Because they are very useful tools. And new ones cost $20,000 to $30,000. I don't think that this effort is "los[ing] [the company's] ability to make a profit".
For those of you that are interested in the orignal question posted here is my solution.
I used SFX Builder (http://sourceforge.net/projects/s-zipsfxbuilder/) to bundle NI's software into a single executeable file. Heres the steps:
    1) Download all necessary NI software
    2) Download SFX Builder
    3) Download 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)
    1) Extract all NI software into a single folder and use 7-zip to compress into a .7z archive
    2) Open SFX Builder and add the .7z archive to the File tab
    3) You can easily set the path of extraction to anywhere on the computer, the temp (%temp%) is the most useful
    4) On the Tasks tab click the add/plus button and select Run Program, then enter the path where the extraction happened, here is an example
    5) Easy peasy!

  • Mountain lion install failed due to hard drive failure. It said I needed to repair the disk and I was taken to the lion recovery menu.

Unfortunately, and quite idiotically, I never made a back up of my files and the lion operating system before trying to upgrade. My main concern now is just making sure none of my files were lost because of the install failure. I don't know what to do from here because I'm afraid to make a mistake and never be able to recover them again. What can I do to restore my computer back to normal? When I look under Macintosh HD in the Disk Utility option on lion recovery, it seems as if it recognizes that all of my files are still intact, because about 200 GB out of 319 GB are used up on it. This correlates to the amount of files on my disk. Pleaseeee tell me I didn't just lose all of my files. Any help will be greatlyy appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Mathew Smith

You only need the powered exernal drive, OS X reinstall is free to install on the external drive.
Hold the option key and boot from the extenral drive.
When OS X upgrades or installs (without a disk wipe first), it doesn't touch Applications and User account folders (only Apple programs) so as long as the drive and file system works, (even if OS X doesn't boot on that drive) the files can be recovered via normal drag and drop methods.
If you can't access the files normally, only then you will have to install Data Rescue on the external drive (another $100) to read the 1's and 0's of the non-encrytped files directly, bypassing the file system structure. Thus is the price for not making adequate backups.
    Most commonly used backup methods
In some major cities where there is a lot of computer tech support competition, you might be better with a local PC/Mac data recovery and restore service, saving you some money. But with the extenral hard drive you can then later make that a TimeMachine or clone drive, which you need anyway regardless.

Have got a Windows Vista basic and had run a a trial version of LR4 on it - just purchased an LR5 without checking out the complete system requirements. Can I get a complete download of LR4 so that the money I've spent is not wasted. I am not interested in upgrading to Windows 7 currently.

There are still retail packs of LR 4 to be found out there - for example, on EBay. It's just important to be careful whether it's a full version, an upgrade, or a student + teacher version. And to be certain it's genuine, and has a serial number which has never been activated before. The serial number that you get with that, should work with any 4.x version of LR, on either MacOS or Windows. And it will almost certainly be heavily discounted compared with the previous price direct from Adobe.
Of course the other way is to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1, which should also be available discounted, and thus eke out the life of an older PC (I personally would not go to Win8 in such a case). Maybe pick up some RAM also, if that's a problem, provided you can do so cheaply (since that will be simply thrown away in due course, when you get a newer PC),
Using LR4 instead of LR5 you do miss out on a few nice features, as well as potentially the Raw support and lens profiles for more recent camera equipment.
LR 4 is obsolete as far as Adobe is concerned. They will not sell a Serial Number for it.

  • How to install Vista on Satellite A300 without recovery disk?

Please I'm in desperate need of help,
My brother purchased new Toshiba A300-23E in Saudi Arabia. He has little knowledge of computers.
It was on the display threre.
He sent it to my father in Pakistan but soon noticed that it was full of virues and he fresh installed Windows xp SP2 after formating hard drive.
He gave that to me for fixing the problem. As it is designed for windows vista. I want to install windows vista but i havent got the recovery disk or any operating disk.
How am i suppose to install windows vista?
Somebody told me that i download vista trail version and enter the key which is on the back of my laptop.
    Anybody having any idea. plz

    > He sent it to my father in Pakistan but soon noticed that it was full of virues and he fresh installed Windows xp SP2 after formating hard drive.
This was a big mistake buddy
The recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook because there was an preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
But this is not possible since the HDD has been formatted and all files have been deleted.
Now you would not be able to recover the unit even using the HDD recovery since the files are not available on HDD.
You need a recovery disk and you can order it from here:

I'm having a real problem with my cursor which seems to have developed a mind of its own, zigzagging allover, highlighting things without my command, and basically making my MacBook unusable (it's taken me half an hour just to compose this!).

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Need help replacing Windows Vista Basic with XP Pro on T500

Okay guys...My vista basic is not sustaining itself much longer so I want to get rid of it and downgrade to XP...but there seem to be a lot of problem/obstacle/issue...
I can't seem to restore my factory content from the hard drive and I don't have enough cd to copy the reserved factory partition...I'm thinking if I don't touch on that partition during the xp install, is there a program I can download to have my xp access that partition afterwards?
I downloaded all the drivers and lenovo software from the website; what I don't have is the SP2 slipstream...instead I have a original XP "gold" but I just can't seem to burn a slipstream into a bootable one so I'm wondering if the original "gold" wil do...?
and since this is XP installation I've been reading the access help article on the the installation and the Matrix storage driver..which doesn't make much sense since it seem to refer to driver file on C: while scrapping Vista will surely wipe it off....
currently i'm living with Vista in safe mode only and have no clue what to do...
can people please guide me through what should I do here...Thanks.
+if you need clarification I'll glad to provide more detail and clarify...and please no "update to 7" suggestion..

    Hi drixmanbeta,
Which manufacturer provided this XP gold version is? whether it will work or not; your guess is good as mine.
The proceeding guide is very detailed guide on installing XP on thinkpads, you will find it quite helpful:- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992
As for Windows to access the factory partition, it is always hidden from Windows, the OS has no way to retrieve it even though it is visible in disk manager. On the other hand, you can subsequently fix the corrupt boot sector on clean install:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-54483 [which will make thinkvantage button to access service partition during startup]
The ability to create RnR discs is only accessible on factory preload so you will have no such privilege on clean install.
    Hope it helps.
