Which Vista?

I have a new 24" iMac. I love Leopard, but it will not run City of Heroes. Therefore, I am going to use Bootcamp to create a partition for Vista (because I cannot find an English copy of XP anywhere!). Since the only reason I need Vista is to run games, and the preferred version for games is Vista Ultimate, should I go ahead and install that? The ATI controller only has 256MB on it, and CoH does not normally run well on ATI graphics cards anyway, I am wondering if the Vista version would even make a difference?
So, Vista Ultimate, or just Home Basic?
Or just forget about running CoH and wait for Spore (which will be available for the Mac anyway)?

XP's stay of execution extended. Also, XP SP3 is due out soon.
Buy a PC, or a Mac Pro, something with dedicated rather than integrated graphics.

I need 64-bit Ultimate to address 2 physical cpus and 4GB+ memory. If you do go with Vista, I'd get Home Premium SP1 in either 32-bit or 64-bit System Builder.
Microsoft will shutter its Windows XP line June 30, as planned, ceasing sales of Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home to retailers and direct OEMs, Microsoft confirmed to eWEEK April 3. The statement from Redmond executives ends weeks of speculation that Microsoft would extend the life of the operating system as users turn up their nose at Vista, the operating system meant to supplant XP, and OEMs argue lighter versions of desktops and notebooks don't have the juice to run Vista.

  • Which Vista basic OEM installation without a disk and no recovery available.

Someone got the bright idea to install Windows 7 without a license, after 30 days of course the problems began. Now I have the PC in front of me to repair, but the "friend" repatitioned the disk, so there is no recovery available. Can someone please help me and tell me which .iso to download and where? Version is french. It's driving me crazy for a week now, hope someone has an answer.
    Thanx in advance,

    Hi, Bert:
You can build your own ISO file if you are up to it.
Here is the link to the 3 files you need.  Select the French 32 or 64 bit set.

  • Which Vista version with product-key?

On the bottom of my X200-21r laptop is the sticker with my product-key. So I want to know if I can use it with any OEM Vista CD/DVD?

    > know that some brands, has there own product-keys wich don't work on a regular OEM version of Vista. Is that also the case with Toshiba?
The Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled and delivered with the Toshiba own image.
The image contains the Windows OS (XP or Vista), Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
The preinstalled Windows (XP or Vista) are already activated and its not necessary (not possible) to enter the serial key!
    > On the bottom of my X200-21r laptop is the sticker with my product-key. So I want to know if I can use it with any OEM Vista CD/DVD?
This key doesnt work with another OEM Vista versions. It belongs to the Toshiba OEM version which is preinstalled on your notebook!!!

  • Which VISTA for MacBook (not Pro) 2GB 160GB HD w/Paralells

QUESTION: Can MacBook handle BUSINESS or ULTIMATE VISTA?
    BACKGROUND:
-- I am buying new Core 2 Duo Macbook (not Pro) with 2GB Memory and 160GB HD (currently have original Core Duo Macbook)
-- This will be 'virgin' machine (no Windows OS or Boot Camp or Paralells on machine yet)
-- For my needs I would normally buy VISTA HOME PREMIUM
-- But VISTA legal (End User Legal Agreement) forbids use of BASIC or HOME PREMIUM versions on virtual maChine (like PARALELLS) -- Blog on PARALELLS website confIrms this
-- So must use BUSINESS or ULTIMATE Version legally
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Can Core 2 Duo MacBook 2GB 160GB HD Handle these larger VISTA versions?
    2. Can original Core Duo Macbook with 2GB do so?

I think that's answered. You can allocate as much of your 2 GBs to Parallels as you want provided you maintain sufficient RAM for OS X. So, if you allocate 1 GB to the VM that's sufficient for Vista.
    Question answered.
Now, for Parallels specific questions regarding installing or running Vista you will find help at http://forums.parallels.com.

  • Cannot connect ipod shuffle 2nd gen to Vista

Hi, can't seem to find an answer to this situation on this forum, plugging in ipod causes Vista to start searching for drivers that it does not find, iTunes 7.4 popped one window suggesting the device be reset, but window disappeared never to return.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

Hi, I have new PC with Windows Vista, my ipod classic works OK on this PC, iTunes locates it and can transfer music successfully, however I also have 2 ipod Shuffle's which Vista recognises and asks me to install drivers from the CD that came with the ipods, but the shuffle does not have any drivers. iTunes does not detect these shuffle's either, so I cannot use them via this PC, however they do work on another Windows XP PC I have, so there is nothing wrong with the Shuffle's.
I have the latest iTunes installed - version 7.4.3.1, but it still does not detect these Shuffle's.
It is Windows Vista that appears to be the problem, but only with this one version of the iPod.
Any help would be really useful as I have all my tunes on my Vista PC and did not want to have to make copies on my old windows XP PC.
    Thanks, Fred

  • Vista 64 bit and Xfi xtremegamer working sort o

Well after some /2 installs, some errors, and a multitude of different drivers, i was able to get sound to come out of my speakers!! problem is.. its only the front 3. ie: center, front left, and front right.
When I go through the configure utility in vista,? I can run the test and it will go through all my speakers and ill get the tone from all of them, however when I click next, the box for "side speakers" is grey'd out. The only boxes available/checked are rear, center, and subwoofer... anyone have any ideas on how i can get A) that box un grey'd out and B) the other 2 speakers working? (which vista seems to think the rear's are the ones working when its in fact the front??

  • Performance rating under Vista--why is my memory given a lower rating?

I've been wondering about the Performance rating that Vista generates. My rig rates 5.9 on everything, except Memory where it gets 5.0 for no clear reason. I have 8GB of RAM, all of which Vista seems to recognize, so I don't understand why it downgrades the rating.
    Anyone know how this works?
    Thanks.

Set up another partition and install Windows 7 RC now or next month. It won't expire until 4-6 months AFTER Windows 7 has shipped. And it really runs better than even Vista x64 Ultimate SP2 (RC). Night and day, there things in Vista which just aren't right and still buggy.
You wanted to know why your score for memory was what it is, and giving what I think is why. As for games, even CS4 from Adobe is hampered by Nehalem's Hyper-threading and multicore. But developers love the power and how much faster they can compile, test, and run.
I agree it doesn't make sense to buy something now, wait for window for free or almost free upgrade.

  • SSGD 4.x and Windows Vista?

    Hello.
Has anyone ever tried SSGD 4.x (where x ranges from 0 to 3) with Windows Vista?
    I'd appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks,
    Rob

do be careful which Vista version you gonna use
    ttp://docs.sun.com/source/819-6253/relnotes.htm#tcc
there are also some known issues
    ttp://docs.sun.com/source/819-6253/relnotes.htm#CR6482
    912
as well as Sun JVM requirements (search above Release
    Notes for "Vista")Carmelo,
thanks for taking the time to get back to me and for the above pointers.
I've a customer with existing SSGD installations who had some client PCs upgraded to Vista; they're accessing SSGD mainly to have access to Unix/XWindows applications and not Windows one.
I've been told that Vista users are actually able to have applications depicted on the screen but the printing mechanism (follow-me from a Unix/Solaris box) does not work.
Again, I've yet to investigate this issue but if you know about a way to make Vista "compatible" with previous version of SSGD (namely, 4.1 and 4.2) I'd be interested to know.
    Thanks again,
    Roberto

  • PC Suite 6.84 fails on Vista

    Hi!
I recently received an update notfication from PC Suite. I downloaded and upgraded the N73 phone software. PC Suite immediately failed to synch with Outlook.
Therefore, I also upgraded the PC Suite software. Still no synch.
Then I uninstalled everything from Nokia in my computer, restarted and reinstalled PC Suite.
This time I got a connection to the N73. Synch still fails as it is unable to find any Outlook profiles. When I click "Cancel" in Synchronize setting, synchronization actually begins but fails after a few seconds and reports an error, PC Sync cannot find an Outlook profile (in swedish).

Actually, I found a solution and 6.84 works with Vista.
After half a workday lost on this ridiculous problem I found out how to make it work. It turns out that you need to run PC Suite as an administrator which Vista normally don't. You need to right click on the PC Suite icon, select properties and select "Run as administrator" in the "Compatibility" pane.
These runtime rights are not to be confused with the administrator priviledge you need to grant the PC Suite installation program.
Anyway, when running with administrator priviledge, the synchronisation works with Outlook and the PC Suite hasn't crashed, yet...
I hope Nokia fixes this in the next release. I feel sorry for all those poor people who, like me, got a notice to upgrade their software and ends up with a total mess. Not exactly what you want to start your work week with :-(
Thank you very much for shining the light on us. I have similar problem too. It very hard to find the worng doer. Thanks again.

  • Workshop 10.1 and Vista

Can I install and run Workshop 10.1 on Windows Vista and which Vista can be used? The Systems requirement document for Workshop 10.1 makes no mention of Vista that I can see.

You should be able to install Workshop 10.1 on Windows Vista. Yes, it is officially not yet certified on Vista but a sanity check on Business version worked fine:
    FYI:
Sanity check of the following worked fine:
    - Product launch
    - Views & Editors
    - AppXRay (completion, navigation & validation)
    - Debugging ? WLS 10.0 & Tomcat

  • Vista Ultimate on Mac

I have just purchased 2 mac pro's and will need to run winodws on one of them. I have bought the fusion software to run windows on my mac, but wanted to know which version of Vista,64 bit or 32 bit, will run on the MAC? I am guessing the 64 bit, but before I buy it and find out the hard way it's 32 bit I thought I'd ask .... so does anyone know which version will run on the mac?
    Thanks!

I also just bought a new iMac and have Vista Ultimate coming in the mail with both 32 and 64 bit version on it and was wondering which bit version to use. As I understand it, I will be able to utilize the 64 bit version as long as I have enough RAM (4Gigs) but may have lack of driver support. One thing that Vista can utilize is the Ready Boost technology in many thumb drives that have it. I bought a 4 Gig thumbdrive from Sandisk with the Ready Boost technology which VIsta uses as RAM in order to run it's larger programs. I'm not sure how many gigs of RAM you have. Perhaps enough with the Pros. As long as it has the intel processor though. I'm not sure what this VMware is. Good luck to you.

Given that version 8 is not classed as being Vista

In terms of which Vista version it all depends upon what you

  • Vista loosing Tables ability

    Hi
    I am using Dreamweaver MX
I have just purchased a new laptop (Dell) with Windows Vista.
When creating a Table I hit the 'Table' button and fill in
    the requirements. Then when I click OK I get a windows warning of;
"A sharing violation occurred while accessing C:\users\AWH
    Imaging\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\DreamweaverMX\Configuration\Objects\Common\Table.htm"
In Vista I can't even find this file as the folders stop at
the C:\users\AWH Imaging\ leval with general folders only availible
    When this is OK'd you get a window with;
"Deamweaver encountered a fatal exception. Dreamweaver will
    now terminate."
When I try the button again (or from the drop down at top of
window) nothing happens - no window to put in the table
    requirements.
I have tried to reinstall Dreamweaver. Uninstalling >
    reinstalling. Both with no change.
I completely reinstalled Windows Vista and the table window
opened only to get the same warning and issues when clicking OK.
Can anyone help with this as I can't see any way of fixing
    this.
    Thanks

    Which Vista are you using?
Have you looked on the Adobe site to see if there is a

I don't recall seeing anyone here describe such a problem,

not personally experience it with Vista Ultimate.
