Which way does information flow during a sync? From the phone to the computer or vice versa?

Does it flow both ways or only one way? If one way, which is it? How do I set it to only go from my computer to the phone and not vice versa?

HT4236 There HAS to be a way to get photos that were synced from the computer on to the iPad OFF of the iPad in a different way than having to email each individual photo back to oneself. And you can't delete them either, using up vital storage

My Ipad2 has photos synced from my main computer on it, taking up vital storage. I cannot remove them at all, and the folks at the Genius Bar can't help either. Apparently there is no way to remove them unless they were originally taken by the Ipad2 camera. And the only way you can get copies of those photos back on to the computer or another device is to individually email EACH photograph.
There has to be a way to remove these pics to free up the storage.
I almost was unable to load the new operating system because of the amount of photos on the iPad,which ended up on the iPad as a mistake in the first place during an early syncing when it was first purchased.
This is a HUGE glitch in the system. If you know otherwise, please advise!

HT4236 How can you create a photo Album on your iPhone and import that Album onto your computer (in my case a PC)? It appears you can only sync from the computer to the iPhone, which is the opposite direction of what's desired in this case.

It appears that sync'ingis pretty much one way, from the desktop to the device. If you create a folder on the desktop that is synced through iTunes with the iPhone, that folder appears as an Album in Pictures on the device. But on the device you cannot add photos to that synced Album, so there is no way to use the desktop-based Album as an evolving target for new pictures on the phone, unless you do all the additions on the desktop software.
This really isn't "syncing".
Further, if you create a new Album on the iPhone, it doesn't appear in the sync'ed folders on the desktop.
The configuration for this discussion is iTunes 11 on Windows PC, iPhone 4S, and Windows Photo Gallery for picture editing on the PC.
I'd like to have Albums and PC-based Picture Folders truly sync'ed. Am I missing something or is this truly an iTunes Photo Sync'ing deficiency?

The camera roll is not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing these photos to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. Youc an organize them on your computer and sync the to the iphone if you wish.
The photos sync from the computer to the iphone is one way.
The iphone mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.

I updated itunes and now my songs will not sync from the computer to ipod

I just updated my itunes software and my song will not transfer to the ipod. I tryed a new port but tha seems unlikly because itunes does reconize the ipod it just will not update the songs. I restarted the ipod that did not work so i updated the installed software and refreshed the ipod noe I have no songs because it wiped out the ones that were there from the old sync. I have tryed doing a manual update as apposed to the automatic update but that did not work either. I have tryed turning off my anti virus software but that did not work??? any ideas?

Ive had the same problem and I restored my i-pod then when i hooked up the i-pod it said it was full and asked If I wanted it to select a few songs to put on, i clicked yes thinking It meant it would just put my selected songs on but then it put 675 songs out of the library on when i only have 67 checked. they play wether tehyre checked in the Library or not, is there any way to fix this?

I want to sync a new iphone to my existing computer with all my info on it. The iphone has someone's old info on it and I want to replace that info with all of mine, but I want to be sure when I sync it doesn't take any info from the phone and put it in my itunes, contacts, calendar, etc.

The music sync is one way - Computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases.
The iphone will only sync itunes content with one computer at a time. If you sync to a different computer it will erase the current contennt and replace with the content of the new computer.
The iphone is not a storage device, it simply mirrors the selcted content of your computer.

Anyone notice music playing pauses on IPhone during music sync from the cloud?

I downloaded a album from my Macbook Pro to test the new music auto sync feature on my IPhone. While I was downloading the album on my MBP I started playing the first song that was synced to my IPhone. I noticed that after every song that was synced to my IPhone the music playing would pause for a 1/2 second then continue. I tested this out with WIFI and on 3G and got the same results. I found it a bit annoying and I don't think this is "feature" to let me know a song has been synced onto my IPhone. Now I do understand this feature is in BETA so I hope it gets fixed when its finally released.

I have had this exact same thing happen to me. It is really annoying to have those pauses. Some songs have multiple pauses. I hope this is resolved when the final product is released.

Firefox sync does not show up under "sync" on the computer I originally set it up on. How do I get it back?

When I try and add new devices, I go to the options on Win7 and hit the sync tab and there are no scripts showing I have an account nor a script to add device. If I try to create a new account to have it show up on this computer, it won't allow me, says it is already in use.

System is Win7 as shown above.
Right after opening FF, you can press alt+space, then release and press m. You should now be able to use the arrow keys to move the window around the screen until it's visible.

Stupid newbie question here: When setting up for hot sync, both PC and smartphone will ask for "device name" but how do I know which devide I'm naming? If I'm on the phone, do I specify the phone or the computer; and vice versa.

It's more like naming the partnership. By "naming" your device is doesn't do anything harmful. If you name it Pat's Treo, when syncing it tot he computer, hotsync will say "Syncing with Pat's Treo." You can name your device Fido for all it matters.

I have numbers 09 on both my iPad and iMac. I also have the same spreadsheet on both. I just made a change on the mac spreadsheet which I also want on the iPad spreadsheet. When I sync will it change my iPad spreadsheet or will it change the iMac. I assume one way or the other they will both be the same.

for what your trying to do, you need to have one active document at a time. When you sync from the desktop to the ipad, that should now be your working copy. When you bring it off back onto your desktop, that should now be your working copy. If you make a change to both desktop and ipad copies, I do not know of any way of merging them back together again smoothly.

How to sync my iphone to my MacBook Pro and vice versa as it no longer seems to be doing? When I initially set up everything it worked fine; however, now my contacts are not syncing between devices?
I have Icloud and even paid for ectra storage to see if this was the issue but it doesnt seems to be. When I try and view devices on my itunes to sync it will not allow - blank option?

I don't know how you got to your current position, but you might want to start by replacing your calendar with your MacBook Pro calendar if it is correct (if it isn't, skip this): first disable calendar syncing on your phone (Settings>iCloud>Calendars set to OFF), then prior to syncing open iTunes on your computer and disable automatic syncing (under Preferences>Devices>Disable...from syncing automatically syncing). Next connect your phone and set your sync settings on the Info tab to Syc Calendars with iCal, and below under Advanced choose "Replace Information on this iPhone" and check Calendars. Now sync and this will hopefully replicate your MacBook calendar on your iPhone.
Next, carefully review this to see that you have correctly set up iCloud on both your phone and your MacBook: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/, and that your meet the minimum system requirements (latest version of iOS on your phone, latest version of iTunes, OSX Lion 10.7.2 or later).

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

Apparantly it is, On My Mac contacts don't appear in iCloud, anywhere.
Put all your contacts on all of your devices in iCloud (assuming that's where you want them to be)
Go to www.icloud.com, login and see what you actually have in the account.
