Which way for 3G access?

Hi,
Has anyone tried 'tethering' a MBA with the iPhone 4? Does it work well?
How does tethering compare with a USB 3G modem?
Our cable modem goes down whenever the weather gets wet...
Thanks for any insights.
Jerry

Oh I'm using the Tethering Option of my Iphone 4 every day. IT's fantastic and so easy to use. On your IPhone the tethering option can remain enabled everytime as it won't use battery power while not connected. That makes it extrem easy when connecting to the Mac.
If doing so, you just have to click on the bluetooth symbol at the top of the screen, move to Iphone4 and connect to network.
Thats all and you will be connected to the internet. On the IPhone will appear "Internet Tethering" in blue letters, but you can use it as usual in this time as well.
For disconnect just click on bluetooth, Iphone, disconnect and and the blue letters on the IPhone will disappear.

  • Case, cover, or bare- which way for the iPad Air?

Love the iPad Air-- light, fast, elegant, and fun!
Like the look of it, though I am concerned about the smooth back and the possibility of a drop; and the exposed front and back potentially leading to scratches by setting it down!
So, tried a wonderful, light, inexpensive, well constructed case by Fintie (have one on my iPad Mini and it works great!).  The iPad Air version is only slightly over 7 ounces, but with the Air in it, the Air no longer seems so light, airy, and appealing!
I'm thinking that I need a combination of a light "smart cover" with a thin clear, see-through vinyl, scratch-protecting sheet for the back.  That way, the Air'll have some protection from scratches and screen damage, but it could also leave its "docking" station (i.e., take off the cover).
Any recommendations for such combos?  Do they even exist?

Well, I may have found one... there was a sizing problem, but it seems they've fixed that.  Anyone here tried it?

  • Which way for 7x5 paper in D7160?

I'm trying to print a landscape format photo onto 7x5 paper in my Photosmart D7160 using Photoshop Elements 6.
I've tried putting the paper in the Main tray in both landscape and portrait positions, aliginging it to the right-hand side (as you look at the printer from the front).
But all I get is half the image.
How do I align the paper properly and what settings do I use to get the full print.
    Thanks in advance.

You should load the paper in portrait mode, long side against the right hand edge of the paper guide. In Elements when you select Print you need to set the paper size to 7 x 5 and then go into the printer preferences ( I don't have Elements 6 but I have 8) In Elements 8 this is found by selecting Change Settings and then Advanced Settings. This takes you to the HP printer preference page. Select the Color tab on this page and then select Show Preview before printing. The OK back out to the Elements print page and select Print. It takes a while but you will then get a HP preview page which shows you how the page will look when printed. Your landscape image should be on its side. If it is select the Print option, otherwise select the Cancel.
If you have had to cancel then repeat the above until you come to the HP printer preferences (via Change Settings, Advanced Setting) and select the Printing Shortcuts tab.  On this page select the paper size again, Color Management - set to Adobe RGB and Orientation - set to Landscape then go t the Color tab again and make sure the Show Preview is checked.
Your print should now appear the right way up.
    Good luck

  • Not sure which way to go for transfer.....

First; let me say that I did search for the answer to this, but I'm not sure which way to go with a lot of the answers. I'm sorry I'm asking this question for the umpteenth time. Yes; I'm one of those that understands enough about computers to make me dangerous...
Our computers are set up on a home network. Before I got my iPod last year, we ripped all our CDs and saved them on a completely separate external drive named "M" (for music), so all 3 computers could have access to the information on the M drive.
I get my pod & have the office computer set up to be the 'main' iTunes location, since we purchased a USB2 hub for it. I quickly learned how to direct iTunes to 'pull' the music from the M file & understand how all that works. Life is good. I even took the time to put an album art file on the M drive & insterted everything into iTunes by 'hand'.
Bless my hubby's heart. Completely filled with computer envy, he just purchased me a brand spanking new shiney computer. Needless to say, with all these new bells and whistles, I can now use my computer as the 'home base' for all things iPod/iTunes instead of having to go downstairs to do updates, etc.
I looked up & printed out "How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer" from the Apple web site, which basically says to download everything onto my iPod's harddrive & do the transfer on the new machine.
I think what I'm trying to ask, is since all the music is located on an external drive:
When I download iTunes to iPod harddrive, are all the tags still in place? Will all the album art be correct, so when I download it onto the new computer, everything will be identical to what's on the old computer?
    --or--
Is there another trick I can do to have everthing the same on the new computer?
    --or--
Am I better off just having my computer go to the M drive & upload all the music onto my new computer & reload all the album art by hand again?
My real hesitation on this method is I have a lot of things on the M drive that I changed the tags on in iTunes, & I would really hate to go & search through everything again & redo what tags I can find wrong.
I know that this may sound like a lot of trivial questions, but with over 6,000 tracks, I'd really like the process to go as smoothly as possible.
And once again; I'm sorry if this seems like just another 'how do I transfer' question. As I was reading the search results, I didn't notice anything that dealt with external drives being involved & I don't know if any of that makes a differance or not in all of this.
Thank you SO MUCH for your time!!

You will need a Mac, with OS X 10.6+ on it, to be able to develop iOS apps.

  • Several years ago, I purchased hundreds of dollars worth of music.  Subsequently, the computer I used was stolen and I now have an IPOD Nano.  Isn't there a way for me to access that music I paid for and download it to the new Ipod.

This is a question. As I previously stated, I purchased hundreds of dollars of music for my original IPOD.  It and the computer onto which I downloaded the music have been (for lack of a better term) mislocated or destroyed.  I know own an IPOD Nano.  Isn't there a way for me to retrieve the music I purchased to download onto the new IPOD.  It seems to me that since I paid for it, Itunes should have a record of it and I should still be allowed to access it for a download.

If you are living in the US and using iTunes 10.3 or later you can use the iCloud beta program to redownload your purchases.  See this article for more details.

  • Any way to save password for wiki access?

Is there any way to save the password for wiki access?
I don't want to require my users to put in a password for the wiki when they've already put one in for their user account.

Safari and Firefox refuse to store the password in the keychain because we never actually submit the form. This is because we use JavaScript to digest the password before sending it up. That allows you to have a non-SSL site (and, correspondingly, not have to deal with certificates) but also not send passwords in clear-text and provide a Logout button (which standard HTTP and Kerberos authentication methods don't allow). In order for us to support storing passwords in the system keychain, we would have to either send passwords in the clear, remove the logout button, or require everyone to acquire and set up certificates for all of their sites.
Given these constraints, the best solution is a "remember me" checkbox which saves your session and keeps you logged in, and we're currently working on that.

  • I have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

i have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

    Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

So, since his Apple ID was the one programmed into our Apple TV's he has custody to everything.  I know there has to be a solution for this, because I can't be the be the only person this has ever happened too!

    Unfortunately the situation is thus...
Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

  • Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.
    Best of luck.

    ingridlisa,
I'd suggest to ask them to create Shared PhotoStreams and to invite you to view the streams, see:

Will you be collecting the photos in iPhoto on your iPhone or on a Mac? On a Mac a Shared PhotoStream requires Mac OS X 10.8.2.

  • What's the best way for me you display my ipad on to my laptop which will then be on a projector

What is the bext way for me to mirror my iPad to my Windows 8 laptop?  I installed Reflector mirroring software which works fine from home as my Network is compatible with the Reflector software, however, when I try and use/display via other places, it doesn't work.  Aparently this is due to some networks not having the capabilities.
    Any suggestions please?

When networks can't support the refloctor application here are other choices
    a) Use an Elmo Document camera for hardware, and use the Elmo software called imageMate to show the ipad screen on the screen of your laptop/desktop.   It works better than Reflector, because you also get the fingers of the ipad operator.   If you are training people how to use an ipad app, the finger gestures are essential, and left out of the reflector Application
    b) Try this guide ( 5 ways to show ipad on a projector )
