Which will be faster downtime or resource minimized

Hi all,
We are planning to perform our upgrade from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6 (EHP4).
We are doing all the tasks including initialization, extractions...till finalisation during the downtime weekend itself, since we are migrating to a different server, we have decided to do this.
So in that case, which scenario will be faster downtime minized approach or resource minimized approach
I trust resource minimized will be faster.

Hi Senthil,
Downtime minimized will be the faster way to complete the upgrade.
s ince we are migrating to a different server
I suggest you not to change anything till completion of upgrade activity or better to start later it can ruin your project plan.
Better way is to Migrate your hardware/server , start preparation , initialization,extraction everything on new server only .
After migration, how you will verify that all pre-requisites are still matched.
So better to move safe!

Changing Upgrade Strategy from Downtime Minimized to Resource Minimized

I have started a QAS upgrade to ECC 6.0 in Downtime Minimized mode. It appears that I have not started it soon enough, or have not allocated enough resources to the upgrade. Since in my system there is very little activity at night, I was wondering if it was possible to allocate more resources to the upgrade or switch to Resource Minimized mode, then switch back to downtime minimized in the morning. Anyone have any thoughts?

Am I allowed to answer my own question? Well here goes. If you kill the upgrade during the EU_IMPORT phases you can choose to change to 'fast import' for the remainder.

Which one of these Macbooks (configurations) will be faster?

I'm debating between a 13'' macbook air and a macbook pro.
The MacBook pro is a 2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz and 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM BUT with a 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
The MacBook Air is 1.8GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i5 with 4GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM BUT has a solid state drive
I heard a solid state drive makes a huge difference in speed but I don't know how much. if they will match in performance I will go for air's portability but if the pro far outweighs in speed I might go with it.
for cost issues I am maxing out at those 2 options. is there a clear winner for which is the faster (stronger) computer?

The SSD may be faster than the HDD, but the MBP should be about 4 times faster than the MBA.

Your second version is selecting twice from the same table (orders). The first version needs only one read over this table. So there is a good chance that the first version is faster than the second.
However there is always a possibility depending on indexes etc. that it is otherwise.

distinct role_cd is 1,2,3,4 and null in product table

I have 13 millions record in this table and there is no index on role_cd

I tried this (11gR2) and get below, but still not sure if it is safe to say that the second one is better:

Resource minimized for ECC 6.0 with EHp5 upgrade

Hi All
Please can anybody help with the resource downtime queries?
1. During the shadow instance installation do we need to down the production system? Or we can install in parallel with the prodcution instance and during the upgrade activities we will shutdown the production isntance.
2. How much downtime is required for end to end if we go for Downtime minimised or Resource minimised?

Hi,
Main difference between the resource minimized and downtime minimized strategies is - the length of production system downtime. As per the upgrade guide:
- if you go with resource minimized, the downtime of system starts at the end of preparation phase itself.
- if you go with downtime minimized, the downtime of system starts in between the actual upgrade - when actual import starts.
- the end of system downtime, ends at the same time - irrespective of the strategy chosen.
Would suggest you to refer to: https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000749432010E Section 3.2 especially.
Hence the length of downtime for your system - increases if you choose the resource minimized. But however, as Sunny mentioned, we here in the forum cannot give you an exact downtime value for each of the strategies. It depends on a lot of factors and best approach is to do test runs for the your system - using both the strategies and then compare the results.

Impact of Unplanned downtime of Resources

Hi All:
I have a quick question. If a resource has an unplanned downtime, I would like to view the impact it has on the product produced in that resource during the unplanned downtime and the impact it has on all the orders of products pegged to the one produced in this resource.

Hi Narayanan,
If a resource has unplanned downtime, if you want to see the impact by viewing the nature of orders that are getting affected, you can use t-code /sapapo/rrp4 and /sapapo/rrp1 and select the planning version, from, to periods, location, resource etc., and download the orders (like dependent demends, requirements, receipts, etc.,) which will give you the entire information on the nature of demand affected and nature of orders that are affected.

Extension which will provide Custom Soa components from component palette.

I was asked to created an extension which will aid in helping the development faster and enable following standards strictly.
So I have to create an extension which will add the following functionality.
I have to add custom components in component palette which can be dragged dropped in composite editor similar to that of JMS Adapter extra.
So Can you please look into the requirement and give me some pointers.
Update: I was able to add a custom component to the component palette with the help cppageprovider example. But the component does nothing.
I want to know how the drag and dropping is done.
How to extend BPEL designer to add my own activities palette icon/item? I am stuck at exactly the same point as his.
I know it is difficult to get an answer during christmas! But I have deadline. :(

Adding category in types of Downtime in Resources in APO.any setting?

Adding category in types of Downtime in Resources in APO.
Three categories exist under downtime tab in resources like planned downtime,resource inactive and pm order.Iwant to add one more category based on some other functionality.
Is there any SPRO or other configuration setting through which I can do this?

I dont think there is any setting in SPRO to add the custom type of downtime in resources.I checked the technical details of this field and found that these 3 types are defined in the Domain /SAPAPO/CRES_DOWNTIME_TYPE of Data Element /SAPAPO/CRES_DOWNTIME_TYPE So I think we can not add or change the types in it.

VinodYou've misunderstood how it works, I think. When you do the "insert into ... select", Oracle works out what rows need to be inserted and does them in one fell swoop. That's 2 context switches only, with the bulk of the work being done by the SQL engine.
When you do the BULK COLLECT + FORALL, you're telling Oracle to first identify the rows (that's two context switches straight off; one from PL/SQL to SQL and then back to PL/SQL again), load them into a collection, then loop through the collection and insert the records X rows at a time (which could be all records or whatever you set as the LIMIT on the FORALL) (again, with the context switching between PL/SQL and SQL and back again through each loop).
Which one sounds like it does the least amount of work? Not the BULK COLLECT, right?

How do I use Edge Animate to make a clickable image which can be used in Author, and which will redirect you to a different page in your ebook?

If anyone has experience with Edge Animate, I know that I can make an image clickable, and I can insert a url to define where it will go once clicked. But I want to make a widget to use in iBooks Author, that can take the reader to a certain page of the book. Is this possible?

You can add it as a file attachment. Exactly how you do this depends on the version of Acrobat you're using, but if you open the Attachments panel, you should see where you can add a file.
