Which would sound better????

I was going to transfer my PCI Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card to my new PC which will be running on a MSI K4M4-V mboard.
Should I transfer the card or will the onboard sound off the mboard, ie VIA1617A Codec 5.1 Channel AC'97 software audio, sound better???
Thanks
Richard

I agree with osnavi. I had a sound blaster audigy in my computer when I first built it. Thought everything sounded great. Then I had some hardware conflicts and the sound card was to blame, so I removed it for troubleshooting purposes and forgot to put it back in. I started playing one of my games and I was astonished... The onboard was actually able to produce lower bass and in general sounded clearer.
As you have a different board than I do try both. Get a song that has extremes in both high and low sound and see which you like better. One thing as both ironcatt and kafkacell mentioned is in using the onboard sound, the CPU is used more, but with a seperate sound card some pressure is taken off of the CPU because the card is able to handle it. Performance in games is where you will notice most of the difference. But I have never even thought about going back to that card (although I am eyeing the new X-Fi cards).
Good Luck

  • Samsung SCH-u370 vs. Kin TWOm ; Which would be better for the texter?

    So my plan is going to end in about two months so I decided to research some new feature phones online.
    Since I text often, I wanted a phone with a full keyboard, having a touch screen would be nice as well.
    The Samsung SCH-u370 isn't offered on at VZW anymore, but Bestbuy online still has a stock of it.
    The Kin TWOm looks like a very good phone (8MP camera, slide-out keyboard, etc.) but it didn't have good reviews for some reason.
    I mainly use my phone for texting, but will call for roughly 1-2 hours every other night during the week.
    Shelling out 50$ isn't a big deal for me, but free is always better.
    For the users that have experience with either phone or even both, which would you reccomend and why?
    P.S.
    - If they're any other keyboard feature phones coming out in the next two months, I would love to take them into consideration.
    Thank you so much!

    I have both.
    The u370 UI is much more polished, font sizes are great, you can adjust them. You can doodle/notate on pics. It's 3" resistive touchscreen. You can use finger nail or some dull pointer if touch is slightly off. I have not tested the e-mail/web browser as the phone doesn't have wi-fi and i don't have data plan. Music player is very basic, haven't tested video. No microSD card is included. The camera is 3MP, no flash, but there is night mode (more sensitive to light, but noisy images). You can doodle/notate over pics, great for making quick notes/directions. Because it relies on microSD for storage, you don't really need to use it with any specific software.
    Twom, some parts of the UI can frustrate some people. Font sizes are not adjustable, and there are many areas where the font is thin and small. The built in email client is text only, and it displays some html code rather than stripping them clean. But it does work over both 3g or wifi. The e-mail client's UI is simple, nice to use. You can do full webmail through the browser. You can type notes/comments on pics taken, no sketch pad. 3.4" capacitive touchscreen. That means you can't use fingernail or pointers. There is a Zune player with tegra1 hardware, which means audio and HD video playback. 8GB overall storage with about 6+ GB usable for storage. And you have to use the Zune desktop software to get data on/off the phone. 8MP camera with auto focus, image stabilization, and led flash. But no extras like b&w/sepia modes, etc, etc. The browser is good for mobile sites and small websites, but large websites takes a while to load. Overall it works well enough for basic html & css over wi-fi. Also keep in mind it's unlikely to get an update.
    I can't comment on texting as i don't have a text plan. The Twom keyboard is very tactile, you can hear it click, not mushy. If you really need a good browser on your phone, then you will need a smartphone. Between these two though, the Twom have the advantage in media, the u370 have the advantage as the easier to use phone. And it depends on how much you like/dislike the UI of either phone. The u370 have the more 'normal' UI. Whereas the Twom is more experimental looking, but cuts down the fluff.
    With either phone, make sure you disable 3g data.
    *Actually both keyboards are very good. The difference is the Twom have clicky plastic keys, and u370 have the noiseless rubbery keys. Both keyboards are top of their class. Each key is firm and it's not easy to accidentally click an adjacent key. Depends on which you prefer.

  • What is the difference between a VGA adapter and an AV adapter? Which would be better for my iPad 2 if I just wanted it for games and browsing the Internet?

    If I just wanted to play games and surf the web, would a VGA adapter or an AV adapter be better? For my iPad 2? I asked my family for a VGA adapter for Christmas and I'm not too sure if it's the one I want. Also, what is the difference?

  • Using an SQL statement... which would have better performance ???

    Hi i have to update a table for like 1000, 2000 items..normally this takes around....50-55 minutes...the way we are doing is like using a For loop and traversing for each item which has to be updated...
    eg :- for (i=0; i<n;i++)
    (update item_table set XXXXXXXXXXX where item_id=item)
    i want to know would it be more efficient to just run one single update command... like ...
    update item_table set XXXXXXXXXX where item_id in (item1,item2,................)
    since the changes done are the same for all the items.
    Thanks

    It would be efficient because it will save the trips to the database that are currently happening in the loop. The downside is that you may not be able to add as many elements to the IN clause because databases have some limit to the set of values you could specify in the IN clause.
    I would recommend using batches of items in manageable sizes (like 200 or so) and use the batch update facility provided in JDBC.

  • HT1178 I just bought an Airport Time Capsule. I already have a AirportExtreme for my wireless network for my home. Which would be better; connect the time capsule up to the extreme or use it as the primary base station?

    Is it better to connect my Time Capsule up to my existing wireless network or use the Airport Time Capsule as the base unit and start over again by creating a new network?

    There is no end of answers to this..
    But if you want AC wireless.. assuming you bought a new TC.. and the Extreme is the older N model.. then simply make sure the TC is as close as possible to where wireless AC client will be used.. and connect it back to the main router whichever that is, by ethernet.
    If both are AC then it will make no difference.
    As long as you can connect them both by ethernet and not use wireless extend.. it won't make much difference.
    The worst case is where you use wireless extend and expect high speed but totally lose it because of your bridge link.. if that is the case you wasted your money and you can return the TC and buy a hard disk and plug it into the AE.

  • Which USB n card would be better to use?

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if anyone has used either of these products and if so, which would be the better one to get. I have an older Mac Mini, and I want to connect it to wireless N and my Airport Extreme base station, but I need to know which would be the better of the 2 to select. Any help would be greatly appreciated even if you've not bought them, which would be better to get?

    Sorry, I don't have either product, but I would ask each vendor at least two questions: 1) Does the adapter support both the 2.4 & 5 GHz radio bands for 802.11n?, and 2) Their return policy if not satisfied.

  • Which Imac would be better for gaming?

    So i've got a choice between these two models -
    £1329.60
    3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    8gb Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1GB GDDR5
    Apple care
    27 inch model
    3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB (two 4GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M with 1GB video memory
    Apple care
    £1407.60
    Basically, the decision is down to, do I want a slightly better graphics card and bigger screen, or a smaller screen and better processer?
    I just want to gauge opinions, i'll be using it as my day to day computer as well, some video editing, but nothing too strenuous. How big is the difference in graphic and processing powers.
    Thanks for your help

    With all due respect the question was "which iMac would be better for gaming?".  Key word here is 'better', not 'perfect', not 'ideal'; just 'better'. Unqualified answers and/or sweeping statements do very little to contribute to a discussion, let alone answer the question under consideration.

    Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
    Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
    You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
    Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
    Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
    If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
    You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
    Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
    good luck

  • I am going to university this fall for engineering and I was wondering which macbook pro (13 or 15 inch) would be better.

    I am going to university this fall for engineering and I was wondering which macbook pro (13 or 15 inch) would be better. Is the larger screen worth the extra weight ? I will be doing some computer programming and I feel like reading code on a smaller screen could be a bit of a pain. Also, what is the best option in terms of backup? I don't anticipate having a lot of video but I will have some pictures, music files as well as regular documents and spreadsheets. I'd also like to get an idea of how good the battery life is. Thanks in advance:)

    The 13" will do the trick for what you describe as your needs, Be sure to consider how you will backup your data -- need an external drive?
    Also be sure to check with your college or division of study to see what they recommend. If they are hostile to Macs, you may be on your own for finding support. But in most major cities, that will not be too hard.

    Probably the full iPad, because it has a better graphics card. The larger screen helps too.

    I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
    But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.

  • Which would be a better purchase, Zen Touch or Zen Mic

    Okay for christmas this year I am asking for an mp3 player. Ive done my research and decided between the Zen Touch or Zen Micro so that I may take advantage of Napsters music downloading service. Now my delima is which would be a better purchase. Ive read reviews on amazon, epinions, and cnet. As far as the Micro goes its a love/hate type of thing while i've read only good reviews of the Touch. Now the Touch doesnt seem as popular and for what reason I dont know. Also i've noticed the Micro has a great number of more accessories than the Zen Touch. Now taking into consideration accessories and durability which would you say is the better LONG term purchase?
    -Thanks

    If you are planning on using subscriptoin music, I would go with the Touch, as it is a 20GB player and you have unlimited music to download (more space=more music )
    Don't get it wrong, the Micro is awesome, I would have got it if I didn't have so much music.
    And my guess as to why the Touch is not as popular as the Micro is that people don't like the way it looks and it's size (which is understandable, because of it's 24hour battery).
    The Touch is also a great value, because it comes with an AC power cable (the Micro used to come with this when it first came out, but now it is sold separatley), and a carrying pouch (I replaced mine with a better because you can't aceess the MP3 player while it is in the pouch, making it a bit inconvenient). On top of it all, the 20GB version sells for around $200. And with the new firmware, the "over-sensiti've" touchpad that many reviews claim is now taken care of, and it is as easy to use as the Zen Micro's touchpad .
    All in all, it is down to what you want:
    a 5GB MP3 player that looks cool and comes in 0 different colors
    or a 20GB player that comes with a few extra acessories. Both are around the same price (the Micro may be $20 cheaper, if it is on sale).

  • Hello, i am interested in buying a 2010 Closeout imac 21.5 One model Is Z0JM5LL/a which has a intel i5 processor and the other is MC509LL/A which has a Intel i3 processor i figured the i5 would be better but specs say the i5 only has one processor

    Hi i am interesed in buying out a closeout model of a Imac 21.5 imac The 2 models are Z0JM5LL/A which has a Intel i5 processor and the other is MC509LL/A which has a Intel i3 processor I figured the i5 would be better has better specs but it says the i3 has a dual core Meaning 2 processors and the i5 only has a single Processor meaning i would think then teh i3 is better or is it false specs about the i5 do they both have dual Core Or which one is better Remember these are 2010 Models Not the New Quadcore Which Processor i am looking at is better????

    Both the I3 and I5 are dual core processors.  The I3 should be the 3.2Ghz model, which has an upgraded video circuit over the base model, which is good. The 21.5" I5 would have the same video circuit. It also has turbo boost, that the I3 doesn't have, which can boost it's speed from 3.6Ghz to 3.86Ghz when needed.
    If you need to compare the 2010 and 2011 models (or even 2010 only comparisons), here's some benchmarking: http://www.barefeats.com/imac11b.html , http://www.macworld.com/article/159631/2011/05/201127inimac31ghz.html , http://www.macworld.com/article/159765/2011/05/imac2011.html

  • Which solution for better perfomance?

    I'm writing java application based on XML. This application have to store very large XML file into DB (XML file is about 1000MB large). My solution is to divide it into smaller (100MB) parts (because of memory resources) and store it in DB. I have one XMLType table based on object-relational storage (so at the end there will be 10 rows each of 100MB size).
    XML file looks like:
    <students>
    <student id="1">
    ...// 5 nested elements or collections of elements
    </student>
    <student id="2">
    </student>
    <student id="3">
    </student>
    </students>
    </students>
    Now I need to get java object Student which correponds to <student>element. My solution is to select whole <student> element and use JAXB to convert it to Java object. While solving a problem with selecting <student> element (just in case you know a solution for my another problem: How to select specific element from a XML document using JDBC? another question raised in my mind.
    Which solution has better performance when I don't need to select relational data but I'm interested in xml fragment?
    1) Use object-relational storage
    2) Use CLOB storage
    As I figured out object-relational storage is better for selecting data like student name. But is it also better when I need whole xml fragment?
    Isn't my solution completely wrong? I'm quite a newbie in XML DB so it's possible that I missed better solution.
    Thanks for any advice

    I don't know which version you have regarding 11g, but probably in this case I would go for a table with a XMLType Binary XML column. To make xpath and other statements perform use Structured or Unstructured XMLIndexes to support your queries. The following has worked for far smaller XML documents but the millions we used were good for a total of >> 1 TB total storage size...
