Which would you buy? Panasonic vs Canon

I am looking at 2 new camcorders
1.  Canon FS 200 - flash drive $329
      37x optical
or
2.  Panasonic SDR H80K - hard Drive $399
     70x optical
THANKS!
I am gadget challenged - This would be to record childrens' activities

With that limited amount of usage information, I would suggest the Canon in most cases.  The panasonic would be great if your kids are into sports (larger zoom).  Only thing about that large of a zoom capability is that you will need a tripod in order to effectively take advantage of the maximum zoom.  If it is going to be used in a handheld manner, the video will get very jumpy and jittery without a tripod.  We don't want to make our viewers seasick do we? lol
If you are planning on using the zoom feature on a regular basis, check and see if either camera has optical image stabilization.  That feature will help keep the image steady and avoid jitter.  Make sure it's optical stabilization though since the digital stabilization is nopt nearly as good at steadying images.  Keep in mind that some brands don't tell you outright whether it is optical or digital on their overviews (like Sony with Steady Shot (digital) vs. Super Steady Shot (optical)).
When all else fails, go in to a Best Buy store and speak with someone in a Blue Shirt.  If they are doing their job correctly, they should ask you a good amount of questions about how you are going to use it.  Once they know what you want to do with the camera they should be able to make a good recommendation for you and be able to explain why they are recommending that particular item.
Good luck.

  • LG G2 vs Blackberry Z30 - which would you buy?

I'm 50/50 split on chosing one of these two very different phones. Which would you choose?
I was going to wait on the Lumia 929 and consider it, but MS can take that up with VZW.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm an Android guy so the G2 would be my pick.
More apps, bigger screen, better camera, cheaper, better processor......the list goes on and on.
I would sa the only reason people would choose the Z30 over the G2 is if they are partial to Blackberry phones.......which I would say you aren't because you wouldn't have had to choose
    Good Luck with your purchase

  • Which would you buy? MBP or iMac. I need guidance 2.

Ok, I'm heading for a replacement. I had a MBP CoreDuo 2.0/1 GB/80 GB 5400 rpm HD/X1600 128 mb/matte. It had some problems and Apple are offering me a replacement.
I need a computer for (mobile) audio recording/mixing, graphic (Photoshop & Illustrator)and web site design (Flash), browsing, media center. This is a everyday tool that I'll use pretty intensively and maybe I could wait next year to have a notebook when I'll return to school.
So I have the choice between the Core 2 Duo 15 inch Macbook Pro with matte screen or the Core 2 Duo iMac (20 or 24 inch). The only reason why I hesitate taking a new Macbook Pro are the issues concerning the grainyness/uneven illumination of the screen and the Airport issues.
Would you consider it safe to take the Core 2 Duo 15 inch Macbook Pro or you would recommend me the iMac? I know the iMac doesn't have the same degree of portability as the MBP...
Because I had my share of visits at an Apple Service Provider...
    Thank you for the advices!

    yv,
Have you actually seen this "graininess" issue for yourself? I only ask because I was very hesitant about buying a MBP for that reason. I went into the Apple Store, compared screens between MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMac. The MacBook screen was clearly inferior. The MacBook Pro (15") and the iMac screen looked comparable in quality. I saw no graininess.
I went to CompUSA the following week. I brought my wife with me. She's a graphic designer, works on very good quality monitors all day--in fact she makes the purchasing decisions for the graphics department of a Fortune 500 company. We compared the same three sets of monitors. She came to the same conclusion as me: the MacBook monitor is inferior. The MacBook Pro and iMac monitors are not noticeably different in quality. In fact, she even thought the MacBook Pro was every bit as good as the Apple Cinema Display they had. I bought a MacBook Pro right there.
I've been using it for about 6 weeks now. Its the best laptop screen I've ever used-better than my daughter's PowerBook G4 (last generation), better than my wife's high-end PC laptop (I think its a Toshiba), better than my son's PowerBook G4 (second to last generation). I also compare it to my higher end 22" external monitor (more expensive Gateway version). Sure, the external is better, but it isn't designed for a laptop.
So, maybe I got lucky, and all the MacBook Pros at the Apple Store, and the ones at CompUSA and the one I purchased all happened to be the few that don't have this problem (mine was manufactured during the last week of November or the first week of December). Or, this is a relatively rare problem with one of the earlier batches. Or it is exaggerated to begin with. Take a look for yourself.

  • Which would you buy?

    Hello friends,
I'm thinking of buying my first Mac Pro, after a long time on mobility products. Since 2000, I only bought laptops from Apple. I know the limitation of laptop and I can't stand it no more, so this time, I decide to get me a real desktop. Seeing the new MP, I really like to get me one. But my budget is very limited, and I also want to save and get me a new 17" MBP unibody. So for now, my budget is under 3K. So for sure I can't get the 8 Core 2.66, even with a student discount.
    So now my options are
    get the 4 cores 2.93 Ghz ($2789) or the 8 cores 2.26 Ghz ($2999)
so which one should I get?
In term of speed, future expands, and possible to make my quad core to 8 core. I'm a hardcore 3D modeler, and I do a lot of rendering and realtime texturing. And Photoshop, web design and final cut pro. I will also use it as my render server. Most of this is for school work, I'm still in college.
Will the Xserve be another choice to consider or is it not even close?
Still wanting to get the new 17" macbook pro so I won't pay more than 3K for this.
    thanks.

Like so many users here I'm stuck trying to decide which model I should go for. My current system must be almost 9 years old now (G4 Quicksilver) - Its slower than a bug crawling through syrup. I've waited till now, partly because my aging Quicksilver was at the time a great machine / workhorse (never had a single major problem). However with the swelling OS and Adobe's CS suit of programs commanding more and more power I'm now forced to make a significant new upgrade.
My background is this: Self employed graphic designer / photographer. Heavily using Photoshop, Aperture, Illustrator and Indesign. Occasionally using Final Cut and Logic.
*Without the aid of some respected reviews I'm finding the prospect of choosing between the base 4-core and base 8-core a tough decision (financially and technically)*
I was in the Apple Store a few days ago and they have discontinued MP's at a greatly discounted amount, however the new Nehalem processor, DDR3 memory and upgrading to the Radeon graphics card seems to make the newer machines perhaps better on paper. Plus by the time I've expanded an 2008 MP to what I need, its price will be in the realms of the new machines.
The biggest sticking point is the 8mb memory ceiling found in the 4-core machine. I really can't imagine the speed difference between the 4-core 2.66ghz and the 2.93ghz being that great (remember any new machine for me is going to feel like working on a space rocket compared to my current machine).
*I wonder just how much quicker the base 8-core machine will be over the base 4-core machine.*
    *Base 8-core Plus points:*
    +• Larger memory configuration+
+• More future proof with more software utilising 8-cores as time goes on?+
+• Comes with 6gb standard (thats probably enough for me right now?)+
+• Cheaper to upgrade the memory to 16gb if need be...?+
    hmmmm...
Guess I'll just have to ponder this question some more...

You can't run iMovie 11 on a PPC G5 running the old OS 10.3 Panther - which is what you say you have.

  • If what would you buy

if you had the choice which would you prefer a Mac or IBM to use with Elements and if so what type

I would buy a computer with the operating system I preferred. I happen to like OS X; many people here use Windows. PSE is fine on either one.
While the mac version doesn't have organizer, you'd have iphoto, which serves pretty much the same purpose, so that's also a wash.
Seriously, if you like windows, get a windows computer; if you like macs, get a mac. It's all good.

  • Would you buy the iPhone 5 again?

I've been an Android guy since the Motorola Droid 1 days and most recently have used the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  In short, I've been happy with this phone other than the fact it doesn't do its most important feature well such as HOLDING A SIGNAL.  Seriously, it is a freaking joke.  It was a problem when I bought this phone and I kept thinking that VZW would roll out an update to fix it.  Nope.  A dozen tech calls might fix it. Nope.  Even VZW seems to have given up on the phone.  Now when I call to complain, they just remind me I have an upgrade coming.  Most people fault VZW, I fault Google for allowing their flagship Nexus device to launch with such poor construction.
So onto my question.  My wife has the iPhone 4S, which for the most part has been great.  At a minimum it holds a steady 3G signal where I can't get anything.  At this time, I still want 4G and I like the bigger size of the iPhone 5, not to mention the global capabilities.
Would you buy the IPhone 5 again? A quick Google search shows there was some reception issues with it as well on VZW, but many of those were older. Has it been resolved?  I can't drop a ton of money and deal with this stupidity again.  Otherwise I might hold on for the Moto X.  I'm through with Samsung, forever.

WOW, I just had my Verizon insurout ance replacement iphone 4s stolen in Cambridge, MA and located it with the App Find my Phone, and need a phone desperately as it is my work phone.  The replacement 4S stopped holding a charge for more than an hour and many other problems, like when you go to Contacts, and try to choose a person to call or text, the names start automatically scrolling and it was like diving in a pool of water that was 12' wide from a skyscraper....it took like 15 attempts to finally get your finger on the right contact and was absolutely frustrating.  So I was headed out to suck up the retail price for a new iphone 5 because my contract isn't up yet w/ Verizon and I also won't be using them again.
So, I have 2 questions as I am at my wit's end and taking vacation day to deal with this crap today as I fly 60 % of the time.  An as an FYI, Boston and Cambridge campus is a hot spot for stolen Smartphones, so you might wanna tape that baby to your chest and use the speaker phone:-)
    1.  Is the iphone 5 a piece of crap too and does anyone have Samsung Galaxy or any other models they don't have issues with?
    2.  I am NOT tech savvy and was going to try to buy a used one on Craigslist or Ebay but all the recommendations are that you ask all these questions and go pick it up in person???  I am a female and that is not going to happen.....HELPPP  Any other options before I jump off that skyscraper into that pool???
Sorry for long post, but dealing with this mess is soooo frustrating and I feel like I am hanging by a noose by Verizon.

  • What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

What camera raw default settings would you use for the Canon 5D Mark 3. I have PS CS6.  Thank you.

Really, this is a question you should be asking yourself...
What do you shoot? Makes a difference...
Typical ISO that you shoot? Makes a difference...
Shooting for clients or yourself? Makes a difference...
Look, there is no magic bullet...the ACR/LR "Default" should only be changed for those adjustments you make 70-90% of the time and sould not be confused with image by image adjustments...
So, as asked, your question can not really be answered other than to say, use a default that suits you.

  • Which would you keep, which would you sell, and why?

This kind of question might not be totally appropriate for this forum, but here goes anyhow. If it's really off-topic, I suppose the mods can delete it, but I am really having a hard time with this decision.
I am thinking of selling off a couple of laptops for a newer (refurbished) 15-inch AlBook. I am selling an iBook for sure. Also, one of the following will go to my wife, and one will get sold to help raise cash for the newer AlBook:
    1. TiBook, 15", 1GHz, 1GB RAM, 100GB hard drive, Superdrive, Airport
    2. AlBook 12", 867MHz, 1.12GB RAM, 60GB hard drive, Combo drive, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth
Which one would you sell, which one would you keep, and why? I have my own ideas, but I am really on the fence as to a final decision. I need some other opinions from people who know TiBooks better than I do.
Thanks. By the way, I'm really not this indecisive in real life. Now for my next question: Given the choice between pancakes and sausage or eggs and bacon for breakfast, which would you choose and why?

IMHO no Powerbook as been as fine as a Titanium and as you have the 1GHz SD Ti I would defintely keep that. For the following reasons:
Far more comfortable screen to use. (1280x854 versus XGA)
DVI connection (instant connection to projectors/lcd monitors no need for adaptors like the Al 12)
    PCMCIA slot
    64Mb versus 32Mb Graphics Memory
Style - it's slimer(2.5cm Ti versus 3cm Al) and I prefer the look.
All ports convieniently on the back and under a cover to keep dust etc out.
Shed load of replacement parts available on eBay (not had to use this yet though)
and specfically because of what you list:
    100Gb HDD versus 60Gb
    Superdrive versus Combo
    Processor Speed
You can soon add BT, 802.11g, card reader or USB 2 (or any future technology) to a Ti via the PCMCIA but even though the Al has AE and BT you can't add FW800 or whatever else crops up to the Al 12.
The negatives of the Ti would be - battery is most likely to critically fail shortly and the slower memory speed on the Ti.
I love my Ti, even though it's three years old now (still 2.5hrs charge!) new Al books are not at all tempting - tell me what else I could achieve witha new Al over the Ti?
    regards
    mrtotes
P.S. Pancakes for breakfast - absolutely bonkers! I tried it once on my Honeymoon to Canada - it won't catch on. Eggs and bacon is the way ahead, but a Full English would be preferable...

  • What 3g model would you buy?

I will be one of the many standing in line Mar 11 for the new ipad2 (2 of them actually) my question is to go with att or verizon 3g model? I live in the seattle area and we have good att 3g coverage here... but I do enjoy going camping in and around the Mountains, lakes, rivers, ocean, sound. and would enjoy doing some facebooking while in the great outdoors.. (pathetic I know ) is Verizon's data coverage better? worse? slower than att? I know they have more coverage but am worried about speed. in those everyday places i guess... what would you buy?

I'd assume Verizon's iPad 3g coverage will be much like their iphone coverage (no talking while web surfing). I'd have to wonder what this will do with multitasking on the verizon version of the iPad 2. No specific examples to give........just a bit to consider.

  • Would you buy TC again?

With the recent bump to 1TB and the need for a new wireless router I'm considering a TC but boy, the experiences seem to be all over the place. I know this is a forum for people trying to iron out problems but if you currently own a TC, would you buy one again? Would you recommend to other mac users?
I may not go the wireless Time Machine route given some of the problems I've heard and my experience with Time Machine on my work iMac. May use SuperDuper instead or equivalent.

Without a doubt I'd buy one again. I have one and my mother bought one. Not a problem between us (over a year +). As you correctly said this is a place where people come to help solve problems so you will see a higher rate of no responses.
I have a dual band Time Capsule and the network is much stronger than my old Linsys router. No backup problems but I did the first one via Ethernet.
When I bought a new iMac I was able to use the Time Machine backup to transfer all my files and preference from my old mac mini. Took about 40 minutes. How can you beat that?

  • Some kinds of enhancement... Which would you choose?

    Hi all.
There are some kinds of enhancement in SAP.
(EXIT, BADI, OPEN-FI, Enhancement spot  ...etc)
If there are some kinds of enhancement match your purpose, which do you choose?
For example, I'm trying to enhance in MM01.
    EXIT: MGA00001
    BADI: BADI_MATERIAL_REF
Both of enhancement can be function.
I wonder which is the best...
    Which would you choose?
    and What is the reason?
    thanks.

it depends on your requirement.i personally believe in BADI as it include less coding with promising results
there is no such answer which is better it depends on your way of coding or in which you feel comfortable.
For difference beteen BADi/Exit you may search in SCN i'm sure you will get many many examples.i found one for you.

  • Would you buy a 64gb iPad 3rd Gen or an iPad Mini 16 gb if you could purchase either for $320?  Thank you

Would you buy a 64gb iPad 3rd Gen or an iPad Mini 16 gb if you could purchase either for $320?  Thank you

I know your question has been answered by Demo and agree. And I agree that I would stay away from the ipad 3 that was discontinued after only months on the market.
That said, I'm not sure where you were getting an ipad 3 for that cost - a friend, a store, an official reseller? I would be very careful of that.
If you decide to buy a used ipad or even a new 16 gb mini, I strongly suggest you only buy it through Apple's online only certified refurbished store. They come and go as they are refurbished by Apple, so if you see what you want, buy it. An ipad mini 32 gb is now $339 in the refurb store. That's only $20.00 more than you're willing to pay.
Personally, I'd go for the regular sized ipad with more space, but I would pay more if necessary and only buy it at the Apple online refurb store. If you buy an outside ipad, you usually only get the rest of the warranty if any time is still on it. Some resellers do not give any warranty. You might not know if it's been dropped and is working now but might quit soon, etc. You could end up with a demo version from a store, the battery could be on its way out, etc. There have been such stories on here.
Each refurbished ipad and mini comes with a brand new front and back cover, a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty , including 90 days of phone support. It will come in the white box with the charger just as a new one does, with free and fast shipping.
We have had two 64 gb refurbed ipad 2's from the Apple store for almost a year and a half. They have been great!
(As others have and almost always suggest, get as much space as you can because you cannot increase that. Many end up wanting to do more than they planned as they learn about new apps and all they can do with their ipad. Also, updating apps also will take up more space.)
And you don't get 16gb or 32 gb, etc. Some space is used to run the ios and apps that come with the ipad that are not removable.
Oh. I needed to add that through the refurb store, you'll get it with ios 6 still installed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Would you buy a MacBook Air today?

So all these darn rumors about early 2012 or a macbook air refresh, would you buy today or wait? I was going to buy one this week, but now i'm hearing early 2012 new air's...that could mean january, or that could mean april. Just need some friendly advice!

    Ok, just an update
Ordered on Dec. 6th, air arrived dec. 7th! I was not home but UPS left it on my doorstep. Kind of concerning since anyone could have just snatched it. Anyways, got home, set it up, screen is amazing! Speed is quick, cant be happier. Glad I went with the 13", perfect size for travel, not too big, not too small. Thanks for all the posts in helping me make my decision.

  • What would you buy if you would you have to return...

2 days ago my N97 stopped working, I had to turned off for some reason, and  when I turned it on the screen was frozen. (Nokia logo)
I was so afraid of sending my phone out for repair, with the possibility of getting a new N97 and lose all my apps from the OVI store + all the information that I have on my phone.    lucky me, after attemping 10 more times, my phone worked.
It came through my mind the possibility of getting a new phone, but wich one?, Iphone, HTC, Omnia, Android phone? Lets face it,  there is no phone in the market with all the capabilities than the N97 has. No phone gets even closer:
    - Memory capacity
    - FM transmiter
    - Widgets
    - FM Radio
    - Great resolution when you watch movies
    - 5MP camera
    - REAL MULTITASK phone ( over 8 apps open and no issues at all )
    - etc
This morning I updated my phone to the new firmware (2.0XXX), IMHO I would say the firmware is not a mayor improvement, still some bugs to be fixed but, it runs a bit faster. C memory still the same and some other stuff that we all know the phone still has. So, What would you buy, if you have to return your N97?
For me, maybe I will switch to Android OS when my N97 gets obsolete.

Anything new with WINmo 6.5 or some of the new Android phones coming out:
    - Memory capacity - N97 has NO MEMORY, the MINI has double the RAM.  Think about that!
    - FM transmiter - Works at a range of 2 feet - a cable would be better anyway into the car stereo
    - Widgets - are you kidding me?????
    - FM Radio - yeah sure that is good, but whatever
    - Great resolution when you watch movies - no h264 on the n97 mate, sure most other phones do this fine, my HP Ipaq from 2001 plays more movies than the n97 (it has skype as well!!)
    - 5MP camera - yeah until it is scratched
-REAL MULTITASK phone - WINmo can do it, Android can do it, even the pre can do it....
I feel hooped for getting the N97, everything is there, but nothing works as it should.  Thankfully since this AM i dont have any out of memory errors, but I am sure they will return just when I don't need them to.
At this point anything is better - to be honest, I've had my eyes on the n900 - but unless Nokia fixes my n97, i wont throw them another dime so long as I live, nor will I allow the 30 people i have sent Nokias way to get another one.
    Fix.  My.  Phone.
I love my purple screen, 1/2 day battery, sketchy touch screen and $800 price tag - I call it my Lumia 900
