Which XP version Should I Order For gaming through Boot Camp??

I went on newegg.com searching for Windows XP, but I saw that there were things like "64bit OEM version" and "SP2B Home edition" and "Professional SP3"???
All i would like to know is:
1.) What does this tech lingo refer to?
2.) Which is the best Windows XP version for Gaming?
Thanks alot for reading and please HELP!

1. 64bit OEM version. Most consumer operating systems are 32 bit. 64 bit systems have some theoretical advantages, e.g. their ability to address more physical and virtual memory. But to experience these advantages the program or game must be written for a 64 bit system. Not that many are. And there is an ongoing problem with finding drivers for 64 bit OS's, so all your peripherals may not work. Pro comes either in a 32 or 64 bit version.
OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. An OEM version is meant to be sold only to system builders who then assume responsibility for support. Microsoft will not support an OEM version. Most people though just see it as a cheap way to get the OS, as it is much cheaper than the retail version. It comes unboxed, just a disc.
When you try to activate it you may have to lie to Microsoft and say you are a system builder, but it's a lie Microsoft has heard many times.
2.SP2 Home Edition of XP. Home Edition is the version of XP most users have on their system. SP2 refers to Service Pack 2, a collection of updates to XP (including security updates). It rolls many updates into one big installation. Home only comes in a 32 bit version.
3.XP Professional SP3. XP, both Home and Pro now have a third service pack which again rolls up many, many updates. If you bought an SP 2 version of either pro or Home, when you ran Update after your installation it would list SP 3. So an SP 3 version of either Home or Pro is more up-to-date. However. installing SP 3 without updating to Boot Camp 2.1 usually results in an error message which prevents installation, and Boot Camp 2.1 can't be installed until after you have installed windows as it is installed from within windows. I believe it's best to install SP2, but before doing so, download the SP3 stand-alone installer from Microsoft's website (as well as the Boot Camp 2.1 installer from Apple).
Then you can immediately install Boot Camp 2.1 and SP3 (which you've cleverly burned to cd/dvd or put on a flash drive) after completing your Windows install. This leaves you with a system that is much better patched before you venture out onto the Internet to get even more Windows updates, and also seems to cause many less installation problems.
As far as Pro vs. Home - Pro has some advantages but does cost more. Pro can access 2 physical processors (not just 2 cores on 1 processor), but that would only make a difference if you were using a Mac Pro, not an IMac or MacBook Pro.
Pro was originally aimed at business (and power) users. Since it's regarded as a business OS, Microsoft will continue to provide (security) updates for it far longer than they will Home (it's standard policy for Microsoft to do this for business versions of their OS for obvious reasons), so that's a plus.
4.As far as gaming goes, the 32 bit version of Home is what almost every gamer I know uses. If you need a driver for XP and it exists it exists for 32bit Home.
However, I do know people who swear by the 64 bit version and/or Pro, and there are some games with 64 bit versions. But when most people say "XP" what they mean is 32 bit Home.

which version of adobe should be downloaded for a kindle fire 7 hd with linux?

To the best of my knowledge you are restricted to what ever applications from the Kindle store. There are few Adobe products other than Reader that have been approved by Amazon for their store. In fact, they offer more apps on their andriod store for other manufacturers than they do on their own Kindle store.

  • Can I run a Free version of Windows (Vista, XP, 7) through Boot Camp

I want to take some online training for Visio and MS Project but need the programs on my computer for the classes. Instead of buying all of them, I would like to download free trail versions of Viso and Project and run them through a free trial version of Windows XP, Visa, or 7 via Boot Camp.
Any ideas whether it will work, recommendations, pitfalls?
    Thanks
    Scott

Will it be pretty straight forward to uninstall the MS software after is expires?
MS uninstall is pretty straightforward. Just use the Programs Control Panel. But you wouldn't be able to reinstall the trials without completely reloading Windows. (Windows remembers the date the trial originally started.) Virtualization options like Parallels and Fusion are good tools (I use Fusion daily) but the additional learning curve for virtualization may or may not be something you want to deal with right now since you're trying to learn something else. But virtualization has advantages if you do much non-video work in Windows, so is something to keep in mind in the future. (e.g.: no need to reboot to use Windows or OSX.) Parallels and Fusion have trial versions so you can test the waters when you're ready.
Obviously I am a novice to Boot Camp and my biggest priority is to not mess up the Mac side when I am doing this.
Even if you use Boot Camp, just run Boot Camp Assistant after you're done to remove the Boot Camp partition. You will then have your Mac back to it's pre-Windows configuration.

with an iphone 3G the most up to date ios is 4.2.1 so you have a problem because whatsapp requires a higher version.  If you saved an earlier version of whatsapp you could install that otherwise you cannot use the app.  You will need to get a more up to date phone

  • Which tomcat version  to be used for  jdk6?

    Hi
Which jdk version is best compatible for Tomcat5.0? Can I use jdk6 ? Also tell me which is the most suitable tomcat version to be used for jdk6. Also tell me what are all the Tomcat settings (environmental variables etc.) to be made before running the web applications?
    Thanks in advance.

    I mean can i use tomcat5.0 with jdk6.Yes.
The JVM you are using is pretty much irrelevant as long as it is above the minimum. For Tomcat5, thats JDK1.4 I think.
The problem is not with JDK6, it will be with your understanding of Tomcat.
but the programs i put in the web-apps folder with root directory(say firstapp) are not runningThe ROOT directory is the "default" web app. Not the place where you should deploy new web applications.
All your web applications (with a WEB-INF directory in them) should be off the folder "webapps"
    [Tomcat 5 docs|http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/appdev/deployment.html]
Having said that, IMO you should be using at least Tomcat 5.5, and possibly even Tomcat 6 if you want the latest version.

    hi all,
My odi is 11g. I met the error infor "Could not load JDBC driver class [com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver]" when i tried to connect to a sqlserver2000 database.
    The questions are:
    1. which jdbc driver should be used for sqlserver 2000?
    2. which folder to put it in?
    3. how to set the physical topological "Microsoft Sql Server" to use this jdbc driver?
    failed tries:
i downloaded the driver "SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC Service Pack 2" and put it in the following folders:
    1. .../oracledi/drivers, and set this path to CLASSPATH.
    2. .../oracledi/userlib didn't exist, i created it and put the driver in.
    3. .../oracledi/agent/dirvers, in which a readme file exists and told me to put drivers in this folder.
All these works were not useful. when I start odi.sh and try to connect to sqlserver2000 database, the same error infor came up.

    Hi,
You should check which JVM version is required by that version of the driver, I think the 2.x versions require a 1.6 JVM
What error are you getting? If it is the "com.sunopsis.sql.c: No suitable driver", it indicates it can't find the jar file (sqljdbc.jar) for the driver you specify.
Drivers folder in ODI 11g is under
    C:\oracle\product\11.1.1\Oracle_ODI_1\oracledi\agent\drivers.
if you are using the standolone version
    On windwos :
    C:\Documents and Settings\<userName>\Application Data\odi\oracledi\userlib
    on linux
    $HOME/.odi/oracledi/userlib
    Have a read of :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/core.1111/e16453/install.htm#CHDBIFAJ
    Thanks,

Type exactly whats on here on your settings.
    Procedure:
    1- Turn on your phone
2- Get paperclip take out tray and put your non working sim card in- T-moble and simple mobile sim cards work great for me on this venture.
    3. Goto Settings>General>Cellular>Cellular Network
At this point its very critical that you do this fast, Once you change the sim card to your net 10 the option Cellular Network will only stay on for a few seconds while it's searching for service. You will need to click on cellular once the Net10 sim card is in and click on Cellular network again.
    4. Get your paperclip take out the tray put in the Net 10 sim card
    5. Goto Cellular>Cellular Network while it's searching for service
    6. Type in your settings that I list above
    7. Scroll back to your main setting (Do not press your Home Button)
    8. Once you see your service up and running try out your web and send a picture message it should work.
    9. If it does'nt work you mistype one of the settings, it has to be exact or it wont work.
    10. Do the process all over again
Keep this information and the sim card away for a later date in case you lose your setting I have'nt turned off my phone or let my battery die to find out if I lose my settings. One thing for sure I lost it when I update to the IOS 6.0.1.

  • Which animation software should I go for?

I have FCP 4 and I want to add some backgrounds like a big greek building or walking on the rainbow... I assume I need to make those kind of backgrounds on my own? If so, which animation software should I go for to create those kind of landscape background?? Or there may be some program that already has designed background?? Please let me know. I am learning through on my own.

lol - Throw them in the deep end with the easy stuff first, huh Shane ?
Have a google for video backs from Artbeats, Jump Backs, Corbis and so on - you may find some stock stuff there to use. It's not cheap.
To learn an app like Maya is a whole other thing and others like Cinema 4D, lightwave etc, etc - developing the craft of 3D compositing is something that takes an enormous amount of time and patience. These are apps I have looked at and have never, ever found the time to be able to learn them past the most basic understanding. But if you have the inclination then go for it !
If you have a fast current pc then you might like to look at the stuff from Serious Magic - some precomps there that might fit the bill.

which mac mini should i go for: the one with AMD graphic card or Intel. I meanly going to use this for hometheater and HD movies.

Intel HD 3000 graphics card can easily handle HD movies up to 1080p. But if you are looking at higher resolutions possibly 4k or 8k that are being released this summer in new TV's, I would go with the AMD card. The AMD card would be good for video and picture applications and also games. But if this is strictly to power your 1080p home theater setup then the choice is obviously the Intel HD 3000.

  • Which kernel module should I use for Marvell Yukon 88E8001?

Which kernel module should I use for Marvell Yukon 88E8001?
    a. sky2
    b. skge
    c. sk98lin

    I found this in the kernel''s /driver/net/Kconfig:
    config SKGE
    tristate "New SysKonnect GigaEthernet support"
    depends on PCI
    select CRC32
    ---help---
This driver support the Marvell Yukon or SysKonnect SK-98xx/SK-95xx
and related Gigabit Ethernet adapters. It is a new smaller driver
with better performance and more complete ethtool support.
It does not support the link failover and network management
features that "portable" vendor supplied sk98lin driver does.
This driver supports adapters based on the original Yukon chipset:
Marvell 88E8001, Belkin F5D5005, CNet GigaCard, DLink DGE-530T,
    Linksys EG1032/EG1064, 3Com 3C940/3C940B, SysKonnect SK-9871/9872.
It does not support the newer Yukon2 chipset: a separate driver,
sky2, is provided for Yukon2-based adapters.
To compile this driver as a module, choose M here: the module
will be called skge. This is recommended.
Looks like your module is "skge"

  • Updating from version 2.2 to 3.2 of boot camp

I run on a Mac pro 1.1 and I have had Bootcamp (win xp 32 all update to date installed) Running fine for years I noted that there is a update for the boot camp in a news group but software update on the mac side is not offering it and on the windows side there is no check for update when I select about boot camp from the sys tray (It shows version 2.2 BTW) Now I had no problems on the Mac side when I did the upgrade to snow Leopard but it looks like for some reason when I did that upgrade the Snow Lep did not upgrade the boot camp. My Mac side is all up to date with its updates inc the Safari on that showed up last night
So what is the drill for upgrading Boot Camp from 2.2 to what ever the current version is today?
    Cheers

THANKS IT HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING 4 HOURS
I am running an Apple supplied 4800 series video card to replace the (replaced 3 times ATI x1900) card that came with the 1.1 pro and I have added an apple Cinema LCD 24 to the Cinema 23 I bought with the Mac Pro Si I thought I should update the first time the installer from the snow leopard disc hung about 1/2 way through and the only was out was to power off but I got it to take on the next try. Then I had scrambled vide that the ATI catalyst 9.1(which had been working fine with the 2.2 boot camp) that took me a while to find that I had to reset the displays in the windows control panel. the ATI catalyst still is not working at it thinks the 24" LCD is an 800X600 display only and the 23" is a 0 x 0 so some work to do there yet I append the Catalyst info at the end for comment.
but for now both displays are showing 1920 x 1200 so can work.
I now find that the 3.2 boot camp updater I downloaded requires the 3.1 version first so off to the windows version of software update wish me luck I hope I finish this by quitting time

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.
