Hi! The latest version of sony suite for mac is compatible for osx 10.7.. I have osx 10.5.8, which suite can I use? I tried with kies, bat doesn't work. Suggestions? Thanks!!!!

Which MAC better suited for Aperture ?

I've a budget around 1900-2000 euro (more or less the same price in US dollars for the US market)
The choice would be either one of the new iMac or a MacBookPro ...
In both cases there is some level of choice whether to invest money on:
1) either go for the model with more performing video card
2) either the model with more performing CPU or more RAM or (even) a solid-state disk
Just to make it clear: I'm not a pro, I've been able to use Aperture, till now, on a 2007 MacBook
and I didn't feel so bad as regards managing previews, while I'd like some more horsepower
while editing single images (as soon as the list of adjustments applied gets long, the spinning
beach ball takes home on my screen and I have to wait more and more time !)
... The time needed to zoom in at 100% is annoying to ...
So the question is: are these operations (adjustments, zooming into the image) demanding more
on CPU, or on GPU or ... what else ?
To make an example: would a MacBookPro be performing more fast than an iMac
(I don't care of the smaller screen size, since I'm used to adjust images at 100% zoom) ?
Is it worth going to the MacBookPro with Radeon HD 6750M and 1GB memory, or would
a Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB perform as well, investing the saved money in more
RAM ?
Speaking of photo applications I'd naively suppose it's better to go with a more performing GPU,
but probably most of the GPU power is reserved for film encoding/decoding, not for photo adjustments ...

Whatever you get you want an SSD. That makes iMacs relatively very expensive.
Mobility is a HUGE benefit. iMacs lack mobility.
Top 2011 MBPs with SSD are true desktop replacement boxes. Very strong performance and Thunderbolt removes the achilles heel of past laptops, i/o. Previously I had a Mac Pro plus Macbook Pro workflow and it worked. Now I have a desktop-replacement 2011 MBP and it is way better. If you sell your current laptop and apply the money to a new MBP + external display the MBP comparison price gets very attractive as compared to MBP plus iMac.
Aperture runs well on 8 GB RAM, and in any event 2011 MBPs will take 16 GB RAM. Currently prices are unacceptably high for the required 8 GB DIMMs but the capability is there when prices fall, which they will. As you do your analyses include RAM to 8 GB (post-purchase via third party, much cheaper).
iMacs have glossy-only displays. Many image pros including me find those displays unacceptable. MBPs have matte displays available. New Macbook Airs (MBAs) are glossy too, but seem to present less glare than iMacs do. Each individual needs to visually compare displays before purchasing.
MBAs are the low end for heavy graphics apps like Aperture, not recommended.
I own a 17" 2011 MBP with SSD and 8 GB RAM and Aperture flies on it. Adding SSD to a top 2011 MBP costs only +$100, and the optical drive can inexpensively be replaced with a third-party hard drive of up to 1000 GB (1 TB) when necessary. IMO an SSD is a necessity, not an option.
During desktop use fast external hard drives like Promise Thunderbolt RAID arrays can be added, as can quality non-glossy displays like the $300 Viewsonic VP2365wb or the better NEC 2490. I have the Viewsonic aligned above a 17" MBP and it is a nice combination. Two displays IMO is much preferable for graphics work.
SSD is a huge boost. I put OS, apps, Library and Referenced Masters on the SSD, then relocate the Masters to external drives when editing is complete. Aperture performance is essentially instant.

From an earlier post of mine regarding Aperture hardware:
Aperture is a hardware hog: GPU, CPU, i/o, RAM. Although many Macs will run Aperture, those intending Aperture as an important app will do far better with the strongest available hardware in a given category.
All new Macs have Thunderbolt, so as of 2011 we can scratch i/o as a performance limiter (except see SSD comments below).
Aperture (3.1.2, OS 10.6.8) seems to like about 4 GB of RAM all to itself. On 2011 boxes 8 GB RAM generally works well with multiple concurrent apps. From the standpoint of cost-effective upgrading, adding third party RAM to achieve 8 GB or more is something every Aperture user should do. By the time we reach v4 Aperture I would bet that having more than 8 GB RAM on board will be useful; it may be already with Lion, but I have not been running Lion due to known issues with Adobe apps.
Graphics in 2011 Macs vary widely, so IMO the graphics processing unit (GPU) may be the most important variable for comparing new Aperture boxes in 2011 . The GPU itself is important, but even more importantly evaluating the GPU strength turns out to be a pretty good way to compare 2011 Mac Aperture performance.
Relatively real-world 2011 graphics hardware test results on pro applications have been performed by well-respected testers, see below. I have not yet seen meaningful Aperture-specific tests, however experience since v1 Aperture has been that Aperture performance has been keenly dependent upon the strength of the graphics processor. E.g. a Mac Pro with lame graphics card will underperform on Aperture.
In my experience (2011 17" MBP) the benefits of SSDs are huge. I consider the fastest Aperture workflow to have both Library and Referenced Masters on SSD, then when work on a Project is complete the Referenced Masters are relocated to hard drives. I am doing that now and everything on the box is essentially instant.

White background or Black background suited for long term watching ?

Hello,
I saw many desktop themes with white or light grey background a few years ago, but now, many of them turn into black background with white or blue or cyan or others color of fonts.
As a programmer, I am just curious about the theme: which type is suited for long term use of computer?
I have tried both, and found grey background is easy to read because it is similiar to read on paper, but it looks like a lighting-bulb!; black background with blue font is cool, along with less luminosity, seems free my eyes.
But another problem is the color choosing. With light grey background, it seems any color is right. But with black background, colors should be carefully selected, since some colors are not suit black background at all.
Grayscale is another one. With light grey background, I can easily tune my font in grayscale, like Japanese cartoon paper (I like it very much!), gracifully to distinct keywords. But with black background, it is ugly to use grayscale to distinct keywords.
How about your ideas?

I commented out the external logo calls (since the new logo area fits really nicely with this style), The sections I commented out can probably be removed safely, and I made the textbox post area more readable. Now I love the new webpage layout!
Here's the dark home page style I'm using, also based on Hrwa's archlinx homepage userstyle, but I havent made too many changes there, other than the package search box needed a little tweeking. You have no idea what a journey it has been to try to find the answer to all of this. Here is my stab which is open for input.
Which CS Master Suite Products CS2,3,4,5,5.5,6 work with which Mac OSx 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8?
- When I recently installed 10.6 on a 10.5 Macbook Pro with CS2 Master Suite, I lost all access to CS2. End of story. Unhappy ending at that.
- I have CS4 Master Suite on a MacPro using OS 10.6.8, but my understanding is that if I go to 10.7, I lose all access to CS4. Another bad solution.
- Apparently the same is true of CS5 and 5.5. If one goes to 10.7, you will no longer be able to use those programs.
- The only Master Suite that is 10.8 compatible is CS6. New price $2,599, or $999 upgrade from CS5 or 5.5.
32bit vs 64bit
And to look at 32 bit vs 64 bit briefly. My CS4 Master Suite for Mac has two 64 bit programs, Premiere and After Effects. The Windows version of the same program also included Photoshop as 64bit.
- I assume that as CS Suites went from CS4 to 5 to 5.5 and then to CS6, that more and more programs take advantage of the 64 bit architecture. I don't know the specifics however. Would like to know.
- Also the MacOS has done the same. The newer the operating systems, the more the system takes advantage of mulitple processors, ram, and 64 bit architecture. Again, not sure of the sweet spot here.
And then there was the cloud!
Not sure what to do with that information.
- Great, new products updates all the time
     - downside, what if the updates outgrow my computer? Size and technology?
     - What if the updates outgrow my system software?
     - What if I want to open a cs4 document 5 years from now?
          - do I have to subsribe forever?
          - if I have CS6 on my computer, do some work, and want to open it 10 years from now, I still have the software and a computer.
     - Cost of $30 a month on a special, but $50 a month normally. Sounds cheap month to month, but after two years of $50, I have spent $1,200 on a product that I don't own!
Anyway, all of this comes up because I have multiple versions of Master Suite. I have multiple computers with various versions, and it all goes to crap if I upgrade the system software, or Adobe no longer supports the older versions. This is my contribution to the discussion. Apparently Adobe support had no archived articles to answer any of my questions, they suggested I look online. Great help. As I say, I don't much trust Adobe as my business partner anymore. I think I will work my way towards CS6 and see how long that takes me with Apple system upgrades. I'm not sure what OS 10.9, and beyond may bring as it relates to Adobe products, but I do need to get past my old 32bit applications running on an 8 core machine with 32gig of ram.
Which brings up one final point. I have Imac with 4 gig ram, Macbook pro with 8gig of ram, and MacPro with 32 gig ram. Will 4 gig ram run Cloud CS master suite? Its a worm hole that just keeps getting deeper! I have to find a place on that slope that is cost effective and allows me to hold my position for a few years until I can see how Adobe treats its cloud cutomers, and how well Adobe and Apple play together.
If you have any links to addtional information about various CS programs and which are ported to 64 bit, that would be helpful. I read some things about Rosetta and Java being the culprits in various upgrades to CS programs and the new Mac OS systems.
Also, if you have any work arounds to get CS5.5 to run on OS 10.7 or 10.8, curious to hear about those as well. As I understand it, 10.8 no longer includes the previous Java or Rosetta applications, but I was under the impression that they could be installed after.

Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

I am trying to identify which platform is best suited for creating a digital magazine?

HI, and thanks in advance for any help. I publish a digital magazine on Joomag, but want to move away from that platform and use adobe.
I simply don't know which platform within the suite is best suited for a novice user. I'm not a luddite, but not a wizard either.

How to partition 120 GB hard drive MacBook for OSX+Win (BC+Par.)? Fat/NFTS?

After many happy years with my PowerBook G4 12" (I will miss it definitely, as compact and cute as it is ;-() I'll now switch to a new MacBook 2.16 GHz with 2 GB RAM and a 120 GB hard drive.
I will have to use Windows (not yet sure if XP or Vista), as I need special software not available for the Mac, so my choice will be Parallels, so that I can work in Os X and at the same time use those Windows Apps I need.
However, I also want to be able to boot Windows-only with BootCamp, so I already learned I have to install Windows on its own partition.
So my question is:
How shall I partition the hard drive?
* If I have one big partition for OSX + documents and the rest (maybe 30 or 40 GB) for Windows, I won't be able to access my documents from Windows, right?
* So I would have to keep the data I want to access from within Windows on a PC formatted partition (if I don't want to pay for a software like MacDrive)?
Or can Windows running in Parallels read from a HFS partition?
* Does this mean: if I want to access (read and write) my documents in OSX and Windows, I have to keep them on a Fat32 partition?
-> This could be the partition where Windows is installed (but I'm not sure if I feel comfortable with that solution) of I would need a 3rd partition (Fat32) for data which would cause quite a big "segmentation" of the hard drive.
How did you resolve this problem?
Unfortunately, I don't see that I could really "separate" data I only have to access from Windows and those I only want to access in OS X, so in my opinion for me they all have to be in one place.

Computer aided Machining (CAM) for OSX

I am in the CNC Machining business. I have made a decision to get my first mac. I know I can operate my windows applications in parallels but, I am considering that a patch. The two main program types we use are CAD and CAM. Currently Rhino (a 3d modeling software CAD) is beta testing & is going to offer CAD for OSX users. Unfortunately I cannot find anyone on the CAM side who is following suite. I currently use MasterCAM (TM) from Dassult Systems (TM). Does anyone out there know of a CAM supplier who is going to be OSX compliant?

Assuming this application provide you manufacturing data , as Mudadassar said you need to check if CAM you are trying to connect is OPC complaint so you can integrate efficiently.
Also you may need to check how that software will provide you data is it available through Webservice ,
Tags which you can connect using PCO or direct Historian database to connect with MII.

How do I disable the back and forward gestures in F9 for OSX Lion?

The new gestures in Firefox 9 for OSX Lion that enable you to browse forward and backward with a two-fingered swipe are driving me crazy.
I like the idea, but it's way too sensitive. Every time I'm trying to scroll up or down a page (which also uses two fingers), I accidentally go back because I apparently don't have the skills to swipe up and down the track pad in a perfectly vertical line.
If the feature was adjusted so that the back and forth swiping wasn't so sensitive, this would be a wonderful feature. But as it currently is, it's destroying my browsing experience in Firefox to the point where I'm considering switching browsers.
I haven't found a way to disable just this feature and only in Firefox. Help?

You can set the related gesture prefs to an empty string value on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page. 
*Use the Filter bar at the top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
Filter: gesture 
Double-click the line with the gesture pref that you want to disable and clear its value.

Mac Pro - Separate HD for OSX and Windows?

Hello Mac Pro users - maybe some of you can help...
Are going to buy a Mac Pro soon - which will be used for graphic artwork and Windows games. Today I have a Mac and a PC - for the same purpose - and now I want to build the Mac Pro with a harddisk for OSX - and another harddisk for Windows (XP or Vista). Is it possible to have 2 separate HD's (or more) with each systems using the standard setup by Bootcamp - or do I have to make a partition on the OSX HD and then install Windows there?
I'm asking this pro forum because I can't get a clear answer here in Denmark where I live - a Apple supplier first said it was impossible - then 2 days later, that it was possible, but they will charge me for 2 hours of support - and in another forum some have told me it was easy - but have given me no help how to do it - and again some have told me to use some software called "rEFIt".
So is it possible - and hard to do?
If possible, please tell me in steps how to do...

The only thing you need to be wary of is that the
Boot Camp Assistant will not wrok from a Mac OS X
installation that is on a RAID set. As long as you
boot mac OS X from a single drive then it's really
easy.
I had a setup for awhile of two drives in RAID-0 for my Startup drive, a backup single drive, and a separate 300GB drive just for Windows.
In Windows the "Startup" drive in Control Panel would not show the RAID-0 Startup volume, but I could startup from it by hitting Option when it rebooted.

We have an AD and ODS. Is this possible, if it is, using CIFS?

thanks for your answer. unfortunately this does not solve my problem. my sap landscape is more complex.
there are several sap installations in diverent windows domains and some are on as/400 (and there is another windows domain) all are in different networks and are protected by firewall. furthermore there is a rule (maybe some exceptions are allowed) that there must not be qntc connections over these firewalls.
with a shared folder between a windows workstation in one network and an as/400 in another network it works fine. but as a mentioned first - there is the problem with the sapservice<sid> userid which is to long for as/400 environment. I think there must be a tricky solution (hope so).

Some pages don't render properly after Java update for OSX 10.6.8

I can't seem to get T-mobile.com's website pages to render properly anymore. So far, this is the only website I'm having this issue with, though there could be more I'm not aware of.
I go to www.t-mobile.com and this is what I get:
I think I might be missing a plug-in, but not sure; if so, I don't know which one or how to get it.
This only started happening after the latest Java update for OSX 10.6.8, which I installed on Feb. 24, 2013. All of T-mobile's pages look like this, except if I go to www.my.t-mobile.com's home page. Then I get a normal page, but after I log in, I get more wierd rendering issues again. So here's the page that appeared normal today:

I was so lost but then I decided to try a work around to get my online bill and managed to get it, but I don't want to see the pages like this. So help please?

So, here's more on my point...
I put in the 3 captured screen shots in my original post above. I used Grab to copy the web pages, saved them to my desktop as .tiff files and dropped them in for others to view. This morning, I went to look at my post and instead of seeing the screen shots, I see 3 tiny blue boxes with question marks. When I left click on the boxes, nothing happens. When I right click on them, I get options that are not helpful:

I checked my Safari Preferences and I see I have checked, under Security, Enable plug-ins, Enable Java, Enable JavaScript.I have to have Java enabled to run a few things.
Did something get corrupted in Safari?

How do I get them back?

Are you trying to install a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows 8?
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp.
