If you only want to "run" java applications download the JRE for your system and language. If you want to develop then download the SDK for your system and language.

The normal value of battery capacity for macbook pro
Hi there,
I noticed my battery full charge capacity value is way below the technical specification from Apple.
For macbook pro 15" early 2011 version a 77.5W battery is built-in.
However, so far after 4 cycle, my full charge capacity is 6913mAh.
It seems that I missed something. Though I didn't really notice the initial value when it's brandnew.
Statistically what's the average value of the new battery will be ? around 75W or 7500mAh? Any idea?Best battery info resource is here:

I guess I will have to wait until normal office hours. I have no idea why it bought the window version as I did not realize that is what was selected. I hope I can get it exchanged for the photoshop elements 13 for macbook pro retina display. Anyone know if this is an easy switch and one they will do?
When buying HD versions of shows, only the HD copy will automatically download now (probably due to requests from people who don't need/want the SD version and complained about it being forced on them). The SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes, though. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select TV shows. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the shows and be able to download them.

An Intel iMac AND a MacBook Pro for Logic Pro?
I am torturing myself over this issue lately so any input you guys could offer would be welcome!
This is the situation:
After 3 months of serious debating whether to purchase a 20" Intel iMac or a MacBook Pro for Logic Pro, I went ahead about 3 weeks ago and got the iMac. My reasoning behind this was that even though I found the portability of the MBP very desirable, the iMac simply represented a better value with the big screen and bigger hard drive. Since getting it, I must say I love this machine and I have not had one single problem with it. Logic 7.2 runs like a dream on it. By the way, aside from maintaing my iTunes Library, occasional iLife stuff and web surfing with Safari, this iMac is for music production only.
But here's the problem:
Still, I can't seem to shake the desire for OCCASSIONAL portability. Keep in mind, I am only a "serious" music hobbyist; I create instrumental hip-hop, trip-hop, electronica style of music mainly with software instruments, loops and breakbeats. So needless to say, I don't tour or do a lot of travelling. But the prospect of being able to compose tracks or make beats in Logic anywhere is DESIRABLE to say the least. I could compose while sitting on the couch watching a game or laying in bed - even though I have no idea of how often I'd actually do that, just having the ability to do it is VERY APPEALING to me. Throw in the fact that the iMac currently shares deskspace with a PC that my wife uses - meaning that I often have to stop what I'm doing to let her use the space. With a laptop, I could move and still continue my flow. Lastly, I unfortunately have bad knees and a bad back so after a couple of hours (or 3 or 4) of sitting at the desk working on Logic, I am seriously hurting. Not comfortable at all. At least owning a MacBook would give me the option to move around to some place more comfortable if I desire.
So...
Even though I recently bought a wonderful iMac that works great, I'm seriously considering getting a 1.83 MBP with at least 1GB of RAM and the 100GB/7200 RPM drive to accompany it just for the portability factor. Sure, I could get a used G4 PowerBook or iBook, but all I own is the Universal Binary of Logic Pro; I would have a hard time accepting the decrease in speed I've gotten use to on the Core Duo. Besides, I inherently have a problem buying something (even used) that I know is old and out of date when the latest and greatest is available.
So here is the $25,000 question: Am I nuts for even considering this? Am I placing too much of a premium on the portability as I would use it?
This could easily be justified if I was a working musician on the road, but that ain't me. And you can believe that I'm definately not rich and thus don't have money lying around.
But I have obsessed over this so much lately, I feel that I almost have to get it just to put my mind at ease! I even briefly considered putting the iMac on eBay and just buying a MBP to replace it, but I love the screen real estate I get with the 20" iMac and I question if I'll be truly satisfied with a 15.4" screen FULL TIME. 17" might be better, but I doubt if I can wait until June for them to arrive. In addition, everything would connected via my wireless LAN and .Mac so file sharing should not be an issue.
Help!!!
What would you do? Sell the iMac or just get a MBP as cheap as I can?
Opinions, Please!
20" iMac Core Duo, 2GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, 128MB VRAM Mac OS X (10.4.4)I love the portability my powerbook gives me. You can use a PB in your setup. You can run an external monitor for either PB or MBP. You can node. Universal Binary menas it is an application which has the components written for both PPC and Intel chips-so you don't need to do conversion. Nodes won't require you buy a nother license. so the answer is down to how much the 2 upgrades and 1 crossgrades will set you back vs how much use you'll get out of them. IMO the iMac is inexpensive (I mean that in a good way-worth hooding on to). Maybe just look at a refurb PB unless you really have the extra cash.

hi todd,
cart in front of the horse syndrome - wrote BEFORE reading the article. sorry ;-)
am coming from 10 years of vegas, unhappily so, but at my age 60+, i'm wary of anything new.... -
can i install logic pro without cd ? , i have the key for the logic pro but my dvd driver of my mac doesnt work ?
Buy an external USB2 DVD/CD drive..... (Amazon's Basic model works great)
Or..
Borrow someone else's Mac that has a DVD drive fitted and use that via Remote Disk
Note:
There is no legal means of downloading available for Logic Pro 9.. unless you originally purchased it via the App Store..
Therefore, in your case, you must install from the DVDs you have... -

Hello,
I am searching and searching for transition packs for Premiere Pro CS5, there are lots for 5.5 or 6 but none for 5. At least I could't find them.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
Alexhttps://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.displayTab4.html
Chances are most plug-ins working for the later versions will also work for CS5, but you can check with each company if you're not sure. -
Why can't I download trial for Acrobat Pro on my Mac?
Why can't I download trial for Acrobat Pro on my Mac? I get an error message. I click the download: "Install Adobe Download Assistant", then click on it, see Adobe AIR application instaler, then get "Sorry, and error has occurred. This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance." If I knew who the application author was, I'd contact him! Thanks, Pete
Hey PetaPete,
There are some known issues when downloading Adobe Download Assistant which you can find at:
Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant
So, you might alternatively need to try downloading Acrobat from the link given below:
http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-acrobat-xi-pro-standard-reader-direct-download-links.html
Note:
1) You need to stay on the Adobe trial page for the respective product that you're downloading. You should be signed in.
2) Copy/ Paste trial link for the files that you're downloading from Prodesigntools on to the address bar of Adobe trial page and hit enter.

Port Forwarding for Filemaker Pro on Airport Extreme
I really don't know what I'm doing - I'm trying to get my Instant Web for Filemaker to work - It was set up on my MacBook Pro and then I moved everything to this iMac and now it's not working. I do know that the port for FM Pro is 591. I have it set up in FM Pro sharing and it gives me an IP address that should work. Which, by the way, it does inside my network, but not from outside. So, I need to know how to set up the Port Forwarding on my Apple Extreme to make this work.
I don't use FM, but do port forwards on AE for my private website using DynDNS
Go to Applications >> Utilities >> AirPort Utility >> pick your AE and click Manual Setup button
Go to Advanced >> Port Mapping >> click the PLUS to add a new port fwd
Leave the Service drop down as is
Set public TCP and private TCP fields to 591
Set the private IP to the IP address of your iMac as your AE assigned it - I assume that your AE will have 10.0.1.1 and your iMac will be 10.0.1.X - not sure whether you use DHCP and let AE do the work or manually assign private IPs yourself
Give it a description in the next window. Not sure about advertising via Bonjour - I'd try both.
If you don't know what private IP your iMac has, go to applications >> utilities >> Terminal app and type this command: ifconfig
You'll see something like this. In my case, since I use Ethernet to connect my mac to AE router, the en0 is my active connection and my private IP is 10.0.1.12 as shown below. If you use WiFi, you'r main connection will be en1

How can I know if my new internal hd for macbook pro is compatible?
I have been trying to upgrade my internal HD for macbook pro early 2008 2.4 and have been having a hard time getting it to boot. Problems with both WD and Seagate. I am wondering if the problem is with Mavericks. I got a good back up from Time Machine to load on the hybrid drive. Then when I try to restart it shows the apply symbol with no chime and then a black screen comes over the blue screen with some code (strange problem I have never seen) I can see that all the data is on the drive. I was able to partitian in disk utility. Anything ringing a bell. I have done several switches like this and this is the first time I have had so much trouble. I reinstalled my old drive just to make sure there was not another hardward issue and everything is fine there. In fact I have a new logic board freshly installed by mac.
Your machine has a SATA 2 interface and I'm sure the new drives are SATA 3. They should still step down and work though. It's possible your SATA cable is marginal and the newer drive is trying to demand more out of it than the old one did. A good test would be to put the new drive in an external enclosure and see if it works ok from there. If so, it's probably the cable.

toshiba 1.tb and 7200 RPM ?
Those are same as use by Apple in the non-retina macbook Pro, Ive got piles of them, only a Hitachi is better.
Toshiba HD are a hair noisy even by Toshiba own admission, but no big deal.
I would NEVER buy from OWC merely for the reasons that their prices are miserable.
Here you go, $65
