While editing photos in Aperture, I trying to make an "auto" adjustment to the exposure,
but the "auto" button is grayed out and will not allow any auto function to take place.
Please help!
Thank you,
MikeMike, are you working with raw images?
For some raw images auto exposure is not available, have a look at this manual page:
http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=18%26se ction=9%26tasks=true
Note: Automatic exposure adjustment is available for Aperture-supported RAW images only. If you want to adjust the exposure of another file type, such as JPEG or TIFF, see Working with the Exposure Controls. For a list of supported RAW file types, go to the Apple website at http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs. -

I have mountain lion and the newest version of iphoto. It won't quit unless I force quit it, it won't import photos, it won't let me edit photos without freezing up. I have tried rebuilding the database and repairing permissions without success
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it freezes also try this:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the new library doesn't freeze or act like your current library then your current library is the culprit.
In that case Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

IPhoto Bogs down while editing photos.
I just upgraded to Leopard and iLife 08. I have a MB 2.0 Core Duo with 2GB Ram.
I have noticed that the refresh while editing my Nikon D70 raw files is slow, I can see windows like the histogram redrawing while making changes and the more changes I make the more unresponsive it gets.
Has anyone else noticed this on their hardware?
PaulPaul:
It can't the too little memory but how much free space do you have on your HD? Also have you repaired disk permissions after the Leopard upgrade? If not do so but beware that it might be very, very slow, a bug, but will finish.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Photo booth keeps quitting unexpectedly!!!
Photo keeps quitting and i cant see the new effects in Lion
I had this same problem. Go to your Applications folder, select Photo Booth (don't open it) then press Command+I. Make sure that "Open in 32-bit mode" is NOT selected. For whatever reason, that was causing mine to crash every time I opened it.

Applications keep quitting - why?
Applications keep quitting on me - anything from word, to DVD player, to firefox. It's getting rather irritaing. Could it be my RAM? I bought a 512mb to go with the 256mb I already had. Admittadly I bought it from ebay, could it be corrupt or could it be something else?
Thanks
iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9) First GenerationWelcome to Discussions - try using Rember to check your RAM, also, you can try switching the slots they are in, and running without the 512 stick. Hopefully you have a money back guarantee from the vendor. If the RAM proves to be bad, do buy the next stick from a place that gives you a lifetime guarantee and the right to return the faulty RAM.
Please post back and let us know what happened,

IPhoto quits unexpectedly while editing photos
I'm running iPhoto 9.4.2, using a Macbook Pro and Mountain Lion. I've tried repeatedly to repair my library, installed iPhoto Library Manager, and even reinstalled all of my pictures, and yet I can't edit more than about 10 photos before the program quits. I've never had this problem before, and it's especially poorly-timed, since I just got back from vacation. What is going on, and how do I fix it?
I did as you suggested, then started editing some photos. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same problem with the unexpected quitting. Here's the error report; I think it's the same as before, with the crash still occurring at Thread 16.

Anyone having issues with your iphone4 shutting down while editing photos
Recently I have been cropping some photos on my iphone4, while in the midst of cropping the phone shuts off. Everything is up to date on the phone and I am not sure what the cause of this is. Has anyone else had this issue and what have you done to resolve it?
Thanksthere were quite a few people that had the probably when trying to crop a screenshot, the solution hasn't been found. i haven't seen any threads on here of people having problems editing regular photos.

After an import of about 20 black & white photos to iPhoto I was editing one when iPhoto shut down. The "unexpected shut down" message was displayed. I clicked reopen, which it did. However, my last import was completely missing. Not only that, everything I had imported, adjusted and filed for the past 2 weeks was also missing. It has still saved all of the albums I created but all show "no photos".
When I try to re-import from my back-up, iPhoto says "can't import, photo is already in the library".
Can anyone help? What version of iPhoto?
Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Iphone shutting off while editing photo
I took a picture of something, and when i went on my photos to rotate it my iphone keeps shutting off then turning back on. Ive tried shutting it off restarting all my apps I dony know why it keeps happening.
Not sure either but try force-closing the Photos app: double-tap the home button, locate Photos in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, tap the home button. Then try rotating a photo again and see if it's working now.

I have a problem with elements 11 freezing up while editing photos.
It freezes up with a checkered window of the photo. I uninstalled/reinstalled the software and that worked for a while but now the probelm has returned. It seems to have cured it for a while but now the problem has returned. I have to restart the computer everytime this occurs. It is working fine at the moment but I know it is goingot happen again. I looked for an update but I couldn't find one for Photoshop Ele 11.
Now at version 9, so that is old enough that I do not think Adobe has a download now
But, since this is a USER TO USER forum, with only the space provided by Adobe, it may be that nobody here will know what old products Adobe has
Does your laptop have a program to create an install CD from the "reserve" area?
Have you asked your laptop vendor if they will sell you an install CD? -
I use a MacBook Pro Retina 17" running OS X (10.8.4)
I've been using MP Navigator EX 3.1.3 quite happily but now it has started to quit whenver I tried to save the scanned files.
Using ScanGear suffers the same issue.
Any advice?
Cheers,Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -

While editing in Camera Raw, software stops working and starts spooling
Anyone out there that might have a solution. While editing photos in camera raw, software starts to spool and continues. Only way out is to push power button on iMac to turn it off.
Provide the name of the program you are using so a Moderator may move this message to the correct program forum
The Cloud is not a program, it is a delivery process... a program would be Photoshop or InDesign or Muse or ???
