While exporting event to hard drive i didn't change kind to original..

It was set to JPEG -Now all my movies are black--they show the correct length, when you hit play..black..nothing.. i have deleted some and now cant get to go back into iphoto 11 or play.. are they lost forever?  Ideas?

Ok, sorry - While exporting several events in Iphoto 11 to an external hard drive that had jpeg and .mov files i went to file/export/--on the kind i didn't change from Jpeg to original - so my photos are good on the hard drive , but on the .mov files they show to play and have the correct minutes , but are black and do not show any of the movie.  I have deleted some files in iphoto already, when i try to import them back into iphoto it says unsupported file format.  ---on the .MOV files that are "black" on the hard drive and deleted from my iphoto, are they gone forever?

while clearing out my hard drive on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 i managed to delete my iphoto is it possible for me to relocate it? along with the photos it had on it?

If your Mac came with iPhoto preinstalled, before the AppStore was introduces, iPhoto should be on the system install DVDs that came with with your Mac. Look for the DVD with the bundled additional applications.
If you deleted your iPhoto library, restore it from your backup - you need to restore "iPhoto Library", which is located in your Pictures folder by default.
How long ago did this happen? If it was only recently, data recovery software could be used to restore jpeg images, but this kind of software is not available for free,

Buy or borrow an external USB optical drive.
See the confirmation email or covering letter to obtain the serial number. If you have lost it, contact the supplier.

tried on a different mac. The same problem exists.
If that is the case, its extremely unlikely you have a bad USB cable on the seagate, rather as I mentioned earlier a bad SATA bridge card.
If the Seagate 1TB USB external wont open on either Mac and youve verified same (try a diff. USB cable if you have one however this is nearly never the case),....then to get the data off that HD (unless it is dead which is also extremely unlikely),......then you would need to extract the HD from its case and insert same into either a HD dock or USB HD enclosure.
8 out of 10  seemingly dead inopperable 1-3+ year old external HD are perfectly fine, rather the cheap 50 cent SATA bridge card fries and dies (alas)
reply back if you need help in extracting same.

    Hello Jen,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro!  I understand how important is to have your email account setup on your new computer. I found a couple of resources that I think might help.
You can check the Mail Setup Assistant for the server settings for common email providers.  I recommend checking your email settings here first to verify they match what you have in the Mail application:
    Mail Setup Assistant
    https://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/
If the Mail Setup Assistant does not provide settings for your email account, you can use the following article when contacting your email service provider to gather the necessary information to setup your account:
Configuring Mail for your email account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277
If you are able to setup your account but messages are not being downloaded, I recommend reviewing the following article:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Anyone know why LR would change all my export presets to hard drive?

I am trying to create some export presets, but LR wont allow me to create any that export to Hard Drive. They all change when I hit "Add" to Email. I go and try to update with current settings, but they all keep reverting to Email and not Hard Drive.
    Lightroom 4.4, btw.

Email seems to be the "go to" export service when there are problems with the current export service. It happens to me all the time when export plugins are fouled up. I wouldn't expect it to happen with hard drive export service however, unless hard drive export service is fouled up in Lightroom. Be sure to try it without any export filters (post-process actions) inserted, since problems with those could be a factor.
If you have the problem without "export filters" inserted, then you may have to re-install Lightroom or something - something not right..

  • I have OSX 10.6.6 MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and i am trying to format my whole hard drive (back to factory settings) from the original CD. Can someone please give instructions?

I have an OS X 10.6.6 MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and i am trying to format my whole hard drive (back to factory settings) from the original CD.
    Can someone please give instructions?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To restore the MacBook Pro to factory settings:
    1. Make a backup of your files because everything will be erased.
    2. Insert the Snow Leopard disc and press the C key while your Mac is starting to start from the DVD.
    3. Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    4. Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X

  • Trouble exporting to external hard-drive

    Hello,
Hoping for some help on this issue.
In the older version I had of iPhoto, I could click and drag over the specific files I wanted to back up on my external hard drive. In the 08 version when open my pictures library I only have an icon of the iphotos library. When I click on it to choose the specific folders i want to back up, it dosent expand to show the contents it just launches the program.
Is there an easier way to just select the folders I want to back up instead of having to go thru the programs interface? I find this change in the program frustrating and time consuming.
I dragged over the whole folder, but even from the removable drive it launches the program instead of just showing me the file names and folders.
Many thanks in advance for help on this matter
    O

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
You can use an app such as DejaVu or Chronosync to do incremental back ups of the Library. There are many other options: search on MacUpdate.
If you want to back up specific files simply select them in the iPhoto Window and use the File -> Export command. YOU can do this to back up specific files, albums or Events. It’s faster and safer than rooting through the folders of the iPhoto Library Folder.
    FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Bridge: problems with exporting files onto hard drive

Hi -- I regularly export my files on Bridge to my hard drive and this morning it is not working. It goes so far as to show me the job process box (with the bar that shows the level of completion), but after that nothing happens. The bar is blank and photos are not exported. Anybody have any ideas as to why and how to fix this?

A lot more DETAILED information will be needed before anyone can help you.
Bridge doesn't import or "export" anything.  Your files are never "in" Bridge.  Bridge simple reflects the location of the files wherever you put them on your disk(s). When you move them (not "export" them), they're simply moved or copied, depending on their location, to a new location.
In any event, more info from you is needed.

  • Exporting to external hard drive & viewing on PC

I want to share family photos with relatives and use them as my back-up. I didn't want to give them my entire photo library, so I exported the pertinent albums to an external hard drive, planning to download directly to their computers.
Only a few of the pictures would open. It didn't seem to matter whether they were photos I scanned or photos directly from the digital camera.
They all had the file extension. They all showed up, but the good ones were thumbnails and the bad ones were icons.
From reading the discussions, it sounds like it should have worked.
    What might have happened?

    leonieDF wrote:
Including the originals is a must; I should have mentioned it, but why the previews as well? Much more data to transfer?
Excellent question  .  It forced me to go back and make a list of what Previews are used for:
    - displayed in the Viewer until the full-res Image is rendered
    - used for Image when Original is off-line
    - shared with iLife and iWork (and, afaik, any program that uses the OS X Media Browser, inc. the Desktop and Screensaver Preferences pane)
    - share with iDevices (not sure how this one works)
    - drag-able to other programs
So there is little reason to include Previews in this case.
I'm somewhat lazy in this regard: I just set up Previews to always be there.  That way they are never missing, and the topic doesn't come up.  The cost is storage space, which I value, but much less than time, and some delay when copying Libraries.  There is one huge advantage, imho, for those who have referenced originals: the Preview serves as a last-ditch back-up.  Almost all the Libraries I use are mostly referenced.  I like the fact that if I lose a Library somehow, I still have the originals, and if I lose the originals somehow, I still have high-quality Previews.
But again, for the OP: there is no reason to include Previews when you are exporting a Library you are going to merge back into the originating Library.  Chapeau Léonie!

  • Exporting library off hard drive?

This is my first post here, so please pardon me if this is the wrong place to post this, or the question has already been answered.
My computer is old and can't handle ITunes, so I'm using my mum's computer. However, I don't want to use up her hard drive by keeping my library of music on it. Is there some way I can either delete music, or export it somewhere else so that her hard drive isn't taken up by it? I tried going to file, library, then export library and putting it onto a cd-rw, but it didn't do anything. Any advice?

From what I understand in those directions though, that's only to move your music from one location to another that's still on the same hard drive.
That's not true. See the second paragraph of the summary.

  • Export client to hard drive to move to a different system

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this as I am fairly new to the forums.
We have 2 SAP servers one in the US and one in Germany.
We are getting rid of the SAP server in the us because the lease is due on this server.
We have one client system that I need to export from this US server to send to the folks in Germany to import as a new client.
But I am sort of stuck as this is a totally different SAP server.  I tried to use transaction code SCC8 but it looks like that exports to an existing system within the server?  Is there a way to export a client out to a hard drive so I can then move the files to a dvd and send them via mail to germany?
Does SCC8 only work to export a client on the existing system???

If its done via export then is basically a huge transport... as long as both versions of SAP are the same and patch at the same level you should be ok.
but I am sort of stuck as this is a totally different SAP server.
Can you be more specific?... as I said before they need to be the same version, same patch level.
there a way to export a client out to a hard drive so I can then move the files to a dvd and send them via mail to germany?
Depending on the profile used SCC8 will create 2 or 3 files... I wouldn't use DVD's but you can definitevely store the data in a external drive or backup tapes.
If the systems are different versions and you need to install a new box in germany you will be better off creating a dump using sapinst. If the target OS/DB is different you'll need to follow the heterogenous system copy guide otherwise Homogeneous system copy will do.
Does SCC8 only work to export a client on the existing system???
No, you can use SCC8 to export to other systems

  • Aperture Export to External Hard Drive - Problem

I have a problem I'm hoping you can help me with. Bear with me here...I decided to backup my aperture library to an external hard drive, but I wanted to do so by exporting about 6 GIGS of RAW photos instead of using the vault.
So, I selected all the photos, clicked file/export masters and selected the external hard drive and the folder within that drive. An error occurred about 3/4 of the way thought the export, and aperture crashed. Now here's the problem: For some reason, my computer is telling me all the files that succeeded in exporting are taking up my HD memory, not the external drive's. When I look for the photos, they don't exist anywhere. They're not on the external drive nor are they on my hard drive. When I go back into Aperture and try to export a photo, it shows me the last export was to the external drive. It's baffling. It says the export was to:
    mac/volume/externaldrive
Strangely, there is no such folder as "volume" on my mac.
So, now I've lost about 5 GB of space on my HD and I have no idea how to reclaim that memory. Does anyone know what could have happened? This is critical for me because I only have about 1 GB of space on my HD left.
    Thanks for your help!

Oops...I meant to write that it's 60 GIGS.

  • Export songs to hard drive shuffled

i have about 6000 songs that i want to put on a external hard drive to play in my truck.how can i export them in a shuffled list onto the hard drive?all the songs are copied from my record and cd,s.

What music player in the truck will you use to play the songs? If that has a shuffle function then the order on the HD doesn't matter.
You could also try this : put your music into a giant playlist in iTunes and set it to Shuffle. Click the column on the left and you will see the "shuffle order" that iTunes has chosen. Drag the music to your HD and Finder will try to preserve that sequence - some tracks will have numbers inserted as prefixes (depending on album folders), others won't, or so my experiment showed. However the tracks that don't will be in track name order, which is kind of random, wouldn't you say?

  • Exporting to external hard drive

What's the best way to transfer photos from my laptop to an external hard drive for permanent storage using Lightroom?
    Phyllis Bertke

I Don't know if its the best way, but i have a "My pictures" folder on my external drive thats i added to the Folders in lightroom, within that i have the folder structure containing images.
So all i have to do to move images accross is drag the folder name ( or selected images) to where i want, and lightroom moves the original RAW files, but they stay visible in the same catalog.
With 1.1 you can export a as new catlog, i've not tried that as i only want one.
    Mark.
