While getting IOS 7 on my iphone 5 via my PC, the update failed and caused my last backup of my IPhone to go into a folder that the computer is not recognizing as a backup.
After spending many hours on the phone with apple support we belive that this file has all of my lost photos, videos, and text messages in it. However due to the format that the file is in the computer is unable to open these files as the pictures that we think they are. Is there any way to get itunes to realize that this is a backup? or to convert the file into something my computer can read?
Place the iPhone into recovery mode and restore the iPhone with iTunes on your computer.

Try DFU Mode Restore. Here are the steps:
Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release Power button, keep holding Home button. When iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, if iPhone screen is blank, black this is DFU Mode. Usually takes up to 20 more seconds of holding Home button. Restore the iPhone firmware. DFU Mode can be a bit tricky even for experienced users, so keep trying to get DFU Mode. Again it is Recovery Mode with the blank, black screen. If you have the iTunes screen this is not DFU Mode, keep trying. -

My ipod, when pluged into the computer, is not recognized by itunes.
When i plug in my ipod, it wont show up under devices in itunes, but it is showing up under devices in my computer. A message pops up saying "do you want to scan and fix your ipod". I close that message. Then couple minutes later i get another window message, that says "Autoplay" and there is a bar that says "searching for content..." I close that message also. When i disconnect my ipod, in itunes it says "The ipod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." i hit the okay button, because its my only option. When the message is up, the ipod shows up in the devices section of itunes. One night i plugged in my ipod, and it got to a point where it was recognized in itunes, but it the top middle bar of itunes, it said " varifying ipod" the next morning i woke up, it was still saying that.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting.

if anyone knows how I can fix this problem please let me know. I have tried theSMC start up, and even tried plugging the G/drive into a different outlet to see if it was a power issue. The power light to the G/drive is on, but I system preferences can not find it to set up time machine.

i'm trying to install iOS 5.0 but getting message that my computer does not have enough space to backup my iPad and continuing will result in loss of all media on iPad. an option seemed to be backing up on iCloud, but i think you have to have iOS 5.0 to install iCloud.
how do i install iOS 5.0 without losing anything on my iPad?If you really do not have enough space on your HDD for a backup of your iPad, you do not have enough space at all. Free up at least 15% of your HDD, in any case more than 0.8GB for the iPad update.
Make backups on an external disk.
After freeing up enough space, try again. -
I own the iphone 4 and i was using safari and went to google something and my phone froze. My computer is not recognizing my phone when I plug it in, and my charger is not allowing my phone to charge. What can i do to get my phone unfrozen?
Try resetting it: hold the on/off and home buttons 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple logo (ignoring the off slider that appears first), then release. If it won't reset you may need to put it in recovery mode and restore it as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.

when I plug my iPhone in to my computer, iTunes doesn't recognize it as a device. I have deleted and re-downloaded iTunes twice which seems to fix the problem temporarily but then the next time I plug my phone in, the device is not recognized.
What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?

I've seen people with their phones being recognized on the computer but not on iTunes, but this is the other way around. iTunes is recognizing my phone just fine, but the computer is not - that is, it doesn't show up as a storage device when I open "my computer". Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

My ipad is not being seen by itunes in Windows 7. I uninstalled then reinstalled itunes it started working for a while then it stopped. I get a message stating that the device is not recognized or the device is defective replace device. Anyone have a fix.
At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think. I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point. Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before I take it back the better I think.
