While I watch shows/movies on Apple TV, I get the message: iTunes not available. Please try again later.

I have Apple TV v.2.0. Recently-when I'm watching TV shows or movies from iTunes-the video suddenly stops and the following message appears on screen: iTunes not available. Please try again later. What can I do to fix this? I've been using Apple TV for more than 5yrs, and I've never had this issue until recently.

If you're actually using Mac OS X v10.5.8, as your profile says, you're wasting your time trying to submit crash reports to Apple.

I have icloud and a new iPhone5 ! They work good , took pictures and a few short movies, plugged in my phone to my iMac transfered Items to iPhoto then inported items to iMovie. when getting to know what i was doing i decided to delete pictures and movies i no longer wanted. when i looked for a few missing items i opend Finder and there some where buyt i had already trashed them and deleted the doubles. Still could not find missing pictures and movies 3 items and today after calling yahoo about a different complant with sending feed back for Yahoo mail Applications login . i opened up Attachments Not the Large Attachments just Attachments and there were the 3 items i had been hunting for to Trash and delete. the mail Attachments file does not have the Option to delet Files and photos and movies. When i tried to Download the 3 items a window shows up that says Error While Downloading the Files, A Server Error has occured, please Try Again later. nothing works how do i remove the Trapped photo and movie Blank Files and trash them? Onece they get into my downloads i can do something with them as i understand. That part of it kind of keeps me in Question also because why should i have to down load my own files of Attachments / Pictures and movies if they are comming from my iMac? How much better is iLife11 then iPhoto08 and iMovie08 . Thanks Greg

Are you using a proxy server to access the net?
Or another cause could be that your router thinks it's in its home country (probably china)
I just don't know how to fix it. There's a way but I don't know enough to advise.
You could try googling your router model and 'wrong country' or keywords like that and see if something comes up.

Cannot watch movies - all say 'This item is currently being modified. Please try again later.'

Every movie I try to watch on my AppleTV results in a message stating 'This item is currently being modified. Please try again later.' How can I find a fix for this issue? I am in the UK. Make sure the country location on your appletv is set to match the country on your iTunes account. Fixed it for me after months of struggling with the same problem.

I selected to rent and watch now instead of rent and watch later. I tried to watch it now and it said it would be available in 6 hours or something silly like that (certainly out of the realm of NOW ) Anyway.... I tried to play it several times and the time it said I had to wait did go down. 5 hours to 3 hours to 2 hours and so on but this was an all day and next day kinda thing. I guess I was downloading it for 2 days. I figured id just get up the next day and try again NOW the movie has been removed from the rented section all together. It's gone...my time is up!!! I haven't even watched it yet. It was downloading for 2 days. I know I can adjust my settings to download a lesser quality and thats fine for NEXT time but I paid $5 to rent a movie that I never started watching because it never finished downloading! I wonder if because I selected Rent and Watch Now (joke) it assumed even though it was still downloading that it started my time at initial time of purchase? If so that's crap too. Anybody have similar experience?

Have you paired your Apple Tv with your iTunes account? That's how rentals and purchases are billed. If, however, you have already done that it is possible that there is a glitch in the system. I've had that happen occasionally and it usually goes away if I reset Apple Tv. On one occasion that I didn't work so I had to go to iTunes and deauthorize and then authorize this computer. Also, check to see if your Home Sharing is on (under File in iTunes). Hope that helps.

Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.

Hi vazandrew, thanks for your help, Ive just checked, both home sharings ie Apple TV and itunes on my laptop, and they were both on , but for the heck of it, I turned them off and back on again. I still have the same problem.

I Have this issue too except I can log into my sons Apple id and watch his shows. I can AirPlay non-itunes content such as a tv show that has AirPlay but not my iTunes purchased items. I have tried all the fixes as suggested even resetting and reinstalling. It is bizarre, why can I watch my sons shows, movies....? I can see mine but they won't load. our family is not on family share. my son when he uses his own Apple tv in his home has no issue. All other Apple devices are working fine and I can watch from iPhone, iPad etc, just not Apple tv.
very disappointed with Apple at the moment. There updates, fixes and bugs are getting to be as bad as windows. i am seriously thinking of going back to android. I have found out what's causing TV shows to display "Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later.". At first like many others I thought this was an issue with only Mad Men (on of Netflix's most popular streaming TV shows) but then I saw other people are having problems. So I ran a test, I found a few random shows. Swtch at Birth and Spiderman, I watched the first episode for a few minutes and then hit menu a few times to get back the main Netflix menu in Apple TV. When I tried to go back to the shows I get the "Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later." message right away. I tried this with a few other random shows and the same thing happens.
Until this gets resolved if you're watching a TV show you really like just keep it opened and do not go back to the main Netflix menu. Hopefully this information helps.

No netflix no problem. Unplug all cords from your Apple tv and go get some popcorn. Come back and plug everything back in.
