While in imovie, idvd will not open

finish making an imovie - go to share to open idvd and it won't open.

if it doesn't open regardless of what is suggested above, then drag and drop the plist/s from iDvd to the trash followed by a complete restart of your mac.
The plist is located in your HOME folder > Library > Preferences >
com.apple.iDvd.plist
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • IMovie '06 will not open - says a Quicktime update is required

iMovie '06 will not open for me. I get a message saying that, "QuickTime update required - iMovie requires QuickTime version 7.5.0 or later, which can be downloaded from www.apple.com/quicktime." And the only button displayed is "Quit".
The problem is, my QuickTime Player is already at Version 7.5 (149.5) (and beneath that it says 'QuickTime Version 7.5.0 (861)').
Any idea how I can get iMovie '06 to realise that I do in fact have the up-to-date version of QuickTime?

Hi Michael and welcome to the forums!
Did you restart and repair permissions after updating Quicktime?
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • IMovie Project will not open

i have a project i have been working of for weeks.  today i went to open the project in iMovie and the sould would not play, the red indicator line stayed stationary and nothing happened.  when i went to the Event Library, i could see the clips and the indicators that they had been imported.  When i attempted to play the clips in the event library, they would play but without sound.
I quite iMove and tried to repair permissions, now the project refuses to open.  the issues i mentioned in the event library remain unchanged, but the project refuses to even open.
i moved all files to an external HD and reopened iMovie.  iMove identified only one project, but can't tell which one but it would open play.  the Event Library had two files with the movie clips, but only one had the identifers of an import into a project.  Both of the event libraries would now play the clips with sound.
I quite iMovie and ejected the external HD then relunched iMovie.  the project that remained still would now not open or play and the sounds and the event library clips had no sound.  i could see the green indicators of sound in the meter but none came out of the speakers.....this seem to be the only project effected and it had just over 2 hours of movie time in it.
I am running iMovie 11 (version 9.09 build 17950) on a macbook pro running OSX 10.8.3, 2.2 Ghz Intel Cor I7, 4GB RAM

this was the post i found, i wish i could give this guy the credit on his post, so cut and paste of it was the next best thing.    As you can see from the post date, nearly 3 years later and the issue still exsists.  I don't think it effects many of us, but is worth knowing.

Re: Help - iMovie doesn't react anymore
Jun 13, 2010 2:32 AM (in response to John Cogdell)
I had a heck of a time today trying to figure this out, spent about 12 hours. This string helped me the most. I had to go a few steps further to get a total fix for iMovie and my project and thought this might be useful for others who have similar problems w/ iMovie. I have been working on a particularly large project with many, many clips in one Event Folder. Today all of the sudden the sound and playback wouldn't respond when I hit the space bar, I couldn't view anything at all in the window viewer, eventually iMovie wouldn't open at all, and all I would get is the spinning beach ball. Had to force quit a hundred times. What worked for me was: 1. Freed up some space on my hard drive by pulling other events (which were not tied to any completed movies) to external HD. This may not have anything to do w/ the fix, but I ain't leavin it out after what I went through today.
    2. With imovie closed, found where the Event Folder and associated Project I have been working on were saved on the hard drive...in my case I had them saved on the ext. HD. I highlighted the Event Folder and Project File separately, right clicked on each and moved them to trash. Remember-you are not deleting them by moving them to trash, just do NOT hit "Empty Trash". (If you drag somewhere else other than trash it will only create a copy and can take longer)
    3. Followed John's advice above by going to User Library>Preferences folder and dragging the files named com.Apple.iMovie7.plist, and com.Apple.iMovie8.plist to my desktop. For me at this point I was able to open iMovie and navigate through my other events and projects. Space bar worked for sound and playback, viewer worked, iMovie running pretty efficiently.
    4. I then went into my Trash folder, right clicked on the Events Folder and Project File separately and selected "Put Back" which places them right back in former location. I closed iMovie and re-opened.
What I found is that iMovie was not responding well because I had too many clips in one event folder. And with those same files now back in iMovie it will not take long for it to start acting funky. So I broke the event into 3 folders. While in iMovie I created 3 empty Event folders by clicking on File/new event (you might just need 2). I titled them Sports 1, Sports 2, Sports 3. Even though I still couldn't play or hear the Event clips/ project clips for this project, I was able to highlight approx 1/3 of the EVENT clips (not Project clips) by holding down the shift key and pointing the arrow/cursor across the appropriate clips. With the Sports Project back in iMovie, your Event folder should still show the green and orange highlights for your "favorite" and "imported" clips and should allow you to copy only those clips to the new, empty EVENT folders. Once I had highlighted and dragged the Event clips across 3 new event folders I was back to normal...can play, view, and hear all Event Clips and the Project clips. Best of all, I didn't have to re-start my project - of which I have spent a lot more than 12 hours on.  I hope this helps someone. Thanks to all on this string for pointing me in the right direction.  Shawn

  • Idvd (and imovie) will not open

Just recently idvd will not open.  I should say it opens, but that's it. Can't use it, locks up, won't respond.  I have tried dumping the plist for both programs, disk repairs, multiple restarts, still not working.  Any ideas?

    It was a Wild try.
250Gb is more than sufficient. My minimum is 25Gb.
TRY - Start iDVD but keep alt-key down during full up-start - then create a new iDVD project - old ones can be problem makers.
    or May be help here.
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    *com.apple.iDVD.plist*
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK will work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’09 v. 7.0.4, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (does work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    or
    Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

  • IMovie will not open after ram upgrade. How can I fix this?

I updated the ram on my computer by myself from 2gb to 4gb. Everything seemed to work fine, yet when I go to open imovie, it will not open after endlessly bouncing on my dock. I have verified disk permissions. Repaired disk Permissions. Tried replacing iMovie with the iMovie backup from my time machine. Cleared the system cache. Tried reinstalling it using the ilife 11 disk. Tried installing the previous ilife 09 version. Reinstalled snow leopard and did a time machine back up. Placed the old ram back in the computer. All this things done with no success.
DOES SOMEBODY HAVE ANY IDEA ON WHAT I COULD DO?
    regards
    Lloyd

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Faulty RAM - There are programs that can test this as Tech-tools (buy or in Apple Care pac)
    • Wrongly inserted RAM - Can be tricky and sometime not obvious - everything's looks OK but in certain situations it just randomly don't work.
Take out the new RAM and try Your Mac without it to see that it's still OK to start with and then very carefully re-install RAM and now be very careful to see that it snaps in exactly as it's intended to.

  • IDVD will not initialize in 64 bit mode

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and booted up in 64 bit mode. I just discovered that IDVD will not open in 64 bit mode. Rebooted in 32 bit mode IDVD works fine. Has anyone else has this problem or a similar problem with any APPLE apps in 64 bit mode. Is there a fix out there for this type of problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The current iDVD application is not 64-bit. In fact none of the iLife or iWorks applications have been converted to 64-bit. It's not likely they will be since there's a large user base that can only use the universal binaries. There isn't that much use for 64-bit booting at this time unless you are a developer creating 64-bit only applications.
This is not a problem for which a fix is even possible.

  • My iMovie will not open

I have been using my iMovie 09 successfully for quite some time. Now all of a sudden it will not open. "quit unexpectedly" is what I get. I have restarted my computer making sure that there are no other programs running.. and still. No good. Anybody have any ideas?

wow...fortunately (and I use that term VERY loosely), I bought apple-care which cost me a pretty penny. Anyway, there's no way to get a hold of anyone. The phone center in Asia is not open and it's outside business hours in the US. So, to summarize: I should have taken the money it cost me to buy this thing and gotten two PCs, an amazing anti-virus program AND a program for video editing. The whole point in buying a MAC was to avoid this very situation.
    VERY FRUSTRATING!!
sorry, just had to rant a little.

  • My Reminders app will not open. When I try to open it, quits and gives me an error message: "Reminders quit unexpectedly while using the CalDAV plug-in." My Reminders is synced with my iPod touch, and it is fine on that. How do I fix it?

Also, the Calendar is loading very very slowly, and sometimes it quits and gives me the same error message as above.

The problem has been fixed with the most recent OS X software update.

After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading. I have no special software like numbers or anything else installed on either device. Just using the default viewer provided by apple for viewing email.

The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.
Is there anyone out there that is viewing .xls files in email using ios6 w/o any other software installed like numbers or any other add ons? I am not upgrading my ipad from ios5 to ios6 so I can still continue to view the emails on my ipad. Is there an email viewer .xls plug-in that will be availablle in the next ios6 update?

You should be able to Save as: iWork 08, but i don't know how it works on Mountain Lion. On my Snow Leopard the Save as window has a part looking like this
Or you can send me the document if you are in a hurry and I save it as iwork 08 for you. Click on my blue name and you'll find my address.
