While performing a system update, I shut down my iPod touch. Can the pictures on my iPod be recovered if my iPod was not backed up?
iPod is fourth generation, the system update was a little over half complete.
I want to get the pictures off the iPod so that I can keep them. Is there any way to do this?

Maybe,
- if when you connect the iPod to your computer you can make a backup? If yes yo can restore from that backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
- Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backup dated when you started the update. the first stiep of an update is iTunes making a backup.
- If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

    - Try directly downloading it on the iPod. To not get charged again see:

    - You can also delete it form iTunes and then redownload (see link above) and try resyncing.

We've think that Apple do it for making the change of the phone!!  :O
what will we have to do for making the downgrade of OS of the phone?
    tks Andrea

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
Apple has never supported downgrading of the iOS.

Power down, hold the Mouse button AND the Option/alt button down at bootup, that should open the CD/DCD tray & you can insert your Install Disc, as well as giving you boot options.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Windows 8/8.1 - No Option for "Install Updates and Shut Down"

We’ve got a handful of Windows 8 workstations and I’ve noticed that users don’t get the “Install Updates and Shut Down” option when they shut their systems down. Nor do they get the updates icon in the notification area.
Instead, all they get is the following message at the logon screen:
There is no way I can expect my users to do this.
I need to ensure that the updates are installed when the user shuts down.
There must be a way of configuring Group Policy to allow Windows 8 workstations to prompt to install updates when the user shuts down.
I cannot implement an option whereby updates are installed automatically without the user being aware. If updates start installing automatically then there is the potential for loss of work if a user is away from their desk for a long period of time and
their system just restarts to complete the installation.
Our current group policy settings are below. This works fine for the Windows 7 workstations.
I presume others have experienced this? Can anyone offer any guidance?
    Thanks

    Client Computers Policy:-

I am sorry but this is NOT an answer.
You're correct. It's not. Microsoft has some overzealous contractors who seem to think any response is "the answer". I've unmarked the post, because, in fact, it was merely "additional information" which may or may not have addressed the
    original issue.
I, like the original poster, have several computers that do NOT offer 'Install Updates' in any of the power menus and definitely do NOT install the updates during either a restart or a shutdown.
Now *THAT* is an entirely *DIFFERENT* situation than what the Original Poster has offered here, so the appropriate thing for you to do is to start a NEW THREAD and fully describe the environment and symptoms of the problem and what you've done (if anything)
to try to identify, isolate, or remediate the undesirable behavior.
The PCs I have are Windows 8.1 installed from a partner copy of Windows 8 and upgraded.
I'm intrigued with this "partner copy of Windows 8" thing. Have you asked "the partner" what they customized in the installation image before you actually installed the product???
Can someone please offer a SOLUTION as opposed to parroting what SHOULD happen.

My iPhone froze while performing a system software download.  How do I unfreeze it?

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
First, try to reset your iPhone:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

If the issue persists, you will need to restore your iPhone by following the steps in the article below:

  • After ressetting smc my rmbp can't enter the system. It shuts down just at the loading interface.

    need help!!!
I saw some article online which suggests to resolve the gaming fps problem by ressetting smc.
so I resset the smc, and enter the system once, found the terminal cannot open, the mail cannot quit and I cannot visite the Internet while I can connect to my wifi. so I force shut down my macbook, and followed the situation as I described above.

I do boot to the recovery HD, but cannot make the disk repaired: somewhat node is broken as far as I know it is a file system structure. And the Disk Utility asked me to format the disk.So I did, reinstalled the os x system and got all my photos lost. Because I have never used time machine, now I have a new problem to find the treasure pictures back. Hope you can help!!!

  • My system won't shut down

I have a 2.1GHz PowerPC G5 with OS X10.4.8 which is 16 month old. It worked fine until yesterday. Now It acts wierd in the following two ways:
First, the computer system won't shut down. When I click on Shut Down Button on the Screen, it won't shut down. Instead the screen shows the clock for ever unless I shut it down manually by pressing the Start button at the back of the computer.
Second, when I click on Software Update, it shows "Checking for new software..." window forever with the progress bar stuck at about one fifth.
Does any of you have a solution to these problems?

    Welcome to the discussions.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro Workstations - Not Getting "Install Updates and Shut Down" notification for new updates

We've got a small handful of Windows 8.1 Pro workstations on our domain (SBS 2008).
The workstations show up in the WSUS Console list along with the details of how many updates need to be installed.
On the Windows 8.1 Pro workstations, at the logon screen they display "Important Updates Are Available. Go to PC Settings to install them".  If we go to PC Settings or Windows Updates via Control Panel the updates show as awaiting installation.
However, we can't rely on users to go into PC Settings or Control Panel to install Windows Updates. We need them to be installed as per Windows 7 and Windows XP - whereby when the user shuts down their workstations it displays the message "Install Updates
    and Shutdown".
Currently the Windows 8.1 Pro workstations do not show this - if you choose to shut down there are no update installation messages and the workstations simply shut down.
Has anyone else encountered this? What needs to be done?
    Thanks in advance.
I don't work for Microsoft - I just use their products.

    It does sound weird yes.
Id like to try and mirror your setup in my lab.
What settings do you have in your WSUS GPO?
Have you seen this, in the 'Configure Automatic Updates' setting?
On Windows 8 and later, you can set updates to install during automatic maintenance instead of a specific schedule. Automatic maintenance will install updates when the computer is not in use, and avoid doing so when the computer
is running on battery power. If automatic maintenance is unable to install updates for 2 days, Windows Update will install updates right away. Users will then be notified about an upcoming restart, and that restart will only take place if there is no potential
    for accidental data loss.
Automatic maintenance can be further configured by using Group Policy settings here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Maintenance Scheduler

Can't get MAC to shut down and start up via the schedule button in system preferences energy saver. Is there another way?

    Try this to start:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • After updating my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.0.5., it has shut down and i still can't turn it back on!

After updating my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.0.5., it has shut down and i still can't turn it back on! I can't even install iTunes on my computers! Yesterday evening I updated it but it didn't work, so i tried to reinstall it and there was written that that i couldn't install iTunes on that computer. So this morning I've tried to install it to another computer but it says the same.. Can someone help me, please?

Are you uninstalling just iTunes?  Because if so, you actually have to uninstall five separate programs, and THEN reinstall.

  • SAP System copy without shutting down the source and the target system

    Hi,
We need to need to System refresh without shutting down both the source and the target system, i read the docs from SAP looks like we need to shutdown the source system during export and import phase, is there any way to do the system refresh without shutting down the system.
    Sathish

    Hi,
Think a little bit about what is a database and you'll get the answer that what you "need to need" is impossible.
Of course it is possible to keep the source running (hopefully, because ususally it is the production system !) by using an online backup, but you need to stop the target system because you will restore a backup on it.
If you use the export/import way, you have to stop both source and target system.

Your only option is to connect your iPhone to your computer via USB (as the diagram indicates) and restore using iTunes.

  • Dreaded SP3 "Install Updates and Shut Down"?

Help!  My t400 just started insisting as a default choice "install updates and shut down" when I try to shut down.
It used to just go with the last thing I chose - so if I hit the off botton last time and said restart, that would pop up this time.
NOW, it wants to "install updates." What updates? I did something in windows update that was supposed to block the installation of Service Pack 3, but now I'm scared to death that SP3 is trying to hijack my machine.
Is there a way to a) find out exactly what updates it wants to install, and b) go back to how things were - when I hit the power botton my last shut down choice (sleep, restart etc) is what comes up?????
    Thanks!
