While publishing an iMovie project iMovie unexpectedly shuts down, why?

While publishing a project in iMovie, iMovie uexpectedly shuts down. Why?

I've been having this problem with iMovie for a few months now, all of a sudden something has happened to my iMovie. It seems to happen only when I insert Picture In Picture option(s) in a slideshow. When exporting the completed Project to Quicktime it crashes. This also happens if I try to Finalize the Project or Share the Project via Vimeo or YouTube. There are a lot of folks out there experiencing this problem, some are finding solutions - I'm not.

  • While working in iMovie, computer shut down and all imported clips from that project disappeared. The project still existed, with titles, but all video clips were gone from the movie as well as the computer library.

Clips were imported from SD card into iMovie project. While working on the project, computer shut down. When restarted, all clips from that event were no longer in the project, or in the computer library. Project existed, with titles, but blank spaces exist where clips had been.

OH MY GOD! This EXACT thing just happened to me! It didn't save my event and didn't show the date in the iMovie library but if I look under all projects, the project is there. Except that there are little blank place holders where all my clips were. Also the title of the project has a little yellow "!" symbol next to it which I can only assume means that the file is corrupted.
I can't believe it destroyed like 8 hours of work!
I have a 15" mid 2011 MBP and Mavericks OS.

  • IMovie unexpectedly shut down....

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been working on this huge project that I have due soon and I'm doing it through iMovie... Well, I was working on it in class today and out of nowhere, iMovie "had an unexpected close". I didn't really think much of it because I've always been told that you can close out of iMovie and it automatically saves all of your progress... I guess I was wrong. I opened iMovie after its little freak out and my project was gone. GONE!!!! I did everything possible. Shut down my computer. Restarted it. I mean, everything and it still isn't coming back. I even called 1-800-MY-APPLE and they basically said that they couldn't help me unless I paid which I don't feel like doing until I know that there is absolutely nothing that can be done. So I start digging, trying to see if there is anthing I can do. I went up to my little search toggle in the top right hand corner and typed in the name of my project, and IT CAME UP! I tried to open it but nope. No luck. I just need it back... It's obviously still on my computer but I just don't know why it won't open.
    Anything will help, Sarah.

    Back up all data.
Quit the application if it's running. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select Services ▹ Reveal from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application. It may rebuild its database and recover your projects. If not, quit again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the file you moved.

why when I try to share a project iMovie is shutting down ?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's a iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie

  • While editing photos iPhoto shut down.  The unexpected shut down message appeared and I pressed re-open.  When it reopened I had lost my most recent import as well as imports from the past 2 weeks.  When I try to re-import it says that they already exist

After an import of about 20 black & white photos to iPhoto I was editing one when iPhoto shut down.  The "unexpected shut down" message was displayed.  I clicked reopen, which it did.  However, my last import was completely missing.  Not only that, everything I had imported, adjusted and filed for the past 2 weeks was also missing.  It has still saved all of the albums I created but all show "no photos".
When I try to re-import from my back-up, iPhoto says "can't import, photo is already in the library".
    Can anyone help?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

  • Mac Mini "unexpectedly shutting down"

Within the last week, my mini (less than two months old) has started suddenly posting a screen (black with grey/white writing), stating that it is has unexpectedly shut down after being on for about 20 minutes. I am instructed to hold down the power button and restart. The problem occurs when I am in different programs and when I looked at the report that was generated it was a kernel error. Any ideas of what the problem is or how to fix it? If the message comes up again (it hasn't the past two times), then I will copy it and post it here.
    TIA-
    Campbell

The problem with diagnosing this issue is that it's neither clear what was wrong with the system when it was repaired, nor what was done to resolve it at the time. While these events may have nothing to do with the present issue, they may be directly related.
As an example - you say that the system was not hot when it recently shut itself down, but had the repair involved removal of the logic board and the thermal pad wasn't replaced (as described as a requirement in the service notes) then it would render the system far more likely to apparently random shutdowns, because heat would build up more quickly and trigger protective mode with little apparent heating. That would also explain why the restart options don't seem to work.
Thus it might be a good idea to ask the repairers exactly what they did to the system when they had it, before contemplating a potential fault in the power unit.

  • Xserve G5 unexpectedly shut down

    Hi there,
We are still using an old Apple Xserve G5 for minor backup jobs. So far the Xserve is running very reliable. A year ago the Xserve unexpectedly
shut down for numerous times. As I found out the guys from the colocation connected the Xserve with a wrong port on their power reset system. So, as
soon as another colocation client initiated a power reset, a shutdown was forced on my Xserve.
Problem: A couple of days ago this kind of behavior reoccurred. My remote card showed me no display signal. So the Xserve has been completely
shutdown. The system.log doesn't show me any useful entries like localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown. There are no entries before the system startup logfile entries. This time the server is attached to correct power supply unit and the power supply is working normally.
Unfortunately my ISP says that there were no maintenance on the colocationrack or any kind of power outage during this timeframe.  I am still not sure
    about that…
Anyone have seen this error on those old Xserve models?
    Thanks

3 times in last few days, while digitizing HDV
    footage in FCP 5.1via FWire400 - the g5 has
unexpectedly SHUT DOWN. There's no Kernal Panic
warning - the system just flat shuts off as if the
    power was pulled.
Have you tried copying the footage to the external SATA hard drives instead? I have had all sorts of problems with FireWire enclosures no longer working properly. If it works with the SATA setup you will know its probably the FW drive or its enclosure.
The process of elimination goes on,
    Michael

  • MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason- help!

MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason.
My MBP has been working fine, until I updated to 10.5. Originally this problem started in Bootcamp running XP, but has now done this once in OS X, just a while ago. There seems to be no difference- even when the psu is plugged in. Just now when it did this again, I pressed the power key and the led on the front blinked really fast, then there was a tone- like it was doing a firmware update (but I did the firmware update months ago!).
I've done a power reset- taking out the battery and holding the power key down for 20 seconds, which seems to have helped, but then again this problem seems to be rather sporadic, and one can never tell when it is going to happen next.
Oh yes, there is a mechanical 'click' that sounds when it does it- like a relay click. Is there a relay power related IC on the motherboard?
Any clues anyone? (I'm sending this exact letter to Apple as well)
    Tom

It's an interesting thread, but I seem to have the problem even when the cord is plugged in. I did have battery problems when I first got this MBP, but they seemed to settle down once I used the computer a bit more. FWIW, I have now got them mostly while using Bootcamp. BC beta 1.3 was really stable and good. It wasn't until I bought Leopard that this problem started. And again, it's only happened 3 or 4 times now.
I'll just have to keep saving. I'm sure Apple will wise up to this sooner or later. (Incidently, I haven't been able to send anything to Apple as I can't find their direct contact addie. Can someone 'remind' me? Thanks!

  • PSE8 unexpectedly shuts down

I bought PSE8 from download about 6 months ago and loaded it on my desktop - a mid-range HP.  Yesterday, the desktop died and I replaced it with a new, more powerful box - 8G RAM, a 945 processor and 1T of hard disk space.  After installing PSE8 on this desktop, I noticed that it would start up fine and run for a while, then unexpectedly shut down.  I'd get a Windows box telling me PSE8 had unexpectedly shut down and I'd be notified if Windows found a solution (not holding my breath for that.)
This never happened with PSE8 on my old HP, although Premier Elements 8 was useless due to the same problem - it would shut down after just a couple of minutes, and I spent hours on the phone with Mumbai trying to resolve it, and never did.  I switched to Sony Vegas for video, and am very happy.  But, I'm doing a lot of printing for the holidays, and I need PSE8 to run and not shut down.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to solve this problem?  It is unique to this new machine.  I am doing a lot of printing, and am hooked up to an EPSON R1900.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
    RBC

Hope you would have got solution of your issue. If you again encounter this issue, try deleting the PSE preferences and then you can try launching the application.

  • IMAC running Leopard unexpectedly shuts down?

My new 20" IMAC (with Leopard installed), is starting to shut down unexpectedly from time to time. It's been happening to me repeatedly in Photoshop--Photoshop works well EXCEPT when I try to adjust the highlights & shadows of an image---then the computer just shuts down again (I've been able to replicate this problem repeatedly.) This issue also happened once while I was looking at photos in "Preview" .
I spoke to Adobe--they said it could be some corrupt settings in the user account & should set up a new user to solve the problem.
Has anyone had this unexpected shut-down issue? Any solutions?
    Thanks!

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Does your iMac get really hot?
When was the last time you vacuumed all of the air intakes, air exhaust, vents , slot, holes and ports all over your the outside of your iMac?
Shutdown your iMac disconnect everything, even power, lay your iMac screen down on a heavy, but soft surface like a heavy towel or blanket and vacuum every opening, slots and ports around your entire iMac. Not just the upper back vent.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to open the access plate where the RAM slots are and do a very light vacuum over that area, as well in case there is dust buildup there, too!
Then reconnect everything, power back up and install a temperature monitor like iStat Pro or iStat menus and report back with the temps.
    Good Luck!
