While upgrading iphoto database, iphoto stops responding.

Iphoto will not open, I have tried to restore it from time machine, I have tried to upgrade to '11 and it keeps shuting down, stops responding. I know my pictures are still there, I can see them in finder. Any ideas!
Thanks

  • IPhoto 11 has stopped responding. I was making a slideshow when it froze, I had to force quit to close it down but now when I try to open it starts to try to open but cannot and I can only close it down through force quit.

IPhoto 11 has stopped responding. I had been working on a large slideshow for a week now and all was great when the slideshow froze when I tried to add another image. To shut it down I had to force quit.  When I have tried to re-open IPhoto starts to launch  but the rainbow icon just keeps going round and I have to force quit to get out of the programm. I cannot access any of the files in IPhoto and it wil not open. Any suggestions??? I would really want to save my images in IPhoto if at all possible as I do not have them stored anywher elese. Any help would be very apprreciated.

Remember: you always need a back up for any important data on your computer. Always.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    If that fails
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto 9.6 stops responding when trying to print

I just upgraded to iOS 10.10 Yosemite and now iPhoto 9.6 stops responding if I try to print something.
Even if I open it and immediately hit print with no picture selected, it stops responding.
I can work within the program, i.e., move pictures and files around but the minute I hit print, it stops responding.
    HELP!!!!

    Try the following:
    >
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
6 - try to print from this rebuild library.

  • Suddenly iphoto freezes and stops responding when I connect my cameras to download both photos and video.  I've never had a problem downloading from these cameras before today. I have both a Nikon D700(SLR) and Kodak HD Zi8(pocket camecorder). What to do?

I've tried checking for updates (none necessary), running v 9.1.5
Everytime I open it and connect a camera I have to force quit because it stops responding and won't upload.
It's uploaded from both these cameras before with no problem.
    How can I fix this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • After Yosemite upgrade, the Finder continuously stops responding

The upgrade to Yosemite seemed to complete without incident.  However, on initial login I quickly found that any attempt to access the Finder caused it to stop responding, and the system to beach ball.
Force Quit'ing to relaunch it has no real effect.  It just happens again the next time you use it.  I've tried (a few) reboots with no luck.
Google suggests this was a problem of DP5, but, of course, I'm using the golden master as released on the App Store.  My upgrade was from Mavericks, also, not from the public beta.
    Anybody else with this problem?

Same problem for the me. The machine is completely and utterly unusable.
Search: Type one or two characters and the beach ball appears - the only solution after that is power cycle
When I open the Applications from the task bar, no icons are there, just outlines.
Pretty much anything finder related is dead.
This machine started at 10.6.x and was upgraded to Mavericks, and now Yosemite.
This *****. I cannot clean install and I have better things to do with my life than fix this. I am disappointed - very disappointed!

  • Keyboard Stops Responding For Minutes At A Time, Then Comes Back Normal

This is a very strange problem that has appeared in the last week or so. Right now as I am using my PowerBook G4 10.4.9 2GB RAM everything is working fine. But every once in a while the keyboard will completely stop responding. The mouse/cursor can be moved anywhere, I can click on any window to make it active but the keyboard is completely dead. Then as mysteriously, it will come back to normal --- as I am typing this literally 2 minutes after it happened.
Anyone else having this problem and/or has a solution? Thanks.
    Imran

OK, maybe not two minutes but 66 seconds... but in either case, at first it was almost long enough to make me think I had to do a hard reboot but then it came back to normal.
Also, the tabs near the top I think are applicable to my older PowerBook G3s... you just reminded me to put them on eBay. I do not think there are such tabs on the PowerBook G4 but I'll check again - no, I don't see them.
    Thanks.

  • FM Remote stops respond

Has anyone else found this? I'll stick my Zen Touch on 'hold' stick it on my belt or in my pocket, then go to operate things using the fm remote, and often find the remote's controls seem to be held too. Not always, just sometimes. I tried turning hold off on the player, that doen'st affect the remote. I have to take the player out of the pouch, turn off hold, manually use the player buttons, then put it back on hold and back in the pouch. Then the remote seems to work for a while. I can only think that because the pouch is so badly designed and hits all the player's buttons, (a couple of carefully designed grooves in the fuzzy lining would have solved this), maybe the fm remote doesn't respond when the player is in the middle of displaying it's "Player is locked" screen while buttons are accidentally getting squeezed by the case.Anyone else find this?

Hi I know this is a late post for this thread, but perhaps some members who posted originally are still around. I'm having this problem too, what I do now is just turn on the player via the player itself and the remote starts up and works ok, but if I have the player on hold, me remote will work for a while and then often just stops responding and does not have the ability to change or effect the player itself. I then find responsi'veness is restored when I remove it from the pouch aswell....
I don't know I think there might be a thin sheet of lead or something in ter which interferes with the signals or something, it seems to work fine when not in the pouch but of course you lose the protection of the pouch then....
    Any official word on this?
I currently looking for an alternati've protecti've cover anyhow.

  • When applications stop responding and restarting doesn't help

I've trying to get into Photoshop, but while it's loading, it stops responding. I then have to force quit it. I tried to get into it many more times, but it still didn't work. I tried restarting the computer and that didn't help either. What do I do?

Did you install PS from the install disks or migrate it over from another Mac using the Migration Assitant?
If you migrated it over, try uninstalling in and reinstalling from the install disks. Some users have reported issues when they migrated PPC-coded apps over to an Intel Mac.

  • Airports using PoE stop responding after a few days.

We have several Airport Extreme Base Stations distributed throughout the district and connected to Cisco Catalyst 3560 PoE switches. These switches are providing power to our Base Stations via their PoE capabilities. The problem we're having is that after a while, these base stations will stop responding and drop off my network such that I can no longer ping them and people in the areas can no longer use them for connectivity. The way I've been able to correct this issue, so far, is to instruct the switches to remove power from the interfaces the base stations are connected to, and then reapply power. The base stations, effectively, reboot themselves and all is well for the time being.
Naturally, I don't want to keep having to reboot these base stations every time they stop responding. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this issue?
    Thank you.

    Jenks Public Schools
    Jenks, OK

    Alex,
We had similar huge problems with a large AirPort installation over two separate schools (abou 100 total). We tracked it down to newer AirPort Base Station firmware: anything later than 5.5.1 (including the new 5.7) will eventually cause the AirPort Base Station to go unresponsive. High traffic or a large number of workstations connected to the base station make the problem happen faster.
We solved this problem completely by reverting to v5.5.1 firmware everywhere. They've all been rock solid since.
We tested v5.7 firmware when it came out, but it exhibited the same problem.
Apple is aware of the problem at the highest levels of engineering and is supposedly working on a fix. Here's hoping for v5.8...

  • While upgrading iphoto database, the program stops responding.

I updated my iPhoto, but when the progam opens it says it must upgrade the iphoto library.  When I do this, it stops responding near the end of the upgrade.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

    Try repair the other one.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto stopped responding during 9.5.1 update

I installed Mavericks last night, and started making required application updates today. After installing the iphoto 9.5.1 update, I opened it up, and there was a prompt about upgrading my library, or something to that affect. When I reached step 11 of 11 in the upgrade, at 39% complete, the application stopped responding, and my laptop is stuck in the middle of the upgrade (going on 3 hours.) I know that applications can gain glitches if you force quit them in the middle of an upgrade/update/download, but I'm at a loss what to do without the risk of glitching/messing up my photo library. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a backup copy of the library made before you began the upgrade?  If so then force quit out of iPhoto and launch it again.
If you have any problems with the library quit again and try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
If all of this fails reatore the backup copy of the library and open it with iPhoto.
