ITunes 7.1 has changed how my music files are organised - why?

My preference is to store all the music on my PC underneath iTunes, thus:
My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\{artist}\{album}
I do not purchase music from the iTunes store (there hasn't been one in my country until very recently) but I do import CDs from my own collection, and also mp3 files which I obtain (legally) from other sources such as emusic.
I have had the "keep iTunes music folder organised" and "copy files to iTunes music folder" preferences checked. To avoid duplication, when I have new tracks to add to my library I move them into a 'New Imports' folder inside 'iTunes Music' and then invoke "File > Add Folder to Library" in iTunes.
Id tags in these mp3 files are not always consistent w.r.t. artist names, so I often have to select a few tracks, and edit the info so that the artist/album names are standard. When I do this the files are physically moved into the correct folder (and so I have one "Beethoven, Ludwig van" folder, rather than the dozen or so variations on that name which have been imported, and the other now-empty folders have been deleted).
So far so good - up until the latest iTunes upgrade, that is.
It appears that this version has changed the way iTunes operates, and it now uses the "Album Artist" field in preference to the "Artist" field. Actually that can't be strictly true, there must be other factors at work too: this afternoon I imported an album with 33 tracks; the album artist was empty while the artist was spelt in two different ways. I selected all the tracks in iTunes-Music and used "Get Info" to give all 33 tracks the same artist; the result moved 32 tracks into one folder (named as "artist") and left track 23 in its original folder. I then selected track 23 alone and checked the artist and album artist fields, and the result moved the other 32 tracks into the same folder as track 23 (named as "album artist").
What's going on? A "what's new in iTunes 7.1" document would probably be useful but if Apple have released one I can't find it.

iTunes keeps no memory of the previous folders things were in so no obvious way to reverse the change. iTunes shouldn't move your files about if that option isn't ticked except if you use the option File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "iTunes Media" (or you "consolidated", in which case the originals would still be in place). If it's not that then I've no idea why it did what it did. Ideally you would have a backup to recover from such a situation.
If your files are all correctly tagged with their respective genres so that it is easy to identify "audiobooks", "teaching", "study" etc. within iTunes then you could modify my script ConsolidateByMoving to move selected files to precisely where you want them.

While working on my file things get automatically deleted/moved and become non-recoverable

And when reopened the file shows the same problems/artifacts. I am using Yosemite. The file seems to corrupt itself while working on it.. even if I save it elsewhere and open it again the same thing happens.
For example I will have 3 image layers and 2 adjustment layers. The 3 images get cropped in some areas and the masks in the layers become all noisy/messy and unusable.
Is this a known issue? Any fixes?

I am using the latest version of PS CC (2014.2.1 20141014.r.257) and Yosemite 10.10.1.
What happened is I had 3 image layers (plain photos) with 2 adjustment layers on top of them. I would edit some text and after doing so the masks in the adj layers would become full of "noise" and in some of the images cropped areas would remove parts of the image. If I opened a saved version of the file the same artifacts would happen and I would need to start over.
What I did to fix the issue is just merge all of these layers together and since then no issues.

Itunes+iphone doesn't work! all files are grey!

i connect my iphone to itunes and all the files are grey!
i can't select any of the files and i cant transfer any new files.

If you have selected only sync checked music then it will sync only what is checked.
If you have it set to sync certain playlists then you can add and remove songs to the selected playlists and sync.
If you have manually managed music selected you can drag and drop.

How to: Fast save as word file (while working in word file)

I really don't like going in to the export menu all the time, but don't want to save my files as .pages (as I work in files of customers who only have Word or OpenOffice).
How to do that?

This thread comes closest to my question. I was hoping that iWork would be a good alternative to NeoOffice, which opens so slowly and constantly opens Safari, looking for another donation.
As well as needing to export each and every time, if working in a Word document, and going through that tedious process, I'm miffed that it won't save to the document's original location! If the original document is in a subfolder of the user's Documents folder, it only offers to save to Documents, or that list which might include Desktop. So, we end up with different copies/versions of the document on the system.
The app preferences are severely limited as compared to other applications. And, because we might have hit command + S, as we all have that automatic reflex, now we've got a document which also has the .pages extension. Which may also reside in a location different from the original document.
And why doesn't there appear to be a way to see the open document's complete file name, with its extension, in the window's header. I've been searching through the app's limited preferences, and the menu bar choices, without finding an option to see the whole file name. It'd be nice to know whether the open document is the one which has the .pages extension or the one which has the .doc extension.

Performance issue while working with large files.

Hello Gurus,
I have to upload about 1 million keys from a CSV file on the application server and then delete the entries from a DB table containing 18 million entries. This is causing performance problems and my programm is very slow. Which approach will be better?
1. First read all the data in the CSV and then use the delete statement?
2. Or delete each line directly after reading the key from the file?
And another program has to update about 2 million entries in a DB table containing 20 million entries. Here I also have very big performance problems(the program has been running for more the 14 hours). Which is the best way to work with such a large amount?
I tried to rewrite the program so that it will run parallel but since this program will only run once the costs of implementing a aRFC parallization are too big. Please help, maybe someone doing migration is good at this

Hi,
I would suggest, you should split the files and then process each set.
lock the table to ensure it is available all time.
After each set ,do a commit and then proceed.
This would ensure there is no break in middle and have to start again by deleteing the entries from files which are already processed.
Also make use of the sorted table and keys when deleting/updating DB.
In Delete, when multiple entries are involved , use of an internal table might be tricky as some records may be successfully deleted and some maynot.
To make sure, first get the count of records from DB that are matching in Internal table set 1
Then do the delete from DB with the Internal tabel set 1
Again check the count from DB that are matching in Internal table set 1 and see the count is zero.
This would make sure the entire records are deleted. but again may add some performance
And the goal here is to reduce the execution time.
Gurus may have a better idea..

Address book contacts imported from .cvs file are duplicated/split on sync

Contacts on my iPod are weird--there are duplicate entries for some people, but one of the duplicates contains only email addresses whereas the other has all the remaining info. Everything seems normal in Addresss Book--no duplicates, and all the info. is there. Not all of my contact entries have this this duplication/split info. problem. Those that have the problem were originally imported into Address Book from an Excel .cvs file. I also sync with a Motorola Razr and the same names were duplicated fully on the phone, with each entry having all the phone numbers that should have been synced. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?

Anyone with an answer out there??? Same thing happened to me, nothing in my address book but Yahoo is loaded and has triplicated everything.

The vi project works, the exe file no. Why?

I wrote this project to acquire data (using DAQ USB NI-6008) and to save them in a .tdm file.
It works perfectly but because I need to run that application on a pc without labview, I built the .exe file (and everything went fine!).
Can someone explain me because the stand -alone application writes a .tdm file without data?
It's not empty, but it contains no one of the time - preassure data I need.

I added what you said and I ran the vi project: no errors, everithing works fine.
So I built the exe and I tried it: after asking me to decide the filename for the report, the second time the program has to write data in the file an error task appairs.
It says that file can't be found...?!?

While working in Version 10.8.5, why does my recently downloaded backgammon crashes daily.

Backgammon Premium freezes when it signals "No possible moves found".
Currently working om 10.8.5.
Have not experienced any problems with any applications except Backgammon Premium.

If that is the only download that you find crashes, you could assume the software in that game has defective code that causes it to crash.
Not all software is well written. You could contact tthe developer of that software or, just delete it.

File, Place only works with PDF files...why?

I create documents in Mac Pages that I want to then create an interactive PDF (mainly navigation). I am using the demo copy of Indesign to see if it fits the bill.
The mac pages doocument is a fully formated and ready for export to a static PDF. As a test, I took a few pages of it and exported it to pdf, word and rtf.
The only file format that InDesign would import/place is PDF (pages, word and rtf were all grayed out and could not be selected via ID place).
I had hoped that ID would inport/place pages directly, but I cannot seem to get it to import any format other than PDF.
I tried some other .doc files (actaully created with WORD) and they were selectable but only imported the table of contents (no red arrow an lower right of text box to continue place).
Any suggestions?

ID is certainly capable of placing RTF as well as native Word files (DOC and DOCX). What you're seeing is quite unusual.
Try trashing your preferences.
For the other DOC files, you need to hold down the shift key when click the page to place them.

Word for Mac keeps locking while I'm working on the file

Hello,
I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right place.
While working in Word on Mac, the file just locks while working in the file. Once the file locks, no edits can be made and I have to copy and paste it into a new file. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anyway to fix it?

Can I get a notice when the files are downloaded by the recipient? And other issues...

The older SendNow app notifies me by email whenever I have successfully sent a file, and another email when the recipient has downloaded the file.
With Adobe Send, I get only an email notice that the recipient has "viewed my shared files" which is kind of vague. I would like to know for certain that the client has actually downloaded the file. I know that I can log into the Acrobat site and "View Full Activity" for each file transfer, but it would be great to get an email notice or a text message.
I hate to say it, but I still feel like we have taken a step backwards with this app, compared to SendNow. It is nice that the recipient can preview the file before downloading it. That seems to be the only benefit so far that I can see. But not having a memorized email address book can make the process very tedious.
Another minor frustration: Whenever I log in to the Acrobat or SendNow site, there is a box that asks if I want to 'Stay signed in'. I click it every time since this is my own private computer, but I always have to log in anyway.
When the Adobe Send app first launched, I had problems with it failing. It was VERY frustrating because the status bar would seem normal until the very end before kicking out a fail notice. It happened mostly with larger files or with multiple files. So, I would wait a long time only to have to do it all over again. the entire process would fail. For example, if I sent six large files, and only one of the files was problematic, the entire transaction failed. The app would not identify the specific failed file. Why couldn't the app allow the good files to go through? I have no idea if this is resolved, but because of this, I have only used the SendNow app.

I've recently reinstalled Snow Leopard. Since I have a clean start, I'm thinking about new ways to manage my video files for FCE editing.
Video projects take up most of the space on my HD, so I'd like to keep them on an external drive this time.
Is working on FCE projects while all the video files are saved on an external drive a bad idea? Or will this work out just fine? This way I don't have to first save them to my internal HD, finish the project, move video files to the external HD, and point FCE to where they're saved again. There just on the external HD from the start and while I'm editing the video! I can get a HD with firewire too.

T400 While working ....problem

I have T400 with XP Pro with factory defaults, I have problem, while working its giving small 'tick' sound and hanging then i can't continue my work, to reuse my laptop i should restart.
