Whirring noise started coming from my computer

Hello all,
Just recently a whirring noise has been emmited from my computer upon opening it up to use. I cannot figure out why, I rebooted and it is still there. Can anyone help with what it could be and how to fix it? Its almost like a fan motor but why would it start right off the bat when it hasnt been in use, just asleep?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give,
Michelle

So I have a bit of an update (again). I blocked the Flash ads as requested, which is nice because I don't have to look at them anymore, but otherwise does not seem to have helped.
Now, when I go into pretty much ANY website at all, the computer starts making the noise no matter what. As soon as I click a link or switch a page, it again makes the noise.
I'm beginning to despair of ever finding a cure for this, seeing as I took it to the very people who made the thing and they couldn't even identify the problem
Thanks for trying to help, though. If you've got any other suggestions, please do pass them along. Much obliged.

  • Whirring, buzzing sound coming from my computer.

    Hi all:
I have a four-year-old machine, and this buzzing sound is the same one I've gotten before when I first stick a DVD or CD in and the computer reads it. Now, however, it happens whenever I watch videos online (through Firefox or Safari) or when I go to certain websites that contain flash animation ads.
It is basically a loud (and annoying!) whirring, buzzing noise that sounds like the fan is working overdrive. If you put your hand at the back of the computer you can feel air blowing out, and if you put it underneath you can feel that the computer is actually abnormally hot.
I took it to the Apple store, they did a full scan of the hardware and said that nothing was wrong, and they also updated my system from 10.3 to 10.4.11 (Tiger). I thought that might make it better, but now it's become even worse, getting to the point where practically any website I go to sets it off at least for a few seconds, until I get out of the website and it starts to calm down again. Occasionally it goes to sleep entirely, and I have to wait a few seconds before waking it up by pressing the Spacebar.
I have Norton Antivirus and thought it might have something to do with that, so I disabled the program that automatically scans videos as they stream into your computer, but the sound is still happening.
Has anyone out there experienced this problem and dealt with it successfully? I thank you in advance for your help!

If you went without an appointment, then it would make sense that you could be turned away.

  • I have updated to Itunes v11. Now I cannot start Itunes from my computer

I  have updated to Itunes v11. Now I cannot start Itunes from my computer. I have tried clicking both on the short cut icon, the program file and the application file. The hour glass appears for a second then nothing. I have tried copying an audio disc and nothing happens.

Are you getting an error message number with your unknown error? If so, what's the error message number, please?

Do you have sound coming from the audio output port using headphones?  If so, when the plug is pulled out, is there a red light?
You may need a PRAM reset:

  • I just hooked up my computer to the tv to stream dvdd but there sound is coming from the computer not the tv. How do I fix this?

I just hooked up my computuer to the tv to stream dvds, I get the visual on the tv but the sound comes from the computer. How can I fix this?

Don't know, how did you hook it up (what kind of cable)? You can send audio through an HDMI connection provided a MacBook Pro is (I believe) from 2009 or newer.
Converting to VGA or DVI will not send audio - if you're using that kind of connection, you'll need to add an audio cable from the headphones port.
Also check the Sound Out setting in the Sounds panel of System Preferences.

  • Why is the sound coming from my computer have a lot of static (noise). ?

Product Name: HP G62-223CL Laptop Computer
    Operating System: Windows 7-64bit
    No error messages.
The Stereo Mixer - Realtek High Definition Audio produces noise (static) unless muted. Is there a way to correct this problem with software or is the audio board defective (broken)?
    This question was solved.

Thanks for your response. Called Tech support and they suggested Uninstalling the audio board driver. That worked. After booting with an updated driver the noise went away. Thanks again...gtc

  • Continual sound coming from the computer

even when the computer is idle (could have sat for 2 hours) there is a constant gurgle sound (or light tap) (no jokes please) coming out of it. i've looked at the activity monitor and a prlvlapp and kernal_task take up anywhere from 5-10% each of the CPU. any ideas on what's going on? is this normal?

The shorter and longer test both came up fine. There's still that constant drip (faint plunking sound). The pattern seems to be a 1, 2 then nothing for a few seconds and then 1 and then quiet for a little bit then 1, 2, 3 and so on. I'm sure that's the hard drive but if the computer has been sitting for awhile or is just sitting it doesn't make sense that this would be going on.

  • Why is a loud humming coming from my computer when I am playing a cd?

    as above using iTunes.

Make sure your are running the current version of Pages.
Is the noise from the CD drive or noise from the speakers? If from the Cd drive, it could be that the particular CD is not balanced properly or slightly warped. When a disc spins at fast speeds, a vibration can occur.
    Regards,

  • Electronic noise is emitted from my computer when manually dragging the vertical scroll bar with hardware accleration enabled, but no noise is emitted when scrolling any other way (ie hyperscroll via mouse wheel).

    [Firefox 4.0]
When I use my mouse button to hold and drag the vertical scrolling bar, my computer emits a soft grainy sound. However, when I hyper scroll with my mouse wheel, there is no noise.
I do not get the quiet noise with Internet Explorer. I did not get this with previous versions of Firefox.
Turning hardware acceleration off resolved this.
I'm running Windows 7 with a dedicated graphics card (GTX 285).

    amd 64=12a @12V
    ati 9800=7.5~10.5a @12V (assuming 90~125 watts) a max load,
a 9600 ir nvida 5200 used far less power
so your already at 18a with no fan,s no hd, no cd,no dvd ,no mobo chipset , no mem, no sound..etc
If you exclude the motherboard, memory, etc like you did there, the amd 64 draws 7.2A @ 12V.
90~125W for an ATI 9800?! [irony]Are you working for a PSU manufacturer or what?[/irony] That's just absurd.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it?
How do you know it's not the backlight? Have you tried shining a flashlight through the back of it?
If you have access to the hard drive via your network, it's not the logic board, and probably not your OS X installation. Suspect the inverter board, possibly, if it isn't the backlight cable, or you may need a whole new display.

  • I have a 5th generation IPod touch, and today when i turned it on everything was fine. Then suddenly the screen froze and changed colors and lines started coming from the sides of the Ipod until the reached the middle. Now it won't turn back on.

I tried restarting it by using just the power on button at first. Once that failed I held the power and home buttom for ten sconds and that didn't work. I then plugged in the ipod to see if it needed charged, and repeated the same two steps at before but to no avail. Finally, I opened up itunes and plugged my ipod in, but nothing came up. I then tried to turn it on for a third time, but nothing happened. I just confused on what happened. Could it be a bad display, or did the whole thing just die on me? Help please.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • When I plug my headphones into my MacBook Pro, and I turn the volume up, I hear the little bubble sound coming from the computer speaker. What is wrong with my computer? I don't think it's the headphones, because i've already tried two pairs.

    How can this be fixed?

    Hi DS,
Thanks for the response. Unfortunatly those documents are of no help to me. I have tried several times to boot into the AHT, which didn't work. And attempting to do an internet recovery won't even allow me to log into my wireless network, even though I know the password is correct.Let us try to go through this step by step, as I've been doing.
    1) After resetting the NVRAM it still does not see any new hard drive, and I don't need to select the old HD to boot from it. If it is in it works.
Therefore this means that it is
         a) not the SATA cable
         b) not the new hard drive because my friend got his replacement HD today and I checked them both out. They both work fine on my other friends new macbook pro.
    2) The old hard drive can boot up regularly, and the new one can be seen via the SATA to usb connector and booted from, but not via the internal SATA connector.
Also, I still can't boot into Parted Magic, or any other rescue OS I have.
This seems like a very specific problem, and it definatly wasn't anything I did. I followed troubleshooting steps like I normally do and it wasn't a clusterfuck as you so elequently stated.
Please take the time to respond to all of my questions this time, I feel like you are overlooking some very important information.
    Thanks,

  • Narration is coming from the computer for every operation performed.

All of the sudden I am getting narration from the audio on every operation performed. I also have noticed things are being highlighted by a black thin lined rectangle. In addition in my apple menu Restart, Shutdown, and Logout all have been duplicated. Is this all related? How do I turn off the narration?
Any help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks
