White 20 inch intel mac osx install problem

I'm trying to reinstall OSX Lion onto an older, 2.16 GHZ, 20 inch intel Mac. I had to reinitialize the hard drive before the install. When I try to perform the install it tells me that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. The disk was reinitialized using Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I have noticed, however, that when I select the hardrive (not the partition) in Disk Utility that the Volume Format is MS-DOS (FAT).
Any suggestions or workarounds would be appreciated.

The partition should be GUID and the Hard Drive should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
BTW it's an iMac.

Flash Player 9 mac osx install problem

For ages now I've been trying to install flash 9 on my mac (OSX latest version), and it doesnt work. I can download the installer, open it and run it. The installation works up until "4 items remaining" when the install bar starts showing grey and white stripes with a message above or below which says "searching macintosh hd". This goes on indefinitely, Ive tried leaving it for a while and eventually it just freezes. I have the similar problem on my iMac Intel Duo Core running OS X 10.4.9. The Installer told me that I don't have the access privileges to install Flash when the progress bar shows 1 item remaining (flashplayer.xtp). I tried repairing disk permission with Onyx and starting up from the OS X Install DVD but all these didn't help. I am using the correct installer (the Universal Binary one).

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!

And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.

How to install windows support software without mac OSX install cd?

I want to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 10.6.8 via bootcamp. I have a windows 7 install cd and I havn't got past the stage of installing the windows support software. I lost my mac osx install cd a long time ago so I can't install the software that way, but if i try and download the support software from bootcamp, I keep getting a notification that the windows support software is unavailable. What should I do?

Call Apple for replacement disks. The Boot Camp drivers for OSX 10.6 and earlier were not available as a download. Or upgrade to Lion, which you do download the Boot Camp 4 drivers.

Mac OSX install disc 1 won't work, it says "no bootable device" and a black screen

My macbook came already with snow leopard, so I have the osx install disc and the applications install disc. So I'm meant to put in the osx (ie install disc 1) install disc which lets me install bootcamp, which I do, and click on "start the windows installer" and "start installation" in bootcamp assistant, however every time I restart the computer to try installing bootcamp it just says in white letters across a black screen "no bootable device" and "insert boot disc", which I have already done!!
Am I missing something really dumb here, or is my disc faulty?

No, install disks are machione specific. He will have to purchase an install disk:
If you are in the US call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.

Intel Mac Mini Drawing Problems

I have an Intel Mac Mini and whenever it performs full screen operations (like iTunes full-screen visual effects or an iPhoto slide show), when it comes back, all my window's shadows are messed up. Anyone have any idea why this happens or how to fix it?

I think I have a way to reproduce this. Start a third-party app that adds an item to the menu bar (e.g., Adium or Butler) and run an application which uses OpenGL to draw on screen (e.g., some full-screen effects in iTunes or iPhoto, Blender, Q, etc.). After OpenGL is used, the window ghosting will appear around most windows (and sometimes in other places on screen).
This will not happen if the third party app that places an item in the menu bar is not running.
The question now is, how do I fix it?

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

If you attempt to install an operating system with third party peripherals attached, the installer may not have drivers for that peripheral.
If you attempt to install an operating system with bad RAM or RAM that isn't to spec, that may also cause problems.
If you attempt to install an operating system with insufficient hard disk space, or RAM, that can also be a problem.

QT7.1 Intel Mac and .AVI problems

i Downloaded a .AVI file and cant watch it. i read in a mac magazine i need DviX to watch it with. i DL that and Divx Doctor 2.
the doctor converted the AVI in to some other format. now i can hear the sound. but all i get is a white screen in QT. i get a pop up saying i am missing some components and go online to get them. but Which components are missing?!
for future DLs shouldi stick to MPEG formats to save hasstle?

No it didn't do the job. Not even close - so I'll open this one up again. It's hardly news that VideoLan is agnostic on these issues - all of us Mac people have defaulted to that player for years whenever QT has had compatibility problems - even with final public release codecs installed to enable QT to function.
Moving to another player platform is hardly a long-term solution for whatever Apple is attempting to integrate into the 7.1 - 7.1.1 series of their QT player. 7.1 was faulty; 7.1.1 doesn't sound anymore agreeable.

Nokia C5-03 and Mac OSX Lion - Problems copying files to phone in Mass Storage mode

Whenever I try to load more than one file from my iMac (early 2008, OSX Lion 10.7.2) to my new Nokia C5-03 in Mass Storage mode —since the files are MP3s and Multimedia Transfer doesn’t seem to work at all, I keep on getting asked which transfer mode I want to activate for several times, I always choose Mass Storage, and then the first file starts copying, but when it ends with the first one I have to wait for ±30s only to get asked the same again and again until the second file starts copying, and so on.
It’s driving me crazy, I’ve tried setting in the USB connectivity options not to ask me for the mode when I connect the phone, but it doesn’t work either. It still goes very slow and a lot of “USB Mass Storage transfer mode activated” messages appear.
I’ve tested it with a friend’s C5-03 and it’s still the same, but when connecting them to a Windows computer everything goes great and fast. Has somebody had this problem before? Is there a solution to this? I don’t know if this is the correct board to post this, sorry if it’s not.

-Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs
and Features in Microsoft Windows 7).
Select Nokia Ovi Suite in the list of applications and click
Change/Remove.
In the dialog that appears, choose Repair.
- Click Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and repair
-Try creating the connection between your phone and computer
totally from scratch. Start by disconnecting your phone. In
Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Options > My devices. Select
your phone at the top of the window and click Remove this
device.
Then, select Tools > Add new device, and follow the
instructions to reconnect the phone.
If this doesn't solve the problem,
-Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in
Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft
Windows 7):
Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
Nokia Ovi Suite
PC Connectivity Solution
Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi

Solaris 8 Intel 10/00 Install problem

When I boot with the Install CD (Solaris 8 Software 1/2),
in the next screen of install:
Select the type of instllation you want yo perform:
1 Solaris Interactive
2 Custom Jumpstart
After selecting one of the two options it appears the next error:
Booting kernel/unix...
do_relocate: bad strndx 3275
do_relocations:/kernel/genunix do_relocated failed
Krtld:error during initial bad/link phase
P.D Im using the Solaris 8 Intel 10/00 booting from CD.
In fact, If I use the Solaris 8 Installation CD theres is no problem on booting the kernel from the CD.

The installer could not copy the necessary support files (fresh mac OSX install

so i had to change the hard drive...
installing OSx leopard from my origanal grey disk i recived with my MBP 13..
it dont get far before it comes up with that.. ive tried useing a external CD drive thinking it may be the drive.. also tried a external hard drive thinking it was the HDD i was useing.
however, all efforts to reinstall have failed..

System discs are not found in Apple stores = Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html
Your disc drive may need cleaning. Try that.
