  • Display has white and grey lines and blocks crisscrossing it and touch functions are not working properly on half the screen.

I dropped my iPhone 5S and it landed flat on it's face (it was in a protective case).  Since then my touch screen display is not working properly. I have white and grey lines and/or blocks crisscrossing the screen both horizontally and vertically.  Screen responds to touch in odd random ways, but rarely does what I am trying to do.  Can't call or receive calls because can't dial or answer phone via swipe. Can't text or read incoming texts. All functions seem to be working except that I can't access them because the touch screen is acting up. If I move the phone around it randomly accesses different apps or functions, but I have no control over them once the appear on the screen.  Touching screen just causes phone to randomly choose something else to open.  What have I damaged?

We cannot possibly tell. Obviously some hardware inside. Take it in to an Apple Store. They will offer you the opportunity to swap the phone for $269 in the US. Prices vary by country.

  • I have white and grey line on my ipad it not working please help

my daughter was using her Ipad and it stop working white and grey line are on it now and she cannot use it at all please help

Try resetting the device. Hold down the sleep and home buttons, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.
If not and if it's still under warranty you may want to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • White screen grey apple continuous spinning wheel

I have a 2008 MacBook which after starting displays a white screen grey apple and spinning wheel
    Have reset  pram
Have tried starting holding option when the hard drive appears on screen I click on it and then the up arrow below it this takes me back to the spinning wheel with apple screen
I don't have the original CDs that came with the machine
    Any suggestions

    See this Apple note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
One step has you doing a disk repair using Disk Utility. If you don't have any OS X DVD's to boot from, perhaps you have an external bootable backup to startup and run Disk Utlity.

  • White screen, grey apple, spinning icon, and that's it.

Recently a friend of mine installed Tiger and Ilife '06 on my 12in. powerbook. Shortly thereafter, its performance became quite sluggish and often required force quitting programs which were trapped in spinning wheel mode. Just today, I had to force quit several programs. When I attempted to restart, I got a white screen with grey apple and the spinning icon. I tried restarting several times but that's all I get. I reset the PRAM as the Apple website suggested but that was fruitless. Any ideas on what the problem is before I take it in for expensive diagnosis and repair? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, how much memory do you have? When you click on the blue apple and choose about this mac, what's it say? While the Tiger specs say 256mb minimum, that only turns the lights on - you really want at least 512mb, and some would suggest even more is better. Also, how much empty disk space do you have? You want at least 10% of the total capacity to remain available for system usage.
Ensuring your disk permissions are in order and there's not a disk issue is a good suggestion.
I might run the Apple hardware test, just to ensure there's not something else, coincidentally, going on with your system. Insert the OS X DVD that came with your system, which will say "AHT Version x.x" in small print on the DVD, and reboot holding the option key down. Choose Apple hardware test and follow directions. Most likely this will not find any issues, which is good.
If memory and disk space is not an issue, and repairing permissions didn't change anything, not knowing how your friend updated you to 10.4.7, I'd download and install the combo update from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1047comboppc.html. If your friend used the software update function, sometimes the updates don't apply just exactly right.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot regularly or safe mode, getting patches of black white and grey noise on screen

It was giving me video problems at first and now has pixelated black grey and white designs popping up when I turn it on. It loaded up in safe mode the other week but now it just stays at the gray apple and spinning icon.
I am posting this from an iPhone right now so I am not sure how to attach the picture I took. I will try to upload it after.

Apple store genius bar is the place to go for a definitive diagnosis.  If it is the logic board, you may be in market for a replacement MBP.  Unless you have some emotional attachment to that particular MBP, it may not be cost effective to repair it.  (I note that yours is a pre-Unibody MBP)
If you are lucky and it is the display, you might be able to get a replacement from iFixit or Powerbook Medic for a reasonable price and do the swap yourself.
    Good luck.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro stuck on white screen/Grey apple logo

I have tried all i know to get this thing back to my desktop.
It will just sit at the White loadup screen with the progress circle spinning for hours and hours.
I've tried resetting PRAM, I've tried starting it in safe mode and neither of those worked
I inserted the original mac os x disc and held down C...spit the disk back out while displaying a "?" inside of a grey folder. Any suggestions?

    Hi c,
If you can get it to boot from the install disc again (just keep trying), run Repair Disk (and also check S.M.A.R.T. status while you're in Disk Utility).
Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).
If the HD has issues, it may be that the optical drive has issues too, and as iV stated, cleaning it would be a good start.
If the HD is good, it still could be the optical drive, but I'd also try running Apple Hardware Test from the install disc.
RAM and the logic board are also suspects.

  • Snow White and the apple

I have been an apple lover and user since 1990 and dreamed of owning my own. I always loved the quality of the hardware and the software and the development method by listening to what their customers wanted.
I eventually made my dreams come true in 2009 when I purchased my mac Pro. I then went on to purchase an iPad and an iPhone.
I found the seamless connection and updating between the platforms a genius step in the right direction.
Then something happened. The product I had been so in love with let me down. It all went wrong when Lion was released. I initially got quite excited, that was until I found that more than half of the applications I had running in Snow Leopard were not compatible with Lion. I decided to simply continue with Snow Leopard. Then I found that Snow Leopard wouldn't work with iCloud.
    What a dilemma...
Now I have found that there is an update for pages on my iPad, however to be able to transfer and use saved files on my mac I need to have Mountain Lion. So there's no point updating pages on my iPad.
I have also found that there is a serious issue with Lion, ZBrush and Wacom Cintiq.
I own other apps like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design. Around 40% are not compatible with Lion.
Therefore an upgrade to Lion right now for me would be very expensive, so I'll stick with Snow Leopard. However I can't use Pages as it should be used because the upgrade won't work in Lion. Plus I have to live without iCloud due to Snow Leopard not being compatible.
Where did it all go wrong. The company I have looked up to over the last 22 years has suddenly let me down. I'm sure there are similar discussion taking place here an elsewhere.
I feel a little like Snow White being offered the apple.
Can you advise of a way out of this hole, or am I just going to have to spend a fortune upgrading everything to work in Lion?

Some software developers seem to let bugs sit unfixed until it is time for their annual or semi-annual paid upgrade, let alone supporting new Apple technologies. Others do an amazing job at providing updates to keep their software current.
I think it is safe to say that Lion's and Mountain Lion's changes are the biggest we've seen for a long time - perhaps since the original OS X - so anyone who has kept hold of old software because it just worked is likely to find the upgrade requires more upgrades. Maybe even hardware upgrades because there are no drivers for their printers, scanners, etc.
Point 1: unless you've bought new hardware that requires Lion (or Mountain Lion) Snow Leopard is still a totally viable operating system. Eventually Apple will stop supporting it and you won't be able to use the newest browser, iTunes, etc but that is probably at least a year or two away. My FIL is still using my old Mac mini running Leopard - that's going to change soon but for his use he isn't missing a thing by not having the newest.
Point 2: by partitioning your hard drive or buying an external drive, you can keep the older OS for those programs you don't want to (or can't) upgrade yet. I did that at work a few years back because I had a fantastic scanner whose software wasn't updated for the new OS.
Point 3: some software you might think is absolutely necessary can be replaced by a less expensive or even free product.

  • My iphone 4 screen went white and shows no images.

Bought an iphone 4 in march this year and my screen is not working. Any idea on what to do in this case?

Have you dropped the phone? The white screen is generally an indication of the LCD screen going bad. Did you purchase this phone new? If so, it should still be under warranty. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar or with your Authorized Apple Service Provider, depending on where you live and have the hardware checked.

  • System shuts down when grey screen and grey Apple logo appear

My system (G4 desktop from 2000) is old enough to not support 500 GB HD's natively. So I bought a Tempo controller card that fits into a PCI slot and have used it successfully with Tiger for the past 2 years. I upgraded to Leopard and found that I can no longer boot from my primary HD. My system does have a very small HD connected to the original controller card and Leopard was installed on it just to see what would happen. The computer boots normal. But this small drive is useless since all of my data, pictures, videos are on the 500 GB drive. My accounts are on the same drive. I need to find a way to successfully boot from the 500 GB drive or be able to log on from the smaller drive but use my accounts on the 500 Gb drive.

There is a firmware upgrade for most Sonnet Tempo cards on their website. If there's firmware for your card, you'll need to boot from 10.4 (or from some other drive with just about any Mac OS X), and install the update. The installer pkg is fairly self explanatory. I would unplug those drives from the card during the update. You need to be using firmware version 2.1.2 if you have a SATA controller (use System Profiler to check after the update). Here's the link:
    Link:[http://www.sonnettech.com/support/downloads/computercards.html]
Then use disk utility to setup those drives. You could do this from 10.4 or from 10.5 (or from the 10.5 installer disk).
If all checks out, restart or re-install 10.5 and the drives should be there.
I'm assuming you have some other drive you can boot from. It could be an old IDE drive, or even a firewire drive. If not, now's a good time to make one. It's a good idea to keep something around as a spare boot drive for emergencies (like this). I keep an old IDE drive with several bootable partitions - this drive is usually unplugged. I use disk utility (from the installer CD) to "restore" a working OS onto one of the partitions - it makes a perfect copy.
    Good luck

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • PlayBook Camera White and grey stripes

    hello
i received my PlayBook today and after 4 hours use the camera has gone into nothing!!  It was working fine and all of a sudden the camera screen just goes into stripes and I can't take any pictures
    Please help

Please do the following and if it fails then you have to call support for warranty. I had the same issue and had to call them in the end.
First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.
This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.
Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.
You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
    QUICKLY choose the Update option.
This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.
