White background causes colour shift

Ran into a bit of a strange problem... am sure there's a simple explanation...
Gradient or solid colour in the blue range set at 40% transparency
1/ When placed on a blank surface (no background) looks ok
2/ When placed over an underlying white background gets a magenta tinge
Questions:
1/ Which is the true colour?
2/ What will i get when printing by offset?
3/ The following seem to be the affected / effects:
a/ CMYK Red (0, 100, 100, 0)
b/ CMYK Yellow (0, 0, 100, 0) - NO effect
c/ CMYK Green (100, 0, 100, 0)
d/ CMYK Cyan (100, 0, 0, 0)
e/ CMYK Blue (100, 100, 0, 0)
f/ CMYK Magenta (0, 100, 0, 0) - looks paler
Attaching a test file...
Edit: Here's the jpg

The question now remains is, is this just an optical illusion (meaning visible only on the screen) or is will it translate into print?
That's a very easy thing for you to test yourself, Shunith. Just print seps to a PostScript laser printer or to Adobe PDF.
If you do the latter, and then open the resulting PDF in AI, you'll find that the result is the same whether the screen display option is on or off. If you build the test file like mine, you'll also find that the C, M, Y, K filled rectangles are split into three paths each, where they overlap the white object below. Their grayscale values, however, will be the same.
You'll further find that the black text adjacent to, but not intersecting with the "translucent" rectangles is present on all four seps, but is white on all but the black sep. On each sep, the other three sets of rectangles are present as well, also filled with white.
In short, Illustrator does all kinds of "untidy" smoke-and-mirrors things when it creates PDFs and prints/exports files with transparency features (and when doing live effects like Compound Shapes). You choose to "trust" these convoluted constructs when you use such features as-is.
I would not be at all surprised if someone on AI's development staff said that the display aberation noted in this thread is by design. As I said, I neither pretend to understand, nor would necessarily agree with, the "logic" for it.

  • Is there a way to change the WHITE background color of the photo gallery/COLLECTIONS to BLACK.  IPad 4 ios 7

As a Professional Photographer, I chose to buy an IPad 4 for only one reason and that was the amazing color and clarity of the Photo Gallery as a mobile Portfolio.
Originally the background color of the IPad 4 Gallery was BLACK and this facilitated the photos greatly, photos look better and stand out better on a BLACK background. White backgrounds cause a glare eminating from the edges of the photo and cause iris in our eyes to close down, degrading the quality of the photo being viewed.
I updated to ios 7 and now my IPad 4 has a WHITE background, which is unacceptable for viewing photos.
HOW DO I CHANGE the WHITE background on the Photo/Gallery/COLLECTIONS to BLACK?
Apple should ALWAYS give USERS/OWNERS of their products control of such details. IT'S JUST GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Vancouver22  Thanks for your help... the SLIDESHOW turned black for me automatically when the slideshow began. That works most excellent!
Now if I can just get the White Background to STAY BLACK, this might not be as painful as I feared.
My IP4 does lag slightly, but not enough to set fire to it yet.
The gallery/COLLECTIONS/ALBUMS are the most important thing to me.
    Thanks!

  • Block white images over colour background

Possibly a simple question, but I can't find referance about it anywhere.
I'm trying to place a block white image of hand-drawn text (saved as a psd or/and tiff file with layers so that the surround is transparent) into indesign CS4. Placed over the top of a solid red colour. However when I do this, the image becomes transparent and invisible on the page.
I've also attempted to do this by importing a greyscale black version (in tiff format), and then converting the colour to either paper, or a white. But with no luck. This could be because indesign treats paper colour or white as transparent, but is there any way to get around this short of changing the image to bitmap and losing quality?

Should work fine with a psd file, strange... Try this:
Check if you have a clipping path into your file
    if not:
    - open you image in Photoshop
    - select all you image (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A)
    - Create a new document with transparent background (it should have the size of what you just copied)
    - go back to your first image and with the magic wand select what will be white
    - go back to the new doc,and paste
    - Save to PSD file, do not forget to tick the add layers feature, eventually remove the profile if there is one
IN Indesign, import you file. you shouldn't have to modify your image to get what you want
Other idea (kind of old-fashionned but good trick)
-make your image negative with Ctrl or Cmd + I (black text, white background), you can then flatten the whole thing
-Convert your grey image to bitmap (1bit) with Threshold 50%
    -save to tiff
In indesign, import the file, select you image unelect you rimage select it again with the white arrow then change the color to "paper" of whatever color you want.

  • White background colour in Iframe?

    Hi everyone
I hope you are able to help me with this problem I am having:
I am working with an Iframe, where I would like the
background colour to be a specific colour, relating to the colour
    next to the Iframe.
The colour sorounding the Iframe is this #E6E3D2, the
background colour of the html-page to which I am linking in the
Iframe is the same colour, but nonetheless, the Iframe keeps
providing a white frame surrounding the content-html-page.
I have tried to make the Iframe and content.html page the
exact same width, but that just give me a vertical scroller + the
    white frame.
    This is what I mean:
    http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/GD-Klubben/Example.jpg
Are there anyone out there, who can explane to me (in very
slow and easily understanding phrases ;o)) how I can get rid of the
    annoying white background colour?

No, I haven't uploaded it anywhere yet. Not before I can
    solve the problem.

  • Isolating a coloured object against Black and White background

I would like to spice up some wedding videos that I am editing. I would like to be able to convert a clip to black and white and then colour in 1 single item. For example, make a red rose against the black and white. Is this a case of like painting the rose or using a matte to isolate the already coloured rose (ie. its natural colour)?? Pretty new to AE (version 6.5, btw).

I think Mylenium meant 'Pleasantville', not 'Smallville'.
    Here's an article about this:

  • Adobe Media Encoder for AE export creates unwanted black background on load in white background

Hi. I have a seamless white website design. I added a white background to my AE file and also exported to Adobe Media Encoder with a white background, but I'm still getting a flash of black when the video loads. I have read discussions of this being a "bug" of the media encoder, but curious if anyone found a workaround. It's distracting to have the back load to black and then change to white, so I appreciate any recommendations. For now, my only idea it to re-record the video after the black flash, using a screen capture app, but this seems tedious and does not produce optimum results. Am I missing something?

    Thanks for your reply!
I tried using Quicktime with PNG and it created a big file (1.18GB for a 1 minute long clip) that doesn't play back nicely in PPro unfortunately. But I then tried rendering the clip using a lossy format, H.264, in AE and it's playing back ok in PPro! I will just do that for the rest of the clips and hope that this is finally resolved. Many thanks for the tip!
Out of curisoty, do you know what might be causing the problem when I use Media Encoder?

  • Viewing angle (with no colour shift) on new iPad much narrower than older iPads

I just got a new iPad yesterday and the new display's resolution is magical!! I am unfortunately experiencing the yellow tinted screen that others are, but I'm hopeful this will improve over a short time as any glues involved perhaps dry. I THINK perhaps it's already improved though this could be my imagination, hard to tell. It's also clear on a totally black screen that it fails to go as dark as my iPad 2, which itself failed to go as dark as my iPad 1. Still, that resolution, spectacular...
I am however also experiencing a very narrow viewing angle, especially in the vertical direction, it's the most worse when held in normal portrait orientation with the cameras at the top, if I tilt the top of the iPad away from me then the entire screen colour shifts to yellow quite strongly within about 10 degrees or so. I'll shoot some video of it at some point compared to the iPad 2. I wonder if the colour yellow could be linked to the general yellow tint that can be seen on whites even in perfectly straight viewing. But I also wonder if the new retina display just has a much narrower viewing angle without colour shift compared to the older iPads.
Would love to hear how other people's new iPad screens are performing in this regard. Are they all shifting as they're tilting, especially in that vertical tilt I described?
    Cheers

I have the same problem.  Here is the pic I took to compare with my old iPad 2.

  • Photoshop to Lightroom Colour Shift

    Hi all,
I've recently upgraded from CS5 to CC after purchasing a Nikon D7100 over christmas and thus needing the latest versions fro RAW support (Nikon NEF).
My problem is I am experiencing colour shift between Photoshop and Lightroom after upgrading. I have set Lightroom to use 16-bit ProPhoto RGB images when editing in Photoshop.  My computer is a Late 2012 MacMini with an Apple Thunderbolt Display.
I originally posted this in the Photoshop forum and have moved it over here after being recommended to do so.
The image below shows the problem, where the colour is correct in Photoshop, but not in Lightroom.
In the other thread we went through the motions and eliminated:
    D7100 Camera Raw Profile
    Lens profile
    Screen calibration and profile
It seems most likely at this point that Lightroom is applying some kind of alterations to the image settings. If I Right Click a problem image in lightroom and say "edit in photoshop with lightroom adjustments" that colours appear incorrect in photoshop, too.
Can anyone make any suggestions here?  I can't seem to get anything I shot last weekend out of lightroom with the correct colours!
    Thanks,
    Dan.

A “raw” HDR image has darks that are too dark to see detail in and lights that are too bright to see any detail in.  The process of “tone mapping” is what scrunches all the floating point values into the normal range of black to white.  Once an image is tone mapped its pixel values all fall into the range of zero to whatever the maximum value is for white in a 16-bit or 8-bit format and it can be saved as such.  The 32-bit floating point image is supposed to be temporary on the way to an 8- or 16-bit image.  Personally I save the original 32-bit image in a separate file from the tone-mapped 16- or 8-bit image so I can always go back and revisit the tone mapping operation.
LR supports 32-bit images otherwise you would see nothing.  Here is a discussion about why things look different that includes Eric Chan, an Adobe Raw Engineer, to someone bringing up a similar concern a little over a year ago:
    ttp://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_preview_of_hdr_tonemapped_i mage_doesnt_match_what_is_shown_in_photoshop_acr
It used to be that Photoshop was the only Adobe product that could open 32-bit files and tone-map them to 16- or 8-bits and I would argue that it did an unsatisfying job.  Eventually this capability was added to LR and the ACR plug-in for Photoshop which does a better job, but being raw converters, the starting point looks brighter on screen.
Photomatix is a payfor product that also does a good job with both merging and tone-mapping to 16- or 8-bits.  It comes with both a standalone and a plug-in interface.  There are others, but Photomatix is the one I’ve tried in the past.

  • How do you Whiten an off-white background in PSE (pic of a person with a shadow)?

I have PSE10 on my PC. I use it to edit photos I take of people in a studio set up with a white background and white vinyl on the floor.
Currently I whiten the BG and floor by, 1) using a Levels layer (to darken the image) and then 2) apply the Dodge tool (set to highlights) to the original image.
It is good (a bit time consuming) but when I get to the shadow of a person I don't know how to edit the shadow of the person. If I leave the shadow alone, the photo then looks odd!! Currently I use the Dodge tool (set to Shadows at about 75%) and go over the shadow to lighten it a bit which seems okay but I wanted a method from someone that was familiar with editing studio pics of people...ideally something that was a guided/automatic edit but any manual method would do.
    2 examples I have seen thus far are;
Using Curves in CS to whiten the background (which is quick and easy and automatically lightens the shadows of the subject to provide a natural look) but only 'Colour' Curves is available in PSE and I am not sure if this will do the same job?
Using Set White Point in Levels and then use the mask and paint brush to paint the subject back in but I am not sure of every step and don’t know how well this works and if it is of any use when it come to the shadow of a person?
Please provide a step by step guide on your method of doing this.
    Thanks in advance :-)

    Have you tried Enhance...Adjust Lighting...Shadows/Highlights?

  • White background around graphics shows as a blue tint ...

The white background around graphics that contain a drop shadow, shows as a blue tinted region only when printing as a pdf/pdf-x file to color laser printers. Ink jet printers print the page correctly. Since I work in a pc environment, I save pages files as pdf or pdf-x onto a flash drive. When I open the file on a pc in acrobat reader, it shows the white background. The color laser is an HP Color Laserjet 2550PS. I'd like to include the drop shadows and print to the laser, since the inkjets are being phased out.
Any suggestions about the cause or solution to this problem?

  • Blank white background (no underlying grid) so i can remove grey lines

i am sure this has come up before but i wasn't sure how to search for an answer.
when i leave my spreadsheet alone for awhile it seems like the spreadsheet will show with a blank white background - no grey lines showing the underlying grid - and this view has let me see that there are some cells where i /accidentally/ have thin grey lines where they shouldn't be (it should just be blank). the problem is that if i click in the spreadsheet it automatically shows the grey /underlying/ grid and then i cannot see the thin lines.
is there a way to get rid of the underlying grid temporarily so that i can get rid of these?
i looked in the View pulldown and i don't think i saw anything appropriate.
    thank you

  • Off-white backgrounds

    Hi
Just lately, the last few months when I start to record something in Captivate 4 everything seems fine, i look at the source code and its fine.  White backgrounds, the mouse moving along etc.
When i publish/preview the course the backgrounds are an off-grey colour instead of pure white.  The mouse moves along but the second it clicks i get a white horizontal line.  Same for text being typed, the background is grey, then theres a horizontal block all the way across the screen where the text animation plays.
I could export every background graphic, make it pure white, or delete the strange mouse animations and try to add them but obviously that'll take some time.
Anyone else come across this ?  Recording where theres lots of white screens and then when you publish it its off grey ?
    Any ideas ?
    Regards

    Hi there
If this is full motion capture, perhaps change the setting to 32 bit? (Edit > Preferences > Recording > Full Motion Recording
Or if it's not Full Motion Recording, perhaps select the slides in question, right-click them and change the Video Quality.
