White balance feature in Photoshop CS4?

Is there a white balance feature in Photoshop CS4 [like in Lightroom]?

WB is a bit of misnomer... what your fiddling with is temperature. And it's not always in balance or using white (what is white in higher dynamic range images anyway?).
To be honest I find the wb approach a bit cludgy in PS and far prefer to look at it in ACR if I can.
Curves in LAB has th best response for me to correct colour casts... the colour balance tool in RGB is really doesn't live up to its name...as per the photo filters that dont. As ACR shows, you cant just slap orange over an image and say its warmer.

  • Are the web features in Photoshop CS4 worth the upgrade?

I'm not a high-end user of Photoshop, but will soon start using it to create graphics to be plugged into Portal. I'll be purchasing the web design package (I'll need Dreamweaver and Flash in the not-too-distant future), and am wondering if there are enough improvements to Photoshop's web features to justify going with the Premium edition.
Also, for casual users of Illustrator -- do you think CS4 is worth the upgrade? Having multiple artboards sounds tempting, but is there more?
    Thanks!

  • Is there an Image Ready feature in Photoshop CS4?

Is ImageReady no longer a part of the tool panel?

Is there an easy way to find all of those features?
    Different question--I want to splice.
And I read that Photoshop is not the best software for us to do that work
in because it dumps all kinds of unnecessary code
into the file and thereby increases its page loading time?
    What say you?
And are you aware of a quick, cheap and easy solution if you agree?
    Thanks,

  • Complaint: Animated GIF, Photoshop CS4

I am a freelance print designer. Needless to say that I have upgraded to the Design Standard Edition of the Creative Suite 4. Still, some customers ask me to do their web banners, too.
    Fact 1:
There is an animation palette in Photoshop CS4 Standard.
    Fact 2:
You can create animations with that palette.
    Fact 3:
You can save the animation as an animated GIF.
    Fact 4:
Opening the animated GIF, you only get the first frame, so you cannot edit the animation or content inside the GIF.
    Fact 5:
I need to alter a few animated GIFs which I created several years ago using Photoshop CS2. Due to a harddrive crash, I don't have access to the original layered PSD files any more.
    Fact 5:
Photoshop CS4, the most advanced image editing tool on the face of the earth, is absolutely useless at this point, and I have to find freeware or shareware to do the job. Finding and purchasing this sort of software is MY time, and that is MY money.
Whatever drove Adobe to cripple Photoshop CS4 Standard, whatever drove them to expel the simple "Open Animated GIF" feature from Photoshop CS4, it was the wrong decision.
This, Adobe, is a customer complaint. Take it serious. There is competition, and I hear a lot about GIMP these days.
    Frustrated,
    Gero

I know this thread is getting on a bit now, but I do have the answers.
Quite simply, as far as I can tell, this cannot be done without Quicktime installed.
To open an animated gif in CS4 on a PC:
    1. Go to File->Import->Video Frames to Layers
    2. In the File Name box type “*” ( or you can type the name manually) The window will now show every type of file
    3. Select your gif and you are done
To open animated gif in CS4 on a MAC:
    1.  Go to open, select your GIF, then in the bottom left corner of the open file dialogue box select Quicktime Movie as the format, then open your GIF.
    2.  You’ll need to open your animations window by going to window -> animation. This will bring up the time line.
    3.  If you want to have all of the frames broken up into layers, click the options in the animation window, and select “Flatten Frames into Layers”.
This will give you access to all the frames as layers and you can now edit the GIF as though it was a movie.
I hope this helps to ease somebody's frustration.

  • Loss of white balance correction

I just returned from a dive trip. In addition to cropping, adjusting the exposure and cropping, I use the white balance feature to correct the color of photos taken without a flash at depth. I uploaded my cards to my MacBook Pro (both the laptop and my Mac Pro are running Aperture 2.1.3), and edited these images. When I got home, I exported the project (like I always do), and imported it into my main Aperture library on my Mac Pro.
When I review these images, the color-corrected previews are seen in the Browser. When I click on an image, the color-corrected preview is shown in full size on my second, 30" Cinema Display while the RAW image is loading. However, once the full image is loaded, the white balance reverts to the original - but the levels and cropping are maintained! I can re-do the white balance correction, but once I quit and restart Aperture again, the white balance correction is again lost - but not my other edits! Thus, not only were the white balance corrections done on my laptop lost when I exported/imported the project, the repeat corrections done on my MacPro are lost when I quit and restart Aperture.
Curiously, after I've re-done the white balance on several images and quit, when I restart Aperture there is no indication that there are any images or projects that haven't been backed up in a vault.
This has never happened before when I would import a project; the last time I successfully imported a project with all of its adjustments maintained was February (I don't recall when 2.1.3 came out). I've searched this forum to no avail; has anyone else experienced this?

I've the x-rite passport and I can say only a thing:
Color correction seems to be an opinion!
With Aperture (and Canon RAW) with only white balance you will get an image very very close to the result with x-rite calibrated DNG and Adobe Camera Raw, but...
In both case Colors are very outside of reality!
Adobe Camera RAW and Canon DPP give other different "crazy opinion" on blues reds and greens, and the only program that I found go very closer to reality seems to be CaptureOne.
In my tests I've used two 5600°K Bowens lights to take a photo of x-rite passport and I've tried to compare it with the official datasheets from xrite:
    http://xritephoto.com/phproductoverview.aspx?ID=1257&Action=Support&SupportID=5159
Seems very difficult to get real colors from the same RAW file, and every software give a personal opinion from the same data (?!)

  • Iphoto not recognizing my preset manual white balance setting on my Nikon D3100

    hi there.
i've been using iPhoto to edit my photos uploaded as RAW, from my Nikon D3100.  While i've been very satisfied with the results, i've run across a small problem.  i've used various white balance settings on my camera:  incandescent, flourescent, auto white balance, and recently started using the manual white balance.  when uploading pictures to iphoto, the photo has indicated what white balance setting i have used, except when i use my manual white balance feature, the information shows up as AWB (automatic white balance).
can somebody please explain to me why this is?  any other setting i use shows up with the appropriate icon, according to what i choos on my camera.  is this a glitch?  what is the manual white balance setting icon supposed to look like in iPhoto?
Again, I shoot in RAW, and upload directly to iPhoto successfully, as RAW.

I think this article will help explain this
    and this one from Adobe
    — Raw files have not had while balance set. They are tagged with whatever the camera's setting was, (either that which was manually set or via auto-white-balance), but the actual data has not been changed. This allows one to set any colour temperature and white balance one wishes after the fact with no image degradation. It should be understood that once the file has been converted from the linear space and has had a gamma curve applied (such as in a JPG) white balance can no longer be properly done.
So the displaed WB is simply a tag and has no effect on the image - it is simply information about the camera settings

  • Canon XHA1S white balance

Hello all.Is there a way for me to do an auto white balance that shows up on the LCD screen showing me what color temperature the sensor picked? That way I can check to make sure that I manually adjust the color temperature close to what the XHA1S buildt in meter read.I do'nt have the money for a color temperature meter.I can't find any stores that sell color temperature charts.Thank you.

Wayalive, Unfortunately no, I have as yet found no solution.
I'm still hoping that the issue can be resolved, but we have to keep it alive and not accept that LR/ACR will not handle white balance correctly for CR2 files.
My specific dilemma is that using white balance cards along with IR does not produce the same results as the proper handling of the white balance stored with the image. Specifically, I'm usually setting my white balance to a color such as the green of the leaves in a specific picture so as to produce a unique result. Attempting this using the custom white balance feature of Camera Raw against a CR2 file produces a vastly inferior result. It's the unique element of having both red and in this case green be treated as white that gives the false color images from the camera their specific appeal. This trick is the foundation of false color IR image creation where you trick the camera's internal software into producing what it thinks is a proper color image. Having ACR muck it all up after the fact is a big problem.
Post processing can, with a lot of effort, come close but this is an unacceptable penalty for using a camera and format that is stated to be supported.
    Don Solomon,
Thanks for the info on LightZone, I'll look into giving that a try and see if it can clear up my issues as well.

  • Imac G5 and Photoshop CS4

Hello. I have an imac G5, about 3 years old. I've recently installed Adobe CS4 and found that in order to utilize all the features in Photoshop CS4 Extended, I have to update my video card. Though pretty good at using a MAC, I have no idea where to start looking and what exactly I would ask for. Can anyone help? Thanks much.

I'm afraid your options are limited to buying a new machine with a more powerful card. iMac G5s have never been expandable, with the exception of putting in a larger drive and maxing out the memory, nothing else can be changed.

  • How to white balance

Is there a way to quickly white balance pictures in photoshop? I know with other products you can click on something that is white or gray in the photo and it will automatically white balance the photo.

Make sure your eye dropper options are 3 x 3 or bigger. Then go to layer... new adjustment layer... curves. You'll see a shadow, mid tone and highlight eye dropper for setting those points.

  • Huge Delay in Photoshop CS4 features

Hey. I've download Photoshop CS4 and running it in trial mode. When I use the brush tool for example, the delay in it actually printing on the paper after I click and drag is like 1-2 seconds. I have a pretty good PC, 2.4ghz @ quad.
    Any ideas?

uncheck advanced drawing in the gpu enable advanced features.
you may also want to turn of 'show overlay' and clipping in the clone stamp feature if you use that often and notice a delay.

    Hi Christie!
Actually the thing is that when we are so eager about designing and start using PS then it's hard to tell that what tool we use the most and what tool we like the most to use! Besides my personnal opinion is to use Lasso tool would be my favorite

  • How do I automate White Balance in CS4?

Ok, I use the Dave Cross method in CS4 to find my color balance... I use a 50% grey layer, blend set to "difference"  then use the threshold and levels layers etc...  I want to automate this color balance setting to fit a large batch because it takes forever to do it one at a time. the problem is my color picker just picks the same spot on each image and the gray is not stationary.  Can this be done easier?

I can tell you how to display it; I haven't set out to find out what the numbers mean, although that would be pretty easy to do.
Select the Metadata Tab. At the pop-up in the top left select "List-Expanded." Then select from the Gear pop-up in the upper right "Edit List-Expanded." A whole set of options will appear, including White Balance. Check the box and it will be added to the List-Expanded.

  • White balance in photoshop cc

I only get auto, custom and as shot in choices of white balance in photoshop cc.  I don't know why.

Is this with a RAW file, and if so, what camera was it taken with?
[EDIT]  Please always give as much information as possible when asking questions.

  • What features have been deprecated for Photoshop CS4?

    Hi,
What features have been deprecated for Photoshop CS4?
I am taking a class and part of the homework was to use the pattern maker.  I searched every drop down menu looking
for something that was removed from the standard install.  Eventually I located the plug in and pattern maker is working,
however I am wondering what else was removed.
    Thanks,
    ak

I think pattern maker was removed in CS3 from my memory. In CS4 Extract and Contact Sheet were also removed. These are still accessible by installing the plug ins from previous versions
Exactly WHY they are removing these things from the standard install? because there are certain portions of the development staff that are becoming obsessed with what they are calling "bloat'. There was a brief period (Photoshop 6 to 7) when certain "New Features" like Extract and Pattern maker were introduced, looked like some kind of sideline - they honestly were not put together, or thought through very well. So now they are removing them.

  • Undocumented Feature of the White Balance Tool!

I have not been able to find any documentation on this, at least not in the User Manual nor in the Image Adjustments Manual.
We all wanted to be able to click in multiple areas before leaving the white balance tool in case we clciked on the wrong spot.
    Well Apple went one better.
Instead of multiple clicking, just continue to hold the mouse button down and aperture will white balance on the fly!!! Dang. I particularly like using it with the locked down loupe.

Where can i make the paypal donation, lol!!<</div>
    I only wish!!!
    You're welcome
