White Balance Getting Changed on Import

I don't know when this started happening or if i accidentally changed something to make it start happening but it's driving me crazy.
When I import images from my Canon 5D the thumbnails look fine but as soon as i open one up the white balance changes and makes the image very warm. I notice that it has been changed to custom. If i select As Shot it snaps it back to the way it was shot and things look great.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks for the help.

  • Filename doesn't get changed when importing (sometimes)

    I have the following Problem:
When I import a directory of mp3 files (an album), then some filenames (1-2) don't get changed (there are correct id3 tags). Lets say I have the first song called first song, the original filename is first_song.mp3. After importing the song is in the correct directory but not changed. It should be something like: 01 first song.mp3. When I edid the id3 tag to lets say first songe the file gets changed.
What could be the problem? Itunes bug?

Actually the problem seems to be resolved. I have a fully updated system and installed xfce again few days ago. And it works miraculously..
    Installed versions:
    1. xfce4-mixer 4.10.0
    2. Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.9.3-1-ARCH

Wow, actually it now works for me, too! Amazing!

  • LR4 White balance tool changes to magnifying glass

I just upgrade to LR 4.  However  in the develop module, whenever I choose my white balance tool and then hover over the image it changes to the magnifying glass.  If I click, all it does is zoom in and out.  The circle where the WB tool lives, is blank like it usually is when the tool is selected.
I've checked for stuck keys and still have same result.
    Win 7 pro x64

hmm.. I posted on here. Left LR open and did some other stuff for a while.  Came back to color correct WB tool-less and vola all of a sudden it's working.  we'll see for how long

  • White Balance - batch changes

Looking for a way to change White Balance to groups of shots all at one time.
Shoot a gray card, put it away, take 2 or 20 shots, move on and repeat till the day is done.
Later when doing initial adjustments I want to apply the same WB to a particular group, several groups would mean several different WB readings. I now do it manually 1 shot at a time, it only takes a moment per shot but there must be an easier way.
    Thanks Mike

After selecting the right WB for the first picture of the group, use the lift tool, then select the rest of the group and use the stamp tool.

  • Is there anyway of overriding the d700 white balance fine tuning when importing to lightroom?

I have imported a large number of my raw photos from my d700 into lightroom.  The white balance fine tuning setting was b4 creating a blue bias which I would like to remove.  When I copy directly from the camera to my iPad there is no bias and the photos look good however once I import into either lightroom or photoshop I must adjust each photo to remove the bias.  There must be a better way.

My suggestion would be for you to adjust the white balance to your satisfaction along with any other adjustments that you think are consistently out of line with what you want. Then, create new defaults for that camera.

  • Mavericks: white balance changes when video plays

    Hi There,
I have an issue that whenever video is playing (YouTube, Vimeo, Final Cut, Premier Pro) my monitor's white balance will change to a cooler temperature after 2 or 3 seconds.
But weirdly, only the white balance on the video changes - nothing else on screen changes - setup is:
    15" MBP Retina
    NVIDIA Descret graphics
    Dell U2713H
I initially had to run a few terminal commands to force the MBP to recognice the Dell as a monitor (http://embdev.net/topic/284710#3567172) so don't know if this is part of the issue?
But this doesn't happen with the monitor at home - same MBP and monitor model.
I can't work out of this is the monitor, video card or the OS that's doing this - has anyone else seen this?
    CHeers
    Ben

I'd checked several settings on the Dell but just found another one: "Smart Movie Enhance" - turning this off fixed the issue.
    >Menu >Display Settings >Smart Video Enhance> Off
It seems professional monitors are becoming more like TVs - after turnning off all the picture enhancing tech on our new Sony TV, movies finally looked cinematic and not like 90s video!

  • Creative Ultra for Notebook, white balance not working??

After years of use with my Creative Notebook Cam Pro I decided to upgrade and get the Ultra for Notebook because it's a CCD and works better in lower light conditions.
The drivers install fine however I cannot adjust the white balance nothing changes when I click apply. I have both 98SE and XP drivers installed and it appears that the bug is present in both sets of drivers.
This is a big disappointment because using this cam indoor with artificial lighting is next to being useless. Furthermore there's no saturation controls included in the drivers so I couldn't reduce the colour to b/w even if I wanted to.
As a product that's been on the market for nearly 2 years I'm surprised that no bug fixes have been issued for this problem I'm sure it's been mentioned before here?
Does anyone know if CLabs will fix the problem soon because as it stands this product isn't worthy of my time or money.
    Richard S.

It should be directly underneath the image preview - press the T key if it's not there.

  • White balance issues after ProKit Update 5.1

After the new ProKit 5.1 update I get a new reprocess block. When I reprocess the image the white balance gets messed up. The Tint sliders go to 50. The white balance presets are all off too. Is anyone else having issue?

This is frustrating me too. Some things I've discovered:
Reprocessing photos tagged with the 1.0 to 1.1 which required reprocessing caused most of the issues. The auto-converted photos would go from 5200K temp, -1 tint or similar to having a wierd tint. However, using a tint around 90 (off the range the tint slider can be adjusted to. Similarly, using the dropper to select a whitepoint results in these out of range tints. However, the tint looked OK, it's just out of the range you can slide it to.
I tried the deletion of the Raw decode plist and that didn't fix things.
Also of note, I have a selection of images with each of my camera's whitepoint settings (a Canon 30d as it happens). If I reprocess each, select the whitepoint brick to enable it and press reset, I get back the whitepoint which was interpretted from the RAW (and hence the cameras whitepoint setting). These also leap from say ~5200K daylight -1 tint (if I recall correctly) to having offscale tints. This suggests there's a new range at play for RAW 3?
Incredibly frustrating. If anyone has any reasonable fixes, I'd love to hear about them, or preferably could we have an update from Apple which resolves the issue.
I understand that reprocessing can cause small shifts, but my photos which have not been heavily adjusted look totally wrong when reprocessed. For now I will not be reprocessing anything until there's a fix.
Also of note, it looks like way back I locked my default raw processor to 1.0 or 1.1. That may have caused issues. I have since reset the camera defaults to the reset RAW processing defaults for 3. I'll try importing some stuff from camera tonight and see what it does.

  • Question about stamping white balance

    Hello,
I'm a beginner in Aperture and have the following question for which I haven't found an answer yet.
Let me explain what I did and where the problem rose:
I have a set of photo's (400+, RAW), all taken at the same location under nearly same conditions (oldtimer rally, outside, sunny weather).
I've adjusted the first image by choosing:
    Exposure: 'auto'
    White balance: 'auto'
White balance was changed by Aperture in (in the Inspector): Temperature & Tint and for both a specific value.
I changed the second image the same way.
Again Aperture choose Temperature & Tint for white balance and specific, but other, values than for the first image.
    Fine sofar.
I lifted the adjustments of the second image:
    Adjustments:
White balance : Auto White Balance
    Exposure : Auto Exposure
Deselected everything but Adjustments for White balance and Exposure.
Selected image 3 until the last one and stamped them.
80% of the image's OK but for about 20% of the photo's, Aperture came up (in the Inspector) with "White balance: natural gray".
So I thought to be smart and changed one photo (White balance : natural gray) to Temperature & Tint.
    Photo adjusted: OK.
If I lift the adjustments of this photo, Aperture shows:
    Adjustments:
    White balance : Temperature (4851.60), Tint (10.68)
    Exposure : Auto Exposure
If I select this and use it to stamp all "White balance: natural gray" photo's, I have the problem that the 'stamp' also stamps the temperature and tint values where I want it, of course, to 'auto detect' these values as they are not the same for each photo for the best result.
    Any solution for this?
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

  • N8 white balance

Hi, I bought my Nokia N8 two days ago and have noticed that when i view the screen from an angle the background colours and white text on the home screen look really crisp but when viewed from front on it has a sort of cream look to it like the white balance has changed  (kind of like changing the wb on your tv from cool to warm but a bit more subtle).
Is this normal or is there a problem with the display. I havent seen another n8 so not sure if all of them are the same it just looks less vivid when viewing from straight on.
Also i have the problem where the blacks look more like red but i know there's already a thread for this issue.

Dude that white balance thing is normal.Even in my phone some white looks clearer if i see it from an angle. But mind you thats only white other colors appear vivid from all angle. To check the display do this.
1.Carefully look at the anologe screen saver you will see the upper part appear slightly red.Check it after pressing the menu key.
2.Download this images and check. In that blue pic i have marked. In that area you will see a black line as if the color transtion is not smooth.Download the pic in pc and phone so that you can see the difference in that marked area.
3.The last bar appears red in that gradient pics.

Are you saying you've lost the "Basic" tool tab?
If yes, just right-click on one of the other tabs and select "Basic" from the context menu that's presented.

Your basic panel must have been accidentally deselected.
Simply right-click on one of the other panels e.g. Tone Curve and choose basic again - see image below.
You can also select solo mode, if you prefer to work in one panel at a time with the others collapsing automatically when you click on another tab.

  • Lightroom Changes RAW White Balance Upon Import?

    Hi All,
I'm new to Lightroom so bear with me. My problem lies in the import process: each time I import, a yellow tint (tungsten WB) is added to each photo, as if the white balance is being changed. I know that thumbnails are created in camera, but the photos look fine when Lightroom is "loading" them on the library screen, it is only when the "loading" message goes away that they look too yellow. I don't want to apply an import preset because I fear that each photo's problem is unique. When I use quicklook in finder, the images look fine. When I export as a jpeg from LR, the problem persists. Here's what I'm using:
Camera: Canon T2i (Color Space: sRGB)
    Lightroom: Version 4.0
    Computer: Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard
I've read that this could be caused by a corrupt color profile, but I'm not sure how to change this on a Mac and if it's appropriate to apply sRGB as a monitor profile.
    Any help is appreciated!!

The initial preview is the camera generated JPEG (should match the LCD). Then LR builds it’s own high quality previews based on it’s engine. Hence the difference. Ignore the original OR if you really like it, try making a preset for importing the images that honor that rendering. Bottom line, the initial previews are not any reality to what LR is going to initially produce based on all those sliders.

  • White Balance jpg Importing Issue

In Lightroom 1.2 I'm having a white balance issue after importing jpg's from my hard drive into LR. I noticed the issue after I did my jpg selection in Windows XP using the MS Picture Viewer to delete bad jpg's before I import the good jpg's into Lightroom. The white balance was way of balance using the LR "As Shot" WB as compared to MS Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. A custom WB of -31 in LR equals the WB of jpg as viewed in the Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. All 289 jpgs were affected. I also re-imported the jpg's into other new catalogs with the same results.
I do not have any presets selected for importing. I don't think I made any setting changes, I checked the settings and did not see anything out of the ordinary. I also did a "repair" re-install of Lightroom just in case a module got corrupted. The jpg's were from a Canon 20D. In the past week I was doing a lot of RAW prior to this importing the jpg's. The jpg's were imported into a brand new catalog and the PC was booted up prior to the importing. I never had this problem before with jpg's. Lately I have been getting catalog errors, settings that reset themselves, crops that uncrop themselves and photos that won't remove after I remove them while doing development of Raw photos. I have Lightroom installed on my local "C" Drive and the LR Catalogs are on my local "E" Drive.
    thanks
    Vince

    >Is MS Picture Viewer a colour managed application? I don't know, but don't think so. Lightroom is however which might be the cause of your problems.
Not in XP. In vista it is color managed. From the sound of it, the problem is a bad monitor profile but you might also have a corrupt Lightroom database. You need to recalibrate the monitor and NEVER use canned profiles from the monitor manufacturer. They are almost always corrupt. As a very last resort, you can use sRGB as the monitor profile (delete any profile found in the windows display properties) but only to hold you over until you can really calibrate it. The other problems with weird errors are pretty worrisome though. Do you also get them when you start a fresh catalog?
