White balance setup error on multi-camera shoot. Help!

On a three-camera shoot two cameras had white balance set to auto, one was misset to daylight. Footage was shot both exterior and interior. How do we (newbies) correct or minimize the damage in Premier Pro CS6 for this short class project if reshooting is not an option?

  • Multi-camera shoot.. having import issues, could use some work flow advice

Okay, so I am doing some multi camera shoots. I have 2 Canon HV20's and 1 Canon HG10. The HV20's are being captured at HDV 1080i setting (1440x1080), and the HG10 is being logged and transferred coming in at it's different setting, (can't remember off hand what it is)
I am syncing these 3 with "in points", however becasue the HG10 is a different format I can not use it to do a Multiclip with, I have been using QT to convert it to HDV 1080i, but a 60 minute record seesion is taking 7 hours for the convert.
is there an easier way to get the AVCHD data from the HG10 to match the captured info from the HV20 tapes, or os there a setting to tell FCP that the multiclip doesn't need to use the same settings?
Or does someone have a better workflow I could use...?? I understand that just buying anothe HV20 would solve the problem, but I can't afford that right now, so I'm etiehr stuck only shooting with 2 cameras or wasting the time of converting to use the 3rd different format camera..
I could use some help or advice, thanks
also, I haven't been able to set my capture in's and out's and do a batch capture with the HV20's... I keep having to "capture now" to get the footage, I always get an error as soon as I tell the batch capture to start

The simple most direct route is to dub (or convert) your odd camera to the base camera's format (or convert everything to a single format). It's not a waste of time at all; simple and immediate and solves everything.

  • Multi cam shoot using  P2 cards. How to move clis to timecode positions

multi cam shoot using P2 cards. How to move clis to timecode positions. We were using free TC. I want to a large # of clips from both cams. and have them move to the correct TC position on the timline. In Nuendo eith audio u hit apple a or ctrl a right click move to orgin. Avid will take care of it for u. FCP???

If you read the "Apple Pro Training Sereis; Final Cut Pro 5" book, it's very easy. You can sync the clips manually by setting In or Out points, specifying TC, or using one of the two Aux TC fields. Since this is the first, and most basic step in doing Multiclip editing, I'd suggest you get the book, or read the appropriate section of the User Manual. I don't think anyone wants to post a full "how to" article in a forum.
It can be done, you're clips have to all have been recorded with synced TC, or they simply won't sync up in any NLE. Read the book. Cause even if I did have the time to explain FCP's Multiclip editing in this forum, you'd still have questions that are in the book.
If you actually walk through the first steps of building a Multiclip to edit, it's blatatnly obvious in the first step. I'd give it a try first.
Problem is the DVCPRO-HD codec is going to require a higher end Mac with tons of RAM and either RAID, or internal drives to do a DVCPRO-HD Multiclip, as DVCPRO-HD (P2) is a pretty high bandwidth codec. I use it daily, I know, it takes horsepower to do.

  • Editing A Multi Camera Shoot

Can someone point me to a nice tutorial on how to set up my multi camera shoot files so that I can do a mock "live switch" on my FCP? I am tinkering with the "Make Multi Clip" set up, but I just can't seem to figure out how to view the three cameras, make camera angle selections, etc.
    Thanks,

its not as hard as it may at first appear Pete
    1. open each of your 3 clips in the viewer and mark an In point on an easily identified frame (clapper, camera flash, blink etc)
    2. select the 3 clips in the browser and choose Modify menu > Make Multicip
    3. in the multiclip window's popup menu tell it to sync on In point and click OK
    4. drag the multiclip you just made ( the clip with its name in italics )
    5. set the View menu > Playhead Sync > Open
thats it ... now you should see your 3 clips displaying simultaneously in a 4 up display in the viewer

  • Coodinating Colors in Multi-Camera Shoots

I sometimes use three video cameras on a shoot: a Canon 5D II, 5D III and Sony HXR NX5U.  I white balance each camera at the exact same spot and same lighting conditions immediately before the shoot.  The video clips that are subsequently produced don't seem to match from a white balance perspective.  The two Canon cameras are fairly close but the Sony requires quite a bit of work in post in the Fast Color Corrector and 3 Way Color Corrector to get it close to the others from a white balance or color perspective.  Of course when you are doing Multi-camera video of a person speaking at a podium, the colors have to match as you switch from camera to camera.
I am very familiar with the tools in Photoshop which allow you to match colors Picture-to-picture.  One technique is to use the eyedropper in one picture to get an R-G-B reading and then recreate those settings in other pictures.  My question is: are there such tools in Premiere Pro which would allow me to take a reading in one clip and reproduce that reading in another clip, by the numbers?  I say "by the numbers" because presently, I'm simply eyeballing it and by doing so am spending a lot of time and not getting that close.

It would be nice, spectacular really, to have a full sync system in PPro. By that I mean a compact and easy way to sync  various video feeds temporally, and with audio, and with color. And with anything else that needs syncing. Right now we are missing pieces (like color) and the pieces we have are scattered around. We need a nice central place to do this -- Prelude maybe? IDK.
As far as color goes, it's high time Adobe gave us a way to color sync to standard charts. It would be nice to be able to step beyond mere custom white balance to a full color balance. Instead of shooting a gray card, why not shoot a Macbeth Colorchecker chart? then have PPro analyze the chart and apply the needed color corrections to "true up" the video feed's colors? This would save a huge amount of time in post, and would therefore be a huge value add.
If Adobe doesn't want to do this, how about a third party plug-in? For that matter, are there any already on the market that do anything like this?

Is there any way to get detailed info of White Balance setting in Bridge Metadata ?  I'm getting only "custom" ; my instructor in College needs more detailed data in my contact sheets.
    Thanks for any imput
You can't get this info in a contact sheet, neither is it easy to get other then look at the camera setting you have used to shoot the files. Maybe it is somewhere hidden deep down in the exif data but I can't find it with exact numbers.
Shooting Raw those WB figures are irrelevant because you can set color temperature and tint to whatever you like. Shooting jpeg your options are limited because of the fact the Raw data is already processed and changing temperature and tint effects the whole image.
Try shoot a Raw and jpeg together from the same scene. One with daylight and one with artificial light conditions. (personally I have set my WB in camera fixed at 5500 but with auto settings you can also see the difference) Try to correct the jpeg and the Raw file in ACR and see what I mean.
And to be honest, if your instructor at College would like to have this he also should tell you why he wants it and how you can deliver it...

  • How do I get white balance settings for my Olympus cameras in Aperture?

I have an E-500 and E-510. I was able to figure out from previous posts how to get the white balance listing in the metadata. The information it provides is a 0 or a 1. My sense is that the 0 could represent the auto white balance setting and the 1 any other setting. I have 7 possible settings for white balance on my camera. Is it possible to get specific white balance settings listed in the metadata for my cameras. Thank you for any help.

I can tell you how to display it; I haven't set out to find out what the numbers mean, although that would be pretty easy to do.
Select the Metadata Tab. At the pop-up in the top left select "List-Expanded." Then select from the Gear pop-up in the upper right "Edit List-Expanded." A whole set of options will appear, including White Balance. Check the box and it will be added to the List-Expanded.

  • White Balance Setting Errors - HELP!

I am having a problem with Aperture and wanted to find if anyone else has noticed this since the update to 3.1.
I imported a batch of photos (about 75 RAW 25 JPEG) and noticed that the white balance was the same for every picture. Odd since my Nikon camera is set to Auto White Balance and RAW and the JPEG photos from my Sony should show 5000/0. Everything was showing the same value, which was something like 4689/-5.
I discovered that Aperture is only showing me the setting for the first photo I select after opening the program. Unless I deselect the photo by clicking somewhere on the background, that photo's setting will show for all photos that have not been locked into a setting by editing. After deselecting, I can then click on a different photo and get the correct white balance numbers.
This causes a very annoying problem - I can't start editing a photo after directly clicking on it or moving to it with the arrow keys because the white balance starting point will be from a previous photo's setting, so I am moving the sliders from the wrong starting point. Having to deselect and reselect between every photo is very irritating.
I've restarted my computer, repaired Aperture's permissions, and repaired the database, but nothing fixes the problem. It's likely a bug that needs an update to be fixed (I submitted a bug report) but I'm open to suggestions.
Anyone else having a similar problem since updating?

    Others have reported simialr problems.

  • Premiere Elements 13 Eyedropper for white balance, gray, and black NOT WORKING. Help!

I'm using Premiere Elements 13.1 on an iMac, and trying to adjust the white balance on a clip with ZERO success.  The main reason for this is that I cannot utilize the "eyedropper" selector; I know what should appear white, gray, and black, but cannot select those items.
In the Three-Way Color Corrector there are Eyedroppers to use to specify areas of known color range. I have tried without success to select ANY of the eyedroppers...
I have clicked on it - NOTHING
I have held the left mouse on it and attempted to drag it onto the frame - NOTHING
    I have right-clicked it - NOTHING
The eyedroppers are not greyed out and they do respond when clicked. I have hit Reset button galore. I have restarted the program.
I have held my mouth funny - NOTHING :-)
When my cursor is hovering over the tool, it changes to an eyedropper. If I click, nothing happens when the cursor is moved - the cursor changes right back into its regular arrow shape. The cursor does nothing to the image if an item is clicked....there is no change to anything on the monitor.
I am a longtime Photoshop user but new to Premiere Elements. This dropper seems to work nothing like the PS ones. In fact, it doesn't work at all...so far.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to simply select the eyedropper and take it onto the image and select the white (or gray or black)??? Before I go bananas (may be too late)? THANK YOU!

Still not working. I think the root cause of the problem is the mechanics of using the tool itself; I hope this screen shot shows up below ...
Here I have APPLIED EFFECTS open, and have selected Midtones (Greys) to be expanded so that the eyedropper and other details appear:
Now, just below where it has a box and "Impacted frame area in white" (which I know is a checkbox allowing the area effected to be seen), there is a little color box and an eyedropper.
What EXACTLY do I do to select (activate) the eyedropper and subsequently tell the program what I feel should be grey in the selected clip?
As mentioned before, I can click it and the cursor briefly changes to the same shape as the eyedropper. But as soon as I move the cursor a fraction, it changes back to an arrow (normal cursor) shape. Even then, going to the area I need to select in the image, and then clicking it, does exactly nothing to the appearance of the image shown -- even if the colors start way off. No correction at all. It is as if the tool does nothing. The color wheels below all this DO work however - it's just the eyedropper that doesn't do anything. This just cannot be Adobe's intention. I am convinced there must be some flaw in how I am selecting the tool itself. And the user guide - needless to say - is worthless in explaining the mechanics.
So very frustrating. This appears to be the only thing wrong with the program - nothing else seems amiss.
NOTE: To add insult to injury, this promised white/gray/black balance feature and the three-way-color corrector is the SOLE REASON I purchased the software. Funny.

  • Multi Camera Troubleshooting help

I am having trouble getting my Multi camera editing to line the clips up with the audio.  I have one of the tracks sync to good audio. All the other tracks have audio, i have the sync audio selected but Multi camera tracks sync to the head and don't line up with the audio. I think I am doing everything correctly. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me. Thanks.
    Joe

do a secondary click (left) with your mouse on the multi-cam clip in your event library and pick "open camera editor" in the context menu
then you see all your clips like a stack
now you determine the main angle by clicking in this symbol:
then you select a clip so that it appears with a yellow frame around it and do a secondary click (left) with your mouse again (context menue opens) on this button (the triangle on the right):
and choose "Sync Angle to Monitoring Angle" (i hope that's the expression in the english version)
.... then a process bar appears in the upper area of FCPX and then the clip you selected before suppose to be sync with the main angle/camera ... therefore it will be most likely shifted in a certain direction
hope you can understand my explanation

  • 2 Multi cam shoot- one shot in hdv other in ntsc dv

I used two cams to shoot event. One cam was a DV. Other was an HDV. How can i make my picture size the same. preferable to HDV.

If you want to use FCPs multiclip feature, both videos will have to be in the same format.
You can downconvert the HDV to DV on import, or upconvert the DV after import. Which way you want to go depends on your delivery format. If you're delivering on web or dvd, I'd go the downconvert route. Your DV footage will suffer greatly by upconverting to HDV, which is needless if you're delivering in SD.

  • HP Photosmart C4795 Wireless Setup (Error Messege: Device Not Connected) Help?!?

I've had my HP Photosmart C4795 since 2009. I've haven't had any major issues with the printer until recently (probably time to get a new one).
This is my issue; the printer can't connect to my network. I'm able to print via USB from my Mac or PC. But I'd like to be able to print from any computer on my home network. In the past I've setup the printer to network with minor issue. I've had issues ever since the Mountain Lion Update (running version 10.8.3).
I've attempted to try once again to connect the printer to the network and I get an error message from my the HP Installer software (Device Not Connected). I've tried to troubleshoot the printer with no luck. These are solutions I've tried
    1) Uninstalled HP Installer Software/Setup via Mac  - I added the printer using the latested instructions provide from HP Supports section. I set up the printer but I can't it isn't showing up on any other computer.
    2) WPS - My router (supplied by Comcast) couldn't find the printer. I used routers login website to connect the printer but it didn't work.
    3) I've printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and manually add the printer's MAC Address to list on my router's devices list. I still can't connect wirelessly to the printer.
I've connected this printer wirelessly in the past before the Mountain Lion Update. Can anyone help?

First, on the printer go to Setup [Scan] > Wireless > Restore Defaults.
Then, set the printer up using WPS (pushbutton) - start it in the printer (Wireless menu) first, then the router within 2 minutes of starting it on the printer.
There is no HP software for 10.8, so you need to uninstall it.   Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Are there white balance presets - like in Camera Raw?

Hi. I'm newer to Aperture, and when I'm editing photos, I'm wondering if there's a white balance preset, like in Adobe Camera Raw, that match my camera's white balance options (cloudy, flash, daylight, etc.). Is there something like that in Aperture that I can't find, or am I just regulated to the sliders?
    Thanks!

they are not preinstalled, but you can easily make them. just shoot several images with your camera set to each white balance, then save all the settings in the white balance brick.

  • Can Bridge report in-camera settings for White Balance?

No matter what settings I choose in Bridge Preferences, I cannot get it to tell me what was the White Balance (WB) setting of the camera when raw images were shot.
This seems an odd omission because Camera Raw is passed this information and displays images correctly, although it doesn't report what WB value it was given, only that what you are viewing, prior to any editing, is the default "As Shot".
I'm referring to raw files shot on my Canon 300D, Nikon D700 and Canon 5D Mark II.
Currently I'm using PsCS6 (13.0.1.2 x64), Bridge CS6 (5.0.2.4 x64) and ACR 8.1 on a Windows 7 x64 8GB system, but the same omission existed on the same Windows system with ACR 7.x in CS6 and all releases of PsCS5, Bridge CS5 and ACR 6.6 and 6.7.
On the opening dialog of Bridge Preferences, at the bottom you can choose whether or not you wish to 'Hide Empty Fields'. Selecting or unselecting this option does not have any effect upon Bridge's inability to report WB when, from within Bridge, you select File Info from the File menu or by hitting Ctrl + I.
The only locations in Bridge Preferences I can find that need selection (and which I have selected) for Bridge to supply WB information upon invoking File Info are here:
    Preferences\Metadata\Camera Data (Exif)\White Balance; and
    Preferences\Metadata\Camera Raw\White Balance
I have also selected Preferences\Metadata\File Properties\Supports XMP, and yet Bridge fails to give the in-camera WB in the Camera Data tab of File Info.
I have been able to locate references to WB in the following tabs of File Info:
File Info\Advanced, where there appears, under the sub-tab 'Exif Properties (http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0)', an entry such as 'exif:White Balance:1'; and
    File Info\Raw Data an entry such as '<exif:White Balance >1< /exif:White Balance>'.
However, these are just code numbers, not names like 'Cloudy' or 'Shade', and they are not only inconsistent (both showing the code 1 for an unedited image I know was shot with Auto WB and another unedited image I know was shot with Flash WB) but also it would appear that the codes may refer to the WB as modified by ACR - because an image I know had its in-camera WB of Auto altered in ACR shows a code of 'Custom' rather than 0, 1 or some other number.
So what am I missing? Does anyone know how to make Bridge Preferences display the in-camera setting for WB, and if so, under which tab of File Info do you look for the answer once you have set up Preferences properly?

Just corrected my current Photoshop version

I'm afraid that you just haven't addressed the question that I asked in my original post.
I still like to think I have but if you for whatever reason need this info showing in the metadata you probably be better of trying to alter it your self or find a way to address Paul personally (maybe via a private message).
I have not heard from him for a long time and a small google search provided me with this forum post, hope it helps you, maybe you can also persuaded Paul to come back, he is very missed!
