White band on video capture

I'm using the GeForceTi4600 -VTD card to capture analog home movies. I keep getting a large white band through the middle of the capture. I'm not dropping frames and otherwise the capture is going well.
This has happened when using Ulead DVD Workshop and Adobe Premiere 6.5. The source video is just a home movie so there is no protection feature on it.
The white band shows up in the AVI file so its not just a matter of seeing it in the preview windows.
I'm using driver nv4_disp version 6.13.10.3100. The OS is Win2K SP3.
Any thoughts? I'm brand new to this so am struggling with a lot of variables. Thanks in advance.
Dave

  • White bar across video capture

    After extensive searching across this most amazing forum (I'm bookmarking this and I'll be back (with austrian accent)) I found something close to my problem.
    After updating my system with all the latest drivers I still have a problem with video capture from my camcorder. I can get the capture to work fine but it shows a horizontal white bar across the replay. I thought it might have been some kind of censor algorithm as it was of a naughty video of my wife and I but after tryin 8 different capture programs and installing and reinstalling trying other very tame family videos the white bar would appear and disappear randomly no matter what I captured.
    In a post from Ayrsayle at the end of which he said
     "One last hint: The 1.12 drivers and up have Macrovision built in so if you copy commercial tapes or DVDs you'll get a white bar across the image. It can be fixed this way:
    Get a copy of the 1.08 drivers (you can web search for them). Extract 1.08 drivers to a new folder, and replace Nvcap.sys and Nvcap.inf *only* in the Windows directories(do file find on C:/windows to locate them) with the 1.08 versions. Reboot. Problem solved. I just found this tonight.
    I hope some of this helps, I've had to tear my hair out as well over the past month upon getting this card! "
    Well my problem is it's not a commercial video I'm capturing (Well at least not yet!).
    My other problem is I'm having trouble locating the past drivers.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks
    James :(

     :O  X( I'm trying to capture my home videos off of my sharp hi8 video camera.
    I'd like to know how the F*&$%ers at Macrovision found a way to copyright my family reuion!
    If I ever meet one of them I'm going to tear him a new a**hole
    and the other thing is why do I have to spend over a week trying to find what the problem was and now spend more money (of course what the f*@% was I thinking) to fix something that shouldnt even be there.
    I'm going to leave a message with MSI and if I don't have an answer by tomorrow evening when I log on again, someone is going to get a video card inserted in a slot they never expected
    By the way. I did a search of this forum and other than going back to an old driver(which i spent the last 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back) which didn't work NO ONE HAS SATISFACTORILY ANSWERED THIS QUESTION!
    What happened to the other guys did they give up?

  • White band when capturing video

    When capturing video I get a periodic white band covering 75% of captured video using all Sonic MyDVD, Windows Movie Maker, and ShowBiz software. I have a NVidia FX 5600 card usingWin XP home. The band lasts for 5 to 15 seconds, but is not at a regular rate and sometimes it doesnt happen at all when recording 30-60 minutes of video. Am downloading updated drivers right now but asking for further ideas.

    sctbrd,
    I have the exact same problem as you do with my Fx5600-vtr-128 capture card..
    "jorge' does also have the same problem..Looks like it's systemic with the Nvidia card or drivers not being able to work with the WDM driver..I'll try to post a screen shot but jorge already has and I'll bet if you check his post you will find your exact bar or srtip...
    Good luck,

  • How can I download video from a Canon ZR30 video camera to my IMac.  I bought Elgato Video Capture, but the connections do not match.  There is no white female end in the camera.  Also, the red and yellow connections are loose at the camera end.

    How can I download video from a Canon ZR30 video camera to my IMac?  I have Elgato Video Capture, but the provided connectors are loose in the camera and the camera does not have a white female end.  No signal shows up on the computer when I connect the red and yellow connectors.

    Broken solder joints on the camera me thinks!!

  • 5800 Video capture - disable white balance

    Hi
    Anyone know a way to turn white balance off when capturing video - it is really annoying as the video keep readjusting to every change  really obviously!
    Cheers

    That's ALC (automatic level control).
    White balance is what adjusts the overall tint (not brightness) of the picture according to the type of ambient light. For example, neon light gives everything a green tint, so the "camera" compensates for this.

  • I need a video capture device for downloading Band and family video tapes.

    Hi,  I need to download some old video tapes before they turn to dust.  Are there any fairly inexpensive video capture devices that work well with the Imac?
    Thanks

    Are they VHS video cassettes or something like 8MM camcorder tapes?
    If they're camcorder tapes, usually it's best to try to buy an old video camera (MUST have FIREWIRE port).
    Then you can play the tape in the camera and capture from the Firewire. Also important, if you have a 2010 (maybe 2009?) or newer iMac, you'll need a cable that is Firewire 400 to fit the camera at one end and Firewire 800 at the other end to connect to the iMac.

  • Video capture

    I have a GeForce4 MX 440-VTP graphics card and have the video in and out adapter connected. The problem I am having is with the video capture function. When I start recording the streaming video from either my analog video camcorder (composite input)or VCR (S-Video input) I get a horizontal white bar that takes up the middle third of the screen. The bar does not show up during the recording but is there during playback.

    Thank you for your help. I searched on the net and everyone seems to have the same solution for the problem. They say that the problem is caused by the macrovision copy protection and that one needs to download an older WDM capture driver (v1.08 for example) and the problem will go away. I am going to give this a shot this evening and will post what happens tomorrow.
    I installed the older capture drivers and now the video capture works just fine. So the solution is to get older WDM capture drivers that do not have the macrovision copy protection in them.

  • Add video capture feature to CIVideoDemoGL

    Hello,
    I'm a little bit stuck with the CIVideoDemoGL. How do I add video capture feature to this demo instead of using a file as input?
    I know how I capture the video stream from camera and captureOutput:didOutputVideoFrame:withSampleBuffer:fromConnection: is called every time a new frame comes. I can also see a preview of the captured video on screen on the CaptureView.
    What I want to accomplish is methods to manipulate video on the fly (as in CIVideoDemoGL) directly from a camera (iSight or likely).
    I have tried to change renderCurrentFrame in VideoView.m. Instead of
    +inputImage = [CIImage imageWithCVImageBuffer:currentFrame];+ I have made a method that retrieve a CIImage* from VideoController (where I've place every captured frame from camera).
    The method call is like this: +[delegate getCurrentCapturedFrame:self data:(CIImage*)inputImage];+
    This method initializes the given CIImage with data from the captured frame.
    When I run this code I retrieve the following error in console +Program received signal: “EXCBADACCESS”.+
    So, something bad is going on but I don't know if I'm on the right way. Maybe it's my method getCurrentCapturedFrame that returns a bad object.
    Any ideas?

    Hello again,
    Thanks for your help. There was something wrong with my code.
    During this weekend I have managed to get captured video playing. But the video is almost black and white and if you zoom into it you can see red blue and green vertical lines. Even if I remove the filters I can see this happen. If I compare the video with the Capture view that I have implemented beside the OpenGL View I can see all colors on the first one. Any ideas?
    I have modified the original renderCurrentFrame to the following:
    - (void)renderCurrentFrame
    NSRect frame = [self frame];
    NSRect bounds = [self bounds];
    CGRect imageRect;
    CIImage *inputImage;
    CIImage *timecodeImage;
    // update timecode overlay
    timecodeImage = [timeCodeOverlay getImageForTime:[self currentTime]];
    if(!readyToGrabFrame)
    return;
    //Put captured image into inputImage
    inputImage = [CIImage imageWithCVImageBuffer:mCurrentImageBuffer];
    imageRect = [inputImage extent];
    [colorCorrectionFilter setValue:inputImage forKey:@"inputImage"];
    [effectFilter setValue:[colorCorrectionFilter valueForKey:@"outputImage"] forKey:@"inputImage"];
    [compositeFilter setValue:[effectFilter valueForKey:@"outputImage"] forKey:@"inputBackgroundImage"];
    [compositeFilter setValue:timecodeImage forKey:@"inputImage"];
    CGPoint p = CGPointMake((int)((frame.size.width - imageRect.size.width) * 0.5), (int)((frame.size.height - imageRect.size.height) * 0.5));
    // render our resulting image into our context
    [ciContext drawImage:[compositeFilter valueForKey:@"outputImage"]
    atPoint:p
    fromRect:imageRect];
    // housekeeping on the visual context
    QTVisualContextTask(qtVisualContext);
    My captureOutput:didOutputVideoFrame:withSampleBuffer:fromConnection is moved to VideoView class instead and I have also created an object that keeps the captured buffer with the name mCurrentImageBuffer
    The method looks like this now:
    - (void)captureOutput:(QTCaptureOutput *)captureOutput didOutputVideoFrame:(CVImageBufferRef)videoFrame withSampleBuffer:(QTSampleBuffer *)sampleBuffer fromConnection:(QTCaptureConnection *)connection
    countFrames++;
    [lock lock];
    CVImageBufferRef releasedImageBuffer;
    CVBufferRetain(videoFrame);
    @synchronized(self)
    //basically, have frame to be released refer to the current frame
    //then update the reference to the current frame with the next frame in the "video stream"
    releasedImageBuffer = mCurrentImageBuffer;
    mCurrentImageBuffer = videoFrame;
    CVBufferRelease(releasedImageBuffer);
    readyToGrabFrame = YES;
    [lock unlock];

  • Video Capture with GF4 TI4200

    I seem to be haveing a few problems with video capture on my PC.
    I am using my TI4200 TV-in function from my VCR/CC to capture footage. I am also using the latest WDM drivers from the nvidia site.
    However everyso often i will get an annoying white block straight accross the screen and i try to recapture but it will happen, maybe somewhere else! what can i do?
    I have used ULEAD and WIN MM and IV WinPro to try this!  :(

    Installing the OLDER video capture drivers seems to have corrected my problem with the white bar.
    http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/23.11/WDM_1.08.exe
    When I tried the NEW video capture listed on the MSI pages for the 8X agp the HUE on the capture was WAY OFF. No Blues were present AND I still had the WHITE BAR syndrome.
    Why does the OLDER capture driver work and not the NEW ones. Seems like I am taking steps backwards to get a NEW video card to function properly. I am running Win2K with an AMD 2400, Gigabyte mb, 1gig ram, 1st hd 80 gig, 2nd hd, 120 gig, yamaha cdrw, 4x dvd burner.

  • Video Capture Devices?

    What is a good video capture device for the macbook that I could use to capture video from my video camera(which has no firewire or USB ports on it).

    Your camera is a Hi8 and is also known as "analog". I'm an editor.
    Since you're camera doesn't have a FireWire port (which is what all capturing is done with), there's no way to capture without an external device, as you may know.
    So, I suggest getting the Canopus ADVC-110. I have it and it works flawlessly with FCP (which is what I edit in) and it will work with iMovie also. There is also the Canopus ADVC-55. For both of these adapters, you'll need to hook up the RCA (white, red and yellow) cables to the device, and capture. Your camera should have RCA inputs. These devices are a little expensive, but they work great. No additional software/drivers. It's worth it.
    Canopus ADVC-110
    Canopus ADVC-55
    Similar in price, personally I would get the ADVC-110.

  • N79 video capture color shift

    I have noticed that the video camera in my n79 is very sensitive to changes in light.  Often I get a major color shift during a video capture seemingly for no reason, especially when shooting outside.  Is this a defect or should I use a particular setting for video? Current settings are:
    quality: High(TV);
    scene mode:Auto;
    video light: off(shooting video outside during day);
    white balance: Automatic (this MIGHT be the culprit?);
    Color tone:Normal.
    Two stills from video are attached; one is unnaturally vivid (almost day-glo!).
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Bill,
    Thank you for drawing my attention to the fact that neither QT Player nor WMP have color mangement built in. Not having worked a lot with video in the past it had really not occurred to me that mainstream players like QT and WMP in this day and age would not be color managed.
    On your suggestion I went looking for MPC HC and discovered that it has had color management built in since version 1.4 (needs to be enabled - View\Renderer Settings\Color Management\Enable). Works like a charm. However, when publishing to the net I must assume that a lot of viewers are using non color management players such as QT, WMP and others, and thus getting a less than optimal viewing experience. Sad story...
    Thanks again for putting me on the right track.

  • Video capture?  shouldnt the cable come with?

    Hey,
    I want to do some video capturing with my MacPro. I have final cut express that i bought with the computer.
    My main thing is that I want to get video off of old micro vhs cassettes. So I only have a vhs machine to play them back. Which only has the analog red-white-yellow plugins in the back. So what can I get to connect the 2 devices? Is there something made by mac that is plug and play? Or am I better to go with something from Best Buy?
    I dont want to spend 299 on the Apple wire. Icant see spending 300 bucks on what basically amounts to a firewire cord just cause its got an apple logo on it....

    Two options, one cheaper than the otehr, and dpends on what you'd like to have at the end of it:
    1. Most DV cameras will do analog to digital conversion using the audio in/out plug and a firewire cable to capture video as it is played into the DV camera. A used Canon (even a new one) should be cheap. I use a Canon ZR-40 as a deck and leave it connected all the time. This is often referred to as "pass-through".
    2. The EYE TV 250. It, with the included software, makes your mac a DVR. It has a cable set included for recording composite video in and L/R audio and connects to the mac with USB 2.0. It records whatever you input plus it tunes cable TV and records that. Loads of fun. Exports to MP4 for iPod and the new software integrates with Tivo. http://www.elgato.com
    If you have no video making aspersions go with EYE TV 250.
    A/D boxes, e.g. Canopus do work (at times, grudgingly) but that's all you get and either choice above may cost less and give you extra things out of your hard earned $.

  • FX5200 Video Capture Question

    Hello, I just bought an MSI FX5200 with Video In today. I got it installed and all the drivers for it no problem. But when I went to capture video from my camcorder (I was using an older video capture card before) I noticed that I could have higher resolutions but I couldn't change the pixel depth/compression. It was stuck on UYVY. After recording a few videos like this, I noticed that they were coming out very choppy with some lines on the frames and ocassionally a white box would cover have of the video. I do have my frame rate set to 30fps, but that doesn't seem to help. However, when I decrease the resolution to tv size, it helps a little but the result file is still very ugly.
    Now, I would really like to use this card because it has S-video and higher resolutions, so I was wondering if there was a way I could change the file format to RGB. I'm not eactly sure how this pixel compression things work cause I had the option to change the compression on my older video card. Can someone help me out?

    movie maker does not give me a vidio option.  It only allows audio.  I can not configure it since it is grayed out.  I will check the other discs for software that I did not load.  ANy other tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Wow, what a quick reply!
    Delivery was going to be Quicktime HD and probably downconvering to SD MPEG2 for a DVD. I was just going to edit in HDV, since I'm not doing anything fancy, just to try it out as a workflow option (and previews for the client). The first couple of projects I've started on my Macbook Pro though have had this hue shift (I can post an example on-line if need be by filming my monitor...) It's not inherent in the actual captured QT file, just when being played back in FCP. When I export out of FCP the QT file looks great as well. I've never had this problem on my G5 tower with HDV from the same camera or captured the same way. I'm worried that it's the univeral copy of FCP or even worse, my Macbook!
    Make sense?
    Thanks
