White battery and WiFi task bar icons

I have a new W520-4276 with Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1, BIOS 1.06. After I removed Norton Internet Security, the little battery and WiFi icons in the Task Bar system tray are white. Hovering the mouse cursor over them shows proper data, e.g, 100% charge. The larger Lenovo battery icon to their left is green, so it behaves normally.
I think this happened after I removed Norton Internet Security. Has anyone seen this? Any comments or suggestions?
It's a small thing but the icons should actively reflect the underlying data, not be white.

The OP references a larger green Lenovo icon to the left, so I am assuming he is referring to the Windows icons.
In Windows 7, these icons are white unless there is a problem.  Boring, but true.  They are "animated", though, in that the wireless icon will show signal strength (bars) and the power icon will show a different icon for battery versus AC.
I don't know of a way to change the colors.  Never wondered until now.

My macbook pro won't start up. I get the white screen and the grey apple icon   the spinning wheel......and it doesn't change !

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Windows Task Bar Icon (Access 2013)

This is my first database I created from scratch in Access 2013, and I am not sure how to change my Windows Task Bar Icon use the Application Icon.  Not a huge deal, but to keep consistency between my systems, it would be nice to resolve.
How does one get Access 2013 to use the Application Icon to show in the Windows Task Bar when the program is launched?

    Hi Mark,
    >> it wasn't a big issue, it is just by assigning an Icon in Access 2010, the application magically had that same icon on the task bar showing open programs.<<
Based on my test, the icon in Windows Task Bar will not change after I assign an icon for Access 2010. I tested in Access 2010 on Windows 7, here is the screenshot for your reference:

  • IPad revers back to a home screen from another page being used, IE Facebook    Good battery and wifi signal

iPad revers back to a home screen from another page being used, IE Facebook    Good battery and wifi signal.   Sometimes several times in a couple of minutes. Could there be an problem with internal hardware

    Hi there
My wife and I have been dealing with a very similar issue with our iPhone 5ss, all battery drain issues started after the upgrade to ios 7.03. We have performed numerous restores and have had 3 trips to the Genius Bar.  Finally they gave us new iPhones (yesterday).  We had hoped this would do the trick but we have the same problem on the new phones.
This morning I restored one and didn't sign into iCloud.  Battery drain is now gone.  And when I deleted iCloud from my wife's phone it too went back to normal.  So I believe the culprit is iCloud and I am now testing various setups with iCloud to determine which app/setting is causing the problem.
Hope this helps with your phones.  I will post again if I can narrow it down to something specific.
    Good luck!

I have to go into Firefox and actually quit the application to continue. Any help is very much appreciated.

are you backing up files, or doing a Time machine backup, either way, the Time machine will STOP when finished and show "last backup at XXXXXX"  meaning its done...... OR if when transferring files, it will show a progress bar on your desktop and vanish when files are copied.
Open up the Hitachi drive (your G drive is made by Hitachi, and the best made by the way).....and see if the files are there.
a MORE VISUAL way is to open the hard drive file, and drag and drop files INTO the Gdrive and you can see them visually be copied there as you do it.
To see your HD on your desktop GOTO  FINDER......PREFERENCES....then GENERAL TAB.........check the box marked HARD DRIVES.........then your Gdrive will appear on your desktop........open it from there,  and DRAG and drop files from anywhere INTO the Gdrive....... easy visual way to see the files being copied into the Gdrive.

  • Disappearing Dock & Task Bar Icons

I just installed OSX 6.8 on my MacBook Pro.  Now some of the items in the dock no longer appear with their icons.  The dock has a few blank spaces in it, but if you mouse over the blank space the identifying text appears.  Same thing is true for the Task Bar that you get when you hit Command-Tab.  Any ideas?

Are those items Apple applications or 3rd party apps you installed and perhaps moved to a custom location?
Do the dock icons still work or not?

  • Photo bin photos and Windows Task bar

My opened photos, elements, etc. are showing up not only in the photo bin, but also all across my Windows Task bar.  Is there any way to only have them show up in the Elements 11 photo bin?

    Hi,
If you want to have floating windows, then each window will have a separate icon on the Taskbar. However, you can group the icon together so that it looks like just one.
Right click on the Taskbar and select properties. In the Properties dialog box check the setting for Taskbar buttons.
The above is for Windows 7 but Windows 8 should be similar

  • Change Status Hover Over Task bar Icon

So I have Lync 2013 Back end with Lync 2013 clients (patched up till January 2015). On some clients, you can hover over the Lync icon in the task bar (not the system tray by the clock) to reveal buttons to change your presence, however on others the buttons
aren't there. For the life of me i can't figure out how to get them there for the machines that they dont appear for.

    Hi,
Please double check if the issued Lync clients are Lync Basic version.
I test both Lync full version from Office 2013 and Lync 2013 Basic version, only Lync full version have this function.

  • Duo monitor and windows task bar...

Hi, i have two monitors. And now here is my question/problem, when i watch videos or live streams(main monitor) i usually have another page for browsing open on my 2nd monitor and i stay on that page while watching live stream at the same time. However the windows task bar wont disappear and it remains and over-laps the bottom part of my main monitor. Is there any way to change this or perhaps theres no hope?

    Hi,
if my understanding is correct your issue is more related to primary/secondary monitor setting in Windows. Please note that when in extended mode the taskbar will normally be only shown on the primary monitor.
The Windows taskbar will disappear when you use FF in fullscreen mode (F11) which you may find useful when streaming video from web.
    Hope it helps

  • I lost my Start button and my Task Bar

I have been dealing with a serious virus for a couple weeks now that makes my computer run extremely slow. I ran several free antivirus and antimalware programs trying to fix my problem. This resulted in getting an error msg on start up that states "Windows
Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. After Explorer closes I have no desktop. Its a black and blank screen. I can still get to Explorer
by using ctrl-alt-del however I no longer have a Start button or a Task Bar on my Explorer home page.
I have tried several online suggestions on retrieving the Stop button with no success. I'm sure the blank screen at start-up is a result of the virus but I have no clue on getting rid of the virus at this point.
Please help me out if you have any ideas...Thank you!!

  • Since replacing hard drive, "restore previous session" button doesn't work, can only do it through history tab. Also will not start up from task bar icon.

Hi, been using Firefox for some years, had to replace hard drive recently and re loaded Firefox. Since then, the restore previous session button doesn't work, but I can do it from the History tab. Also Firefox itself won't start from the task bar or desktop, only the start menu.

This function may not be available for mobile yet. You can put your suggestions to the [[Suggestion Box]]. Thanks!

  • When i log onto my hp pavilion it wont allow me to go to my desktop and my task bar is missing

So I have a HP Pavilion 15-e021nr Notebook PC and recently I reinstalled the audio drive and touchpad since I was having issues with those two and when I rebooted my PC all of a sudden I'm not able to get to my desktop from the Windows page. I am able to log on but it just stays on the Windows page instead of going to my desktop. It just freezes but I'm able to move the mouse. I think my PC is updated to Windows 8 but I'm not quite sure... my task bar isn't working but I can still see the time and all the items usually on the bottom right but everything else on the left like my Internet Explorer and etc. is gone. I was able to get to my desktop just now but it only works if I tap on the windows button and tap the screen fast but I'm sitting here with no task bar and no audio....
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME??? I would highly appreciate it
    I'm really bad with technology...

    Hello Srey,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the computer is experiencing issues in regards to booting to the desktop, lack of audio and the touchpad not working. I can assist you with all of these!
I will simply provide a link to information on how to resolve each issue, separately:
Before anything else is done, please make sure you try every step in this thread: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
This is particularly for the sound issue. However, some of the other issues could be resolve by following the thread.
Next, I located an interesting article on how you can configure the computer to boot to the desktop in Windows 8+. The article is linked here: How to Boot to the Desktop in Windows 8 & Windows 8.1
Finally, to troubleshoot the touchpad, you will want to look at this document: Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)
Please let me know all of your results. Thanks!

  • When i turn my mac on i get the white screen and a progress bar that when finished shuts the computer down

i recently came back from holiday and tried to start up my laptop (that stayed at home, just shutdown but plugged in). when i turned it on, i got the apple white screen, a timer wheel and a progress bar that when it reached the end of the bar, it just shut the computer down again. i cannot get past this screen and the mac will not turn on. does anybody know how i can fix this please?

Your hard drive is dead and you'll need a new one. If you're the least bit handy, you can replace the drive yourself. You need to decide what capacity and speed you want out of a new drive.
I'm hoping that you had backup schemes in place? If not, there's a chance that, with a tool such as DiskWarrior, you MIGHT be able to grab some data from your dead/dying drive.
