White boot screen doesn't fill screen

I'm not sure when this started happening, and it's not too big a deal, but now, when my unibody 17" MBP boots, the white boot screen looks like a 4:3, low-res image with black bands on the sides. Basically, it doesn't fill the screen like it used to.
I have plugged it into a projector using the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. Might that have something to do with it? Is there any way to fix it?

Try resetting the computer's PRAM, by rebooting and holdiing down the options-command-P-R keys all at once. Let the computer reset and chime a couple of times, and then release the keys and allow it to boot normally.

  • No white boot screen whit black apple on my white 4s!

    Hi there,
I saw that some of my friends with white iphone's like mine's, have as boot logo a black apple white an white background!
If any one know how to do that on my iphone 4s i'll thank him very much!

The white bootup screen is only for iPhone 5 and above I believe.
My friend has a white iPhone 4 and I tested a white 4S at the Apple Store, they don't support it.

  • Late (October) 2008 MBP stuck at white boot screen

    Howdy!
Several days ago, my MacBook (running mountain lion, though his problem started before I upgraded from lion) started lagging on and off. I would click on something simple (like clicking an Internet link, or an item in the menu bar), and sometimes it would work, fine, and other times, it would take up to ten minutes or so to complete the task! So I did some research to find out what could be causing this, and ended up finding out (via SMART utility) that my hard drive had some bad sectors, and was failing. So I was just planning on replacing it, but last night, Andrew shutting my computer down, and then tried rebooting it. Then my worst (techi) nightmere came true. The drive spun up, fans turned on, the screen turned white/gray, and it made the "Dooooooo" startup sound, and that's all. It just hanged there. I let it sit like that for well over an hour, and nothing changed. When I press the power button, I don't have to hold it for several second to turn it off, I just have to tap it, and it shutdown. I tried clearing Pram, and that caused it to reboot, so I know it's getting a signal from the keyboard, but that didn't have any effect.
What is this indicative of? I don't think it's tr hard drive because it does it even when it's removed. I'd read that some people had their graphics card give out, thus requiring that the logic board be replaced, but they usually had different symptoms.
    Help!
    Thank!
    Paul

    Bump.

  • Macbook Pro - White Boot Up Screen

I have a MacBook pro running on Leopard (Don’t remember the specs clearly but if you need it I can find it) and I was experiencing slow performance of Finder so I decided to reboot it to solve the issue.
After rebooting, I’m stuck on a white boot screen for a prolonged period of time. Eventually, I get sent to my partitioned Windows hard drive. I found it strange and I did another reboot. While holding down the option key I could only see my mouse and the partitioned Windows hard drive. My OSX Hard drive disappeared?
I did some searching online and found someone with a similar issue, and they were told to insert the installation disk. Will this solve my problem? How do you boot from the disk? Do you hold down the option key and select it from there? And which installation should I choose? I don’t want to erase any of my previous data and information on the OSX hard drive.
    Thank you~

I booted from my install disk and I ran the Disk Repair on my Macintosh HD.
I ended up with a lot of "Invalid Node Structure's" and "Invalid Record Count"
I left it overnight to continue 'repairing', and in the morning after it completed, the software told me that the disk could not be repaired and that I need to backup and restore the harddrive.
Do I have any other solutions? I really don't want to lose any of my important data on my hard drive.
I stuck with just backing up whatever I can and restoring? Or is there an alternate solution.

  • Mac OS X Lion displays grey (No background) login screen before Apple boot screen

Macbook Pro 13" (2011) Upon startup, displays a grey screen, then after a few seconds, the logon screen, I would logon, then it would show the Apple White boot screen, then it would ask me to log on again (sometimes)
Anyone else have this problem? any solotion would be greatly appreciated...

    Try reinstalling Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • MacBook Pro stuck on boot screen

Hello, I have recently turned on my 2010 MacBook Pro to find that it stays on the white boot screen with the little wheel spinning :( I have no discs or anything to restore my computer back to. What can I do?

First see if you can boot into your Recovery partition by holding down the command and R keys whilst booting. If you can get there use Disk Utility to Verify and, if needed, repair you hard drive. If the drive can't be repaired, you'll need a new one.

  • Curve 9300 Doesn't start. Stucks at boot screen

    Hi,
I've got a brand new Curve 9300 less than a week ago. I've updated it's OS to version 6, and it worked perfectly.
When I attempted to configure my email, it automatically asked to update with my carrier's email setup software. I just chose ok. I got three warning messages, which I don't exactly remember but it was about something may not function correctly (regarding to version difference). I just continued installation, and it asked for a reboot.
When I rebooted the mobile, it goot stuck at the boot screen. Then nothing! The thin status bar bellow BlackBerry's logo fills up until it's full, then nothing happens. When I wait for longer time (a few minutes), I get a message on a white screen with a tiny font with "App Error 606", with one option of 'RESET'.
I pulled out the battery and restored it a few times, nothing different.
    Notes:
The LED does not do anything, except for a single red blink when it reboots
The keboard seems to be responsive. I get the Alt and Shift indicators in the top right corner when I press them
The power button doens't seem to cause any response
    I appreciate your help.
Edit: The Desktop Software shows that the device is not connected, even though it's attached to the USB cable.
Edit: The Alt-Shift-Del combination causes the system to go to a blank white screen with that "app error" mentioned above

  • Display doesn't fill screen (Black square around)

    Hi, thanks for reading.
Y restarted my computer and noted that there is a black space between the border of the display and the screen. Is the same problem in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7175451
I already try to restart the PRAM and the NVRAM, change the resolution and disable the universal access.
Even when i boot the gray screen (with the apple) doesn't fill the screen.
    Can anyone help me please?

Try the following; in /Library/Preferences find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash. Find also in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost the file com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and yourusername is the name on the main user account and throw that in the trash, too. Then restart and see if the wide screen function returns.

  • Installed new screen on macbook pro 15" and now it boots fine but doesn't show the grey boot screen???

I recently installed a used but in good condition glossy display on my 15" macbook pro as mine the backlight was starting to have issues and there were some surface scratches on the screen. Anyway the screen works perfect except I don't get the grey boot screen when i start the machine up. You can tell the screen is on as you can see the backlight come on. But the screen doesn't actually show anything until it starts to go into OS X. not sure what the problem could be. I relize this is not a big issue but I am stumped on why it is doing this. Also maybe I am just crazy b/c I have dealt with the other screen for such a long time now but it doesn't seem like I am getting exactly the right colors and brighness on the new screen. I have calibrated it and all and like i said it might just be me. More concerned with the whole no boot screen issue. Anyone experience this before, and if so any solutions for me. Thanks.

It's hard to diagnose but you do have a problem. Take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them diagnose your damage. And, no AppleCare does not cover user accidents. Check with your homeowners insurance.

  • HT201335 Hi.  I have an apple tv and am able to mirror the image on my ipad to my tv, however it doesn't fill the full screen.  Is there a way to get a full image on my 32" Tv.  Thanks a lot for your help

HI.I have an apple TV and am able to mirror the image on my ipad onto the screen.  However, it doesn't fill the full 32" screen.  Is there some way to project a bigger image onto the Tv.  Thanks for your help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone 4S or prior an aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.
You may wish to try each of the settings in ‘Settings > Audio & Video > Adjust for AirPlay overscan’ for the best setting that suits you.

  • The picture from my AppleTv on my Samsung LCD TV doesn't fill the entire screen.  It is only a strip across the screen

The picture on the screen when viewing movies on Apple TV on a samsung lcd screen is only a strip across the screen and doesn't fill the entire screen.  Any settings suggestions?

If you can get to the settings on the AppleTV attempt to adjust the resolution settings to something more appropriate.

  • G5 mac wont boot up past white apple screen

My kids mac wont boot up past the white apple screen. I can here everything running but the monitor starts to get all static and scan lines with a reddish tint to it. I tried the commandoption+pr but it still wouldn't boot-up past the white apple screen. Not sure what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

    Hi there Peter,
Not cheap anyway you look at it sorry, professional Data Recovery being the most expensive.
Unfortunately, Disk Utility can't fix all that much, and the only other Apple Options are erasing the HD, or installing OSX to a second drive, then using Migration Assistant to move stuff over to the new HD.
If Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

Your best bet is DiskWarrior, you need the CD/DVD though.

This one would require another HD with plenty of space to recover to.
You should use another Boot Disk or other Mac with this one in Target mode to do the recovery.
They have a free demo to see what it could recover.

  • G5 wont boot past white Apple screen.

To anybody that may have some advice. I hadn't used my power mac in about 4 days then when I turned it on last night it wouldn't boot past the white apple screen. I still have the chime my fans and processor still spin up. I tried resetting the SMU, and I also took out 3rd party ram I had installed and tried booting up to see if that was the problem. I'm prepared to take it to the apple store, I just thought somebody might have some advice before I take it there. So again when I boot up it reaches the white screen with the grey apple and then it just gives me the little grey spinning dial and just spins and spins. Thanks in advance to anybody with any advice.
Dual 2.0 GHz Power mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well first I booted holding option and it just booted into target disk mode or something like it, a screen that would allow me boot from a different drive if I had one that was formatted with Tiger. So then I rebooted holding >shift and OPtion. And it kernel paniced, it said it didnt have the driver for this version Tiger 7,2 or something along those lines and then it gave me apples screen of death asking me to restart.

  • Macbook pro won't boot, stuck on white apple screen

Noticed today, that my macbook pro won't boot . It gets to the white apple screen with the spinner under the apple logo. It stays like this for a long time without doing anything except spinning.
I've powered down and tried to boot up several times.
I have boot camp and windows on my mac and when the white screen appears, I can press Option to bring up which hard drive and the Windows partition will load without any problems.

Exacty what happens when you try to boot up from the disc that came with your computer?  Are you holding down the c key?  Have you tried holding down the "option key?"  Are you able to run the Hardware Test - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Lion - This will install a "fresh" copy of Lion without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
