White box before swf plays

I looked for similar questions on the forum, but couldn't find a reference. This is likely an inane question (with a simple answer), but here goes.
I have created slideshows for a site with a blue background. In quick succession, the page loads, a white box appears where the swf will play, and then the Flash movie starts. The background color of the Flash file matches the background color of the site. How do I get rid of the white box that appears beforehand?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Jon

If the background of the movie is the same color as the page I think there is a param you can change in your object tag or your swfobject or something like that that will make the swf stage transparent. Then I think the white box will go away.
You may also need to use a preloader to eliminate the box.

I began this discussion over on the Dreamweaver forum but was advised to move it here.
Been tearing my hair out for days. I have  several flv files displaying just fine on my website. All I am am trying  to do is replace an enormous .flv file with a smaller file of the same  movie. The new smaller file is just 25 MB, compressed with a bitrate of 1000kbps. The test page that contains the smaller file previews just fine  of course in Dreamweaver, but after uploading the clip, the html page, the .swf files  (in the same directory) and the Scripts folder to my host's ftp server, the browser shows me that dreaded  white box on my test page for a full seven minutes until the file loads up completely. Then it plays through beautifully with no buffering. On the other pages of my site, the videos all show up without such a wait, even the enormous 179 mb flv!
    Here's the test page:
    http://www.ponyhighway.com/emz-test2.html
The original page, which is working fine (except painful to view because of too large .flv file ), and from which the test page was created, is:
    http://ponyhighway.com/emz.html
Flash videos also playing fine here:
    http://ponyhighway.com/otm.html
I've scoured the code between the two pages (test and original) and can see nothing different except the name of the video clip.
Could there be something quirky with the FLVPlyer_Progressive.swf?
Some issue with moving between CS4 and CS3? (I'm now on CS3)
Something odd or extra in the code on the test page that I'm just not seeing?
BTW, I've asked for AutoRewind, but NOT AutoPlay (through Dreamweaver).
Thanks in advance for any help given.

Well now I get to come back with my tail between my legs to say that  the solution was one of those really dumb, DUH kinds of things...
Just in case this can help anybody else I'll tell my sad story.
In  an effort to get my flv file size WAY down, I was using a compression  formula I got from one of the FCP gurus. But it was meant for making  files to upload to youtube, so he had suggested keeping the streaming  setting at "None," and setting the bitrate to 4000, since youtube would  be adding further compression on their end. Silly me forgot to switch to  "Fast start" for the progressive download. That was the key. Along the  way to this revelation, I learned a ton about compression...I got my  file size WAY down, and lowered my bitrate considerably as well (900),  so although there is still some buffering on a slow connection, its not  too bad, and a GIANT improvement over what was there before.I can live  with it
    Here's the new page:

  • White box before flash starts

    Hi All,
I have done my homework but did not see a simple fix.
I have loaded a 3 sec FLV movie with a black background to my index.html page using Dreamweaver and set the movie to start automatically.  The index.html page has a black background to match the background of the FLV movie.  1 sec or so before the logo plays you see a "very distracting" white box (blank screen) where the flash player opens (surrounded by black).  Once it opens all is well.
I have searched the fourm and see similar questions but did not see an answer...
    Thanks,

  • Little white boxes before every LI element

[RH 5.0.2 RoboHelp Html merged Webhelp project]
I've seen this before, but I thought the little white boxes
were related to some link controls, and so I removed thecontrols
and the boxes went away. This time, it's been caused by apparently
too many links (internal to the topic itself) that I've used to
present a series of alphabetical links within the topic.
There's nothing in the True Code but the little boxes, so
there's no help there. Any clues?
    Leon

    Good morning Leon
Although I've never personally experienced this, I believe
fellow Adobe Community Expert Peter Grainge has. If I recall
correctly, Peter discovered that sometimes TrueCode may actually
fib to us a bit. (gasp)
Have you tried examining the odd topic(s) using something
like good old simple Windows Notepad? Perhaps it will offer some
clues as to what may be amiss.
    Cheers... Rick

  • White box where swf should be DW CS5.

Now I have another issue. All I want to do is have this site working properly for a select audience. It's a mess otherwise. For some reason I get a white box where my SWF should be. It's important because it' my navigation (another bad idea). It works on every other page just not on this one http://www.creativetroubleshooter.com/landho.htm Any ideas??? Thanks in advance. This group rocks!
PS: Now when I try to previwe in FF or Sarari, DW can't find the server.

For some reason I get a white box where my SWF should be.
Actually it's for a very specific reason, and it's usually always for the *same* reason in every post here....
just not on this one http://www.creativetroubleshooter.com/landho.htm Any ideas???
The file that is pointed to in your page - http://www.creativetroubleshooter.com/flash%20button/green1.swf - is actually here -- http://www.creativetroubleshooter.com/green1.swf. This usually means that the site is not properly defined, or that you made a mistake in linking to the file.

  • White blank before SWF file loads on website

Hello, I am now able to embed SWF files created in Keynote '08 for use as banner or header images on various client websites. I found the perfect code from : http://www.iwebunlimited.com . Now my issue is I am redoing some existing websites that currently have a flash/SWF banner that needs to be reworked as well. On their old website they have a swf banner that loads immediately when landing on the site, where as when i redo the site using iWeb and the new reworked swf banner from Keynote '08 I get a blank white box where the flash file is loading. Is there another part of the code I might be missing that will load the file immediately or am I going to be stuck with a white space in the middle of my custom colour backgrounds?
Here is the current code that I am using in a practice page:
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0, 0" width="500" height="400" align="middle"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.fullcirclemedia.ca/SWF/Localswfer.swf"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" width="500" height="400" align="middle"
    src="http://www.fullcirclemedia.ca/SWF/Localswfer.swf" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed>
    </object>
You can view its placement at: http://www.fullcirclemedia.ca/LocalsTest/Blank.html

That makes sense. The older version is only 1.4 and loops. I wonder why the swf files created in Keynote are larger files than the same dimension swf created in another program. I can't see how I can cut down on the file size of this in Keynote. I have another movie on another site that I have had for years but it was made on a PC with Coffeecup software. I will have to dig and find another Macable program that gives me the same kind of result in a much smaller file or just use my old PC and its Coffeecup I am familiar with to create these.
See the older flash movie at: www.alberniproject.org which is conciderably longer than the one I am asking about in this post. Thanks Toad.

  • White Screen Flashes before SWF plays

    hi,
When you first go to the website I am building you will see a
white screen apear (same size as movie), it's there for maybe a
second then you start to see the loading routine...then it runs ok
from there. Why am I seeing the white screen? The background color
    of the movie is Black.
    Thanks,
    Russ

You need to set the background color in the html object.
Without this parameter, the html will assume that the bgcolor is
white, until the movie loads enough to display something.

  • White background before pushing play and then the menu comes up

After I drag the template and set the buttons, when I burn it and
put the DVD in...the first thing that comes up is the a white background
underneath the buttons. Then when I push play, my template background
shows up before the movies starts.

    Hi
Try in DVDSP Prefrences changing your MEnu Encoding settings from Hardware to Software based, or vice vers, depending what you have selected now.
Build again and try !! That used to solve that problem.
    Hope that helps !

  • Swf won't play after uploading - white box

I've posted a couple of previous times and gotten nothing but
dead air, so I'm still trying to find a way to get flash movies to
just play on a web site. Is it that hard? I hate flash. Why doesn't
    it just work?
I'm trying to put a video gallery up and currently have eight
.swf video clips that all begin downloading simultaneously when the
page is opened, hogging bandwidth that should be reserved for
whatever one video the user chooses. I can't find a way to keep the
clips from downloading until the user clicks the play button. And I
can't put a buffer delay in. Everything I can find on a buffer in
Flash says to change the BufferTimer in the components inspector.
But I HAVE NO BUFFERTIMER IN THE COMPONENTS INSPECTOR!! I've got
Align, AutoPlay, CuePoints, etc., but no BufferTimer! I swear I
must have a faulty version of Flash CS3.
So I'm trying to get around it by using a gallery of images
that link to individual pages with one .swf file. It all tests fine
on my local machine, but once it's uploaded, the gallery images
pull up pages with a big fat white box where the .swf should be.
    What gives?
And while I'm ranting about the difficulties of Flash, I'll
rave about the ease of use of Dreamweaver. Why can't Fl be more
like Dw? ie, coding not required. I've been trying to wrestle this
Flash gallery into reality for more than a week and I'm on the
verge of reverting back to embedded Quicktime files.
BTW, does anyone know of a Flash forum people actually? I
haven't gotten a response at Creative Cow or here.
Sorry for the rant; I'm at my wit's end.

I am having the very same problem. When I post the swf file
and call it up, all I see is a white box with my play button and
stop button at the bottom. Both of these buttons work and it looks
fine once you hit the play button. But I want the swf to come up to
the first frame which should be a picture of a person -- not the
    white box!
Did you ever find out how to fix this problem? I'd be ever so
grateful to get help on this one.
    Thanks!

  • White box of death! Trouble embedding swf into Dreamweaver!

So close to being finished! I notice this question on alot of other forums but its never resolved!
    here is the site now:
    http://http://www.andrewweeksphotogr...m/index_8.html
you will notice a slight flash of a white box before the preloader starts, i'm trying everything to make it go away! this box seems to be the same size as my embedded swf. the site and preloader are all in one swf. all i need to do is make that white box the same color as the background so it is unnoticeable.
here is the code from dreamweaver (you'll notice im sticking in color values wherever i can!)

  • Basic Question, White box while loading

I am sort of a newb at flash. I have an animation for a site I am working on, When it first loads the viewer sees a white box before the animation. What do I do to eliminate that problem?
For reference this is the page I am working on.
    http://www.2ndlookgraphics.com/CMS/index.html

I think that is the answer. I tried it in a browser I had not been using so I believe the cache was clear and I did not get that white box. If you would I would appreciate it if you could try it to to make sure it is fixed.
I sure do appreciate your help!!!

  • Plagued by the white box

i'm trying to embed a flash game i've made onto a tumblr page, and when i first enter the code and update the page the game works, but as soon as i leave and come back or refresh the page it's the white box.
my swf file is hosted on google sites, and my embed code looks like this:
    <embed align="middle" allowscriptaccess="always" height="800" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality="high" src="https://sites.google.com/site/diyinternetart/DIY%20internet%20art_finalforreal.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="1200" style="position: absolute; top: 200px; left: 125px"></embed>
would i need to host the file somewhere else? i've tried it with a couple different swf hosting sites but either the site won't let me embed the file or it will end up like this^
or is it a problem with the code?
i'm using tumblr because i can freely edit the page's entire code without paying for a premium membership
also i used stencyl to make the game because i don't actually have flash

    Change your ... src="https://sites.google.com/site/diyinternetart/DIY%20internet%20art_finalforreal.swf" type="application/x-...
    to ... src="http://sites.google.com/site/diyinternetart/DIY%20internet%20art_finalforreal.swf" type="application/x-...
That will get the linked swf to show up.
