White Box in Illustrator

Why am I getting a white box around an Illustrator image when placed into InDesign?

just to be clear: you are placing (file > place? drag and drop? copy & paste?) an .AI file (not an EPS or JPG made in AI?) into InDesign (into an existing frame? just straight onto the page?) and it has a white box (around the frame? solid colour? a stroke?). Ok?

  • Drop shadow has white boxes Illustrator to Indesign

    MAC OSX G5 Adobe CS2
I know I'm probably being stupid, as no-one else seems to be asking this question, Buuuut...
I've created a logo in Illustrator CS2, applied a dropshadow to a couple of areas of it, and now I want to place into my Indesign artwork. Simple huh?
I get white boxes appearing behind the dropshadow areas, and they are not transparent in Indesign, despite expanding.
    What have I missed?

My apologies - I was a little too curt. I should have pointed out that transparency using spot colors outside of Illustrator does not work unless you turn over-printing on.

  • Why does illustrator create white boxes from shadows when imported into indesign

When a logo created in illustrator cs4 has either shadows applied or gaussian blurs applied on letter shapes and is then put into a frame/picture box in indesign with a coloured background, it brings in white boxes. It does not happen in illustrator when a coloured box is placed on a layer down. If anyone has come across the same problem or knows why it's happening, please let me know. pic attached

look at post 6 which says
Your transparency blend space needs to match you output color space.
To simplify it for now, if you are outputting to a RGB device, change your color mode to RGB before printing. Undo back to cmyk to continue working on the document.
    Does this solve your issue?

Couldn't tell you, I'm afraid. You've posted in the Audition forum, and we only know about sound here. You need to find the Illustrator forum, and post there.

  • I want to place a jpeg graphic in illustrator without a white box

    Hi
I have received a logo from another company for a flyer in a jpeg format. I want to place it in illustrator without a white box around the actual graphic as I am placing it on a coloured background.
I am able to remove the white background using photoshop, however whenever I File>Place or cut and paste the photo as an eps. psd., tif or jpeg, the white background returns. What I am doing wrong?

You need to use a format that supports transparency. JPEG files do not ever support transparency. Open the JPEG in Photoshop and save as PSD. Use Photoshop to create the transparency by either double-clicking on the Background layer and removing the white opaque areas or adding a clipping mask. You can then place the PSD file into Illustrator with transparency intact. Look in Photoshop’s help files for more help with these tasks.

  • Dropshadows with white box from logo created illustrator EPS, HELP?

Does anyone know the best way to keep a dropshadow we created in illustrator for a logo? we have tried a photoshop transparent file, the element created in illustrator (in this case an oval with a blur) and everytime we place in InDesign, we get a white box, frustrating!!!!

By vendor, do you mean the printer? or the client?
    If the client:
    1) Politely say No.
    2) Then explain to them patiently, like to a child how 2+2=4, that EPS is not a valid nor modern file format to use with InDesign and that you are the expert and are being paid for you expertise in such technical design matters.
    3) Otherwise, you take no responsiblity for the output and will have them sign off on that fact to cover your ***.
The client, in my experience, only wants a product that meets or exceeds their expectations. They don't have to know how you did it.
    If a printer:
    1) get him/her to explain why or how it must be EPS in a InDesign workflow. Then if not satisfied with their explanation...
    2) get another printer who is working in the 21st century.

  • White boxes appear around drop shadows in PDF's

I'm exporting a file from InDesign CS3 that contains several graphics that have a drop shadow applied to them (added in InDesign NOT Illustrator). When I view the PDF, there are white boxes that appear behind the graphics with the drop shadows. I need to use the 'Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)' setting from the PDF export dialogue box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Sometimes having drop shadows on images (imported) that have spot colors causes this. Converting them to process or RGB helps. I know that applies to imported graphics but it may apply to graphics created in InD sgn. Are your graphics set up in spot colors?

  • Getting white boxes around images.. help!

I dont know whats going on. I havent used Dreamweaver in a
while and am having an odd issue.
    Located here: www.gwoodsconst.com
I am getting white boxes around the images. Not sure what the
    issues. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Your image contains the white box, not your HTML. If you
created it in a graphics program like Illustrator or Corel, the
anti-aliasing setting at export put a thin blur around the edges to
    visually smooth the image
Crop the image by one or two pixels then reset your sizes so
    it’s not distorted.
    That will fix it.

  • White Boxes from EPS Not Showing Up in INDD CS5

this is kind of lame, but I'm still curious...
I have an Illustrator eps file (CS4) that had black and white shapes, text, etc (very simple), however when I placed the eps file into InDesign (CS5), the white box did not show up. There is a black stroke around the box that appears, however the white does not appear. I went back and drew a new white box, resaved it and the new white box appeared. Any idea why the original file would not have come through properly?
    (PS...I'm using Windows)
    Thanks!

    White set to overprint?
And stop using EPS...it's an archaic file format. Use native AI or PDF from Illustrator for best results.

  • Drop shadow white box

    Hi
I am using Illustrator CS5. I received a logo from the customer with the logotype as vectors but a black drop shadow that had been rasterized, I am assuming , in Illustrator. When I print this logo on a coloured background to my Canon 5180 Image runner a 3% (approx) transparency white box appears around the drop shadow.  How do I delete this??
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you forum gurus.

Print >> Advanced Tab> Click cusotm next to preset (then drag to rasters, and raise resolution to like 900)
If the drop shadow is embedded, it will have an embedded icon (document with triangle and square)
Delete the drop shadow, and recreate the drop shadow to match in illustrator.

  • White box in safari

I have a 3G iphone and opened a safari page for sports illustrated. When the page loaded it also loaded a white box on top of the page. I'm not sure if it was a pop up, but I cannot click the red x to close the page and cannot get rid of the white box. Has anyone had this issue? Thanks in advance.

Could be a flash video, since there is no flash player for iphone.

  • CS5: I often get white box behind logos when importing

This has happened a few times now. I import a logo from CS5 and place over a color background and get a white box. I end up copying the logo from AI and pasting directly into ID. Not an ideal workflow. In the attached, the left image is the Walgreens logo imported into ID and placed over a light tan field. The image on the right is the logo in AI. I put a black background and you can see there is no white box. This is happening whether I import into CS4 or 5. The logo is CS5 AI.

Looks like InDesign is trying to create the transparency, rather than using what Illustrator has defined in the postscript.
Select the placed .ai file, InDesign >> Object >> Clipping Path >> Options >> (Make sure type is set to none, detect edges would cause this)

  • White boxes

Our company still uses FrameMaker 5.5.  I'm having an art issue.  We put color in the background (on the master page).  All art that is linked in the flow of the book has a white box around it.  All of the art is Illustrator lineart saved as an eps.  Is there a way to get rid of the white box that comes in as the same height and width as the art?
Ex - So if you have a 1' blue circle when it is imported in FrameMaker it shows up as a 1' square with a blue circle in it.

Can't test with 5.5, don't see this problem in 7.1.
Are you seeing the problem in print or in final PDF?
Preview images of imports, while editing, are commonly opaque rectangles.
Are the anchoring frames set to fill none, pen none?
If the imported content is raster EPS, does it have a clipping path around the perimeter of the object? If so, be sure to select the object in Frame, and set pen none.
Vector EPS is usually transparent automatically.

  • White box around tif after flatten transparnecy

ok, ive got no help from adobes "chat line"o so far. the tech help apparently read my question then slows the response till i disconnect. here is my hopefully simple questions. i created a design entirely in illustrator. some of the objects i saved as AI and then opened in Photoshop. opening details: crop to: bounding box, anti-aliased: checked, mode: cmyk, bit depth:8......then i did my effects and then saves. save details: ive saved it a few ways trying to resolve my issue. saved as tif with only Layers and ICC profile checked. i also saves as PSD. with same result.
heres the problem, i then open the place the file on the original AI artboard, once i flatten the image a white box shows around my redesigned tif or psd. how can i make this stay transparent?

    diamondwrap,
You placed rather than opened in Illy? Otherwise, what happens if you do?

  • White Box Replaces Imported Logo

Hi, I have a 4 page brochure, that when I print the following happens:
    1. Only 1 of many imported logo prints as a white box
    2. some content doesn't print
    3. an item (north arrow) from my library, prints a white box
    4. the 4th page doesn't print.
    Brochure built in CS3.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Barb

I think the info needed is something like this
You OS and system info, the type of print device you are printing to and also what type of files are imported into your indesign file.
You can make a copy of your file and start removing items one at a time until you figure out which item is causing the issue.
Once you have it narrowed down to the item that causes the problem then you can either go out and resave that item in its native program or resave it in another manner.
For example:  Your offending item is an EPS file created with Illustrator.  Go and resave the file in Illustrator (use a new name for it), and then import the new file in and see if that fixes the issue.  If not open the eps with photoshop and resave as a tiff or PSD if you need transparancy.  Not the best idea to rasterize a file with photoshop, but it may get you around your issue.
