White box on desktop

I Continue to get a box appears on my desktop, then it goes away?
There is a "Character" writing on the top.
How do I make it Stop?

It's not just a problem with Firefox - the same thing sometimes happens with iTunes as well (happened to me just last night). Never seen it with Firefox though.

Column of Little White Boxes On Desktop

There is a strange column of little white boxes in the lower right corner of the desktop. There is a "9.8" over them. What is this?

I don't have the slightest idea what that is, but I have an idea how you can find out.
Log out of your account, then log back in while holding down the shift key until the Desktop appears. That is, enter you user name and password, then hold the shift key and click the "Log In" button. This will prevent your login items from loading. There's no need to reboot at this point. Do you still see the graphic? If not, then it's being drawn by one of the applications you launched the last time you logged in. Go through them until you find it.

[SOLVED] White boxes around desktop shortcuts

Cosmetics question: I'm using Gnome 3 fallback mode, and all the shortcuts that I put on the Desktop have white outlines around them.
I'd like to have just the plain icons. How do I get rid of the white outlines? I've spend quite some time searching for an answer but can't find anything relevant.

White box appears while switching between two desktops

Hello all,
Since few weeks I have a problem when I switch between two Desktops. Everytime I switch between them a white box appears in the left corner of my screen (see screenshot).

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2

Creative Cloud App just showing blank white box! Cannot install Photoshop

I'm trying to install a Photoshop trial - have followed instructions to install the CC app. The icon appears on my desktop and a Creative Cloud folder appears in my Explorer folder but when I click on the CC app, all I see is a white box.
Occasionally, I have managed to get list of apps to show - but when I click on the "Try" button next to Photoshop, again it goes to a blank white box. Can't do anything! No spinning icon showing that something is loading - just blank white.
Very frustrating. Just want to download the trial so I can decide if I want to buy. Am on Windows 8 (64 bit). Have tried uninstalling and re-installing using a different browser (Firefox & Chrome) but still same result.

Hi again Jeff - I just read on a similar thread that another user had the same issue with blank CC app and realised the problem was her username having an ampersand "&"
I have an ampersand also in my username on the computer - do you think this might be affecting the issue?
She gave instructions for changing the username (although the link is for Win 7 and I'm using Win 8) - but I'm nervous about changing big system things like that. What happens to "permissions" on certain folders - am I likely to be locked out of making changes in certain folders?
Here is what she wrote on that thread:
If you have ampersand (&) or other non-alphabet characters in windows user folder name (Example: C:\Users\Bob & Mary), then Flash Builder will fail to install (happened to me), Creative Cloud will display white screen, and/or other miscellaneous problems.
I confirmed this to be true and works:
1) I had blank Creative Cloud window as shown in the first post.
2) I renamed the display username and window user folder name by doing the instructions here:

(Example: Change from "Bob & Mary" to "Bob n Mary" - without the quotes)

I have also since tried uninstally CC, deleting both the OOBE folder and the AAMUpdater folder, then re-installing CC again... same result. I always get to the list of Apps fine but the minute I click on the "Try" button next to Photoshop, the whole App window goes to a blank white screen and freezes.

Mysterious white box appears when project published

Hi all
Another issue. When either either hit F4 to preview a project, or publish it to an .exe, a mysterious white box appears across a few of the slides.
I've hunted for the cause of this box everywhere. It doesn't appear when I preview the same slides using F3. There are no objects in the timelines of those slides that would explain it.
How do I get rid of this box appearing? It makes me want to remove this program from my computer altogether.

The path looks right. On my PC, with Desktop and Admin, my path settings for Discoverer look like this:

I can't see anything wrong with the path. This is very mystifying. I think you may have to speak with Oracle Support. Other than the Discoverer installation being corrupt with one or more files missing I can't think why you would be seeing a white console box. I'll keep researching and if I come upon anything I will let you know. To help I have listed alongside each of my locations the number of files and fodlers I have. If yours is different there is a possibility of a corruption.

Can't import...blank white box

Hi,
I can't seem to import anymore. When I try.....nothing happens (such as the genie effect). Then when I move my cursor over the viewer, a large blank white box appears.
I read another thread that suggested getting rid of the plist. So I tried that and still it doesn't work. I also tried rebuilding the library. This didn't solve it either.
I've restarted and repaired permissions on the computer but none of this helped. Any suggestions? Anyone else had this blank white box problem?

I am running 2.1
After examining the situation more.....I see that this problem exists for any kind of import if it involves the Aperture menu. Or maybe I mean importing from within Aperture. So whether I am using a card reader or importing files on the desktop...this causes the problem described above.
However, if I drag a photo into a project in Aperture from anywhere on my HD, then all seems well. I get the usual "import complete" dialog box. The image is imported and no white or grey box obscuring everything else.

I wish I could figure out what is causing this but at least I can import by dragging "into" Aperture. As long as I do not use the import from within Aperture everything seems okay.

A little white box appears in my browser window, and I am unable to do ANYTHING in Firefox, I can't even close the window.

I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8, so I know that Firefox should be working. The very first time I downloaded Firefox, I was able to use it for about 20 minutes, and then I kept getting some kind of white box (just small) that would pop-up over top of the search bar. Once this box showed up, I was unable to do anything in the browser...I couldn't close it, search, choose "file"...NOTHING. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times, and it still doesn't work.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

How do I close the white box with a keyhole, gear, and lock that sometimes randomly pops up in the upper left of my screen?

Every now and then, a weird white box with a keyhole, gear, and lock pops up in the upper left of my screen. I can't seem to close it or move it, and when I try to use another application, it stays there and blocks features. The only way I've found to make it go away is by force closing Firefox.Why does it pop up and how do I close it? I'm on an iMac, Snow Leopard. Have the latest version of Firefox, 10.0.2.

How do I make a white box in my master page that's intelligent enough to resize on all my other pages depending on the amount of content?

I have a tiled background image but sometimes the white box only covers half the content and my tiled image is displayed under the other half of the content... Do I have to manually make the box for each page or is there a way to attach it to both the header and footer so it expands depending on how much content is on each page while retaining my background image in only the border areas?

Muse doesn't have that specific feature. However, in may cases the desired effect can be achieved by inverting how you think about it.
Using a 100% with rectangle with a fill image for your header and another for your footer, that leaves the page fill and/or background fill image to grow and shrink to fill he space between your header and footer. If you only want one column of your page design to have this effect, you may be able to achieve that using a vertically repeating background fill image for the page or browser fill (where the fill is a horizontal band the with color only where you want the vertical column to appear.

I don't recall this feature on any other version of firefox. For some reason, I can't stop focusing on the fact that every time I scroll over something on a webpage, an annoying white box pops up in the corner of the website displaying the hyperlink, or showing the fact that the link or whatever is loading... it's unnecessary and to me it appears as clutter, especially when I'm browsing a website that has a colored backdrop because then the annoying box pops out even more. The exclamation point occurs when iPhoto breaks/loses the file path to the original file. So try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot AND
the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
