White Canvas

The Canvas remains white unless the timeline is playing. As soon as the timeline stops, the canvas returns to white. The viewer refuses to play while the canvas is playing and vise versa. It's as though the connection between the two has been severed. Please help!

Press Shift-W twice.
Shift-W toggles the Canvas' (and Viewer's) RGB > Alpha > Alpha+RGB setting.
If you press Shift-W once, you'll get a red tint on your Canvas, which means you're in Alpha+RGB mode. To get back to good ol' RGB mode, make sure to press Shift-W twice.
And welcome to the forum.

  • White canvas - not alpha

    Hi all - I am suddenly am getting a white canvas when I play my sequence. I'm not sure what I did. It's in RGB. When it's not playing I can see the image fine.
    Any ideas?

    Go into System Prefences > Displays > Display.
    Change the Colors button from Millions to Thousands and then back to Millions.

  • FCP7: White Viewer and White Canvas (set to RGB)

    Hello,
    I had been using the universal version of the first Final Cut Studio for a few years now without any issue. When I upgraded to FCS3, I can't get FCP7 to show any footage (or even Color Bars) in the Viewer or Canvas. You hear the audio of the footage but it's all WHITE. Both frames are set to RGB (not alpha).
    I have fully re-installed FCP7 but I still see the same results. It doesn't seem to matter what easy setup I use either.
    I can take the same DV or HDV footage and play it in Quicktime outside of FCP7 so I'm confident that my onboard graphics card is not having some sort of trouble.
    I have a case open with AppleCare but so far they have not resolved this issue.
    Is this White Viewer and Canvas issue happening to anyone else here?
    Thanks.

    Trash your preferences?
    #44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
    Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
    If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • Creating a photo canvas

    I just purchased Adobe Photoshop 10.  I am having trouble with creating a new canvas. I open a new blank canvas... choose the size I would like...make the grid show and then snap the grid.  Then try to open my pictures to be placed on the canvas...BUT my pictures open and go right to the white canvas instead of just being opened individually. I have watched many tutorials and follow them completely, but opening my pictures is just not working. Any suggestions?

    Open your picture files in Elements, and minimize each one
    Go to File>new>blank file, and enter h&w, and resolution (ideally the same value as the pictures). Do the math: the canvas has to provide sufficient real estate to accommodate the pictures.
    Drag the pictures from  the project bin to the canvas, or copy/paste. I prefer the latter. In order to do that, for each picture, go to Select>all,  then Edit>copy to put it on the clipboard.
    Go back to the canvas, then Edit>paste.
    Access the move tool to position the picture(s) with the move tool and to resize with the corner handles of the bounding box.
    Each picture should be on its own layer. Highlight the layer at issue for subsequent adjustments
    Forget about snap to grid. The grid may help you with orientation if configured properly via Edit>preferences.

  • White ring around PSD images

    hi,
    i'm noticing a one pixel white ring around photoshop images I bring into FCP.
    Anyone else have this problem? What am I doing wrong.
    Thanks,
    Chase Roberts

    Yes, I'm new here AND new to anything MAC and FCP. On top of all else, this is my first series of HD projects with a nasty deadline. I do need this forum and want be helpful too. I'll describe the workflows!< </div>
    Unsolicited advice: Accepting a job on a deadline that depends upon applications about which you know little is bad, really bad. You need more time and experience, neither of which we can provide.
    I haven't been following the whole thread so you may have already eliminated this. Here's my suggestion: Change the canvas to black on one simple element, create a new alpha, flatten it, import it.
    Most Photoshop people have no clue about video. They create on a white background because they print inks on white paper. Video is black; how would they know that unless they're video people? Saving the alpha when using a white canvas ***** in billions of white pixels from the edges of everything. If you antialias, you actually pick up more white and grey pixels.

  • Set Canvas/Artboard to exact page size?

    Hi guys,
    I am making a website on Illustrator 1,200 px 1,200 px. When i export it to .PSD i open it as a much larger file in pixels than this and with a whole Canvas/Artbord white area which i don't need.
    Is there any way to keep the page size like the final ouput without the white canvas area in the export?
    Thanks!
    Sebs.-

    Save for web >> image size tab >> check clip to artboard.

  • White background appears grey

    Still trying to learn my D7000 and still have lots of questions!!!!!
    Yesterday, I took a number of experimental shots (a red phone cord lying on a white background). The white background (an artists white canvas lying on the floor) was well lit from above using 5600K lights.
    The shots were all taken using auto focus, auto exposure, etc and in the view finder everything appeared to be correct, but on later viewing the photos, the white background appears to be grey.
    I have attached a sample image to show the grey colour.
    Can anyone explain why the background is grey --- especially when using the auto mode when taking the photos.
    I am not concerned about the picture quality only the grey background and I did not undertake a WB as I thought that this was part of the auto mode when taking the photo. the shot was taken by half pressing the shutter release butto to ensure that everything was OK then continuing to fully press the button.
    Any assistance will be greatly appreciated

    Thank you for the information.
    In the viewfinder while taking the photos the background appeared to be fully white and when looking at the canvas, there was no obvious sign of any colour variation.
    Also, I was under the impression that when using auto mode, that everything (including automatic white balancing) was done for you by the camera.
    This camera is sure different to my trusty old Nikon F3 ---- looks like I will have to go back to the book and undertake a lot more reading (only up to page 50 so far!!!!!!!).

  • How to control canvas color with preview/automator image conversion

    I am using an automator workflow (image attached showing workflow) to scale and pad (change canvas size of) images that I am uploading to a website. However, some images will end up having a black canvas while others will have a white canvas post-conversation. I would like all converted images to have a white canvas. Is there a way to ensure this?

    Here's a solution that works:

  • Center image on canvas

    Hi,
    the following code scales an image (srcImage) to a maximum size (maxSize).
    My aim is to center this image on a square canvas of maxSize.
    The existing code so far:
      public BufferedImage fitImage(BufferedImage srcImage, int maxSize)
        // determine scaling factor for optimal fitting
        double scaleX = (double) maxSize/srcImage.getWidth();
        double scaleY = (double) maxSize/srcImage.getHeight();
        double scale = Math.min(scaleX, scaleY);
        // blur image
        if (scale <= 0.5)
          int radius = (int) Math.floor(1 / scale);
          srcImage = blur(srcImage, radius);
        // create new image buffer
        int newWidth = (int) (srcImage.getWidth() * scale);
        int newHeight = (int) (srcImage.getHeight() * scale);
        WritableRaster dstRaster = srcImage.getRaster().createCompatibleWritableRaster(newWidth, newHeight);
        BufferedImage dstImage = new BufferedImage(srcImage.getColorModel(), dstRaster, false, new Hashtable());
        // scale image
        AffineTransformOp op = new AffineTransformOp(AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(scale, scale), AffineTransformOp.TYPE_BILINEAR);
        op.filter(srcImage, dstImage);
        return dstImage;
      }Any hints how to do this?
    Cheers
    Jonny

    Hi Darryl,
    Thanks for your great help.
    I think we partitially talked at cross-purposes, because of my bad description of the problem. My bad!
    My aim was to first proportionally scale down an image to either x or y in maxSize.
    Then draw it on a (white) canvas with size x: maxSize, y: maxsize.
    For now I solved it this way:
    public BufferedImage fitImage(BufferedImage srcImage, int maxSize)
        // determine scaling factor for optimal fitting
        double scaleX = (double) maxSize/srcImage.getWidth();
        double scaleY = (double) maxSize/srcImage.getHeight();
        double scale = Math.min(scaleX, scaleY);
        // blur image
        if (scale <= 0.5)
          int radius = (int) Math.floor(1 / scale);
          srcImage = blur(srcImage, radius);
        // create new image buffer
        int newWidth = (int) (srcImage.getWidth() * scale);
        int newHeight = (int) (srcImage.getHeight() * scale);
        WritableRaster dstRaster = srcImage.getRaster().createCompatibleWritableRaster(newWidth, newHeight);
        BufferedImage dstImage = new BufferedImage(srcImage.getColorModel(), dstRaster, false, new Hashtable());
        // scale image
        AffineTransformOp op = new AffineTransformOp(AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(scale, scale), AffineTransformOp.TYPE_BILINEAR);
        op.filter(srcImage, dstImage);
        BufferedImage canvasImage = new BufferedImage(maxSize, maxSize, srcImage.getType());
        Graphics2D g2 = canvasImage.createGraphics();
        g2.setColor(Color.WHITE);
        g2.fillRect( 0, 0, maxSize, maxSize );
        g2.drawImage( dstImage,
            ( maxSize - dstImage.getWidth( null ) ) / 2,
            ( maxSize - dstImage.getHeight( null ) ) / 2,
            null );
        return canvasImage;
      }If someone has a better way (I bet there is one) feel free to tell me.
    Cheers
    Jonny

  • How do I eliminate the canvas background?

    I created a logo that I wish to begin using for print and online. Because of the canvas, I have a white rectangle background. It's ok for white paper for print, but not OK for website with a colored background. How do I get rid of the white canvas background?

    If the logo is on it's own layer, simply delete the background layer and save it out as a transparent image. If they're on the same layer, you could use the magic eraser tool and click on all the white areas to turn them transparent.

  • Canvas scaling

    Hi all,
    I'm not sure if this should go here or in the graphics 2d forum .. I'll try here first.
    I'm also not sure what to call this, hence the name "Canvas scaling". What I want to do is similar to "resize canvas" in photoshop (or many other image editing software packages). I've got a BufferedImage, and I'd like to essentially resize the image to a larger size, but I don't want the actual pixels to change, rather I'd like to have the image pasted into a new image that is just a blank, white pixels, in the correct new size.
    Any ideas on how to do this? I'm pretty new to JAI / Java 2D -- although my current code is successful at resizing the image.
    Thanks,
    -d

    I only know how to approach this from a JAI ImageIO way. There is pobably a better way... In fact, I'd really really like to hear it if anyone knows a better way to do this.
    In any case, here's how I do it:
              //Get an ImageReader ("reader") that will read the existing page,
              //read the currPage as a BufferedImage and called it "page"
              //Get the image type specifier for the current page. This contains
              //a bunch of details about the make up of the current image, such
              //as color model, bit depth, and image type.
              ImageTypeSpecifier imgSpecifier = reader.getRawImageType(currPage);
              int width = page.getWidth();
              int height = page.getHeight();
              //Create a compatible buffered image, using the image type specifier,
              //that has the new page dimensions.
              BufferedImage newImage = imgSpecifier.
                   createBufferedImage(width+WIDTH_INCREASE, height+HEIGHT_INCREASE);
              //Get a drawable surface from the created image
              Graphics2D canvas = newImage.createGraphics();
              //clear the new image with all white
              canvas.setColor(Color.WHITE);
              canvas.fillRect(0, 0, newImage.getWidth(), newImage.getHeight());
              //draw the original image into the new image
              canvas.drawImage(page, null, 0, 0);
              page = newImage;Still, I'd be very interested to hear other people's ideas. This works great for me, but I'm always open to clean and efficient code.

  • Photos app bug resurrects long-removed photos (related to PNG alpha)

    Wanted to report/discuss a possible privacy concern and image glitch, and understand it better for submission to Apple's feedback page: the iPad (and maybe iPhone) Photos app will consitently resurrect long-deleted photos in your Camera Roll, under certain circumstances. These are long-removed photos (as in removed many months ago, prior to the iOS 5 update), and possibly only the reduced-size thumbnail versions.
    Note: as near as I can tell, the deleted photos were NOT originally from the camera roll! That's where they resurface, but I believe they are photos from other albums, maybe once which used to by synched to iPad but which I no longer synch. So "removed" might mean deleted or it might mean "no longer synched to iPad"... the images are so old I can't recall.
    So the bug, I'm guessing, it two-fold:
    1) The Photos app (and/or iPhoto during wired synch?) is not fully removing photos (or at least, their thumbs). They're no longer visible in Photos app, but are being retained somewhere on the device.
    2) A glitch in the Photos camera roll PNG handling (which I think may be new with iOS 5) causes those old images ro re-surface when you add a PNG to the camera roll. (The old photos were JPEG, but the image that triggers the bug must be a PNG with alpha channel)
    I have seen this on both an iPad 1 and iPad 2, running iOS 5.
    Here's how to reproduce it:
    1) Synch some photos to your iPad, then deselect them for synching and re-synch (so they're not there any more). Also, add some photos or screenshots to the camera roll and then delete them. I say to do both because I'm not 100% where the old photos come from, and I'm hoping this covers all bases! Actually, most people have already done these things in the past, and can probably skip this step.
    2)  Generate a transparent PNG using the art app Procreate (and probably any app that saves PNGs to the camera roll with alpha channel). All you have to do is scribble somethign into a blank Procreate canvas, then export it to your photo album. There is no need to do anything special to get an alpha channel or PNG format: you always get that. (Unless you used the Fill command to completely cover the canvas.) Now in the camera roll there should be your scribble on a transparent background. You can email it to yourself and see that clearly in Photoshop or Preview.
    3) Here's the glitch: look at your camera roll (thumbnails view) and you'll see that the alpha-transparent background of the image has become one of your old removed photos! Tap it to enlarge and the alpha becomes black (which is fine, although it may seem odd if you intended to paint onto the default white canvas). But for just a moment, before you see the black, you will get a full-size glimpse of the old photo. (Or, maybe, an enlargement of the thumbnail?)
    4) If you keep saving more alpha PNGs, you'll keep seeing more and different old photos coming back to life in the alpha regions of the thumbnails (and, briefly, at full size).
    5) If you delete all those PNGs and then save some new ones, you'll see the same sequence of old photos reappear again.
    Needed fix: removed phtos/thumbnails should be properly purged, and alpha PNGs should show simply black (or some default background) at all times.

    Ok, I replicated it and I don't like it! I didn't use the one you marked cause I couldn't call it up properly but I did Bing
    transparent gifs and loaded up 3, one was totally invisible in the thumbnail and I could clearly see one of my pics perfectly in the thumbnail but when I brought it to page the gif filled the frame.
    I have no idea where the pic came from, I mean I recognize it but from where in the album I have no idea.
    Oh yeah, I was wrong about the first pic coming to page, it wasn't the same image but a different one...and I have no idea how the one that came up, (what i thought was the underlying pic) did, or how it got there or even from where.
    This is some weird stuff though not as weird as that silly *** movie, what a load of tripe; I should have just spent my
    time on this, it's infinitely more enjoyable!
    Ok, here's the consensus from my layman iPad view:
    What happened now and most probably before was a 'transparent gif' or a partially transparent gif like the one I spoke of first that I could see the edge of or the outer perimeter of, the underlining image with the gif taking up say 3/4 of the thumbnail; this it what it was.
    This is totally apparent to me now because of your having me import a totally transparent gif which was invisible over my pic, thus the freaky part I didn't like...keying the thumbnail with one thing and ending up with something totally different when brought to page.
    Still doesn't explain where this silly iPad is grabbing these pics from?
      But here's something funny; my camera roll shows say 9,200 pics but my, 'iMy System' app say I have like 11,300 which I always thought was a fluke, that it was just reading wrong but maybe it's seeing something we're not.           What if all those pics we're deleting to save space or just generally culling have never left the system?                     Maybe that goofy app is really reading the true count!
       Those others up above us here who mentioned privacy concerns.. this could be whats going on, there's a ghost
    in the machine and it be our old pics and god knows what else floating around in that iPads memory.
    Ok, I'm crazy tired and I have to wrap this up. Least now we know how to replicate this but on the other hand I think we opened up an even bigger can of worms... the mystery of where all those images are hiding in our iPads?
    I haven't hardwired to a computer since I upgraded to ios5 so whatever's going on here, leastwise for me is iPad
    based and can't be blamed for synching issues like you discuss up above unless what I'm grabbing here is old stuff
    reimported back into my pad from the mainframe when I was backed up for the ios5 upgrade?
    Oh well, let me know what you think. Please do forgive my not getting back to you sooner on account of the movie
    but you already know I regret choosing that over this! Hope you had a good night and thanks...

  • When I resume my laptop from sleep/hiberante, firefox is hung. It will prompt me with a dialog when I quit, so it is still running, but the page display is blank and will not refresh. I noticed this since about beta 7

    Firefox is running when my laptop comes out of system standby, but the page that was displaying when the laptop went into sleep mode is now a white canvas that does not refresh.
    The application is not hung, because I get prompted to save tabs when I quit, but for some reason, I can't prompt Firefox into refreshing the screen.
    I'm running Firefox on a Thinkpad T400 which has Intel 4 series Express integrated Graphics.

    This also happened if the network adapter is disabled then enabled. My computer is Windows 7 x64. Firefox needs to be killed from taskman before it will load a new instance of the application. I can also reproduce with all add-ons disabled.

    With "the browser opening a white page" do you mean that the Forms Java applet won't start at all or is it starting with a Forms with a white canvas without any items on it?
    If it is the first (Java not starting) there must be something wrong with your Forms setup. First try to run with the default setup without specifying a form. It should display test.fmx that it is included with the Forms setup. This Forms just tells you the setup succeeded and displays a single OK button
