White Dot top left of screen that is not a stuck pixel

Hi,
Along with the colour shift issue (that seems to be gone when not on full bright?) I also have a white pixel whenever a full screen application runs (eg DVD Player, Aperture).
It is not stuck because when the screen saver comes on it isn't there. Strange one hey, any ideas?

  • Little White Dot on left hand of screen

Hey guys I have this little white dot on the left hand side of my screen. It seems to be dead center vertically and is just a 3 or 5 millimeters from the left edge. I think it's slightly larger than a single pixel (maybe two?). It's not a stuck pixel. It goes away if I put something darker behind it but if there's something white or very light behind it the spotter stands out as brighter than the rest.
I noticed it a month or so ago. I tried stuck pixel fixers but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm way out of warranty so i can really only do home fixes. It's not a huge deal but it gets kind of annoying cause once I notice it keep nagging at the back of my mind until I leave my computer for a while and forget about it.
Anyway I used it for over a year before noticing it so I think it appeared a while after I bought it but I don't know exactly when. I was thinking maybe the LCD backlight got jostled or something and now has a little bit of focus on the spot along with regularly lighting the rest of the screen. just a theory...
So do you guys have any ideas and hopefully easy home fixes that don't risk my computer's functioning?

I have this same issue. I have two small white smug looking spots that showed up about two month ago. It’s is really apparent when the Apple default blue screen at boot up.
I went to the Genius Bar last night to have another issue looked at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1882651&tstart=0 and I inquired what those white dots/smudges were.
“The Genius” said they are what they call bruises. Bruises caused by pressure applied in a concentrated area on the screen. I asked how that was possible when I carry my MBP in a case inside my bag. He then explained that anything could cause this and most likely was gripping the case of the computer when closed. He also went on to explain that this was not covered by the normal Mfg. warranty or the extended service plan.

With Safari open, press Command ,   (comma) to open Safari Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
Turn that off, quit (or force quit) Safari then relaunch to test.

  • IPad 3 white dot on start up screen not dead pixels?

    Hi everyone,
I just bought my new iPad around a week ago and everytime I turn it on I'm getting like 1 or 2 white dots on the loading screen around the apple logo.
They can't be dead pixels cause they kind flicker and disappear anyone notice this and is it normal?
    Thanks,

    Anto2012-
I'm not sure what the little dots are, but I see that when I have Apps on more than one page of the Home screen, there are more dots near the bottom of the screen.  It appears that the dot that is brighter indicates which page you are looking at.  If you only have one page of Apps, then there is only one dot with something like a tiny magnifying glass on its left.
If you swipe to the right, you bring up the keyboard for the search function.  When you swipe back to the left, you can see that the magnifying glass is bright, and then see it jump back to the right-hand dot.
At least that is what I observe on my iPad 2!

I found an answer to this on another page (I was having the same problem) This worked for me:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.

  • Most websites, including Mozilla, now have a locked banner at the top of the screen that blocks off some, or much more of my laptop screen, how can I stop this

Apparently we have forgotten how to scroll up to find the search field, donate button, etc. and website "designers" now include a locked banner at the top of your screen that you cannot close but remains in place as you scroll through what remains of the visible field to view half pictures, partial paragraphs, etc. Some of these are enormous, most of a middle size and some are thinner. None are necessary but fit neatly under the heading, "Just because you can does not mean you should." which programmers seem to disregard at will. Is there some way for me to maintain (re-establish) my possession of my desktop when visiting sites? These stupid and obstructive are unneeded and Mozilla ought to be ashamed that I am looking at "Mozilla support" at the upper left of my desktop, yes, I know I am in Mozilla support and haven't forgotten it since I got here, and "ÏNBOX" "Search Mozilla Support" at the upper right of my desktop. I haven't forgotten how to scroll up if I needed to search support, either...

We are simultaneously getting bigger and bigger monitors and smaller and smaller handhelds, so it's a challenge to serve the right page for your display. But I digress...
Those fixed bars are created using the style rule <code>position:fixed</code>. In some cases, the rule is added dynamically when you scroll the page, while in other cases, it is fixed full-time. Because you may actually want some elements to be fixed, it is difficult to create a fix-all solution that will work well for all sites.
For ad hoc page hacking, you could try this extension that allows removal of items using the right-click context menu:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nuke-anything-enhanced/
Sometimes it might take two clicks to find the outermost element (otherwise, you might leave a blank area instead of getting rid of the whole thing.
Some users use the Adblock Plus extension to hide page elements they don't want to see; I don't have any experience with that.
If there are particular sites you need help with, we might be able to create a custom style rule for you to override the way the page behaves. The best approach depends on exactly how it works.

  • Anyone else have a little white box, top left of browser window???

After the new big update, (that still wont allow changing the color of the arrange window...)  I notice I have a little white box top left of my browser window, in logic of course, that actually only shows up while cursor is moving.  Not a big deal, but I feel it may be associated with a new problem.  The browser window is how i usually go through my personal samples, not apple loops.  And normally, I open the folder, and play the first file via space bar, or little speaker icon.  Then I just arrow down, as fast or slow as i please, and they continue to play, without having to hit space bar or speaker icon.  No longer.  I have to hit play at every file, UNLESS I manage to skip to the next before current is done playing.  Not a huge problem, but when your riffling through a folder with 300 kick drums that are only a half a second long, it can ruffle your feathers.  I dont recall ever setting a prefference or a setting, but perhaps one exists..?  Any help would be appreciated.

I'd send some feedback to the Logic Devs... to bring back the old functionality, if I were you....
    https://www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.html
...as they are not here....... and therefore dont tend to read posts here unfortunately...
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5671
As for the spacebar problem you are having... Not happening here... unless I put the focus on the arrange window.. Click on one of the sample in the browser window and then the focus is on the browser window and the spacebar starts playing the samples... and not the project.
    Cheers..

I use Yahoo Calendar on my IPhone.  For whatever reason when I go into my calendar I will see at the top of the screen that 5 or 6 "calendars" are being used and one of them is the one I called Dana_Gardner and is legitimate, the others are randomly named with letters and numbers. Why is the IPhone creating additional "calendars"? I only asked for one to be set-up. I don't understand, I have to go into the calendar settings daily and uncheck these un-asked for calendars. Help!

Mine is doing the same thing.  I deleted the whole account from the mail settings and it got rid of most of the extra calendars.  But there are still 2 gibberish ones left.

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can clear some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup.

  • Having to press top left of screen to get headphones to play in stereo

When I plug in headphones I get music only from left side, but when I press top left of screen I then get stereo. When I release the pressure it goes back to mono.
    Anyone know a fix.??
I've checkd the mono switch is off in settings.
ps: the top left side of the screen  feels slightly raised.
    Thanks.

Take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
There is obviously a hardware issue, likely from the device being dropped.
