White dotted flashing lines

During movie play back of .avi files on both my Quicktime and Divx applications most of my files have been corrupted with a white dotted hash line down the right side of the screen which flashes ever second. Its very annoying and i cant seem to get rid of it, much less figure out where its comming from. My files are stored on an external hard drive but that doesnt seem to be the problem. If anyone could shine some light on how to remove the lines or prevent them, that would be very helpful.

Hi Martin,
Sorry to learn about your problems with the flashing pixels. Have you contacted Lenovo support yet? You might need another LCD panel installed to correct that issue.

  • White dots and lines are flickering through my iPad Air's screen and sometimes I have to hard reboot to get the screen to work...ideas?

    I just got this iPad Air (32 GB wi-fi only) brand new from an Apple store on Saturday, so it's definitely not an issue of wear and tear. Basically, it looks like my iPad has bad TV reception, there's snow everywhere and lines running up and down the screen occasionally. It's not immediately noticeable, but once you do notice it you realize that it's on the entire screen. I managed to make it go away once by rebooting it which I found odd. I noticed this last night. Today, it was working fine when I woke up but a few hours later the screen wouldn't turn on. I could use Siri still so I knew the iPad was on and funtional, but I couldn't see anything. I managed to finally get it to work by hard rebooting it (Hold down top button + home) and it came alive again, but still has the snow. I rebooted it again and it didn't go away this time. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so is there anything I can do short of taking it into a store to get it replaced? It's obviously still under warrenty and I took Apple Care on it, so I'm not frantic about this, but if there's a DIY fix out there that would be great.

    If the machine matches your profile, Mac OS X (10.7.4), iMac 27', 2012 model, refurbished, then it should be covered under the first year of use. Contact Apple's Express Lane and verify. If it is, then after getting it fixed, purchase AppleCare—the cheapest insurance policy available for Macs.

  • Black screen with white flashing line on startup

    ~computer info~
    Mac OS X Version 10.6.7

    Hello; I've recently encountered a problem with bootcamp that I can't find a solution to... Every time I start up the computer in boot camp, all I get is that black screen with the white flashing line. It comes up, goes to a plain black screen, then quickly comes up again. It never stops, either. I've let it run, and it won't finish.
    I've had the partition for MONTHS now, and nothing like this has happened. I've had it since I upgraded to Snow Leopard awhile back, and needed to re-partition the drive. I literally had been using it the day before it happened, and the only thing that happened was that I got that "Windows Security 2011" malware, but I got rid of it fully (As I've gotten it 3 times this month). The other two times I got it, it didn't do anything. I fixed it, and went on with life. But is it possible that it broke something in the partitions inner files this time?
    I ran disk utility, and it said the partition was broken. After verifying it and confirming this, I did "Repair Drive", as it allowed me to. It finished with no errors and said it completed, so I tried to go back into the partition, but it gave me the same results.
    To be honest, most of my stuff is on my External Harddrive, so re-doing the partition is only going to be time used to me. But I still DO have things on there, and it'd be a pain to transfer them back and forth between the Mac and Windows partitions... I'd really like to know if there's anyway to fix this, or if it's just going to fall back to me re-partitioning the drive...
    Thanks for the help in advance.

    That blinking line is a "cursor."  It's only supposed to show for a second or two as your iMac switches to and then starts Windows.  But as you indicate here, it's not getting past the cursor..
    Disk Utility can repair FAT volumes, but it cannot correct issues caused by corrupted items which, if the volume was repaired, there may be some.
    Since we are dealing with a Windows boot partition, it's entirely possible that the repairs inadvertently corrupted the data Windows needs to start and run.  It's also posible that Mac OS, in fixing the Boot Camp volume, overwrote the existing boot record in the Windows partition with a generic, though non-bootable version.
    Windows' own CHKDSK should have been used to make the repairs rather than the OS X Disk Utility, which would have avoided this worst-case scenario in data recovery.  CHKDSK has a special version of itself on the Windows disc, which may be accesed by using the Windiws Recovery Consile upon pressing R during the "Welcome to Setup" screen.
    Though it appears ftom my position here that you will need to reinstall XP, it may yet be possible to recover data that hasn't been copied to the external HDD.  For this task, I'd like to recommend that you start up in Mac OS for the time being, and pull any new or changed items from the Boot Camp volume except for installed software; the latter are nearly impossible to transport with reasonable accuracy, and should instead be reinstalled.
    Once you have what you need, format your Boot Camp volume and reinstall Windows, this time selecting NTFS as your filesystem.  NTFS is the preferred option for Windows in general, thiaks to its innate file access controls as well as the ability to compress or encrypt data "on the fly."  NTFS can be read by Mac OS X, but not written from it, thus NTFS volumes cannot be altered except by Windows itself..  But it is also a requirement if you plan to upgrade your unit using Windows 7 in future.

  • Firefox 5 upgrade showing my Flash website with dotted grey lines around it-- how do I get rid of them?

    After upgrading to Firefox 5 on my 15" MacBook Pro, I'm seeing dotted grey lines on the border of my embedded SWF file of my website. After googling around, I see people were having this problem as far back as Firefox 3. I somehow was not. However, this is highly annoying and unprofessional!
    My site is based in (I know I know) AS1 embedded into a Dreamweaver HTML page. I need to know what code I can add to the page in order to make these stupid borders go away. I've tried various style tags for both the object and for the general style in the head tag. No luck. My site is http://www.andreabakacs.com/index-flash.html

    I've seen this issue mentioned as well and it only seems to happen on Mac.<br />
    I'm not seeing it on Linux.

  • A white dotted line just suddenly appear across my screen

    my laptop  is hp pavillon 15 notebook  ([edited])
    After visiting the game app on my desktop. i noticed a white dotted line across the screen of my laptop.
    what could be the cause? and will it go away?

    Hello @kenny118 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I understand you have a white dotted line across the screen of your display.
    It would help to know which product and operating system you are using. It looks like you've posted the serial number instead. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?
    The easiest way to tell if this is an issue with the display or graphics card (GPU) is to try an external monitor. If the issue is present on another display, you're looking at a hardware or software issue with the GPU. If the line is not present on the external monitor it's an issue with the display.
    Line on monitor:
    Update the GPU drivers from this website: Drivers & Downloads.
    System restore to before the issue started. Tap F11 while the notebook boots to access the HP Recovery Manager.
    No line on monitor:
    Reseat to display cable connection. I can provide more info on this once you've provided the product number for the notebook.
    Contact HP Phone support for service options: You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.

  • Bad video...columns of small white dots, pixelation

    Can anyone help me...i've had the apple tv for some time and now i get inconsistent video quality. Just started several months ago. white dot columns, pixilation are the problems, any suggestions?

    I have the same problem with mine starting tonight, and I'm pretty sure the internal video card is going bad.
    I bought mine years ago during the first few days after the ATV was released. It was running OS 3.02 as of tonight. When I "restore" it installs version 1.0, but the "dots or lines in video problem" is still seen in the menus. And after the restore it started to lock up randomly, with nothing on it, just by going through the menus.
    I'm leaving it unplugged to see if the problem is over-heating, but it's not any hotter than usual.

  • Flash line chart: manipulating the line and data point

    In Apex 3.1 Flash line chart
    Is there a way to change the line thickness and suppress the circular data point? We think it looks cartoonish and ugly especially when there are many data points.
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Hello,
    Use Custom XML in the Chart attributes and replace the line_chart section with:
          <line_chart left_space="5" right_space="5">
            <block_names enabled="no" />
            <dots type='circle' radius='2' />
            <lines size='1' auto_color='yes' tone='0xFFC700' color='0xC1C1C1' />
          </line_chart>I've put the example here also: http://examples.apex-evangelists.com/pls/apex/f?p=286:34:0
    If you come to ODTUG, OOW or our "European Apex Training Days" I'll go into more depth about all this.

  • 2d Flash Line Graph Issues

    Hi,
    I am editing the xml for the 2d flash line graph, and having difficulty performing some customisations.
    Could anyone assist with the following:
    1) Changing the default line colours. I have 4 series. Changing the following does not change the line colours:
    <line_chart left_space="5" right_space="5">
    <block_names enabled="no" />
              <dots radius="1"/>
              <lines size="1" auto_color="no" color="blue"></lines>
              <lines size="1" auto_color="no" color="red"></lines>
              <lines size="1" auto_color="no" color="green"></lines>
              <lines size="1" auto_color="no" color="pink"></lines>
    </line_chart>
    2) Is there any way to add commas (thousands) to the Y axis labels?
    Many thanks for any assistance with these
    Steve

    Hi Ben,
    Yes I was looking at that, but just discovered that I can do the following:
    <values show="no" thousand_separator="," />
    and it seems to do it.
    I am now having REAL issues with the X and Y axis formatting. I am including font nodes inside the y_axis / x_axis nodes (as per anychart 3 docs) but the formating properties are not changing the axis labeling:
    <!--
    <y_axis name="Water Injected (&P320_UNITS.)" smart="yes" direction="horizontal" rotation="-90" position="left_center" >
    <font size="20" type="Verdana" color="" bold="" italic="" underline="" align="left"/>
    </y_axis>
    <x_axis name="" smart="no" direction="horizontal" rotation="-90" position="top">
    <font size="20" type="Verdana" color="" bold="" italic="" underline="" align="left"/>
    </x_axis>
    -->
    do you have any experience with doing this?
    thanks again

    Hello everyone.

    On my Nokia, nothing seems wrong, but if I send a picture in a multimedia message or transfer it to my PC, it's full of white dots. It's very annoying.

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

    My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds,but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My iPod Touch 4G's screen has gone white and has lines on the screen. How do I fix it? Help!

    Hello everyone,
    I've had an iPod Touch 4th generation for a few years now, and, today, for the first time, the screen has gone white and their are vertical lines on it. What happened was I accidentally dropped my iPod Touch on tile and it landed on its back. I tried it out right afterwards to see if it was still working and it seemed like it was perfectly fine. Later on, I got an email from one of my friends, so I slid the email button on the lock screen to see the email. In the email, there was a link to a gif image, so I opened it in Safari. After I was done with it, I closed that tab. I also had a second tab open from earlier, so I wanted to close that tab as well. When I clicked on the button to see all tabs and close one, the screen completely froze. I held on to the on/off button on the top of the iPod, and, after about a minute, the screen switched to a completely white screen with lines on it. I've tried holding onto the on/off button again and it doesn't work. I also tried plugging it into my Windows 7 computer and opening iTunes, but my computer doesn't even recognized it is plugged in. It won't appear under the "computer" section in Windows Explorer, which will allow me to do USB-related tasks with it. iTunes doesn't recognize that it is plugged in either, so I can't do anything like restore the iPod to factory settings. The home button on my iPod hasn't been working for a while so i've always been using the accessibility feature that gives me a home button on the screen. Now that I can't access that, I can't hold down both the on/off button and the home button at the same time. What should I do? Should I send it in to Apple for repairs (which I won't do and would rather buy a new iPod Touch)? I am thinking of just leaving it to, hopefully, have the battery drain and the iPod would die. Then, I could charge it and see what happens. Other than that, i'm just clueless right now and I have no idea what I should do. Please help me!
    My iPod Touch is an iPod Touch 4th generation model with 8GB. It is running iOS 5.1.1.
