• Removing white edges

Hello,
I have a picture that I have extracted from its background in photoshop. Then I place it on another background in my Indesign file. The edges on the picture appear as a fine white line.
Is there a way in Indesign to make the edges of a picture transparent?
Thank you

As a mere technical footnote to that, the white edges appear because you selected them to be white ...
GIF does not support alpha-level transparency (any level from 0 to 100%) -- it is limited to either transparent or not. Since GIFs are usually used on web pages, and should have visually smooth edges even with this on-off transparency, Photoshop can interpolate the edge colors.  The Save-For-Web dialog (which you presumably used) has an option to change the "background color" -- which is the color on which the image would be placed. Those are stil solid colors, not transparent: the proper alpha mix of the would-be background and the edge color.
(And if you are thinking "That must mean I can change the background to the color I used in my document", go back and read Scott's message.)

• Removing unwanted white edges from a checkbox (radiobutton)

Is there a way to remove the white edges of a radiobutton ( by making the edges transparant or something like that?)
see:
http://www.spymac.com/gallery/data/500/11225unwantededges.GIF
thanks in advance.

try to set the background color of the checkbox to the background color of the panel or frame you are using.
checkbox1.setBackground(getBackground()); // assuming you are calling this function in the parent panel or frame.
Hope that works.

• Newbie Problem, White edges when using colors?

Hi, I am new to illustrator, and this problem has been bothering me forever. I have googled beyond belief, but no answer. Maybe I am using the wrong terminology? Not sure. But overall, when I create things in illustrator, and use color, there are white edges around everything. Example below.
Also the colors I choose don't seem to be the ones that show up. Like, for the example above, I chose a deeper purple, but a lighter purple came out. I guess illustrator is A LOT different than photoshop.

well, i recently had something like that too.
I just couldnt figure out why it was showing up.
Untill i began looking at the layers.
It seemed that somehow some layers got duplicated and stuff.
So i recommend that you have a look at your layers and check for unwanted duplicates.

• White edges on PDF page

Hi there. I am currently producing a newsletter and have found that, once converted into a pdf file, very fine white edges are becoming visible on the document. I have laid down on the page a few images and text boxes that bleed off the sides of the page, but still the programme insists on leaving these fine white edges.
Can anyone suggest what to do to get rid of these? I have tried high quality prints / low quality prints.. I am just at my wits end. This has happened to me before, so I thought I need to understand what the problem is.
Thanks,
Mike

EXPORT the PDF and use Acrobat 5 compatibility or higher.
Google stitching and pdf for more.

• Photosmart 8750 - how to avoid white edges on print? And how to match colors from monitor to print?

Hi all! I´m new here so I hope I ask this in the right forum. Please advice me if this should be in another sub-forum..
First: The white edges around my photos when printed:
I can´t figure out how to avoid the white edges when I print my photos.
If I print in A3 size (or any other size) there´s always the white edges around my photos on the print, and it´s really annoying.
I make the size in Photoshop (CS4 extended) so that the photo matches the size of the printing paper, but still it gets adjusted when printing so I get the white edges.
I either print directly from PS or from Windows Photoviewer. (I have Windows 7).
In PS in the printing dialog box it says Scale to fit media, when I tick this and also have the Show Paper White ticked, it appears that the photo goes exactly as the size is set, but then I can see a thin white edge on top of it, illustrating that the photo will be printed with a white edge on top. If I untick the Scale to fit media, the photo appears to be cut a great deal before printed, so this will destroy my image.
I usually print from Windows Photoviewer as the colours in PS turns out more different than when saved and printed from Windows. (My next question).  In Windows Photoviewer I only have the option Fit to frame, but in the preview it doesn´t look like any of those two options will give a borderless print.
In the printers dialoge box for the Paper/Quality I only use the option for A3 HP glossy photopaper, but I see there are other options such as Photo without edges A3, but then the size says 423x303mm which is slightly bigger than the size of the photo.
Also there´s a box to tick under it, Print without edges and under it Automatic fit without edges.
Is it something here I should tick or untick?
What options should I use to get it to print and fill the whole paper?
Second: How to get the same colours on my print as it shows on my monitor?
I have tried figuring out this, but I gave up. Though I know there´s something about the Profile´s, just not how to set them..
As already said, the colours looks quite different when printed directly from PS than saved as .jpg and printed from Windows Photoviewer. In colours the print is closer to the actual colours when printed from Windows than from PS, but BW photos is quite far from as seen on the monitor when printed, from both of them.
Instead of this nice warm "brownish" hue seen on my monitor, it´s printed with a greenish hue. Really annoying as I spend a lot of time working on my photos to get them as I like.
In the printer´s dialog box (in Windows) I have disabled the ICM colour management.
In PS dialog box I´m sure there´s something to do different under the Color Management, but I don´t know what.
Also there´s probably something different in my monitor´s profile that differs from the printer and PS?
Anyone who can help with either one or both of my problems??
That would be highly appreciated so thanks so much in advance!

• White edges on bleed...

I am getting white edges on the bottom and right sides of documents that have full bleed.
Please tell me how I can correct this.
Screen Cap:

Without full information as to how the PDF file was created including settings use for same, the workflow leading up to this point (I assume your screen display in of the document in Acrobat?), and other information about the document (including the current settings within the PDF file of the bleed and trim boxes) as well as your Acrobat preferences, there isn't much help we can provide here.

• I get white edges when I print a file.

This happens on every printer with every DPI width and height.
Even if I save the file as PNG to print it with another program it will get white edges.

This is what I found when I was searching for borderless printing. I use an Epson SX130.
Print speed (PPM) when printed on A4 plain paper in the fastest mode. 10x15cm photo print speed when printed on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper in draft, borderless mode. Print speed may vary depending on system configuration, print mode, document complexity, software, type of paper used and connectivity. Print speed does not include processing time on host computer
USB cable not supplied in box
Otherwise 3mm top, left, right, bottom
According to ISO7779 pattern with Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper/Photo RPM mode
According to ISO9296
The printer settings don't care, if I'd use MS paint it print it alright.
Here are my other settings.

You see these white edges with black rows?

• Photo has white edges when saved in Acrobat

I have a document in publisher 07 with a photo of a product in it made from Photoshop CS3 saved as a PNG24. No matter how close I zoom in Publisher everything looks fine.
When I create a pdf in acrobat using standard or high quality setting there shows white jagged edges aroung the photo. I have tried saving in a multitude of ways but cannot get those stupid jaggy edges to go away.
Is it Photoshop, Acrobat, Publisher??? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I suspect it is a "feature" of publisher. That would be much like the white space added around the sides of a PPT when printing to the Adobe PDF printer (unless you click on print to fit) so that printer margins are observed (an assumption of PPT). In photos, a jagged edge might be desired for old-style photos and that is what you are seeing. I am guessing, but I would look for the feature in Publisher.

• Create white edges newly in pages [multiple]

• Crop white edges off a PDF

I have created artwork in Photoshop, saved it as a jpeg then converted into a PDF using CutePDFwriter - now I can't figure out how to remove the white border either side of the image. Adobe help says to go to Tools and crop, but when I click on Tools, all I see is 'Export, create, send, store'?

Yes, a needlessly complicated way of doing things, since Photoshop can both crop and save as PDF.

• Imported Buttons issue - unwanted white edges

Hello All,
I've just converted to Apple Video editing and i've come across an issue in DVD Studio Pro.
When I import a layered shape button in Photoshop, everything does what it should BUT I get this horrible white edge to my buttons.
Here is one example where I have created a 'Button Off'state which is the same colour as the background (i.e. the button should be invisable until selected). The white edge is clearly evident.

I have tried a mask layer but that just looks scruffy.
Please may I have some help sorting this.

Hi
Try using the Advanced Color pallete in the button inspector window, using three diferent levels of the background blue:
The attached image use yellow, just use your background blue in the three sliders but with different precents. That will manage the antialiasing borders of your button images.
Hope that helps !

• White Border created in PDF docs from InDesign CS5 -how to get rid of it

On some files I get a white border when exporting the PDF from InDesign. I have gone through I feel like every setting (including bleed) but cannot figure out what is causing it.
Here is a screen shot of what is going on.
White edges on right and bottom sides.

Here is a page from in InDEsign - I can give you the same page if you would like.
Here it is in Acrobat (same page)

• White outline on outside of clipping pathed images brought into InDesign

Hi. I am on a PC using CS6.
I created some clipping paths in Photoshop on a bunch of images and most of them have a white outline (even in Overprint Preview) shown in InDesign.
I thought I was being careful not to be too close to the edge in order to not get that white outline. I created the paths using the pen tool and path palette.
Please take a look at the screen shots below and I was wondering if anyone has this problem or if there is something I am totally missing.
As you can see in this photo the white outlines are around part of the box and most of the separate pieces of chocolate. This is a screen shot from InDesign.
This same image is below shown in Photoshop with a black rectangle placed behind it and I do not see the white outline. The outline shows in the PDF too when exported so I don't know what to do and I worried it will print this way. Never had this problem before..

Willi, I used your suggestion and I didn't know what I was doing, but it seemed to have worked. I followed that tutorial from that link I posted earlier. I guess I didn't have to worry about a background image. I wonder why that happened, I've never had this problem before.
I used a Photoshop image rather than a tif file. I tried using a Photoshop file earlier on in the game and had the white edges still, but did not use the Alpha channels.
Thanks all for your help and awesome time-saving tips!!!
